Legacy MetroPCS CDMA network to be completely shut down by June 21st?

Since combining with MetroPCS, T-Mobile has been steadily shutting down the prepaid carrier’s old CDMA network in a number of markets. The aim was always to get its customers on to T-Mobile’s more modern, faster LTE network and re-farm the old spectrum and integrate it in to T-Mobile’s network. With progress so far being quick and efficient, it looks like the legacy network could be shut down sooner than we expected. T-Mobile plans to have the … [read full article]

BlackBerry is back! T-Mobile to start selling the Classic from May 13

Not long ago, John Legere sent out a teaser featuring what looked like a picture of a black berry. And, true to the teaser, T-Mobile just announced that it will – once again – start selling BlackBerry devices. The BlackBerry Classic will go on sale online at T-Mobile.com and in participating stores from May 13. Time for a little fun! I’ve got some news, but maybe you can figure it out from this – guess … [read full article]

T-Mobile gives Cincinnati’s LTE network a speed bump

A couple of readers got in touch with us over the past couple of days to inform us of some very interesting and promising network news from Cincinnati. It looks almost certain that T-Mobile has upgraded the network to a 10+10 network meaning residents on T-Mobile now have twice as many “data lanes” to use. Speed tests done by these readers show that the new network has significantly improved download speeds. Although they’re not quite Wideband LTE … [read full article]

Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 – An awesome budget and T-Mobile friendly smartphone [review]

It was back in March at MWC where I got my first hands-on experience with the new Alcatel OneTouch smartphone. And – for the first time – I was impressed by an Alcatel phone. In the past, the company has perhaps built the wrong kind of reputation for making cheap phones with far too many compromises. But the Idol 3 is the manufacturer’s attempt at making its own flagship at an affordable price. And I have to … [read full article]

T-Mobile’s data de-prioritization (aka “throttling” high users) – Explained

Just a couple of days before T-Mobile’s first quarterly earnings call of 2015 a thread on Reddit got our attention. Within it, a customer complained of being “throttled” when – in fact – he was feeling the result of data de-prioritization. It seemed like – from what he understood – that he’d hit some magic, hidden number of GBs in downloads on LTE and had … [read full article]

T-Mobile offering over $100 off iPads in time for Mother’s Day

This morning, T-Mobile announced that it will be kicking off a huge iPad offer for a limited time. In all, you’ll end up paying less for your LTE-equipped Apple tablet than you’d normally pay for a Wi-Fi only model direct from T-Mobile. Although the offer is fantastic value, the way T-Mobile has gone about it is a little less than straight forward. In order to be eligible for the offer, customers have to buy the iPad (any … [read full article]

Sprint announces Q1 2015 earnings – It’s still ahead of T-Mobile, but only just

During the earnings call for the final quarter of 2014, John Legere announced that – unofficially – T-Mobile was already ahead of Sprint in total subscriptions. But the official numbers didn’t agree. After T-Mo’s blockbuster quarter, many had assumed that those official numbers would catch up. With the Verizon and AT&T posting disappointing subscriber add numbers, the industry was all but certain that Sprint wouldn’t do … [read full article]

T-Mobile targets Verizon customers with “Never Settle Trial” – Offers 14 days of free use

Verizon’s made a big push and spent a ton of cash on its Never Settle marketing campaign. T-Mobile, in the early hours of this morning, has responded with its very own campaign inviting Verizon customers to switch. As it turns out, T-Mo agrees that you shouldn’t settle… for Verizon. The Never Settle Trial offers the chance for Verizon customers to try the T-Mobile network out for themselves and – if they don’t like it – they can … [read full article]
