Yesterday I mentioned that we’d probably see a few more official Extended Range LTE expansions before 2015 is up, and this morning that’s exactly what we’re getting. T-Mobile has officially launched its Extended Range LTE (aka band 12 LTE) coverage in the Detroit, Mich., metro area. The service is also available in other parts of the state of Michigan. The full list of new … [read full article]
Earlier today, T-Mobile officially confirmed that its Extended Range LTE (aka band 12) coverage is now live in Philadelphia and a bunch of other Pennsylvania cities. And while T-Mo has announced quite a few official Extended Range LTE launches in recent months, we know that Magenta is testing and prepping that coverage in other cities across the US without making any official announcements. Here are some of the recent places that … [read full article]
Yesterday Sprint added a countdown timer to its website, and CEO Marcelo Claure teased that the other US carriers wouldn’t like. Today the timer reached zero and Sprint unveiled an offer that’ll cut the rate plan of switchers in half when they move to Sprint, which is similar to an offer that Sprint launched last year. Unsurprisingly, John Legere took the opportunity to … [read full article]

Hot on the heels of news that T-Mobile sold 600 towers, likely to help finance next year’s 600MHz auction, it’s been revealed that T-Mo has also made a filing with the FCC to help its position in that auction. A new filing to the FCC reveals that T-Mobile is asking that Verizon be removed from the 600MHz spectrum reserve in 12 markets across the … [read full article]
As we get closer to the 600MHz auction, which is slated for March 2016, T-Mobile continues to prepare itself for a spectrum buying spree. Phoenix Tower International (“PTI”) has agreed to buy more than 600 towers from T-Mobile. PTI says that it’s acquiring “ownership or management rights” to the towers. Unfortunately, details of the deal are confidential, so not much more is known about it. … [read full article]
Earlier this month, T-Mobile confirmed that the BlackBerry Priv is fully compatible with T-Mo’s network, including band 12 LTE and Wi-Fi calling. The bad news for T-Mobile customers is that the Priv isn’t actually being sold by Magenta, so you have to get a full-price unit from BlackBerry. That may change soon, though. T-Mobile tells CNET it’s “definitely talking with BlackBerry” about … [read full article]
UPDATE: Here’s the statement that T-Mobile gave me regarding the Nexus 6P and its band 12 LTE support: “We’re continuing to work with Google to test Band 12 and VoLTE on the new Nexus P6, and should have more to share in the near future.” When the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P were first announced, their spec lists included support for band 12 LTE. There were immediately questions about whether … [read full article]

T-Mo hasn’t yet updated its support pages with info on the updates, but owners of the two phones pinged me this morning to say that they were getting … [read full article]
Hot on the heels of T-Mobile’s Binge On announcement, T-Mo is showing some love to its MetroPCS customers. MetroPCS is adding Music Unlimited and Data Maximizer features starting November 19. Think of these like the Metro equivalents of Music Freedom and Binge On, with the former letting you stream music without tapping into your monthly data allotment, and the latter optimizing video to play … [read full article]
Well, this is kind of strange. T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 owner Danon has reached out to say that he appears to have gotten an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update on his device. Danon explains that he was having some issues with his IMEI info earlier today, so he used the Samsung Odin tool to restore his Note 5 back to the stock firmware. After restoring his phone, he went into System Update and rather … [read full article]
When Motorola launched the Moto X Pure Edition in early September, it listed band 12 among the device’s supported LTE bands. Given the whole brouhaha surrounding the Moto E and the removal of its band 12 support, though, it was unclear if the Moto X Pure Edition would ever actually support band 12 on T-Mobile. Fast-forward to today and there’s finally some good news … [read full article]
