Seattle’s “New Year’s at the Needle” to be colored all magenta

This year’s 29th annual “New Year’s at the Needle” is going to take on a very familiar hue as T-Mobile officially sponsors the New Year’s Eve event by lighting up the Space Needle in Seattle. What color? Why, magenta, naturally. From December 30th through New Year’s Eve, the Needle will take on T-Mobile’s color. “We are really thrilled to help throw a massive community party in our own backyard with such an important, iconic, global landmark like … [read full article]

Softbank purportedly in final stages of talks to acquire T-Mobile

One rumor that just won’t go away recently is the speculation surrounding Softbank/Sprint’s intention to buy Deutsche Telekom’s controlling share in T-Mobile U.S. And just because it’s Christmas Eve doesn’t mean that those rumors are going quiet. Recent information passed on to Nikkei (as reported by Reuters) suggests that Softbank is in the latter stages of discussions with Deutsche Telekom about buying the now-popular Uncarrier, T-Mobile. There are problems however. As we already read earlier this month, … [read full article]

T-Mobile prepaid carrier, GoSmart to offer free Facebook access

According to a report over at Reuters, GoSmart, one of T-Mobile’s prepaid MVNOs is set to offer its subscribers free access to Facebook regardless of whether or not they’re subscribed to an internet plan. Obviously the idea here is to attract more customers, and by offering access to the world’s most-used social network, it’ll surely be an attractive offer for the young, connected consumers. Customers on the $25 per month talk only plan or $30 talk and … [read full article]

Sprint Chairman and Softbank CEO, Son, said to be approaching banks to finance T-Mobile buyout

It’s fairly old news by now that Sprint is rumored to be looking at buying T-Mobile. As we’ve already heard, it’s Softbank’s CEO that wants to push the deal through, but it’s one that many industry watchers and myself are struggling to make any sense of. The obvious questions like who’s name is going to be kept, or will it be a merger where both individual identities are kept … [read full article]

John Legere wishes his competition a merry Christmas… sort of

When it comes to company CEOs, it’s safe to say there aren’t many out there like John Legere. T-Mobile is the UN-carrier, Legere is the UN-CEO. Giving up stiff suits, shirt and tie in favor of a magenta T-shirt and Converse sneakers. He’s also not to shy to give a dig towards his competition, often calling out their sales tactics as being non customer-focussed. In that spirit, check out the Vine he just posted. It made me … [read full article]

T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 4.0 announcement to take place on Jan. 8 at CES

T-mobile is set to unveil it’s plans for the beginning of 2014, and promises to start the year with a bang. Invites have been sent out to members of the press confirming that the Uncarrier 4.0 announcement will take place on January 8th, at CES in Las Vegas. We’ve heard that it could be a plan to help customers break their ties with existing carriers. I wrote a piece on it earlier today, speculating – based on … [read full article]

What if Uncarrier 4.0 is other carriers’ early termination fees covered? [UPDATE: It probably is]

Ever since John Legere teased Uncarrier 4.0 on his twitter account earlier this week, I’ve been racking my brains trying to decide what it’s most likely to be. In terms of its own plans, value and available products, T-Mobile has done about as much as it can do to convince customers to join. It has unlimited (and unthrottled) data, international roaming, a non-contract plan, and the ability to upgrade … [read full article]

T-Mobile appoints Gary King as new CIO

It’s been a busy year for T-Mobile, and I could almost certainly forgive the company for taking a few weeks off announcements and changes for the holiday period. Shame, magenta doesn’t see it that way. Today, the company has announce the appointment of a new Chief Information Officer. Gary King has been in the technology services business for more than 30 years, most recently plying his trade at Chico’s FAS, Inc. But in the past has worked … [read full article]

Dish yet again rumored to be preparing bid for T-Mobile

A few days ago we read a report claiming that Sprint – now owned by Japanese carrier Softbank – was looking to buy out T-Mobile in 2014. Although we’re highly skeptical that the company is in a position in which a buyout is necessary, the rumors won’t stop flowing. Today, in an exclusive article, Reuters reports that its sources have further information on a bid from Dish. If … [read full article]

John Legere teases Uncarrier 4.0 on Twitter

Late last night – or at least, very early hours of the morning for me – CEO John Legere hinted at the arrival of the next phase of the Uncarrier movement. In his tweet, as you can see above, he announces that Tmo is set to release customers from another “pain point”. Exactly what that is, I don’t know, and I can only guess. So far, “pain points” already struck off the list include having … [read full article]

T-Mobile Q4 2013 earnings call to take place at 9am (ET), February 25

Over the past few quarters, T-Mobile’s been leading the way in terms of growth. Thanks to its UNcarrier strategy – in all its phases – it’s become a popular choice among US consumers. The question on everyone’s lips is “can it continue?” While Q4 is just drawing to a close, Tmo’s used it to launch some of its most attractive offers so far. Including the 200MB for life tablet promotion and $0 down on many top handsets … [read full article]
