T-Mobile Q4 2013 earnings – 1.6 million net additions, low churn and expanding LTE

As we were already aware – after John Legere’s press conference at CES – last quarter was incredible for T-Mobile. More than 1.6 million customers joined Magenta’s ranks. 981k of those were branded customer additions, with 869k of those being postpaid. If you’ve been following Tmo’s earnings and reports for a while, you’ll know that those figures alone represent the best quarter T-Mobile’s had for a very long time. In fact, it’s Tmo’s … [read full article]

BlackBerry CEO: T-Mobile iPhone promotion “inappropriate and ill-conceived” [Update: T-Mobile statement]

Over the weekend, T-Mobile took some heat over its attempts to tempt BlackBerry users away from their beloved devices and switch to iPhone. This – of course – did not go down well with the BBerry faithful. Although John Legere was quick to apologize and state he was looking in to it, it didn’t stop BlackBerry’s new CEO, John Chen from stepping in … [read full article]

Tmo BlackBerry fans not happy with iPhone switch promotion

In the tech world, there are fans of every platform and manufacturer. Some groups may be louder and larger than others, but you won’t find many fans as loyal as that of BlackBerry phones. They’ve stuck with the company from the chart-topping days of the original BlackBerry Bold, and now – even though the company is nowhere near its glory days of old – they still cling on to their devices. Fact is, … [read full article]

[Update: Some of you aren't seeing the video. Try this link if you don't see it at the bottom of this post.] John Legere was interviewed by Bloomberg last night right outside the venue for the Macklemore concert. The entire video is about 7 mins long, give it a watch. It’s nice to see an interview outside of an official press event, or studio for once. [It's Flash, sorry iOS ... [read full article]

Legere okay with Sprint/T-Mobile merger as long as he’s in charge?

John Legere has become one of the most prominent figures in the wireless industry since taking over at T-Mobile around 16 months ago. Thanks to his style, demeanor and business approach, he – and T-Mobile with him – has become unavoidable. Whether or not its just a public persona for the sole purpose of personifying T-Mobile’s new-found Maverick brand will be argued for a while yet. In an interview with NPR a couple … [read full article]

T-Mobile hosting Macklemore concert, January 23rd at The Belasco Theater, LA

If you’re the CEO of a big company and you get booted out of a concert you really wanted to see, what do you do? Of course, the only answer is to organize your own concert with the same band. That’s exactly what John Legere and T-Mobile have done. On January 23rd at The Belasco Theater, Los Angeles, Tmo is hosting a one-off, intimate concert with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. … [read full article]

Check out John Legere’s full interview with David Pogue of Yahoo! Tech

Yesterday, Yahoo! Tech streamed a live interview with T-Mobile’s CEO, John Legere. In the interview the talked about a lot of things. As you can imagine, topics centered mostly around the new Uncarrier 4.0 phase, including the LTE rollout and explanations behind that and spectrum plans. Sadly, I can’t embed the video here, so you won’t be able to watch it on this blog, but, if you follow this link, … [read full article]

T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 4.0 plans – ETFs covered, $0 down on great phones and break-up letters written

As we heard a while back, this is T-Mobile’s next phase of Uncarrier. It’s not just a promotion that last just a few weeks. It’s here to stay. According to some surveys, 78% of customers would switch if someone paid their ETF. Legere made a joke about AT&T customers who could leave, take advantage of Uncarrier 4.0, then if you don’t like it, go back  and take advantage of AT&T’s $450 to switch offer. You’ve lost nothing. … [read full article]

Legere proves yet again he is the “Un-CEO”, gets thrown out of AT&T’s party at CES

Last night, long after I’d gone to bed, John Legere decided he’d crash the AT&T party at CES 2014. The party was being thrown by AT&T for its developers at the Palms Hotel. According to a quick chat with Re/code, he “just wanted to hear Macklemore”, and wasn’t looking to make a scene. Although he did arrive with an “entourage” of other Tmo execs. It didn’t take long for him to get noticed … [read full article]

John Legere wishes his competition a merry Christmas… sort of

When it comes to company CEOs, it’s safe to say there aren’t many out there like John Legere. T-Mobile is the UN-carrier, Legere is the UN-CEO. Giving up stiff suits, shirt and tie in favor of a magenta T-shirt and Converse sneakers. He’s also not to shy to give a dig towards his competition, often calling out their sales tactics as being non customer-focussed. In that spirit, check out the Vine he just posted. It made me … [read full article]
