Google Announces Android 4.4 KitKat, Erects Statue Outside Google HQ

Screen Shot 2013-09-03 at 12.52.08 PMWhoa…today is certainly shaping up to be a very interesting news day as Google unveils Android 4.4 KitKat. Yup, that’s KitKat just like the candy bar and it seems Google won’t have any trademark issues as the company has a promotion in place where you can win Nexus 7 devices or Google Play credits by purchasing specially market Kit Kat candy bars in stores near you.

This story is still developing so I’d keep your eye out for more and Google has yet to mention any Android 4.4 specific features other than to say:

“It’s our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody.”

Android chief Sundar Pichai posted a picture of the now erected statue on Google’s headquarter lawn of the new KitKat Android 4.4 character.

On my return from Asia, I was also thrilled to find this guy waiting to greet me on the front lawn — love the new #AndroidKitKat statue and can’t wait to release the next version of the platform that is as sweet as the candy bar that’s one of our team’s favorites:)

Needless to say, KitKat is coming and soon. With the news that the Nexus 4 is selling out and a possible Nexus 5 announcement next month it certainly sounds like the time is right for Google to bring the next version of Android to the world.

Stay tuned for more details as this exciting story continues to develop.
