Many T-Mobile customers having MMS issues

tmobiletowermagenta

If you’re having issues texting photos and video on T-Mobile today, you’re not alone.

Many T-Mobile customers are reporting that their MMS messages are not going through today. There are lots of reports of MMS problems on Down Detector, Reddit, and Twitter.

T-Mo hasn’t issued an official statement on the situation, but several support reps have responded to customer complaints about the problem on Twitter and one said, “Our team is on the case and will get this resolve ASAP.” I’ve reached out to T-Mobile for more info and will update this post when I hear back.

Having issues sending MMS messages would be frustrating at any time, but it’s the problem is made even worse by the fact that today is Christmas and lots of T-Mobile customers are trying to share photos and videos with loved ones.

Are you having problems with MMS today?

Thanks, Lennard!

Mine has been intermittent today in Oklahoma City very frustrating.

  • Qbancelli

So glad I’m not the only one…..

  • blkbam

glad there’s some confirmation of this. i’ve been having issues all day in the Philadelphia area

  • Jenny Hamilton

Yes, I wasn’t able to receive mms messages, but was able to receive individual text messages. It almost screwed up a get together with my sisters. They didn’t know I didn’t receive their message to ask what time it was to meet. Glad to know it wasn’t my phone messing up.

  • Jenny Hamilton

And, I’m in the ATL area.

  • RockStar2005

I think I’m having it too in Chicago area. Only my SMS & RCS peeps are getting my messages it seems.

    • dcmanryan

Another reason TMobile needs to let ALL phone have RCS enabled. It’s pretty sad when they won’t let a PIXEL 3 XL enable RCS!

      • Mookie

RCS has been fully released. It just needs to have Google messages and be activated on both ends. T-Mobile is out of the loop

        • dcmanryan

I’m aware it’s fully released. I know because I have the 3 XL I bought from Google. I’m using two Sims T-Mobile SIM card and a virtual Fi Network. I can enable it on Fi, switch to have T-Mobile be the main sim and with in a day it’s disabled again. If that doesn’t prove it’s a T-Mobile issues then I don’t know what does. Google Messages is the default app on Pixel phones out the gate so that’s not the issue. You can’t delete the app even if you want to.

        • Mookie

It is not TMobile. I have a Moto g5+ unlocked and it works. Do you have the beta? That might do it. Many times carrier services, a Google app, needs downloaded.

        • dcmanryan

No. It’s not a beta phone. I tried to link to a T-Mobile thread regarding the issue but as usual Tmonews won’t allow links. Just search about it and you’ll see it’s an issue and the issue is T-Mobile not allowing it on some Pixel devices.

        • Mookie

Of all the phones to not have it.

      • RockStar2005

        Wait, what?!!

I know ppl who have Pixel phones that are using RCS, even on T-Mobile’s network. Where did you hear/read that?? My one friend has the 3a XL and RCS works fine for him on Mint, which is a T-Mo subsidiary.

        • dcmanryan

I have a 3 XL. It’s a T-Mobile known issue. On another Tmonews thread a Pixel 2 owner was having the same issues.

  • Rob Keller

Yup, same for me in San Diego from 9a to just a few minutes ago. It was quite frustrating not being able to share Christmas day photos with family and friends

  • Buff Barnaby

Send them with a PC through email…who cares PC wins !

  • Buff Barnaby

No issues on Obamaphone running on Sprint.

  • travelqueen2

Had an issue sending this morning and afternoon on Textra. I tried on regular Messages and pics went through. But there must have been problems aside from that as I just a few moments ago received a lot of pics from people who sent them this morning….

    • RockStar2005

At this point, you should really consider leaving Textra and switching to Google/Android Messages so you can enable RCS, which is the newest texting standard that will replace SMS and MMS. You can look up how to do that or just contact T-Mo to help you.

      • travelqueen2

I like being able to customize each caller notification and color. I don’t think I can do that on Google/Android Messages, as I had that before and they took that option away…. Is there another benefit?

        • RockStar2005

I see. Yeah I used Textra for years so I know what you’re talking about with regards to it being much more customizable.

Well besides having RCS, I really love the Text to Desktop/PC option where you can send and respond to texts from your desktop or laptop computer. Sometimes I have more to say or don’t feel like texting from my phone, so that’s a very convenient option to have. Very easy to setup too.

Just Google “google messages desktop” and the result that comes up FIRST is the link you wanna click on. MAKE SURE to click on “Remember this computer” BEFORE you use the scanner mentioned below.

