OnePlus 6T will feature an in-screen fingerprint reader

The OnePlus 6T is expected to debut later this year as the new flagship smartphone from OnePlus, and today the company confirmed a major feature of its upcoming device.

OnePlus says that the OnePlus 6T will include an in-screen fingerprint reader. The company confirmed the news to CNET and shared the screenshot you see below, which shows the OnePlus 6T lock screen complete with a fingerprint near the bottom of the screen to indicate where you need to place your finger.

Here’s OnePlus’s explanation for why it chose to include an in-screen fingerprint reader with the OnePlus 6T:

“We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action. By adding this feature as an addition to other display unlocking options such as Face Unlock, users will have options to unlock the display in a way that is most efficient for them.”

Rumors have suggested that the OnePlus 6T will launch at T-Mobile in October, which would make the device the first OnePlus phone to officially launch at a U.S. carrier. It’s possible that we’ll get to meet the OnePlus 6T on the date shown in the screenshot, October 17th. In addition to a launch at T-Mobile, it’s rumored that the OP6T could have a smaller notch that the OnePlus 6 that was released earlier this year.

The question is weather to get this one out wait for the OnePlus 7 and 5g. We have no idea how soon 5g will be functional.

      • PC_Tool

Why not both? Both is good. :)

          Maybe :)

Probably give 5g at least another two years, LTE will be more than adequate until then.

I would get the t version as its the same thing like with iPhone it’s the faster model with newer features it may be 5g compatible

        • Ver

It’s not 5g. It doesn’t have the right processor in it. It’s an 845. The 5g processor will be an 855. There is only one phone that might come out with that by the end of this year and it’s not the 6t. The OnePlus 7 will have it. I just don’t think I can wait that long.

With the smaller notch I hope they still kept the notification LED

I’m quite indifferent about this feature. It’s not something I find exciting.

I think the reader on the back (Nexus 5X) would still be easier to use.
Your hand is already there when you pick up the phone…on the front, you basically have to use your thumb.

Or use the other hand, which defeats the purpose of convenience. The technology itself is probably more interesting than its actual application.

I can finally stop being irritated by movies and TV that show on-screen fingerprint readers that don’t exist in phones. It’s annoying to see the laziness of writers having actors place perps’ thumbs up against a screen to “unlock” a phone instead of using an actual, real life fingerprint reader.
