Many T-Mobile customers having issues with text messaging today

UPDATE: T-Mobile tells me that the issue is now resolved. How’s everything looking on your end?

ORIGINAL: Having issues sending text messages this morning? If so, you’re not alone.

Many T-Mobile customers say they’re having problems sending text messages today, with reports coming in on Twitter and Reddit from across the country. There are some customers who say that their messages are working fine, but there are folks in Wisconsin, California, Washington, Georgia, New York, and other states who can’t send or receive texts.

I reached out to T-Mobile about the problem but haven’t yet heard back. The official @TMobileHelp account on Twitter has said that T-Mobile is having a nationwide outage.

Are you having any issues with sending and receiving text messages this morning?

Thanks, Morry!

Wouldn’t know, rarely use text. IM is where it’s at.

I had issues yesterday, at work everyone got an amber alert via SMS and several min later it came through for me so there was a long delay, seems to be ok now.

Not working here in Boston at least an hour ago. Was expecting a login code from an sms…

  • Krystal

Yep. My husband got my texts, but I didn’t get any of his. Glad to know it wasn’t just us!

    • Zacamandapio

      Where were you Krystal?

      • Krystal

Sorry forgot to mention, Boise Idaho!

  • Dr G

Yep….problems with texting images since last night. Phoenix, Arizona

This is exactly why I try to convince everybody to use Facebook messenger instead of SMS to “text” me. Much more reliable and you know when the other person’s device received the message and if they saw it.

I suppose people with iPhones using iMessage are immune to SMS issues anyway. Me being an Android person, no iMessage for me.

iMessage has its own issues. WhatsApp is a much better solution for messaging which doesn’t require you to sign up for a social network.

      • SurvivingSunnyvale

        WhatsApp is owned by Facebook.

You can chose to sign your life away to Facebook, don’t don’t expect others to.

I know, it’s just ‘allegedly’ kept separate.

No problems here, south texas, I’ve been sending and receiving messages with no problems.

All good here — Las Vegas

I’m in Minneapolis, MN and was impacted. Working fine now.

I was affected in Miami, I thought my GF was mad at me and not responding.

    • Josh Schoonover

This outage could ruin lives and relationships lmao

    • Trevnerdio

Hahaha my gf was worried I wasn’t responding either!

    • Acdc1a

Yeah, had the same issue in Palm Beach.

  • steadymobb

No one texts me so all good here

  • Mark Beard

Late to the party but I called tmo and the tech told me they did some updates to the spam filter that caused the issues in the morning …. thanks tmobile for testing before deploying

    • Walter Pavlik II

They probably did test, but as someone who has worked on large scale software deployments, sometimes the difference between test and prod sizes will be part of the problem.
