• Jay

People need to stop bitching about this phone. This is the best its gonna get for t-mobile so stfu or go to a different carrier.

  • henry

so tmo will b getting the Samsung Vibrant!! haha it took me a lil bit on wut the pics was trying to say but i got it… now that i took my the mytouch slide back will i b getting this phone?!

  • Mexicano

So when is this phone coming out again? the good thing about t-mobile is that even if don’t qualify for an upgrade I can always get it in payments.

  • TranquilNight

Please T-Mobile, surprise us with flash, FFC, or other goodies. Regardless, this phone is really amazing. Just look at the reviews.

    • chotpy

we already got FCC… check related posts.

  • Stillwaiting

So we’re now less than 4 days away from learning about this device. I notice that the samsung event is in the evening on June 29th, and the countdown ends before this, so hopefully we’ll have specs at that time for this device, and then real comment can begin on the device.

I’m glad people have talked me out of really wanting a camera flash on this phone, if it has it, great, but if not, it’s okay.

The front facing camera, if it’s not there, would be a real bummer, but the alternative is jumping to Sprint or Iphone 4, and that’s not something I’m going to do.

Wake me up in 3 days

    • TranquilNight

The countdown is counting down until the countdown, that counts down to the Samsung event, starts.

  • Phenomenon

    Most discussed post ever… WOOT!

  • TMoFan

I like that T-Mobile made this into a little game. It breaks away from the mundane same-old phone unveiling. A lot of people are happy to see this smartphone come to T-Mobile; I’m sure it will do very well.

    • badbob001

It’s interesting in comparison: Verizon spends millions on TV ads to introduce their Droid. TMO sends out a few tweets and puts up a web page for the Vibrant.

I think I’ve read that the Droid is the most used android phone now.

    • Flgirll99

I agree! I liked the puzzle and clues. It was easy to figure out but I like that T-mobile at least tried to doing something more creative before announcing their new phone.

    • hmm

It may be good for T-mo but it won’t be a big number bringer. Why? Marketing. What do you see on TV? Droid, Apple’s, etc. You hear about T-mo somewhat with their rate plans for families. Yes, those families are the money makers, but if dad or mom wants an iphone why come to t-mo for a phone that is not an iphone? Again, it could be the most technically advanced and user friendly phone out there, but if t-mo doesn’t market it no one will come. THis t-mobile clue thing? It’s not going to do it…

  • http://www.twitter.com/the_real_newman @the_real_newman

is it the most discussed now, i thought it was 10 more comments lol, well i guess 8.

So im glad I dont need to drop the coins on this piece since I talked one of my buddies into buying it so I can play with it! I’m not getting rid of my Creamy Nexi for anything yet! Not til some Dual Cores come out at least.

PS FRF83 is ALIVEEEEEEEEEEE!!! 2.2 for all soon! Nexis’ First of course ;-)

    • Phenomenon

      I took a guess :-X Maybe I jumped the gun :(

    • 2FR35H

      @the_real_newman

sure thats the beta version but recent word is that htc desire and another htc thats not nexus one is going to be receiving the official android 2.2 first.

  • Justin

    MOST DISCUSSED POST!!!!! :)

    • TranquilNight

      See, T-Mobile’s buzz generator works.

  • TMOprophet

Fail….SGS doesn’t have anything on the evo or droid x…..in fact it looks like a giant IPhone…..no thanks

    • 2FR35H

      @TMOprophet

oh so the evo 4g has faster network speeds? nope. Super Amoled screen? oh no again. 16gb of internal storage? no. How about wifi tethering? no. Faster processor without root? no.

In fact those above are what SGS has on Evo 4G.

You may or may not be right in regards to droid X I haven’t seen the specs yet.

      • Ace

the galaxy s surpasses them all the only thing that it is short handed in is xda support

      • 2FR35H

        @Ace

Not really anymore. Galaxy S has just gotten root over at XDA.

      • Ace

Oh in that case it surpasses them all best screen and most likely best camera and already proven best processor

      • Woofdah

It doesn’t have HDMI out like the EVO and New Droid. However, I have a Samsung TV that is DLNA compliant so if it read the reviews correctly I will be able to stream my Avatar movie directly to my TV?

T-Mobile will also probably disable the tethering.

      • pimpstrong

TMO will more than likely keep tethering since its already free right now. I tether all the time with my TMO TP2. To make things better, Customer Care informed me that they will NOT be charging extra for the Faster 3G speeds Soooo yeah they are just giving Data away unlike the big 3.

      • Jabombardier

The droid X specs are similar to the evo 4G

      • lev

3g is faster here in Boca Raton on my evo then the mytouch slide, maybe its faster in other places, but Sprints 3g on evo is lighting fast, compared to the slides 3g

  • Dick Richards

Maybe T-Mobile planted the defect on purpose to get the buzz going. Are they really that incompetent? It didn’t take much time to get those buttons to pop up.