From there, just go to the Google Messages app on your phone, Settings, choose “Messages for web”, tap on “QR code scanner”, then scan the bar code on that link.

From there you can go into the Desktop settings and customize them as you like, like by enabling “Dark Mode”, etc. And of course, I recommend bookmarking it into your Favorites for easy access in the future.

Lemme know if you need any help or have any more questions.

        • travelqueen2

I have used that, and I do miss it. I’m a tech swagger so I need my swag I guess, lol.

        • RockStar2005

Well then there ya go! Either custom caller and color notifications, or desktop bliss. For me, it’s the latter w/o hesitation. lol I absolutely LOVE IT! You can attach pics and downloaded gifs to messages as well with ease, or just choose your own within the app itself.

And with RCS you have that 105 MB limit, not garbage 1-2 MB MMS limit. But that’s besides the point.

      • thesecondsight

RCS currently does not have end-to-end encryption. It’s a security nightmare. When Google or the carriers plug the many security holes it has then I’ll re-enable it.

        • RockStar2005

Interesting. Though I’m never really sending anything that I’d really be concerned about anyway. But good to know. Hopefully yeah, they resolve those issues soon.

  • My mother, who uses Consumer Cellular, was unable to receive MMS at all today, until just about an hour ago.

  • Say What??

I had mms issues all day today in the Long Island area. One mms message would take hours to send. At least I know it wasn’t just me.

  • Ether

Some of my MMS photo messages were slow today, but they all went through in less than a minute. One was still showing the spinning circle yet it had already been received. Could it be that much of the world was sending and receiving Christmas texts? That’s what I figured. Either way, not much of a story here.

    • reggjoo

Gonna see if it’s down now. Using tracfone’s, thru tmobile. Maybe it’s resolved by now.

  • mikeZo6

Tmo network can’t handle demand happens all the time, wait until New Year Eve on Tmobile won’t even be able to make a simple call at midnight 2020

    • dcmanryan

Quit spreading false info. It doesn’t happen all the time and has never personally ever happened to me until yesterday.

      • Ian Urion

Indeed, I’d never experienced any issues with their network, including on a major holiday, till yesterday. Clearly it was a one-off glitch of some sort and was resolved later in the evening regardless.

      • Ruben Hurtado

It does happen all the time. I’ve been a T-Mobile Customer for 14 months and it happens every month at least once. Verizon may be the Devil but their service is so much better. Not False Info. T-Mobile is terrible.

        • Mike

I had both Verizon and ATT and they have temporary issues that affects service as well. So stop trying to spread fake news that Verizon is perfect and doesn’t have issues time to time.

        • Ruben Hurtado

Mike wipe the tears away from your face and take a deep breath. Where did I say Verizon was perfect? Every cell phone company has issues, T-Mobile is absolutely the worst for connectivity issues.

        • Notpoliticalyet

They all do but TMobile has more of a history of issues and spotty coverage.

        • Ruben Hurtado

          Agree 100%

        • Notpoliticalyet

Some Google Fi customers also had issues yesterday with messaging. I’m thinking this is due to using TMobile towers in places.

        • dcmanryan

          More than likely.

        • Mike

These are tears of joy from being in your mom pu$$. Plus you did brang on Verizon being all so mighty as if they don’t have service issues fo

        • Ruben Hurtado

I don’t don’t you about my Mother, I’ve heard it before. More importantly you sure read into my post far more than what I wrote. Mike I encourage you to try reading my post again and find a mirror and keep telling yourself that your opinion matters. Bye Felicia

        • Aaron a

TMobile is a carrier not some liberal movement my friend. When people have an opinion over a phone carrier it may be true. Since it’s from actual experience not some ideology of believing TMobile will cure all the problems of the world. TMobile even has a problem with WiFi calling. I often randomly get kicked off since I depend on this crappy services wifi calling. I’m in a bigger city so ya. My house is a dead spot so I depend on wifi calling. About to switch to Sprint to get wifi calling but then I’ll be right back with TMobile reverse buyout , they will cut down the towers to half and still be over congested. TMobile is always about cutting costs and making you pay $5 less than Verizon. TMobile isn’t a deal anymore and hasn’t been for years

        • RockStar2005

Thank you. I know ppl who have Verizon NOW who say in certain areas they get bad or no reception where T-Mobile’s is great.

        • RockStar2005

          Lies all lies

      • mikeZo6

Does happen all the time FACT just happened Black Friday, their network can’t handle Demand. again on Christmas next on New Years Eve
        Got credit from Tmo lol

        • dcmanryan

So all of the USA is using your tower? Think before you type. Just because you may live in a highly congested area does not make it the norm for the other 99.9% of us.

