I think we can all live without recapping the large number of cupcake rumors/delays and more rumors. With that in mind and judging by emails coming into my inbox and this report from Engadgetmobile we’re starting to see users FINALLY getting their cupcake fill. T-mobile is still allowing for early June for all G1 users to receive their upgrade so if you don’t get it within the next 7 minutes, don’t huff and puff and blow the house down! Patience young padawans, patience! Sound off in the comments if you are already graced with your cupcake!
Thanks to our friends at Phonedog, we are getting a look at what is purported to be an HTC skinning of the Android interface complete with widgets, gadgets, lion, tigers and bears. Best guess, according to John from Phonedog is that its similar to the HTC Touchflo interface for Windows Mobile devices, this time just for Android. This doesn’t have the appearance of the “Donut” follow up to Cupcake, more likely just HTC going to work on their own Android makeover.
After all that talk, all the anticipation, patient waiting and who knows what else we were that close to Cupcake. So close we could taste it, feel it and for some lucky few, using it. Unfortunately, as the image states, T-mobile is still working out the last few kinks and has pushed the rollout date back by at “approximately” a week. We’re hoping that they sincerely mean just one week and not two but time will tell. Try not to throw fits of anger right now, we’ve waited this long, one more week won’t be the end of the world!
I know cupcake has taken up quite a bit of the news spots lately and for good reason, a million G1 users is a user base that can’t be ignored. So here we go, one more addition to the cupcake news cycle and then hopefully, and if you are still unfamiliar with the cupcake update then this sheet courtesy of our tipster might answer some questions. Of course, if you are a G1 user and unfamiliar with cupcake, you probably aren’t reading here anyway. Either way, the above shot continues to confirm the completion of the cupcake OTA rollout by the end of May, so those of you impatiently waiting may still have a little bit of time to go, but at least you know with continued confirmation by what day you should have received it. Of course if you really want to see whats upcoming for Android, check out the video below as a young hacker apparently got ahold of the HTC Hero software, possibly the “Donut” followup to cupcake and showcases a whole lot of Android goodness.
Thanks to a trust source over on the forum, those of you who are still waiting for the Cupcake update, can get a slightly better idea of at least the latest timeframe you might be receiving the update. While there are still 11 days before Google promises 100% of all G1 users will receive the update, take comfort in the fact that you at least have a solid idea of when your update might arrive, rather than just waiting for that message to appear. Of course, that might not be any comfort at all. We should preface by saying while this list is purported to come from T-mobile internal systems, its unconfirmed!

UPDATE: T-Mobile is delighted to announce the upcoming release of Android 1.5 with “Cupcake” coming soon to the T-Mobile G1! We plan to begin sending out the update starting the end of next week. As with previous software maintenance releases, the update will be randomly sent “over the air” to T-Mobile G1 customers. We expect everyone will have their update by the end of May. (Official T-mobile Statement)
We’re running this as unconfirmed confirmed right now, hoping for a screenshot to surface in the next few hours but word has it straight from the horses mouth, Cupcake will drop the week of May 11th as an OTA update from T-mobile directly. Then end of April saw a number of users begin to receive OTA downloads and yet most people still ended up cupcake-less. While we still can’t positively, absolutely 100% confirm this we’re running this as it jives with prior information and rumors regarding Cupcake launching in May.
Reports are coming in from everywhere that the heavily anticipated “cupcake” 1.5 software update for the G1 is already being pushed out to users. Having been teased and teased and teased a little more about the actual release date for this update, we had almost given up hope. That is until we saw that our brethren from the other side of the pond had posted a teaser for a May release for the update. While May is still less than 24 hours away, we’ll start taking our updates now! Users from the forums are already starting to comment on the update and the only thing you can do is sit and wait for an OTA push, however praying to T-mobile probably wouldn’t hurt your chances of getting it sooner. Just kidding! No word on how long this update rollout will take or if this is truly an official rollout, stay tuned as we hopefully will get more details as the day, week rolls on!
Now lately I have made it a point to stay away from the usual Cupcake rumors that come from someone’s sisters brothers dog walker ex girlfriend who knows a guy who works for google. However, this time it comes from a credible source, our T-mobile brethren in Germany which lists via the website a list of updates coming in a May release. Now of course, none of this can be found on the US website, but if our friends in Germany are getting it in May, hopefully US users won’t be that far behind!

Sadly it looks as if the waiting game for the G1 Cupcake Update will continue. Last weeks report spawned rumors of an April release date and while unverified publicly, there was some thought that with CTIA just around the corner, we might actually see something released. Unfortunately, according to the folks over at Betanews the April release date is unconfirmed which makes this latest rumor just another in a long list of cupcake promises that have yet to come to fruition.
According to T-mobile USA spokesperson Erica Gordon, the recent “talk” which originated from Pocket-lint is not true. Betanews points out that while Gordon didn’t flat out deny April as a timeframe, there is nothing concrete that points to any particular time next month.
Bottom line, the waiting game for Cupcake continues…annoyingly so.
Ok, so I caught this rumor earlier in the day and I just hate posting more speculation regarding Cupcake updates, release dates and just anything generally regarding T-mobile and cupcake that isn’t 100% completely solid information. However, it seems as though the blogosphere is taking serious this article from Pocket-Lint who source an unnamed T-mobile spokesperson claiming cupcake will hit T-mobile in April. I just hate more speculation regarding this update, but I guess we’ll know if this is fact or fiction sometime next month. For now we’re skeptical until further notice but for what its worth, we’ll gladly take cupcake and its on screen keyboard anytime!
