Hurricane Irene T-Mobile Service Update

T-Mobile provided a quick update to their service restoration efforts letting all of their customers know that they are working hard to keep the network up and running for all the areas affected by Hurricane Irene. As of 1pm Pacific Time they were running at 85% operational service and we imagine they’ve already increased that number since the press release was issued.

How did T-Mobile service work for you during Hurricane Irene?

T-Mobile USA, Inc. today issued an update on its efforts to restore its wireless network in North Carolina, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions affected by Hurricane Irene.

Following is updated information from T-Mobile as of August 28 at 2:00 p.m. EDT:

  • T-Mobile’s Disaster Response Team has been deployed to areas first hit by Hurricane Irene throughout Virginia and North Carolina to conduct onsite recovery efforts. The team is deploying dozens of generators to restore service to cell sites that lost commercial power.
  • On average, 85 percent of T-Mobile wireless coverage is operational throughout the Northeast.
  • More than 97 percent of T-Mobile’s cell sites in North Carolina are now operational.
  • Virginia and the Washington D.C. markets are experiencing the highest impact due to widespread commercial power outages affecting millions of people.  T-Mobile crews are visiting sites and bringing in additional generators to the hardest hit areas. I believe you can still call 911 even with no service

I agree, T-Mobile told me they are an in-bound call center and there is noting they can do to follow up with a technician or do anything about the service. I live in New Jersey and use the phone for business, been without service for over 6 days. These people are the worst and the supervisor (J) hung up on me.

Browns Mills NJ.. no service as of 5:30PM Sunday Aug. 29 when the power went off. Still not getting service at home. I get service a mile east and about 8 miles to the west (in car) but none at home. So.. no power, no house phone and no cell phone at home. Just great.

I guess you must have verizon or sprint. I have not had cell service in 3 days now, you obviously don’t need to call your family to see if they need anything huh?

I didn’t lose service till the hurricane was over, funny the verizon tower is next to the tmobile tower and they all have service???

Southeast CT, 1 to 2 bars max, spotty at best, keeps giving me ‘no network’ data is maxed at 2g if even that. Had to go to McDonalds for Wifi. 2 days in, we’ll see how long it takes. didn’t realize my phone and electricity dependency till this freaking hurricane.

I thought i was the only one but I guess not.  I get full service in my house but if I step out I get almost no data services and at best 2 bars.  When I drive by an area that was hit hard or still have no power I loose everything.  I’m in Fairfield CT.  I have T-mobile.  My friend has Verizon and she was fine.  During the storm I was fine.  It started monday morning.

Service in my area is still out. I called up T-Mobile yesterday and I was told that five towers in my area were down and my G2 was trying to pick up a signal on a distant tower. They wouldn’t give me a time frame, but they did call me this morning to follow up but I told them still no data connection and intermittent voice signal. Neighbor has att and is still down as of this morning.

I have had no service in NJ at my home in West Milford NJ and at my office in Towaco, NJ…works in between.  Of course TMobile can’t give me ANY information, and I don’t even see NJ listed here.  Anyone have any clue what they’re doing out there?  Funny, Verizon isn’t having ANY issues in this area…..

  • Rahewitt1

I have had no service – no network messages – so I found T-Mobile useless

  • Jinxedagain

My service was working perfectly but for some reason on Thursday I stopped receiving emails and had no internet connectivity. Text and phone service works fine. Anyone else seeing this?

We have had no service on all five lines on my plan at home, surrounding areas and work for a week and a half now.  Since I work from home, I cannot use my phone all day unless I get in my car and drive.  T mobile is blaming it on the utility company in my area and says they must not have restored full power to the towers in my area, but everyone in my town has power.  They have no idea when it will be fixed.  They are not honoring early termination due to our service not working properly and will not give me a good faith estimate of how long I’m supposed to wait without service until they will let me out of my contract.  They also cannot send me a copy of my contract and have said I need to go back to the store I made the purchase from and get it from them.  They are 40 minutes away.  They gave me information to contact customer relations, but there is no telephone number, only an address to send a letter to, with a response in 7 to 10 days.  They customer service people just read off a script and have no real answers.
