Some More Hands-On Time With The HTC One S

We’ve already had a chance to check out the HTC One S vicariously through at least one other hands-on video out of Barcelona…this time our man Aaron from PhoneDog is on the ground checking out the HTC One S. Of course, we’re a little jealous he gets a full 2 minutes with the device and we’re an ocean away.

As a quick reminder, the HTC One S arrives with a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 CPU, 4.3″ qHD AMOLED display, 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording, front-facing camera, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and HTC Sense 4.

T-Mobile says the HTC One S will arrive “This Spring,” which of course allows us to hope for an April timeframe, right after the Blaze S 4G launches in March.

So, you want to know just how good the HTC One S really is? Check this out.

I hope it has a better battery on it than Amaze :(

    • Encino Stan

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon S4 is supposed to be much better in power management than the S3 that is in the Amaze and Sensation.

  • Brad

I am not sold yet. I don’t know whether to wait out for SGS3 or what.

  • Auser72

Looks Nice. I am happy with my SG2 but i do miss some of the functions of sense ui. If the mt4g had a larger screen i probably would have kept it for another year.

    • CeeFu

Right there with you. Since putting Cyanogen on my MT4G I’ve been MUCH happier with it, and the difference between any my wife’s which is stock is like night and day.

But I so wish I had a bigger screen!!!!! If I did, I wouldn’t be chomping at the bit to upgrade.

  • Agent006

I still don’t get why other manufacturers are still trying hard to do what Apple does.  Now our apps go from left to right like the iPhone.

    • guest

shut up troll! I’m tired of these douches bringing up apple in every article! tmobile isnt getting it so shut up and die already

      • Bratty

Woah. Relax chica. No need to get all worked up.

  • My2Cents

Nice phone but not different enough for me to want to switch out my SG2 or my wifes Amaze.  Where do we go from here?  Are we maxed out with dual core phones yet?  I wonder what the next game changer will be.

    • Dirk Digler

      Samsung gs3.

Battery life is going to be the deal breaker here.   I know the capacity of the battery isn’t much.

Unless Sammy comes out with the SGIII soon……I will jump on this phone come Spring time.Love the new camera/video features/Software and looking forward to a phone that is lighter and thinner then my Amaze.

According to some of the tech sites, this phone is fricken fast and smokes almost everything out there in benchmarks….until at least sammy shows us what they got.

  • Rob rollings

Meh. I learned my lesson when I bought the 3G Slide. Never buy a phone that comes out in the Spring.

  • Anonymous

No more HTC for me. I had too many issues with their phones.
The phone has nice specs and design though.

    • Anonymous

stop geting them based on design thats so stupid.

  • Abc

Basically this is a Sensation with the Amaze battery and with ICS… i don’t see the big deal… what a disappointment again… come on HTC…..

    • Ohgeez10

Really? Have you not read all the specs, tech sites and blogs on this phone? One of the fastest processors out there, thinnest phone, new camera/video software features, ICS, etc.

What other phone out there has blown you away? Just curious.

    • Evan Carter

And the G1 is the same as the G2…. *yawn*…. Seriously, what do you expect? A phone with a jet pack attached to it? Its an upgrade in every way for the most part.

  • Jdmap1

never a HTC for me anymore. Thanks for showing.

  • David Rosen

that took FOREVER for the phone “app” to come up. please tell me its an early build or something. otherwise i’ll still be waiting.

  • Taron19119

Well t-mobile be showing more phones at mwc 2012

  • BigMixxx

    I have a sensation…Hell, for 41 megapixels,  I’m thinking about that dadgum 41 megapixel farm…

    • Wizzstar

This smartphone phone should be named the HTC One S Sensation II ……!

      • BigMixxx

Well..that would actually probably carry over better than…the one…Call Neo or Mr. Anderson…

But woooh….We don’t want to get in the Sprint Naming conventions.   Epic 4g touch, samsung Galaxy S II

        • Wizzstar

If I were going to roll with a new TMOUSA smartphone, let’s be for real, for real, it would be Mr. Sammy’s Galaxy S Tray III(3) …(lol)  Mr. Sammy is out to Kill the iphone, it’s the iphone killer alright … Mr. Sammy is saying to Apple, don’t hate the player, hate the game, because I’m going to get you …

        • BigMixxx

I’m feeling you there.  I have sworn off samsung for a while…I may have to give up and go forth and do and get samsunged myself.

        • Havoktek

          Diggin’ the wordplay fellas

    • Dawg11

41 megapixels…? What are you talking about?

  • http://profiles.google.com/hani.ghanma hani ghanma

glad I just got the sensation 4G. I know it’s kinda old but i got it for cheap off contract. Good enough for me. In a few years I’ll get something much better than this One S.

  • todd ward

time to swtich from htc if this is all that they have for this year samsung looking better and better would love a moto phone if they would come to tmobile

  • http://twitter.com/AWuzzer A Wu

The only thing that bothers me is the fact that there’s no removable battery. That’s usually the deal breaker for me but otherwise this phones soooo awesome!