        • mikeZo6

Do you even know how to read…Try by reading Down Detector where article came from. shows happening ALL OVER
Make up ur mind 3 comments above you disagree and comment below you AGREE LOL not even worth commenting too you

        • dcmanryan

I read fine. You stated it’s a normal thing and it’s not. Yesterday it did happen to everyone and that was NOT normal like you stated by saying it does happen all the time. It DOES NOT happen all the time. Does that make sense to you? If not I give up.

    • Aaron a

TMobile is always over burdened. And when the merger happens then they will cut off Sprint towers causing even more over congestion. They will charge more for this and they will cut the savings to put the money in the pockets of this terrible corrupt carrier. People tend to think TMobile is a movement when it’s a scammy carrier all along

      • RockStar2005

What the F are you talking about dude? The merger with Sprint would bring in MORE towers, not less! So they’d be merging to gain NOTHING?!! That’s the most nonsensical thing I’ve ever heard in my life.

        • Aaron a

its called shutting down towers. many companies do this to cost save why would they have over lapping towers toolbag. when sprint and tmo merge they will shut off gsm and cdma to bring them to an lte only carrier. some people actually understand mergers and how stuff works. i suggest instead of just being a fan boy to actually think about how mergers happen. when att bought cricket did they keep the sprint towers they was using? no they merged them to att towers. did they add more towers to make room for cricket customers no. what about metro and tmobile did tmobile add more towers from metro no did they take old technology from metro no. sprint is mostly on government towers right now. most of the agreements will stop after the merger and also to cut cost tool bag. its how business works why have spend more money when you can gut it out and make more profit its not like you are saving a ton with tmobile. its only a $5 difference from verizon. its a carrier not some movement bro sorry but you’re 100% wrong here.

        • RockStar2005

Except 5G is coming and they’re putting up new towers (which are way smaller than 4G) all over the place.

        • Aaron a

ya right you kidding bro, they just flipped a switch they have not installed it on one smaller tower; tmo has had a hard time because its only 600mhz and they are doing what att did with 5ge these 5ge and tmo 5ge clone 5g is the same thing. they are buying sprint for more spectrum thats it. if you look around anywhere you will find that tmo hasn’t placed any small units or towers. please google they have great articles about how slow the fake tmo 5g is and how it can go the further. reason is its just 4g lte with massive mimo 4×4 which is the same as att 5ge technology at least att is stating truth here. tmo will lie to customers till the cows come home. its a business if everyone starting calling out tmobile fake 5g they would stop they need to be sued for misleading consumers with this 5ge clone. sprint has the most reliable and best true 5g in the usa right now. and this is because they are using 2.5ghz its a much faster spectrum and it can go indoors

        • RockStar2005

I don’t think anything AT&T did with 5G was truthful. And not just me. This article by C-Net says more about it. (You’ll have to Google the title cuz Disqus seems to always block links):

          “AT&T’s fake 5G E is slower than Verizon’s and T-Mobile’s 4G”

Yeah Sprint has the mid-band spectrum T-Mo needs to really round out its coverage. When the merger goes through T-Mo will have it and then I believe the overall result will be a much stronger 5G network.

        • Aaron a

plus tmobile on the buy out will do everything they can to get the money back from the merger. they already launched a new 4g network and copied att 5ge service and slapped a 5g logo on 4g service. its pretty cool the fan boys instead of looking at this fake 5g network as a 5ge clone they say its 5g. many reports out here have stated many times its no faster than the 4g lte network already here from tmobile on the slower spectrum of 600 mhz only. 5g requires multiple spectrum and the only reason for this merger is to get true 5g. before people start calling out the fake 5g network. please its a phone carrier its not a movement its not some club its a company out to make as much money as possible doing the least amount of favors to the customer base. also basically sprint will run the new tmobile anyway john is out and softbank is buying companies so john can be a ceo somewhere else. he will leave by the way in 2020. anyway this is a pro tmobile page so IQ’s aren’t very high, so when people come down negatively about tmo and the false advertising and they wont deliver on the rural areas and most of the promises since they will sell boost to dish they got 5billion for that and they will only have to pay 100 million in fines when they dont follow through the merger is going to make the service much worse and not any better and your prices will go up. this is how business work. they already at tmo increased etf from 200 bucks to 800+ and monthly plans have also increased to almost verizon pricing. i will leave tmo after the merger and go to dish since they actually will do something they have 1 billion dollars in fines, if they dont follow through and will loose 800mhz if they dont. so im going with a company that will actually be kinder and give me the service im paying for

        • RockStar2005

If you’re gonna post that much info, you really should consider putting some breaks in. Makes it a lot easier to read.

