Cricket Ramps Up The T-Mobile Attack Marketing

If you thought Cricket WIreless’ previous ad was a doozy you best be checking out this commercial currently running in their service area. I won’t even waste time on words, just watch and comment below. Can someone tell me where this company even has service?

Here in new mexico I call cricket “ghetto wireless”

    • Anonymous

Haha. Here in SF, we call Metro PCS Ghettro Piece of… well, you get the idea. But Metro is actually doing pretty well here.

    • Patmvaldez

Lol! Kind of the same way in El Paso. When my wife and I were doing our taxes, I took my little girl for a walk outside while my wife took care of business. Next door was a Cricket store and the two female customers inside were wearing stripper size high heels. The guy I used to work for had Cricket and half the time he was. out of network. Though one time in socorro, tx i notices the only phones getting service were Cricket. Go figure!

  • Anonymous

Clik doesn’t have service in the whole NE region (they don’t have license at all), metroJUNK has it.
Their phones are 99999th world one even the LTE model. Not to mention tethering is strictly prohibited.

  • http://twitter.com/eb101 mynameseli

haha cricket has like NO coverage

  • http://twitter.com/eb101 mynameseli

even when tmobile is taked over ppl will know about them more then cricket still!

  • TMoFanatic

Their coverage is in the West; I have a friend in Southern California who has Cricket.
I’ve never found a reason to be particularly impressed by them, though.

  • http://tmonews.com David

This news is still relevant because its interesting to see how other carriers are reacting to the AT&T/T-Mobile news. I’ve secured a number of domain names for an eventual move to an AT&T focused site and that’s what will happen.

  • Meagan

This would be a good time for Tmobile to push their lower prepaid plans.

    • http://twitter.com/GregDaGentleman GREG

Oh that’s in works my friend… smh if Cricket only knew

  • John

Cricket is in the Kansas City area.  I think they are using Sprint towers.

  • rev2redlineguy

Hahahahahahaha! I was laughing my bootie off as I saw this commercial. Cricket….really! And being stranded…no way at all. If worse came to worse and this merger goes through, I would bite the bullet and stick it out before I would even consider switching over to Cricket. That would be like me trading in my Porsche for a Yugo….lol!

    • rev2redlineguy

      BTW….I really don’t own a Porsche…lol!

  • http://twitter.com/GregDaGentleman GREG

Cricket is trying to draw people in with offers of free Androids.. smh anyone can make “Free Androids” but people want powerful Androids and Cricket can’t put that on the table… There are a lot of folks who don’t give a crap about price plans, only the phone model they’re using or aspiring to get. Cricket can’t out shine T-Mobile in a Phone to Phone showdown.

  • http://twitter.com/GregDaGentleman GREG

  • j-man

wow this is ridiculous!! I think that cricket would be the one that would leave you stranded.  like many others have said, I would rather stick with the merger than switch to Cricket.  If things come to worse, I would go to Boost or Virgin before Cricket.

  • Dalton

Its a chicago based carrier yet I live <150 miles from there and coverage is worse than anybody out here. They even have a cricket store 1/2 a mile away.

    • Dalton

I can’t remember which one is less than so whatever, that’s what I meant.

    • dave

Crickets corporate headquarters is San Diego although their service is in Chicago. I live in Chicago and would not want to make this city look bad. US Cellular is based in Chicago. Probably switch to them when Tmo goes.

      • j-man

I know that with US Cellular, you get pretty service, almost everywhere.  I am from Chicago and I know people that have US Cellular and they are pretty happy with it.  Just that it is much more expensive than T-Mobile.

      • Zach747

not make the city look bad??? chicago has to be the most corupt, greedy city in the nation, never met so many hosiers in my life, nasty nasty city.

    • Anonymous

I am also from Chicago, and cricket is hit and miss coverage wise.  There are times in the suburbs where you lose coverage randomly for no reason.  Their coverage maps are a joke, and areas marked with “we’ve got you covered” don’t always have service even though the map says so.  My son had cricket for 4 months of poor coverage, missed texts, and cs reps in far away places that were not  understandable.  No thank you, pass.

  • Anonymous

I have a lot of respect for prepaid regional carriers like Cricket and Metro, and even Sprint-owned prepaid companies like Boost and Virgin. I love their pricing structure: bring your own phone, and pay a flat, simple, prepaid rate for each month of service. Straightforward and honest. The coverage is sometimes lousy, but for a lot of people it works well enough where they live, work and play, and they’re not too concerned about whether they can get signal everywhere else.

Plus, no credit checks or contracts or other nonsense.

