T-Mobile says that calls are back to normal nationwide

tmobiletowermagenta

Friday afternoon, some folks started having issues making calls over LTE and Wi-Fi. It turns out that T-Mobile was suffering from a rather significant outage affecting customers across the country, but T-Mo says that the issue has now been cleared up.

John Legere and T-Mobile have announced on Twitter that “calls are operating normally nationwide.” Several customers are reporting that their calling is working, though some say that they’re still having issues. If you fall into the latter category, it might be worth turning your phone off and then turning it on again to see if that clears things up.

This outage is significant because of its length and because it caused difficulties for folks trying to make voice calls, one of the most basic functions of cellphones. If there’s any upside here, it’s at least that this happened on the weekend than during the week, when more businesses might’ve been affected. But it was still a significant outage, and a lot of folks are wondering if they’ll be getting any kind of credit for the problems. So far, I haven’t spotted any announcements about service credits.

Now that John Legere and T-Mo say that calling is back to normal, how are things on your end?

A true un-carrier would give a credit on the customers monthly bill who were effected for the length of time they couldn’t make calls. It was very annoying to not be able to call anyone yesterday.

    • mike

Well, voice and text service for one standard line is $50. Divide that by 30 days. Round off the outrage at 2 days. $1.66/day. $3.33 is you approximate credit. Enjoy

      • x

Outrage?! Was that a Freudian slip?

  • x

I say it is not normal yet, when I make a call LTE turns off for the duration of the call.

    • x

But, if that’s your case, restart your phone. i did, now LTE doesn’t turn off when I make a call.

I hope they improve reliability after all this.

    • Rod

If you need to make a call and it goes through does it matter how it gets routed?

      • x

Yes, when and where you only have B12 LTE service.

  • Buster Nutwell

still having some issues with texts… have to send them a few times before they go through.

    • Sushimane

Have you gotten the same text from a person multiple times and receive late texts

    • steveb944

Are you sure that’s not WiFi Calling? That’s what was doing it to me so I shut it off.

  • I had this issue Wednesday and tweeted to them about it.

  • Daniel Darnell

I couldn’t make/receive phone calls for a few hours Friday evening, texting and all data was fine though. Still very annoying especially since I was out! Luckily the outage in my area didn’t last too long and all other services outside of voice worked fine.

  • Mike Towner

As of noon on Sunday, Pacific time, we are still unable to receive calls or texts that originate outside of the T-Mobile network.

  • jb soothe

have 8 lines should be $15 credit for each line that’s what they told me don’t give up your high value paying customer

      • guest

$10 per line would be reasonable in this case. Because you can’t say your kids lost important calls to demand a lot more.

        • Kaulana1989

$10 is measly come on bro the outage is bad when you can’t make phone calls that life and death situation people nowadays don’t have landlines including me I depend on a reliable connection

        • guest

How about $30 first line, $20 second line, then $10 for each additional line.

I have one line, I don’t feel like calling for $15,

So if someone has only 1 line and got at least $25, please let me know.

        • Kaulana1989

I got $50 off for two lines an additional $10 off for the other network outage they had before this one

        • Kaulana1989

          So $60 total

        • Kaulana1989

I have accumulated almost $600 worth of credit on my account

        • Kaulana1989

Because I switched from Sprint I took advantage of the $400 switching credit plus I got $50 in referral credit plus I got a free month of service $122 value and a lot of other extra credits for outages in my area that are experiencing

        • guest

          Lucky you.

        • Kaulana1989

Yea they tried to charge me proration one month because I changed my due date I got them to waive the bill for the month of February that’s all who you talk to you got to be sweet and kind and like me

        • Kaulana1989

Customer care told me they are going by $15 per line

        • Kaulana1989

I got $60 off I only have two lines it’s who you talk to

    • Dude you got cheated! if you have 8 lines, going by the formula of $15 per line, you should have a credit of: $120

      • Kaulana1989

I agree he got cheated I got $60 off I only have two lines

  • People use “phones” to make “calls”? How quaint

  • steveb944

Only affected for a few hours, the silence during work wasn’t bad at all. Glad to see it back and ready to go.

  • I called up and asked for a $60 credit. $15 for each of my 4 lines. And less than 2 minutes later it was done! I just said nicely: Hello, I’d like a $60 credit, $15 for each of my 4 lines, because of the service outage. She didn’t waste no time. Verified that I spoke with Support about it and BAM!

  • guest

What would be reasonable when it comes to credits?
    I suggest $30 for 1 line, $40 for 2, $50 for 3, $60 for 4, $70 for 5, $80 for 6, $90 for 7, $100 for 8…

    • kgraham182

I say $10 per line would be fair for 2 days of interrupted service. John & Co may have to set aside some money for the FCC. Hope no one had problems with E911 cause the government use no Vaseline when they take their cut.

      • guest

You want to help T-Mobile save money? Then feel free not to ask for any. ;) :)

  • xealo

Called customer care, got $30($15 per line). Super easy and quick. Thanks to everyone who made this suggestion!

