Having already previewed the Dash 2.0 there isn’t really much to report for us on the cosmetic refresh that is the follow up to the popular Dash “1.0″ However, for those who might have missed last weeks report yet caught Boy Genius yesterday, the device is beginning to show up in retail stores. Like ourselves, Boy Genius was at first hopeful for a real device upgrade rather than a pretty color update, WM 6.1 and other small bug fixes. Nothing really exciting to speak of, so move along. 

The picture pretty much speaks for itself, but as you can see the base color is a sexy looking black with a “TmoNews blue” accented keyboard. (Trademark pending so watch out!) As for everything on the inside, don’t expect a whole lot more than what the original Dash had to offer.

So what has Google been doing all this time since releasing Android?? Why making cupcakes of course! As seen on the Android Roadmap website, Google has come out of hiding and is offering up more information regarding the upcoming update to the Android OS. Curiously dubbed “cupcake,” there are some notable entries sure to make everyone take notice. Look for copy and paste within an updated browser, saving files sent via MMS, a HUGE e-mail overhaul that will allow it to actually be functional (fingers crossed on this one), video recording capabilities, and A2DP Bluetooth support. That’s right! It’s time to dust off that old set of Bluetooth headphones!

            It is important to note that the updates are only in the development stage right now and will be unloaded on the awaiting public when the oven timer goes off.  If all goes well, expect to have this update drop sometime in January although the developers have noted a possible slowdown due to the United States holiday season. 

However, Android users are still awaiting more information as to the frosting of this cupcake, as no new information has surfaced regarding the future of Flash support or the ability to save applications to the memory card, which seem to be what most of the public’s mouth is watering for. But for the time being, it is nice to see Google putting in the muscle and bringing new features sooner rather than later. You hear that Apple, copy and paste…

So you’ve got that new Samsung Behold, and while it’s a pretty cool phone it does leave a few things to be desired – but what doesn’t, right?  You’ve enable full HTML browsing, but you still have a couple of nits to pick with the device.  Perhaps you think that the ringers or alerts are just not loud enough?  Well, thanks to some excellent detective work from forum member spinn360 we have a possible solution to that problem for you!  Spinn360 provides us with a nice little overview of the test mode settings for configuring some new volume levels for your new phone.  Make sure you read through that and understand what you’re doing before making those changes though.

Thanks also go out to forum member inebriat3d for showing us how to get Google Maps on your Behold!  So now you can find your way around when you go out on the town and don’t want to get lost, or need to find some cool new place to try out.  It’s not too difficult to do, but it does present a few hoops to jump through, so once again, please make sure you read and understand what you’re doing before making any changes!  Well, now you’ve got a decent browser, you can hear those ringtones and find your way around….what about some better gmail?  Forum member fleshdeep has confirmed that by using inebriat3d’s instructions that the GMail App does indeed work on the Behold, and has the screen shots to prove it!  You can try other java apps and see if they work as well.

Which brings us to our last tidbit of the night!  You’ve got some pretty cool java apps on your Behold now, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to minimize one or two of them instead of exiting them out?  Spinn360 is back with another admin setting to do just that!
