Sprint Attacks T-Mobile On Twitter, Forgets How To Fact Check

A few hours ago a Sprint corporate communications manager decided to stir the pot by declaring Sprint the only “true” 4G carrier by using a little math. You can see her version of mathematics above and while she definitely used you know, numbers she obviously skipped the day they handed out the ability to fact check. Claiming that the ITU and their decision to declare “evolved” 3G services like HSPA+ and Sprint’s very own Wimax on the same day she goes on to say that the ITU is just one “perspective.” Is she serious? Did someone spike the eggnog at the Sprint holiday party? This is a joke. By her own logic, my perspective is that the world should have just one carrier, T-Mobile and that the skies and the oceans should be a nice shade of Magenta. However, that’s just my perspective and it’s certainly far different than what the facts are.

With her title as Sprint corporate communications she shouldn’t have so easily shrugged off an international body’s decision. We’re T-Mobile cheerleaders around here so it’s obvious in matters such as these we’re going to defend the T-Mobile position; but the ITU is a bi-partisan group and their decision is taken as more than just “perspective.”

So here we go Stephanie, I’m going to do a little math for you:

The Facts: 1, Sprint: 0

I got a super charger on my v6.

    I don’t call it a v8 though… screw the ITU.

    • me

in the end the number or name doesn’t matter, just the speed. To keep your analogy going – I know plenty of turbo v4s faster than v8s.

Anyway on my non-4g phone (HD7) I average around 3.5 Mbps down in my area. That’s faster than my home internet at my old apartment (3 Mbps on att uverse). Good enough for me.

      That is entirely different.

Guys, This is a classic example of what I call DENIAL on Sprint’s part. I hope they stay in DENIAL …it’ll be T-Mobile’s advantage they do, while we produce competitive facts to clients and prospective clients.

    # of T-Mo 4g phones: 3 — I pulled 7.4megs down in my area for the highest. I average 4.5megs down. This sprint lady is obviously stuck in summer of 2010 when there was only the EVO. She needs to wake up.

there are only 2 4g phones right now.. the G2 and the Mytouch 4G. you can get up to 7.2 on most 3g phones.. 4g goes up to 14.4 on the phones and 21 on the aircards.

Talk about speed to burn…it makes sense why clearwire’s digging T-Mizzle….I mean really, would you want to team up with a carrier that boasts “a true ’4G’ network”, yet being unable to keep handsets from roaming in living rooms…like them boys on ESPN NFL live would say, “C’MON MAN!”

I live in suburb of Boston and my speeds from T-Mobile are lightning fast. My DL speeds are between 3.5 and peeking over 7.8 MB. My upload speed is a constant 1.4 MB. That is during the peek hours of the day, not too shabby. Sprint in my area isn’t even close to that. To top it off, you have to pay sprint an extra 10 bucks a month if you even own a 4 G phone no matter if you live in a 4G area or not. Great pay 10 bucks even if you don’t get 4G. No thanks Sprint.
THANK YOU T-MOBILE fastest network period.

i know a lot of people will hate me because of this but i can’t help it….

  • bjhoppy

It’s all marketing bs anyway. As long as you like your phone, your speeds are fast enough to load what you use your phone for and your carrier works good in your area, and they all differ, who cares what is 4G and what isn’t. Or who has 4G and who doesn’t.

  • http://twitter.com/iGNetworks IGNetworks

I let her know the facts. Check out my twitter.

  • Leonelacuna

well isn’t t-mobiles network an advanced 3g technology not a true 4g technology and they say they’re 4g because of the high speed on the network? so i see Sprints point.

    • 4G_or_not_4G

Leonelacuna…they all are lying, none of the carriers have true 4G. Verizon will be the closest to it. However having it and being allowed to use it maybe two different things. Look at Sprint charging everyone with a “so called 4G phone” an extra $10 per month, but at the same time, not delivering 4G in their market??? Not to mention, Sprint’s so called 4G network is currently not running as fast as T-Mo’s supposed 4G network.

      • remixfa

the ITU has just reclassified 4G so that current Wimax, LTE and even HSPA+ fit the new 4g standard. they are ALL 4g. The original 100mb standard for 4g is now going by “advanced 4g” or something like that.

As of right now Tmobile has americas largest and fastest 4g service with phones. And unlike sprint, we dont charge 10 bux just for having a 4g phone… which is especially retarded since most of sprints network isnt 4g but u get charged regardless if ur not in a 4g area.

  • Anonymous

Poor bitch can’t even afford a bottle of root touchup on the scraps Sprint pays her sorry ass.