  • Anthony in Utah

I want the iPhone 4! My roommates already pre-ordered theirs and I am so jealous. I’m using an unlocked 3G 8gb haha i feel old skool. I wish tmobile would have gotten their hands in the cookie jar and pick up the iPhone 4 alongside with AT&T, but I guess that would be asking far too much from tmobile. I either want to switch carriers for the iPhone 4 or see how jailbreaking and unlocking goes for it and use it on tmobiles edge network hahahaha sooo not cool, but if that’s what it takes to have a hawt phone I’ll do just about anything *winks* ;)

  • clocinnorcal

So did tmo lose the front facing camera? That is very disappointing if true. Can anyone confirm if it does or does not?

  • Esh

well, from looking here. I don’t notice any front facing lens there.

    http://www.cellphonesignal.com/exclusive-we-introduce-you-the-new-samsung-vibrant-galaxy-s-for-t-mobile-usa/

    • 2FR35H

      I don’t trust those pictures.

      • Ace

I trust the source just not the renders i bet it will have a front facing camera and a led flash and qik

      • 2FR35H

        @Ace
Ok now that would just be a dream if it had LED Flash with the included front faced camera.

      • Ace

Yea it would be if I would be the 1st one in line for that

      • pimpstrong

        F!@K yeah me too!

  • bubbles

This is my next device, I think it looks awesome.

  • Broke

Sounds like a nice enough phone. I just trust HTC more. And, I’ve finally gotten tired of having subpar coverage at my work and home or out on the road. 3g and Hspa means nothing to me if I’m not getting it. So, my continued support is on the table. This phone just is convincing enough for me as it stands. I’m needing more from T-mobile right now.

  • joey

I could have sworn that the most discussed topic was when the he played that april fools trick on us about the iphone officially launching on tmobile ! Lol, maybe that was not the most discussed but it was very much the most heated! Lol, more comments on there than discussions
Anywho thanx to tmobile for stepping..it..up..and also to samsung because for years u have been coming out with some crappy free phones for tmobile customers

  • stackz

I THINK I MIGHT GO FOR THE UNLOCKED VERSION WITH THE FLASH AND FRONT CAMERA

    • Ace

The unlocked version has no flash and probably the front facing camera will be on this one so there wouldn’t be a reason to get it unless you want no contract which u still could get through t-mobile so only benefit i see so far for getting the unlocked version that you can get it earlier then the t-mobile version

  • stackz

we can only wait and see what tmobile does with it what do you think the price range od this device will be

    • Ace

probably 199 on a 2yr contract to compete with every1 else phones since thats the price of the Droid X and the Evo 4G but those are with 100 dollar rebate so T-mobile can also do 229 and make no rebate which is also good

    • wcdude18

Is it reasonable to expect/hope for a non-contract price point around $400? I REALLY want to upgrade (using an unlocked 2G iPhone now), but have the EMP plan, so don’t receive any subsidies.

SO hoping this thing comes in around $450 so I don’t have to break the bank to upgrade …

      • pimpstrong

I BET it will be $599 for a while and then the price will plummet by the holidays to $450. mark my words.

  • MM

My guess is it will have a front facing camera and no flash. It was already reported by Samsung that they left the flash out to keep the phone thin. I’m not sure how that would change the thickness, but thats what they said (supposedly). They could very well leave the front facing camera out to save money, since it does appear they may have tweaked the design a little. For me i’ll never use a front facing camera (i’m not that obsessed with taking pics of myself) nor do I believe many people will use the video chat function. Just watching the iP4 video chat showed me how worthless it was. Years down the road it may become a staple, but right it is not. Take the phone for what it is and be glad it’s coming, I know i’m ready.

  • timmyjoe42

Both this phone and the iPhone are bad to the bone. It will come down to:
    Reputation (Apple beats Samsung)
    Market Share (Apple beats Samsung)
Network (T-Mobile might have a slight edge on internet, but not coverage)
Operating System (Apple OS and apps are more stable)
Marketing (Apple and AT+T win again.)

If T-Mobile would concentrate on getting 1 really good phone and pushing it like AT+T does with the iPhone and Verizon did with the Moto Droid, they would be much better off. Sprint only failed with the Palm Pre because of the pitiful app selection, dwindling customer base, and poor network quality.

  • DEE-XT

Can someone plz tell me which one they think is gonna b the best out of nexus one vs. SGS? nexus one owners how much do you luv it?