As a side note, if you go on Cricket’s (or Metro’s) site and they say they don’t offer service in your area, that doesn’t mean you won’t get signal there, just that they don’t have native towers. You can still activate in another part of the country and use your phone in that zip code; it’ll just be roaming (likely on Sprint.) They just can’t sell you service based on roaming coverage.

    • Anonymous

Bring your own phone? They don’t accept Sprint-branded devices on the Sprint MVNOs as far as I know.

      • http://twitter.com/nrfitchett4 Nicholas Fitchett

for 20 bucks you can get your sprint phone flashed to cricket.

  • juicebox

Perhaps if they offered me an Android device NOT made by Huawei (or ZTE although that is not mentioned), then I might consider it. Right now, I don’t trust these specific telecom equipment providers.

    “So smart, so crooked”

  • dave

Tmo is a first class company. Sales ,reception, phones good, better if they had more choices, rates. Cricket is not even compeating with them, guess they don’t know this. Crickets base is ppl with bad credit, and little money,or just really cheap ppl with money and credit,so the ad can’t work to lure away tmo ppl. I may stay with Tmo to get the Atrix from AT&T.

    • Dewey Cox

Same can be said for some of T-Mo customer base. That’s how they got started.

      • Rashad McCray

Not the same. We owned our own towers(not leased them) and we prioritized customer service. I’m not even sure cricket has customer service from what i hear.

    • dave

      well Atrix2 then.

    • Zach747

lol tmobile is so succesfull, it couldn’t sustain a business model…

  • LFMAO

    so desprate! So crooked!

  • Bleedingelement2231

cricket service cant even compare to T-Mobile….cricket service sucksss and the phone are not even worth going to cricket!

  • trife

We all know Cricket can’t really compare to TMO.  But I will never understand people getting all butt hurt when their particular brand/company of choice happens to be in someone else’s crosshairs.

It’s called business folks.  A smart company will use any and every opportunity to gain ground on those ahead of them.  That’s all this is…a marketing move to generate more business and more $$.  No need to get all up in arms.

    • Dswagg2k10

No, thanks dishonesty. If you if get with a company like that they’re just going to do the same to you. #JustSaying

  • Maschwar77

Maybe Cricket could have taken the advertising dollars spent on creating this smear campaign and used them instead to improve their network.  Just a suggestion …. what do I know?

  • HTC Pyramid

not sure why all of the negative comments about people who use Cricket. They work hard for their dollars just like I do and you might. Hell, customers on Verizon and ATT think most T-mobile customers are customers with bad credit…think before you bash others.

    • Todd Nelson

We don’t have bad credit, we just don’t want to spend that much for cell service.  Not when T-mobile offers better service for less.  Only thing Verizon and ATT has on T-mobile is the phone selection.  T-mobile is closing that gap now too.  ATT’s excuse for wanting to buy T-mobile is them basically admitting they need a better network.  I guess all the complaints about their service have finally pushed them into doing something and this seems to be their fastest way of accomplishing it.

      • http://twitter.com/nrfitchett4 Nicholas Fitchett

wow, really??? T-mobile offers better customer service for sure, but their network has been terrible for me here in San Antonio (like the 8th largest city in the USA). Frequent outages of 3g/4g and 3 complete service outages in the last year. At least Sprint was reliable. Beginning to think cdma = slow but reliable and GSM = fast but unreliable. T-mobile also runs on the highest frequencies which means I get no service in my office unless I’m next to a window. Even had to get a Wifi hotspot from time warner just so I could have connection at work for internet. Switching to Verizon is actually saving me money because they are offering free mobile to mobile right now so I don’t have to have an unlimited plan and extra lines are only 10 bucks a month plus data which is really unlimited. T-mobile isn’t the deal it used to be unless you are a legacy customer.

  • Xavi620

Guys, I work for Cricket and I can tell you that they are really stepping up their game, they wouldn’t be doing this if they didn’t had a crappy network. We’re upgrading to 4G LTE in the begining of next year and with the deal with lightsquared should make our 4G service even better. We will be launching dual core Android phones by the end of the year, and the CEO of the company is even thinking about launching postpaid(contract), alongside or prepaid plans to get better smartphones available.

    • Lighting

Sorry, but in my area cricket has horrible service. And everyone knows it. You made a great comment but, EVERYTHING you said that is good about cricket has not even happend yet. I don’t buy cell service because a company will have great service in the future. I buy because they have good service.

      • http://profiles.google.com/jjwagner33 J.J. Wagner

Plus, why did Cricket compare their pre-paid plans with T-mobile’s post paid plans.  Shouldn’t have been same type of account plans?

        • delusion ftl

Does t-mobile give you a free phone if you use their post paid plans like cricket does?   That’s why.

    • dave

From what I’ve read, what you say is true. I figure them to be a good nationwide carrier in the future. Which of the 2 will buy them out then is the question,AT&T,or VZ?

