We’re going to chalk this one right up in the rumor category from the start but according to JR Raphael of ComputerWorld.com the T-Mobile G2 is set to receive an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread by “summer.” What summer means exactly is anyones guess but JR confirms via a “trusty Android Power reader” and an HTC Representative that things are on schedule for a summer release. The United States Senate has announced that hearings will be held by the Senate Judiciary committee into the AT&T / T-Mobile merger to determine if consumer competition would be reduced in light of the merger. April 20th is looking to be quite the day for T-Mobile fans as T-Mobile has announced both the availability of the G2X this morning along with…drum roll please…the Sidekick 4G. Dropping April 20th in stores and online the Sidekick 4G will cost $99.99 after a $50 mail in rebate. Turns out that Radio Shack tweet was on the money after all. In a rather unusual course of action, T-Mobile has apparently decided to discount the retail prices of the Motorola CHARM and the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G with 3.5mm Jack. The Motorola CHARM has been discounted from $269.99 to $199.99, and the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G with 3.5mm Jack has been discounted from $399.99 to $299.99. Right on schedule T-Mobile has launched the Nokia Astound for $79.99 for a 2 year contract. With a 3.5″ screen, 8 megapixel camera and on board Symbian OS the Astound is a definite change of pace from the recent onslaught of Android devices we’ve been seeing.