Yeah I know all about Legere leaving.

AT&T? You mean the original 5G fakers? lol

I don’t think T-Mobile is doing any false advertising with 5G. Even on the low-band the speeds are still a little faster. There are 3 diff versions of 5G………..low-band, mid-band, and high-band. Of course low-band will be slower, but since the range on the high-band is ridiculously bad, you need low and mid band to complete the coverage. Mid-band will come from Sprint once the merger goes through. Right now things are a mess regarding 5G with all carriers. Verizon offers 5G but only high-band, so that’s why ppl I know who have it rarely get a signal unless they stand in the same spot all day.

I’ve seen the promises T-Mo and Sprint have had to make in order to get this merger put through, and if anything, I think rural areas will see the biggest differences, not the smallest.

I had Verizon years ago. Charge a lot, give a little. That seems to be their motto. Even my sister who had Verizon just came back to my family plan on T-Mo to save money. In 2019 she was STILL having limits put on her data plan. Man F Verizon. lol And AT&T’s pricing is awful too. Last time I checked it was $35 than what I was paying per month. F that!!

  • Alvin Brock

My cousin had his messages blocked after he changed phones, but T-mobile unblocked them after he called customer service @ 611.

  • Hailey Madison

I am unable to send any videos or pictures. I am also unable watch any videos. Whether it be videos from my gallery, or videos on apps like instagram and snapchat. They always buffer and it takes a lot of reloading the video for me to be able to see it smoothly. (sometimes reloading it a bunch of times doesn’t even work) I called apple and they didn’t seem to know what the problem could be. It must be T-mobile’s issue. Please fix this!

    • Reagan1

It is but TMO has downplayed since yesterday early afternoon. Sucks as couldnt send pics or any pretty much all day yesterday. Seems fixed for the most part now depending on your area.

  • JMF_mobile

Yeah i didn’t notice until i started getting mms messages about midnight from people i knew wouldn’t send them that late.

  • Mookie

Does this affect universal rcs? Because it seems this could be fixed by using RCS, not the carriers stupid version but through Google messages.

Or, you know, telegram, WhatsApp, signal, ect.

    • Aaron a

Rcs runs off data, MMS does not work on Google service so if it’s a rcs message then it won’t have a problem. Plus this problem was with TMobile servers not Google’s

      • Mookie

I was curious because I have been having network issues for a week or so.

    • RockStar2005

Yeah any group RCS chat texts I had going were fine all day. It was ONLY MMS that was affected.

  • Notpoliticalyet

Having issues just with texts in general on Christmas Day. I received texts overnight last night that were sent during the day yesterday. Ridiculous that it’s almost 2020 and I’ve been texting since around 1999, and this is going on.

    • steveb944

Wait till New Year’s, it’s even worse. Or major events.

      • Notpoliticalyet

Are you saying for all carrier’s?

        • steveb944

Of course. That’s including calls not going through at midnight.

        • Notpoliticalyet

          I ain’t calling anyone at midnight..lol

  • Phil

My wife couldn’t send pictures yesterday, I didn’t try, and I am still getting pictures from others from yesterday. They have yesterday’s time stamp on them with one just coming through only minutes ago.

    • RockStar2005

Yeah I started to get some last night around 1-2am (Chicago).

  • reggjoo

Seems to be running again. Even mms’s are fast again.

  • Aaron a

Don’t get me started on wifi calling servers keeps getting over loaded and I get randomly kicked off. I need wifi calling since the towers can’t deliver proper service in my big city which I live in.

  • none

Sounds like we need to really get rid of the old MMS/SMS system, move to full RCS. Go all-in on an all-IP system. Drop 3G fallback and just use LTE. I’m sure an additional 5x5MHz of LTE would do wonders for places like where I live..

    • Sharti24

After the sprint merger im sure they will decommission 3G hspa

      • Albert Orange

You would think… but T-Mo still operates an EDGE net work… so…. yeah….

        • Sharti24

Tell me about it. Im using an iPhone 6s Plus and at my desk i connect to 2 bars of 2G Edge. Step outside and i get 2 bars of band 12 LTE. I wish i could set my phone to LTE only mode.

  • Joseph Ferraro

All of my incoming texts were delayed on Christmas day. They came in 24 hours later.