  • Anonymous

Usually you attack your biggest competitor, I’m very happy with T-Mobiles service. No other carrier can give me close to what I’m getting with T-Mobile. Cricket ???? Are they even in business yet ???? They better step up their game because if T-Mobile gets swallowed up Cricket will get swatted away like a bug.

  • Anonymous

If I were to ditch T-Mobile for a prepaid carrier, I’d switch to Metro PCS. At least they have 4G LTE. Why would I switch to a crappy CDMA carrier like Cricket?

  • HD2android

Im Not even sure cricket is available in my area.. But its a good marketing ploy ! I guess i have to say great commercials because look @ all this chatter about a bug !

  • BWest

Cricket is sold in my area of OH (Dayton).  My question is why would I want to give up my myTouch 4G for their Piece of Crap (2.5 headphone jack, Bloatware, and crappy dialer UI…), year plus out of date (android 2.1), Huawei Ascend… and that is their best phone!

  • Dave

Cricket taking on T-Mobile is like T-Mobile taking on Verizon…

  • Anonymous

Lmao cricket r u serious? My g2x is faster with no service then cricket with 3g xD

    • Dswagg2k10

      i love you cosmo lmao

  • Flashburn503

I’m originally from Portland, Oregon but living in Maine Cricket is all over the Pacific Northwest Iv’e heard rumors that they are a goverment run company who knows if it is true or not but you never know!!!

    • ColdFeet

Prolly because everyone who uses Cricket is on food stamps and welfare…

    • Bearlymisbehavin06

Government run? That could be true? LOL…crap, that is enough reason to avoid them, they cannot run a country. No, wait, I got it, yes….They probably do own Cricket, they want to give you crap phones, lousy service, not tell you all about the fine print and so forth, yep, sounds about right to me,maybe we have an answer after all?

Hahahahaha. Trade in my Samsung Vibrant for a Huwaii Ascend…

They should atleast offer a real phone.

  • Patmvaldez

All kidding aside I know one niche Cricket has, at least among my daughters friends is its a good kids line if you want unlimited web/call/text.. Consider Tmobile unlimited family plan. If memory serves, the cost to add a third line with unlimited calling is $40. Add unlimited data at $30 and the kids line is costing you an extra $70 so its a good option to just get them a Cricket phone account that can easily and cheaply deactivated for punishment.

    • BWest

Yea, and you want a piece of crap phone for them in case they lose it, damage it or are otherwise irresponsible with their technology.

      • Patmvaldez

True. My daughters friend is on Tmobile and her parents got her a Mytouch 4G which she lost a week and a half after getting it.

    • Lcb084

Lol… Add a line for unltd is now $30 and data as little as $10… That eqautes to $40… Sounds like tmobile is the better choice for a kids line

      • Patmvaldez

That $10 for 200mb of data, not unlimited. Let’s not compare apples to oranges.

No kid will get by with just 200mb. ;)

        • http://profiles.google.com/jjwagner33 J.J. Wagner

So do the 2GB web for $20 and the unlimited minutes for $30, which includes the add a line fee.  They could also just be 500min per month, which for many teens is fine because they mostly text.

        • Soapboxmanic

$10 is unlimited web with a soft cap of 200MB.  What that means is you will not be charged more than $10 a month for internet but your kids speeds will be slowed down after using 200MB.  Honestly a kid shouldn’t use a data phone like that anyway.  Just wanted to point out that it is still unlimited even though you confidently felt that you had a point in the 200MB.  Cricket has their caps too.  Please educate yourself.

        • Bearlymisbehavin06

I agree, and why ARE parents paying all this money for their kid’s cell phones? WHY do kids have cell phones? Why not just get talk and text for the kid and a cheapy phone. No wonder kids do nothing, just cell phones, computers and Wii,etc…. wahoooo …….Keeping track and checking on your kids don’t require a data plan ,does it,really?

        • Soapboxmanic

    • http://twitter.com/nrfitchett4 Nicholas Fitchett

really??? because I have 4 unlimited lines and it costs 40bucks just for minutes and 15 bucks for 200mb of data just because I’m on the unlimited minutes plan. That’s 55 bucks and 70 if the kid uses the internet at all. Cricket has a point, T-mobile is at a standstill until this deal either goes through or falls off.

  • incredibry

HAHAHAHA! why would i give up nation wide hspa+ for crappy low end android phones and crappy coverage? i guess how i see it in this ad, you get what you pay for :)

  • http://twitter.com/mzrdisi Nick

I saw this ad last night and thought how long will it be before Cricket is forced to take this ad down. They are essentially using this ad to make ignorant consumers believe that if you have T-Mobile, you better jump ship because you won’t have a phone provider soon.

