Samsung Galaxy S5 to get T-Mobile VoLTE software update today

Since news went official that T-Mobile was launching its VoLTE service in Seattle a few weeks back, a number of extra cities and markets have been added to the list, but only three handsets have been equipped to make use of it. Until today, only the Galaxy Note 3, LG G Flex and Galaxy Light have received the required carrier update settings via software download. Later today, T-Mo is adding the Galaxy S5 to that list. An … [read full article]

OOKLA Speedtest App being removed from throttling?

Not everyone on T-Mobile is subscribed to one of its unlimited high-speed data plans. Some are on the lower plans which restrict data speeds once you hit your allocated allowance. Today, we’ve learned that T-Mobile is removing OOKLA’s Speedtest app from network throttling. What that means is that those who have hit their cap, and are being throttled, they’ll be able to use the Speedtest app and still see the true network speeds in their location. Not … [read full article]

T-Mo’s latest moves are certainly attractive, but are they Un-carrier?

Un-carrier, a term T-Mobile has coined since just over a year ago. To me, it means doing things no other carrier would. Or at least, getting there first. It’s about making moves that will change the industry for the better. It’s about the big picture, not about just making it easier to join your business and become paying customers. It’s why its earliest move was to do away with the old subsidized phone model where the handset … [read full article]

T-Mobile offering to buy spectrum from smaller rivals

According to a report at NYPost, T-Mobile is putting together a back-up plan in case the merger with Sprint doesn’t go through. T-Mo has purportedly been offering to buy low-band spectrum from a number of smaller carriers to help boost its network performance in major built-up areas like New York City. Earlier this year, the company sealed a major deal to buy low-band 700MHz spectrum from Verizon. Spectrum which – as of yet – hasn’t been implemented … [read full article]

Legere reacts to Amazon phone AT&T exclusive rumor

Over the past couple of days, rumors have cropped up online claiming that the Amazon phone could end up as an AT&T exclusive. The device – which many are expecting to be launched tomorrow – drew comparison to the failed “Facebook Phone”, aka HTC First, which famously lasted only one month. It’s rare for John Legere to pass up an opportunity to goad his competitors, and he didn’t disappoint this time out: Let’s hope @amazon doesn’t … [read full article]

And slowly, but surely, RootMetrics’ own reports are starting to show the results of this work … [read full article]

In an interview with reporters in Tokyo early this morning, Masayoshi Son, SoftBank’s CEO has been discussing the state of the U.S. market and the possibility of consolidation between Sprint and another carrier. He claims that over the past few months there has been new movement from regulators in regard to their feelings on any merger. Son believes there is less resistance now than there was at the beginning of the year, and that more discussions “on … [read full article]
