Samsung Says Announcements For Jelly Bean Updates Coming “Soon”

Following on HTC’s own comments yesterday surrounding future Jelly Bean updates, Samsung has released their own short statement to the folks at PocketNow:

Samsung will soon announce which additional devices are eligible for the Jelly Bean update. As the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, Samsung leads the Android community with best-in-class devices like the Galaxy S III, and is creating new device categories with products like the Galaxy Note. Samsung has delivered the most Nexus-branded lead OS devices and we are pleased that Google will be bringing Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S customers the first experiences of Jelly Bean on a handheld device.

That’s pretty much right in line with HTC’s comments, and just about all we can expect from any carrier or manufacturer right now on updates, especially considering it’s only been 48 hours since the announcement. We have little doubt that Samsung will work swiftly to bring Jelly Bean to their flagship Galaxy S III handset, it’s everything else in their lineup we hope to see soon. I understand Samsung (and HTC for that matter) not wanting to commit to anything at this point, but I hope to see every device that’s already been chosen for an Ice Cream Sandwich update gets selected for Jelly Bean as well. That’s about the best we can hope for right now.

I want it on my Vbrant

    • lol good luck with that homie

Seriously, it would’ve been nice if the Vibrant ever got Gingerbread.  I refuse to buy a new phone for $300, when mine is only 2 years old and working alright.  Of course, it is a Vibrant so it still has occasional GPS issues.

        • Sanman202

Still have the stock Vibrant but I have the GS2 also, Nexus on the way so JB is coming in two weeks or so. There is a huge difference in performance from the Vibrant with the GS2.

        • Relikk356

CM9 on the Vibrant works pretty well. Do to the lack of RAM if you have alot of programs running sometimes there is a lag, but it crushes stock Vibrant.

    • HeLLo

Yeah that’s not gonna happen officially but through a custom rom maybe.

    • Mardux258t

My wife is on her forth Vibrant :( it keeps messing up. Freezes about once a day and the battery dies in about 4 hours, even on standby. I’ve forbidden her to install any apps in hopes of it working fine but no luck yet.

      • GS3

stock rom on the vibrant is a nightmare.. just use a different kernel, it should be better..

i have miui 2.6.22 and it is gr8, it’s been 3 years now. i don’t like those new big ass phones anyway.

    • Sanman202

Keep in mind, the Vibrant was the first Galaxy device and it had bugs. Just like the first model year of a new car. It has bugs and it gets better with each model year. Time to upgrade from the Vibrant if you want a phone that works better.

As long as it gets here in the next 6 months I would be happy.  Just got my GS3 2 days ago and it’s simply great.  Not going to panic over not having JellyBean for a few months.

    • Abe_The_Babe

Same here, got mine yesterday, I love it.

  • I word “Nexus” !

    • fixxmyhead

uhmm dont think just cuz its a nexus it will get future updates. what happened to the nexus one? the nexus s days are also numbered maybe 2 more updates and thats it.

      • JBLmobileG1

I believe the same… While it may get the updates first it doesn’t mean it will get each and every update. Google has to make money too which is probably why the Nexus line of phones don’t have that WOW factor like the original Nexus One did. It truly was a phone ahead of its time.

        • GS3

except for all of its hardware issues!!!  LOL

      • QwietStorm

Nothing “happened” to the Nexus One, It was ahead of the pack for months, but it’s supremely outdated at this point. Nothing can change that fact.

  • JBLmobileG1

We all know every carrier is now going to post that they will be releasing Jelly Bean to some of their devices…. sad thing is they probably won’t update them until next year or right before or after they release their next flagship device. Heck if they didn’t announce that they’d be releasing some form of Jelly Bean then they would lose sales to competition… and yes…. even Google themselves.

    • KeKyKo

Agreed! Samsung is so full of it.  I still dont have ICS for my SGT10.1Wifi, they say mid July and now Jelly Bean.  REALLY!  How long will Jelly Bean take to get to the SGT10.1Wifi?  Samsung will shit out 5 new hardware devices before one update to any prior device! $600 and Im still on Honeycomb.  And yes I did root but Sammy has not released any drivers so the camera does not work at all and it is about 80% stable.  Sorry I am very annoyed :(  This announcement is soooooooo patronizing!

  • HelloAmaze

I definitely agree that the current devices that have ice cream sandwich should get this update, my Amaze 4G would enjoy a jar of jelly beans

  • Lmrvrgs

What about samsung galaxy s blaze 4g?? We are still stuck on gingerbread despite being told that we would get the ics update. Gimme a break, i miss my iphone. Atleast i knew i would always get an update and not have to wait forever!

    • Joel Fritchman

As it turns out, Gingerbread was much better than ICS for the blaze. I got the ICS update and lost adobe flash support and performance is a little slower.

  • Nemichoco

I just hope I get a taste of Jelly Bean on my GSII running Official ICS. I just updated it June 11th. Hope someone can fill me in if the GSII would get JB 4.1

    • Sanman202

Sorry to say that JB is not coming to the GS2. If you just got ICS and you know how long that took, what would make one think it’s coming soon? Get an unlocked Galaxy Nexus and you have Jellybean. Yes, it will cost you $350 but that’s how it goes.

      • Nehemias Rodriguez

I don’t understand why? If the GSII is much more powerful then the GNexus!!!

  • twizatch

When will you people learn??? “Soon” is not news… “Soon” is an 6-7 month promise that keeps getting extended until you reach enough pissed off customers that you have no choice but to force the carriers (cough:: Verizon ::cough) into releasing YOUR product.

    That’s what “soon” is…

  • Interesting

  • Jblade

lol. That’s why i bought a nexus s in december 2010. and i just bought a galaxy nexus for $349 (a steal for a pentaband 3g unlocked phone). Now i have TWO phones that will BOTH be updated to the latest and greatest, no drama, no vague “soon” comments about what models are “eligible”. They all should be if an 18 month old phone is getting it.

  • MarcusDW

I expect JB AND the new touchwiz on my GS2 and Samsung is full of $#!@ if they say it can’t handle it.

  • cosmo10292

haha i got my galaxy nexus three days ago and its first day it was rooted and flashed with jelly bean :DD

  • Nehemias Rodriguez

I hope the Galaxy S II Gets Jelly Bean Soon. Even tho I’ve only been on ICS for about a month now. Lol

  • dcw

Just updated my galaxy nexus to JB! Pretty similar to ICS of course but I like it, very smooth. Butta.

  • Jeebus

This article is nearly a year old and I’m *still* waiting for Samsung to put out Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S Blaze.
