T-Mobile still has some way to go with network coverage perception

It’s no secret that most U.S. consumers see T-Mobile as being a carrier which offers less reliable, and less expansive coverage than AT&T and Verizon. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve seen comments on this blog about coverage just disappearing outside metro areas. And a survey by research firm, NPD, shows that perception of T-Mo’s network is still not strong. In a survey of 2,500 wireless subscribers, T-Mobile came out with a perception score … [read full article]

UpgradeSwap stops buying used T-Mobile phones [Update x2: Correction]

UPDATE: T-Mobile got in touch to correct some of the information being shared by UpgradeSwap. Customers buying used devices can – in fact – check their devices to see if they’re financed, or if they’re clear. You can check that link here: http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx “If a customer wants to purchase a T-Mobile phone and is checking the IMEI number, they should be using our tool for the correct information.”  UPDATE #2: UpgradeSwap also got in touch with us … [read full article]

T-Mobile Lumia 635 available for pre-order from Microsoft [Update: Removed]

Update: Well that’s no fun. Microsoft just got in touch to inform us that the pre-order page contained inaccurate information, and has been removed.  “Recently a Nokia Lumia 635 pre-order offer for AT&T and T-Mobile customers was published on the Microsoft Store, and was subsequently removed as it included inaccurate information. We expect pricing and availability for the Lumia 635 to be announced by our U.S. carrier partners at a later time. “ Earlier this year, Microsoft [read full article]

Reuters: Sprint getting close to securing $40B financing for T-Mobile deal

A report published by Reuters late last night claims that Sprint is close to securing the necessary finances for its deal to buy T-Mobile. Citing sources familiar with the matter, Sprint has lined up eight banks to fund the acquisition of TMUS. The debt package exceeds $40 billion and includes a bridge loan of roughly $20 billion from Japan‘s Softbank Corp to Sprint, as well as some $20 billion refinancing of T-Mobile’s existing debt, the people said this … [read full article]

It’s been just one and a half days since John Legere took to the stage in Seattle to announce the latest stages of Uncarrier. And both are seemingly off to a flying start. In a blog post this morning, the controversial CEO took time out to update us on the early success of T-Mobile Test Drive and Music Freedom. Legere notes that he wants customers from other carriers to come and try the network out … [read full article]

Legere apologizes for rape comment during yesterday’s Uncarrier announcement

During last night’s Uncarrier announcement, John Legere’s language was as colorful as it always is. Dropping f-bombs, bulls**ts and all manner of other expletives – save the really graphic ones – in an effort to show how evil and old-fashioned his competitors are. But, he went a little too far when he referred to the way other carriers treat their customers. Referring to AT&T and Verizon, he commented “These high and mighty duopolists that are raping you for … [read full article]

Since news went official that T-Mobile was launching its VoLTE service in Seattle a few weeks back, a number of extra cities and markets have been added to the list, but only three handsets have been equipped to make use of it. Until today, only the Galaxy Note 3, LG G Flex and Galaxy Light have received the required carrier update settings via software download. Later today, T-Mo is adding the Galaxy S5 to that list. An … [read full article]

OOKLA Speedtest App being removed from throttling?

Not everyone on T-Mobile is subscribed to one of its unlimited high-speed data plans. Some are on the lower plans which restrict data speeds once you hit your allocated allowance. Today, we’ve learned that T-Mobile is removing OOKLA’s Speedtest app from network throttling. What that means is that those who have hit their cap, and are being throttled, they’ll be able to use the Speedtest app and still see the true network speeds in their location. Not … [read full article]

T-Mo’s latest moves are certainly attractive, but are they Un-carrier?

Un-carrier, a term T-Mobile has coined since just over a year ago. To me, it means doing things no other carrier would. Or at least, getting there first. It’s about making moves that will change the industry for the better. It’s about the big picture, not about just making it easier to join your business and become paying customers. It’s why its earliest move was to do away with the old subsidized phone model where the handset … [read full article]