  • http://www.symbiosis60.com Maciek

It’s really sad to see what’s happening currently in the (US) wireless world. Outside of the US everyone knows the drill…here they try to sell us BS. Thank goodness we know what’s what and like what we like….here’s some history… (corrections welcomed if I mixed some stuff up… I’ve been using cell phones for too long and my brain may be fried by now).

1G – There was no data at all… voice and text only.
    2G – CSD – which was basically a dial up (9.6kbps)
2.5G – GPRS – Wikipedia info: GPRS provides data rates of 56-114 kbit/second
2.75G – EGPRS (or EDGE) evolved form GPRS and HSCSD which evolved from CSD and allowed for higher speeds
3G – UMTS – this was the first true change as the networks changed to WCDMA modulation from GSM’s TDMA protocol. This allowed for speeds up to 384kbps (in lab but in real life, the results were a different story)
3.5G – HSPA (still all based on WCDMA standard)
3.75G – HSPA+ (and whatever speeds it currently provides)
3.9G << Here I guess we'll have to eventually squeeze in LTHSPA which will kick everyone's ass and will be faster than the current 4G. (Here I'd dare to say that it would be on the same "time line" as 4G (LTE vs LTHSPA)
4G – LTE and WiMax which as far as I know was never planned as a "telephone" standard – it was supposed to be for mobile devices (ones with a lot of juice)…basically a citywide WiFi

So how is it that suddenly ITU or networks decide to sell this BS. While I LOVE T-Mobile (I am proud to say I have been with them literally since day 1 they launched in Chicago) I am pissed that they market themselves as 4G. There are better ways to sell the product…for example advertise "Acronyms don't matter…real life results do" And instead of Catherine's look-alike (younger) show real life speeds. While I also like VZV's switch to LTE, all they have now is just USB sticks and there's no official word on standard for voice over LTE so for the time being their phones will probably have a dual modules (CDMA for voice traffic and LTE for the data portion) unless the World will come to a sudden peace and everyone will agree on 1 standard for voice over LTE (http://urgentcomm.com/networks_and_systems/news/voice-lte-moves-forward/ )

    • Ali

4g means 4th generation. So, LTE, WiMax & HSPA+ would have to be the next generation of data.

If you’re going by the intial ruling, then it’s 100 mbps which none of the current generations are going to attain. However, if you’re setting WiMax as the standard, then HSPA+, HSPA++, LTE, LTE-A are all 4g with LTHSPA’s hypothetical speeds probably pointing tot he 5th generation.

If we’re to be completely unbias, we use what the ITU rules as “3g” or “4g” No matter what you label it as, we as consumers are looking for coverage, price & data speeds. Right now, Verizon is king of one and T-Mobile king of the other 2.

      Period.

    • http://twitter.com/iGNetworks IGNetworks

Ill add my own w/ corrections:

      1G – TDMA/AMPS
      2G – GSM (Voice w/ 14.4Kbps Data)
      2.5G – GPRS 48K
      2.75G – EDGE 70K, 128K
      3G – UMTS (Voice w/ 384Kbps Data)
      3.25G – WCDMA(Data switch 1.8(HSDPA/HSUPA 3.6)
      3.5G – HSPA 7.2, 14.4(HSUPA 2.0/5.76)
      3.75G – HSPA+ 21, 42, 84, 168(HSUPA 5.76, 11.52 & 23)
      4G – LTE 70, 144, 288 & Progress/A 1Gbps Down/100Mbps Down Fixed, LTHE 336/672 Down/70 Up(LTE/HSPA combined stream-able) Wi-MAX 70, 144, 288/2 1Gbps Down/100Mbps Down Fixed

UPDATE: Within the last 3 months there was a circuit switch mentioned for LTE & shown in diagrams. I have shown it off on the forums. Also LTHE is a 4G network. There are no longer 3.9G networks as of now.
All I can say for HSDPA/HSUPA being a WCDMA standard is that its part of it because its a successor to it but I cant necessary say they are the exact same. I guess they have to be to be a successor for it to connect I guess.

      • blah

Thank you guys for being beacons of information in this madness…. I wish I could double like your posts. The reason current interations of HSPA+ do not meet the specifcations is because they do not meet the real 4G requirements of MIMO and all IP-based communication. LTHE does which is why this variant of HSPA is considered 4G. Because the BASELINE of that standard meets the minimum requirements. HSPA+ is a 3G technology on which 4G functionality was ADDED. Also could you please point us to a link of the diagrams? i want to print them out and hang them over my bed.

