T-Mobile Galaxy S8 and S8+ update rolling out with improvements to Bixby, SD card stability

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners, a new update is now coming your way.

T-Mobile is now pushing a software update to its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The update is said to include improved SD card stability and an update to Bixby. Once the update is installed, the phones will be on the May 1, 2017 security patch level.

If you’ve got a Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8+, you should see this update on your phone shortly. Of course, if you don’t feel like waiting, you can try to grab the update manually by going into Settings > Software update > Download updates manually.

Have you gotten this update on your GS8 or GS8+ yet?

Thanks, Brian, Tyler, and Cory!

      No difference

The differences are under the hood.

I’m not so much waiting for voice assistance as I am waiting for Bixby to start learning what I’m searching for or watching on YouTube, or the samsung browser rather than just giving me general suggestions based on what is trending. I don’t care about who is dating who or what videos the entire world thinks is cool. The reason I like Google Now is because it is tailered to me while Bixby just seems interested in telling me what is trending.

    Does this break button remapping?

    • Richard Frank Hernandez Jr.

No. Tmobile S8 here and I use bxActions in the app store to remap and it still works after update.

    • JetFanInMiami

The first update broke the remapping. Haven’t been able to remap since.

      • Brian Richards

No it didn’t. Remapping works just fine using bx actions, otherwise I wouldn’t be asking.

You changed my life! I just installed it and it works! Lol!

Thanks!! I can confirm it works after this latest update.

The same update is available for the Sprint S8+. I can’t speak to any other device though.

This update seems to have broken Multi-Line Digits. Once my phone updated it said Multi-Line was removed.

    • Eric Harlow

odd i just updated my phone and my multi-line digits is still working

You might have to go and unlock it again on the T-Mobile website. Then reboot your phone.

They need to fix the “fingerprint scanner not responding” issue, is what they need to do…

    • phillyundead

I get that constantly and it’s really pissing me off. First they put the scanner on the back, then they don’t even have it work right. This phone is a beta phone man.

We should do a class action lawsuit they sold use on the gs8 with bixby onboard but nothing months after buying it

I would rather them spend time developing it for the US market before releasing it. If it comes out premature then people who tries it and hates it will be keen to using it again in the future and might take years to take off. See Apple Maps.

I would just be happy if the frigging voice recognition worked as good as Google voice does. Otherwise it is useless.

  • Brian Richards

Even if they do, I would bet that it won’t succeed. It was already too crowded of a playing field, then they launched it half baked which for most average users means they will have written it off and will NEVER look at it again. Add to that the news rolling out about the privacy issues and Samsung devices and I’m pretty sure Bixby is done for.

am i the only person having a problem with Bluetooth and music and YouTube apps pausing randomly ? when i connect my gear s3 to my phone the Bluetooth disconnects on its own very annoying

I just got a 2nd update last night which was small and no restart required. I am surprised it has not been mentioned here on the website, though this site has been kinda lacking lately.