Cricket is in the Chicago area, but outside of that I don’t imagine it reaches too far. We have it here in the DeKalb/Sycamore area, but just 20 minutes west in Rochelle, there is nothing. It is cheap, good for those with bad credit and are forced to pay $200-400 for a security deposit on their line. Their “broadband” internet is slow. Had a buddy of mine with it and it sucked hard.

    • delusion ftl

Cricket doesn’t do security deposits or credit checks, just like most other pre-paid carriers.

      • http://twitter.com/mzrdisi Nick

        That’s what I was saying.

cricket has stores in Ft Collins and Greeley Colorado as well.

  • Luis Rivera047088

    LMFAO! Hahahahahahaha!

How much did ATT pay them to do this?

  • slicker

Never heard of em, maybe they are just CRICKETS, and all they do is, make NOISE.

    • Bearlymisbehavin06

Ah,I rather like crickets, maybe it should be changed to “Cockroaches”!  All around fits better. I have had Tmobile for 4 yrs,and I am month to month on the Evermore Plus plan as I stated up above,I pay far less than on a contrac plan now,but you need to go in the store now to do this, it is not on the site like before. As for crappy phones, to each their own, but I LOVE my HTC,and hubby loves his Galaxy. If you go on the Cockroache’s site, LOOK at those phones, ratings,etc.. they are a joke, like near a play cell phone for kids. The only one I have even heard of on there is the Blackberry Curve or Bold! Some look like they came out a cereal box for a toy.

    • Suziq012

My daughter has had cricket here in freano ca for over 3 years and i just got her their new Huawei Ascend smart phone(3G) last december 2010 & the service is great & the internet is really fast and pages load just like my home computer. Their service coverage has improved alot in the last year & their new touch screen android/smart phones are great or atleast their  Huawei Ascend is. I use to have tmo & it was terrable coverage & I was using someone’s at&t web/internet on their 3g android yesturday or tried to use it & internet service is terrible on their smart phones, it don’t load the pages right and takes forever if it loads at all before the phone just restarts because it loses service..

  • Twistmycap

Cricket is soo new ken… hell with them.. im going to sprint if the buyout gos through..
Cricket has the worst worst customer service and insurance plans, REALLY CRICKET?? your phones arent supported, yet alone are cheaply made.. No thanks!

  • http://twitter.com/johntajacobs Johnta` Jacobs

there like CRICKETS TO ME…CAN’T Hear them AT ALL…….

  • Mgt2014

All of these ignorant people talk so bad about cricket when they probably haven’t tried it. The fact is in Houston I get twice as more dropped calls with t-mobile than cricket. I can barley even hold a 3g signal let alone 4g, while on my cricket phone I can always count on having 3g. Yea they arent “4g like speeds” but its reliable. Plus I travel to lake Jackson a lot and t-mobile doesn’t even have 2g there my phone says G where on my cricket my 3g is still kicking.. and I know I have both carriers.

    • Anonymous

Here’s the reality of what you posted – Cricket has no where near the subscriber base as T-Mobile, and no where near the network congestion.

      • me

Network congestion has nothing to do with thier coverage being poor…. At the moment on my tmobile phone I can only text certain people, which sucks I hate tmobile hello cricket

        • Anonymous

That’s due to a routing issue, I’m familiar with it, if you call technical support they can file a trouble ticket and resolve it for you, I used to work for T-mobile and that’s what I did

        • MeSoSilly

HaHaHaHa…. This thread is 2 months old.  No one listening but the crickets

  • David

Only reason I switch to CRICKETS when T-Mobile is dead will be having good phones which they don’t. T-Mobile already has so many crappy Android phones and no wonder their business is not good compare to others. CRICKETS offer even more crappy android phones so no thanks. I wait till T-Mobile is dead and will move to AT&T with much better phones with Blackberry, WP, and maybe iOS.

    • Loalpine

wow, you have no idea what you are talking ABOUT. You actually sound like and average cricket customer, so we would appreciate it if you just stayed where you are with cricket. T-mobile service isn’t for everyone.

    • Bigmerf

i would not call the g2x, nexus, nexus s and sensation4g crappy.. not one bit. that tmo has crappy phones is getting old and becoming obsolete

  • http://twitter.com/SugarMouth Mark Carruthers

Let me get this straight, I can trade in my 30 year old T-Mobile Dash and receive a new Android phone for the price of one month of service?

T-mobile should respond by putting out a commercial that is just the white background
and a little cricket just chirping away… Carly walks in, stomps on
it, smiles and does a little curtsey, then walks out…

I think that would make the point..

  • Mangobeach

The only place I have seen Criket Wireless is in San Diego. Is that their only market?
