T-Mobile partners with KXAS-TV to speed up 600MHz repack in North Texas

T-Mobile has announced that it’s teaming up with NBC’s KXAS-TV to speed up a 600MHz repack, much like it did with Fox’s WWOR in New York City last year.

T-Mo is working with NBC 5/KXAS-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas to more quickly repack the stations 600MHz spectrum in North Texas and surrounding areas. With this partnership, KXAS-TV will move to its new frequency in late May 2018, well ahead of the FCC’s June 21, 2019 deadline.

In addition to helping the station move to its new frequency more quickly, this agreement means that T-Mobile can more quickly utilize the 600MHz spectrum to enhance its 4G LTE coverage and capacity in the area. The areas that’ll benefit from these 600MHz improvements include Paris, Sulphur Springs, Tyler, Waco, and Wichita Falls in Texas as well as Ardmore and Durant in Oklahoma.

While T-Mo is working hard to begin deploying its 5G coverage this year, that doesn’t mean that it’s done improving its 4G LTE network. This repacking agreement is evidence of that and is great news for customers who plan on sticking with T-Mobile 4G LTE for a while rather than being a 5G early adopter.