        • http://twitter.com/iGNetworks IGNetworks

Yup thats true. Also how much spectrum is required for the 672Mbps, only 40MHz while LTE-A requires 100MHz for 1Gbps. Now thats a waste of spectrum.

  • Bimmerz

*smh* Oh Miss. Svinge, please put down that bleach bottle, and stop sniffing it – don’t you realize, that you’re one of the reasons blonde jokes exist? *rolls eyes*

How about this math? The extra dollars you’ll be charged to use your 4G phones for Sprint: $10. The extra dollars you’ll be charged to use your 4G phones and enhance your 3G phones on T-Mobile’s network: $0.

    • Steb0ne

Yeah…but it’s STILL cheaper than a comparable plan on T-Mobile

I honestly think this lady is a customer service rep that tagged herself as corporate, knows nothing at all about her, or any of her competitor’s products, and will probably be fired soon. That having been said, everyone on here used to say it was just “4G” due to the ITU’s ruling, now they say that they were overshooting todays capacity for an operational system, and everyone wants to ignore it. If the ITU is the governing body, and they say any evolved 3g tech, then that is definitely covering hspa+ it is a more evolved version of previously available 3g technology.

She yet to mention sprint’s 4G speeds, T-Mobile’s 2 4G phones, & the $10 extra for Sprint’s 4G network/speed that may still not even be comparable to the $0′s u have to pay for T-Mobile’s. She’s riding the #failwave. Why would u did yourself in a even bigger hole when Sprint is basically @ the bottom of the totem pole. You better work on that $10 fee, network speeds, & the billions of other phones you have been putting out that can’t even capitalize on the WiMax network

Ok now my version of what she said:
A little data speed math for how many devices carriers have that get an average of 5mbps: # of T-mobile devices:20+ (oh wait we have the most advanced 3G & 4G network already) # of VZW devices:. # of Sprint devices: 2.

Damn the truth sucks, my Nexus S was getting faster speeds then two of my friend’s EVOs and I was a 2G and they were on 3G! At home I hardly ever go under 5.5mbps on my Nexus S and Nexus One.

  • Mase 87

    She’s using a Blackberry LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • MIKED00734

Sprint ? ,Yea right , I would rather use a stone age phone ,then be on their network !! T -Mobile has the most advanced network and phones of all carriers , so Sprint ,before you sling mud , I suggest you fire your corporate communications manager and just stick with trying to improve your network! YEA RIGHT!!! HAHA !!

    • Htc06

T-mobile Sucks. They’re number “4″ for a reason. Small coverage, whack phones, and no “true” new technology. Just pushing 3G as far as it can go and calling it 4G. HSPA+ is faster than WiMax, but those speeds does you no good if you have bad coverage. T-Mobile needs to step up their coverage, improve their own netword (not just the data part), and try to score some more attractive phones then just the Big 3 Carriers leftovers. Good try though. Wake me up when T-mobile becomes a REAL competitor.

  • melaniehottielol

well yea t-mobile may be faster and all but its nationwide coverage is nothing compared to sprint i have t-mobile my boyfriend has sprint yea my mytouch 4g is faster than his evo over here in La but once u hop on the i 10 and go out of the city guess what??? My mytouch 4g drops down to gprs or gsm not even edge while my boyfriend doesnt hav 4g but he still gets 3g and its faster than my phone then half of the time my phone is searching and i get no service while him on sprint has service and is able to talk and send messages without a problem and its frustating that i have to borrow his phone cuz t-mobile doesnt have signal outside the city in the rural parts of town

    • Matlock!

Sprint is actually roaming off of Verizon! In my area I checked out Sprints coverage and their actual coverage was quite minuscule. The rest of their coverage was them roaming off of Verizon! Sprint themselves has absolute crap for spectrum! If you have coverage issues let T-Mobile know they will investigate and work at resolving the coverage issues, but you actually have to let them know, not just complain on the internet.

    • Evo

no way sprint has better coverage, because they are in roaming as soon as you leave LA.

    • Evo

no way sprint has better coverage, because they are in roaming as soon as you leave LA.

    • uDummy

As always: People need to subscribe to what fits their need. Travel a lot? Rural areas? Stick to At&t and VZW. To be on Tmobile then complain you don’t get a signal out in the middle of podunk nowhere… oh well. It happens to me on occasion… but it what I expect from Tmobile, so no complaints here. If it bugged me that much, I’d switch to At&t then. Simple.

too many people bitch about crap they can correct themselves. 9 times out of 10 when someone says “well, I have no choice”… that’s YOUR problem, not any of the carriers. Figure it out.
