MyTouch 1.2 Pics, TmoNews Edition

Thanks to one of our oh so trusty tipsters, we now have exclusive pics of the upcoming myTouch 1.2 aka “myTouch with a 3.5mm jack”, although it looks exactly the same as the original myTouch 3G, with the exception of the 3.5mm jack. ┬áThe device (like we told you) will be launching tomorrow Wednesday, February 10th. As stated before, the myTouch 1.2 will include a 3.5mm headphone jack, Swype right out of the box, an extra memory boost (256MB RAM) and the new myTouch will also come pre-installed with an 8GB microSD memory card. For $149.99 (with a 2 year contract) you can take home a brand spankin’ new myTouch 1.2. I say it’s well worth the price. Hit the jump for more pics! Anyone picking up one of these?

I would if I didn’t just buy one three months ago. Even though I am happily rooted, I can’t help but feel jilted and pissed. I paid full price.

    • ItsMichaelNotMike

Just curious, since I don’t have this phone. But if you have a warranty claim, say in about six months, I believe they will replace your phone with this updated model. That’s how I have heard they handled it on other phones.

Just be real nice to the CSR and they should do it. Assuming you make a warranty claim, of course.

      • Broke

Ha ha! Thank you for the tip. I have not heard of this but I will definitely keep that in mind :)

  • AndroidMaster

Haven’t been paying alot of attention, but will it be avaliable in black also?

    • Kickstar13

Yes. It will be available in both White and Black.

      • Zmobile

yeah all we got shipped today was black and white, no word on the red.

  • Fireball

Trading 2 defective Cliqs in tomorow for 1 in each color. Cliq might be getting 2.1 in March but I can’t deal with a non-responsive touch screen that long. Too bad to, I was just getting used to MotoBlur. BTW i’m sure you guys are right but an in store rep told me yesterday that her screen was showing the boost to 288MB RAM not 256MB, for what it’s worth. Not enough difference to matter too much. Not starting wars just letting all know what she told me.

    • 2FR35H

Actually that is much more of a difference… That is easily like 4 or 5 more apps that can be stored on the phone itself.

      • eYe

Actually that has nothing to do with how many apps you can store on the phone. This is RAM memory, not ROM. Extra 32MB is a huge deal for a phone. But unfortunately, eventhough phone itself has 288 MB, only 256 MB are available for Android. Still, way better then G1 or original Mt3G which have 128 MB and only 90 some are available for Android.
Hope that clears it up a little bit.

  • Fireball

    Any conformation on that ZMobile?

    • Zmobile

nope no confirmation other than the fact all we got shipped in today was 8 mytouch 1.2s, 4 behold 2’s and 1 teal equinox.

      • Fireball

Thanks for the reply. Guess we’ll all find out in the morning

      • jovanny

hey so you work for tmobile? I bought the original last year and have insurance can I claim my phone stolen get the new one and keep the old one our what do you suggest I do to get this new phone for the cheapest price and try to keep my old one if I can?

  • CO_yeti

I tried out the sywpe today and it rocks! Didn’t think I would like it and I was completely wrong.

  • FILA

nice, im just surprised we didnt get hardly any leaks of this, this whole time, except for the day before it gets released. I got the original myTouch (wow that sounds funny) and well this isnt worth an upgrade. Waiting to see whats in store in both cell phone shows for T-Mobile, if anything worthwhile

  • SayaX

I like the original placement of the headphone jack (through the bottom). Others may probably would not agree, but I think it’s easier managing a wire coming out the bottom rather than the top. It looks old school anyway. I prefer it from the bottom. I can see where it might cause issues with the length of the cord though. I’ve got a few G1 mini to 3.5 adapters kicking around anyway and they have the long cord length.

    • Broke

I agree with you 100%. I especially like the ability to stop and start music through the adapter. So convenient!

    • cu2cool

“I prefer it from the bottom.” That’s what she said.

“ability to stop and start music through the adapter” Agreed, but remembering to carry around the adapter can be a pain compared to plugging with any 3.5mm jack any time.

  • 2FR35H

no because if you have a lanyard it would hold the phone upside down

  • Cody

I plan on returning my Mytouch I bought last week to get the new one. Do you think they’ll mind if I return it without the pouch?

    • Kyle

I’m wondering the same thing since I will be returning mine too.

  • Rick

What OS does this have? Will it have 2.0 or 2.1? Anyone can confirm?

    • Kyle

It will come included with 1.5 than get a OTA update right after you buy it (or you can manually do it by going to the T-mobile forums) and it will get 1.6. The Fender myTouch will get 2.1 and this new version will have the same RAM as the Fender. I don’t see why this one or the previous version shouldn’t get 2.1. Rooted users who are running 2.1 say it runs smoothly so maybe T-Mo will release it along w/ the Cliq in Spring?

  • BronxBebe

CUTE! I like the fact tmo is really getting these good prices on to compete with the others..

  • StevenG

I’d get it, but I JUST bought the Fender. Also, this looks like it’s just a MyTouch Fender, but without the Fender.

  • I am upgrading today and I’ve never had a smart phone, never had an ipod touch, ect. I am really happy to say while there are other phones I want out there, this one is in my budget and does everything I want! And I have $$ left over for beats by dre (rolls eyes..)

  • ItsMichaelNotMike

Guess this confirms that the multi-function USB port, including audio, was a mistake?

I wonder how HTC and T-Mo suffered in terms of sales because of the lack of a 3.5 audio port.

I have to admit, as much as I liked my T-Mobile Touch Pro2, the USB audio port was a hassle. Did not think it would be, but it was.

Feel fortunate to have sold my TP2 a few weeks ago, for $40 more than I paid for it. With all these changes, this is an additional reason I guess I’m lucky to have sold the TP2.

  • randall

anybody know if these are going to be a available for for upgrade eligible customers right away or do we have to wait

  • Kendrix_myrealname

This really pisses me off everytime I see it. Im thinking about “losing” my phone to get a 1.2 replacement. But knowing T-Mo, and I know their system pretty well, they will give me the same phone back. But I wont be able to obtain the Merlot color if they even offered it to me. Plus I don’t want to replace my invisishield.

  • Alex

I hope the snowstorm does not keep me from getting this tomorrow. I have my full upgrade. I hope this gets 2.1 by the spring.

  • Cody

I returned my Mytouch to get the Mytouch 1.2 (it is seriously called that, says so on the back of the box), and I’m glad I did. i love the 3.5mm jack, and the 8GB card is certainley an upgrade. The RAM boost helps too, phone handles much faster. I can confirm it runs Android 1.6 out of the box.

    • jovanny

How long did you have the original 3g for

  • Tennisguy

The phone is available to anyone right away. It just might not be the 150 you would get with a full upgrade

  • zaxxx33

mytouch 3g sucks. its slow, sluggish and the touch screen blows.

  • shawn1224

Just picked up the Black version. It’s fast …. extremely fast. I have the Behold II as well and it’s much faster than Behold II unrooted running touchwiz.

  • Boostonu

Upgraded to a Mytouch via Customer service on Sunday unaware of this 1.2 update. Phone shipped on Weds! I called and i am refusing the shipment and they will send out the new version…According to a few things i have read this upgrade in memory is worth it, tmo rep said so as well…I asked if i should just keep the old one, He said oh No! memory alone is worth the upgrade. Just my 2 cents…Peace

  • bing bang

I’m eligible for an upgrade right about now. And I REALLY want an android phone. I’m thinking of getting this one since it’s updated now. What do you guys suggest? Get it or wait for something possibly better.