    • Encino Stan

      No removable battery?

What do you do when your phone locks up? I’ve had to remove the battery from my Sensation a couple of times because the phone froze and I could not even do a shutdown or restart.

      • David Rosen

i’ve always wondered the same thing! especially if you’re into rooting and stuff. battery pulls are just a way of life then.

        • http://twitter.com/AWuzzer A Wu

Yup, Ohgeez10 got it right. My biggest issue is the fact that if the battery needs to be warrantied you have to send your entire device in and you’re out a phone for at least 3-4 business days.

      • Ohgeez10

Im going to assume its like the HTC Radar. When your remove the cover where the sim card goes, the phone turns off.

      • http://doughboydesigns.com Anonymous

You can always hold power + volume up to restart most android devices.

  • Felixdawg11

As some people may have wondered, this phone isn’t any different or even better then the Htc Amaze or Galaxy S II.. It seems the smartphones have hit a bump in the road in terms of progressive specs.

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/NWOCIYMX64U6TYAUMI5NSK2O5A chris meyers

And why are you posting the same nonsense twice? It doesn’t make it any more true.

      • IRIE4IPIER

Please go to bed, get a girlfriend, get a job, something! Stop trolling bud, its only a cell phone, not something you have to sit in front of your CPU crying over.

        P.S. this phone sucks ass.

Are you just clueless or do you not understand the word KRAIT. It’s got an S4 processor. It has about double the speed on benchmarks as the previous S3. Do you know what AMOLED is? Yeah the Amaze doesn’t have that. Do you know what Ice Cream Sandwich? It doesn’t have that either. Do you know that it’s 7.99mm thin? Much thinner than the Amaze? So what do you really know?

      • 30014

I’ve noticed you attacking everyone that isn’t impressed by this phone. Simmer down and accept that people are entitled to their opinions. I don’t care about benchmarks personally but if thats your gauge then more power to you.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/NWOCIYMX64U6TYAUMI5NSK2O5A chris meyers

I haven’t attacked anybody. Now there are factual statements and there are lies. The fact that this person said there wasn’t different from the Amaze or Galaxy S II is about as far from the truth as could be possible. It’s like a Core i7 versus a Core 2 Duo with a die shrink. I don’t care if you don’t care about processor power or benchmarks. The fact that it is DOUBLE AS FAST and about 2 times as power efficient because of the 28nm chipset, which nobody else has, not even Nvidia. Their Tegra 3 is 40nm. This means that this One S AINT the same league as the S II or the Amaze. Period, end of story, the guy was wrong. Deal with that.

        • Anonymous

Actually, what you did was present facts in series of condescending questions. You are a glorified troll that does not know he is trolling…or maybe you do.

        • http://profile.yahoo.com/NWOCIYMX64U6TYAUMI5NSK2O5A chris meyers

Fine, I’m a jerk. I’ll go with that, I don’t care. But I am going to respond when people post one sentence lines that are clearly untrue.

        • Anonymous

Fine it has a much faster processor, but then it loses the SD card slot and has only 16 GB of internal storage (which really means about 10 GB available) and has a non removable battery (so no chance to buy an extended battery). And yes the display is AMOLED but it’s still the same qHD resolution, same size as the Sensation 4G. Plus the Sensation 4G is getting an ICS upgrade before the One S is released. So really to me it’s not a good enough upgrade.
If it had 4.7″ or at least a 4.5″ 720p display and an SD card slot then I would have bought it, but as it is I agree with everyone who says that it’s not a huge upgrade.

      • 30014

the s4 is a pretty big upgrade cores are not everything. and honestly ied rather have smart phones slow down a little so i dont feel like an idiot every time i buy a phone and the next thing is out in a week.

  • Havoktek

Big Whoop, they brung this to the MWC??? Not even close to a future prospect for me, I like my devices, I like my freedom of battery exchange.
Come again HTC, I’m still waiting…….watching……You will get better I hope.

  • Narlystarz

When will The Amaze get Ice Cream Sandwich???

  • nerdlust

My sensation is plenty fast so this must be a beast!!! More then double the bench mark??!! That’s insane. S4 dual core faster then tegra3 quad core??!! I can’t wait to compare..

  • http://www.facebook.com/DeadPlasmaCell Dan Garcia

ICS AND it has physical buttons?? WTF?

  • Nick

He moves his thumb so fast!!

    • IRIE4IPIER

I know, that dude is mad annoying.

  • Anonymous

One S should be my next phone or Galaxy Blaze.
If One S has microSD support, the answer is clear.
I can live with SAMOLED (pentile) as my NS and I don’t have much problem reading small texts on it.

  • Kjeih

Well you may be looking at the blaze. Theres no memory slots but it supports a wireless drive over the network
