The Sidekick 4G Will Be Manufactured By……………Samsung!

Update: Taylor over at Androidandme and I were just chatting and it sounds like we’ve both received the same intel, albeit from separate sources. Sounds like double confirmation!

So while we’ve got nothing else to report on the Sidekick 4G, we’ve been able to confirm that Samsung will be the manufacturer. I know what you are thinking, this is a Sharp product. Well, not anymore and seeing as how T-Mobile owns the “Sidekick” name they can pretty much allow anyone to use and make a product under that moniker. In this instance, Samsung seems to have won the ability to bring the iconic Sidekick brand into the Android age.

I know what you are all thinking right now as eyes roll and anger starts to boil as Samsung isn’t exactly the most popular kid on the block right now. Still, T-Mobile has made it clear that future Android updates are a top priority so now lets jump to any fanatical conclusions right now about what may or may not be regarding this device.

That’s all, more details as they arrive!

They better not try to re-create the old Sidekick UI on this thing…. I’ll make sure never to sell one.

LOL haha maybe motorola can compete with Samsungs but better? hardware quality? ahahaha thats a laugh especially when you put HTC in there as well just go look at the many articles regarding issues with that device.

Got a friend of mine that rides hard for Samsung…he’s not one of the “Where’s My Update” crowd as he does the ish himself via rooting but he’ll deter anyone from buying any other phone if one of the options on the table is a Vibrant

Just broke the deal for me. Samsung = No Buy for me. Won’t be getting this one. I was excited about this until this heartbreaking news. Anybody that thinks that Samsung will change their ways with this device, are setting themselves up to be one of the “Where’s My Update” fanboys that Samsung seems to have sooo many of. Back to the Drawing board, again. Tmo US just can’t seem to give me a 4.3 smartphone that’s not Windows based. :(

So far not impressed that it was going to be Samsung either. Plus from the pics etc. (in related articles) no flash for the rear camera.

It’s a double confirmation, all the way! What does it mean! OH! It’s beginning to look like a triple confirmation!

I will not support samsung. They must show they deserve attention.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jamille-Browne/1184321457 Jamille Browne

Nexus S does just fine in that regard and what truly was wrong with Samsungs products beside maybe a faulty gps that EVERYONE had the chance to exchange under warranty by tmobile AND Samsung. Complaining about no updates is just childish, you buy a phone as it is. Cell phones are and always will be AS IS sales.

S amoled screen anyone? fk samsung but i must admit, other then the lack of updates my vibrant is the best phone i’ve ever owned. So this side kick may hand with the big dogs.

Samsung have the courage to produce colored and weight phone that let me think it’s a hardware creator, not a giant in mobile industry like apple.

    Samsung is crap. Pass.

SMH, was really hopin it was HTC manufacturin the phone. All I know is this Android better not be in the same category as the other Android devices for update purposes. With this bein a custom UI, it’ll take forever to get an update just like the Androids w/ skins

the only phone i’ll buy from Samsung is the Nexus S cause it doesn’t belongs to them….it belongs to Google, so Google is in charge of everything specially the UPDATES!!!!

This is bullsh$$, i hate samsung. they cant keep a promise to save there lives. well i wont be buying this.

  • EADizzle

Sharp, Samsung, what does it matter? Going as far back as the Slide, weren’t those Motorola? Seems like they’ll let anyone have a crack at the Sidekick line, probably just the lowest bidder. As long as it’s not a cloud device…

    ***One in a million.***So you’re saying there’s a chance!!***

  • Tyrone M Jackson

Every Samsung phone I’ve tried has had to be returned because their Bluetooth implementation was not standard enough to function with my cars. When you go to phone-car compatibility sites like Edmonds, the Samsung phones are notable by how many cars they are incompatible with.

  • Wilco

It’s a juvenile format, anyway. But Samsung is almost really good. If the Vibrant just had a little less lag, if the GPS worked, and if they pushed an OTA update within 3 months of a software release, they would be heros.

as a current and continued user of the sidekick lx-09 (yeah im the only person who wasen’t bitten by the infamous sk-crashing of 09 for some reason, never lost contacts only got them doubled on my device, lost data for a wile but i worked for apple in a call center during it so i didn’t get much time to use my data during the day anyway. i’m absolutely EXCITED for an android sidekick i don’t care who makes it as long as its as durable as my lx09 (ill post pics to imgur if anyone wants to see how beat-up my phone is but still works) 5-row keyboard~ for teh win! on screen keyboards suck. launch date tmo please launch it soon~!!!

  • Nclax15

What’s up with Tmobiles all out commitment with Samsung all of the sudden. I bought the Vibrant because it was literally my only alternative to a device that will keep up with the others until my contract is up… Let me guess, they are also going to provide the only 4.3+inch phones to Tmobile, before they rename t-mobile s-mobile