  • Daniel Darnell

I only had a few hours of my T-Mobile service not working on Friday. Sent them a message on Facebook about it and they gave me a $50 service credit. I think that’s more than fair for a minor outage and they were super nice about it and did it very quickly as well. T-Mobile’s Facebook support is pretty nice! :-)

    • guest

      How many lines?

      • Daniel Darnell

Three smart phone lines and two tablet lines, so 5 total.

        • guest

Tablets weren’t affect, as far as I know, so $50 for 3 phone lines is pretty good. Congrats.

        • Daniel Darnell

Apparently it doesn’t matter if they are phone lines or tablet lines, you just get $10 per line regardless. Which is pretty good. I honestly wasn’t expecting that much but it’s nice to know they are being so good to customers about this and keeping us updated.

  • Zach B.

Just got a $60 credit, $10 per 6 of my lines after contacting their online support team. They tried getting me to accept a $20 credit at first, however I then argued about how their support team on FB and Twitter have been offering $10-$15 per line. The representative “went away” for a minute, and came back and gave me a proper credit! Best of luck to others seeking fair compensation.

    • Taz

How to get in touch with them on Facebook?

      • Zach B.

I contacted T Mobile through their online chat from their website. However normally all you need to do to contact them on FB or Twitter is just to send a message or tweet to them.

    • Kaulana1989

I got a $50 credit I only have two lines

    • Kaulana1989

You should have gotten 15 each line

  • Saul Viayra

I’m having issues again any one else having problems?

    • x

I didn’t have a problem with calls and texts but I was having a very slow LTE the last 4 days, but yesterday LTE was good. Now LTE is slow again,

I think the LTE bands or at least B12 are saturated. I really don’t how it works or how is T-Mobile handling congestion, nor I know if a phone grabs and holds onto the band with the stronger signal even if it’s congested.

I have a phone with all the T-Mobile UMTS and LTE bands but no CA.

For now I may switch the phone to UMTS, you can try that if you’re in an area with those bands available.

      • Saul Viayra

I think it was LTE in general I had 3g all day long and here in Indy we have all three LTE bands

  • David

it’s quite ironic that today when I called CS about the service outage credit, they had to call me back because call was disconnected. On top of that, they had to try like 6 times because very time they call and I answer it’s pure silence on the other end.

    • Saul Viayra

      Did you get the credit?

      • patt

I got 30$ bill CR via twitter. Seems fair to me. 10$/per line (3 lines) that’s how the rep calculated.

        • Kaulana1989

I got $50 off my bill I only have two lines it’s who you talk to one guy told me It was only only $5 credit that’s ridiculously measly good thing he honoured the previous Representative $30 credit and I got an additional $20 credit

      • David

I got $100, but I have 10 lines, so it’s only $10/line, not as good as some of the folks that got $50 for 2 lines.

  • luis

    I got $40.00 on 3 lines

  • Allen Alberto Enriquez

Well I notice it barely closer to evening 2/21/2016 I had for more then 2 weeks I had issues data too, in fresno, clovis(this I shall see when i get back to fresno) , in merced, atwater, modesto, turlock, orville it was only one day that I was passing by on train from Fresno to Sacramento(this was on the 19th), chico ca it. was 3 days of malfunction, which was irritating I do give T-Mobile Kudos for fixing the issues.
Update; I still have calling issues in Chico ca 95926.

    • D. Zalewski

      Now in English please.

      • Allen Alberto Enriquez

Sorry about my writhing this was really fast and late just to see how many people had been in the same shoes.(i hope this is more understanding & thanks for catching my severe sentence errors.)

      • Honestea

        D. Zalewski… Please try your best to represent yourself in the same way you would if you were face to face with someone. Having an “internet barrier” does not make you more confident, important, or intelligent. It acutally makes you shallow and moronic.

    • Honestea

Dont waste your time with unproductive people who “get off” on giving themselves an un-earned sense of respect. Zalewski has no business correcting grammar or correcting anyone. Fortunately, we live in an area where people can speak freely and english is not the only language. I understand you just fine and that’s literally all that matters. Zalewski got a little bit of an ego boost insulting you but, sadly for him he went home to his wife who actually does see him everyday and she made sure to knock him down a peg.

      • Allen Alberto Enriquez

        LMAO!Thanks honestea!

    • guest

When I have LTE on data is very slow at times, so I switch to UMTS(3g/4G) and I get faster data speeds but I’m missing some calls. So now I have LTE on because calls are more important to me. But it shouldn’t be like that,

I think T-Mobile is having some serious congestion issues that I don’t know how they may solve it.

One solution could be ending free Binge On data streaming but keeping the “optimization” and maybe lowering the rates or giving some estra Gigs to compensate.

      • Allen Alberto Enriquez

Yes thank you guest so much I am so happy that I am not the only one! I mean bad that is happening to both of us. At least we are going to be heard. During my last days before no data tech said to do what you did it help so now I have to switch in between. Nightmare but great program kudos to John Legere + Magenta team for binge on just wish it was ease of use like Turing on Wi-Fi options. Thanks again for sharing!