    • MM

I had the same dilemma and it came down to this for me. Was i willing to pay retail for a phone i couldn’t see or touch in person, what if i had problems, I would have to send it in. If it was sold in a Tmo store 100% chance I would have bought it.

      • DEE-XT

@ MM- i was thinking that, thats why i have been waiting for the nexus one to come to stores (i know hopeful thinking) but im wondering if this phone will just be a BETTER phone!

  • http://tmonews karl

what, all of a sudden is the big deal with the front-facing-camera??? this is a huge martketing ploy that everyone is falling for!! at the moment only iphone users can see one another (using facetime) and sprint to sprint customers. stupid, stupid and stupid! there are so little uses for the fade…at the moment, that i cannot believe that it should be a deal breaker for people buying new phones!! this is a feature that is not ready to take off yet (my opinion), i mean come on, a 1.3 MP f.f.camera….lame, nice video quality.
way too much hype surrounding this. but, as usual, the general population is lapping it up like a dog at their bowls! i guess it could be used as a video mirror on those windy days or before your big date….HA-HA now thats funny!
note:….be happy with what you got, someone, somewhere always has something better, so enjoy yours!!)

    • Green Robot

I had a Nokia Symbian smartphone with front facing camera. I used that camera exactly 0 times in the year that I used that phone. I’m not worried at all about it not being on SGS.

    • Mexicano

I think the reason why people are dissopointed with no ffc is because the original sgs had it and I dont see why t-mobile would remove it. I beleive There is an app called fring where you can make video calls, engadget has a video demonstrating the app on a dell strek and an evo, so no the iphone is not the only one that can do that besides thats been around for years in the uk. The iphone can only make video calls using wifi, thats BS!

      • pimpstrong

Its not BS, is just for now. It will come long before the iP4 is on its death bed. Also yeah the biggest argument about the FFC is the fact that it was taken off of the phone, not that it was NOT addded to it. Of course some people ould still say “man I wish it had a FFC like the EVphone Streak” but if it was never there then most people would just accept it as is. Personally I think its a good convenience that mineswell be there on the phone. I mean why not?

  • stackz

    KARI YOU KNOW YOUR RIGHT

  • bakaruru

    are these timestamps in UTC??

  • ALEX

Will get this until the streak is announced. This is a awesome phone and Tmobile is finally getting it right.

    • Wilma Flintstone

      I may do like you.

  • Negtne

I give props to t-mobile for the cheapest and seem to be working ad campaign in history, but do me a favor, next make it so you can access from your phone your a cell phone company for Christ sake!!!!

  • Negtne

I give props to t-mobile for the cheapest and seem to be working ad campaign in history, but do me a favor, next make make a site like this make it so you can access from your phone your a cell phone company for Christ sake!!!!

  • ALEX

At the same time, this is ridiculous for a phone that is not exclusive to them. What’s make them look sadder is, ata&t is getting the better looking one, yet will cripple the phone, all because they are at the mercy of Satan aka Steve Jobs….

  • Randizzel

IPhone 4? Come on now it’s apple. (iPhone 4 is the best phone out there as long as you don’t touch it!)

    http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/06/23/holding-the-iphone-4-affects-the-antenna-degrades-cellular-signal/

  • bubbles

I think t mobile version looks way better than thr at&t one, this is an awesome device with great specs, cant wait til we can pre order it The only other device i would rather have is the droid x, i think the samsung galaxy and droid x r the best upcoming devices.

  • vinny

Great phone, great job T-Mobile. I like the way T-Mobile puts their own flair on the device. This phone will fly on T-Mobile’s 3+G Network. The I-Phone and AT&T will be crippled with all their traffic. Can you imagine AT&T went and made an app for customers to describe their problems so the customer won’t call customer service. That is how any problems that network is having. T-Mobile is the place to be. I can go to any network I want but I CHOOSE T-MOBILE. This is not the only great phone T-Mobile is bringing in, there will be a couple more by the end of summer. I think the customers will be very happy with the new inventory, I will.
    Thank You T-Mobile

    • Nick

      Nice try, T-mobile.

  • marcus

Forget the iPhone. And t-mobile better have the front facing cam or I’m gone. For those who say its not important or they won’t use it. Ur either lying to ur self or u have no friends. My gf has the iPhone 4 n I was not impressed. I bought a evo and have been trying Sprint out. For me in sac they have 4g I found the test area and I use my front facing camera with Fring everyday for Skype. I have the hd2 for t-mobile and haven’t even turned it on since I got the evo. It’s a amazing phone. Fast. No lag and I love my flash n front facing cam. So Samsung better step it up or I’m staying with the evo

  • DannOfThurs

AT&T is not getting the better looking one – that’s completely subjective. IMO the TMO design is better. Yup, AT&T will cripple the Pro due to Apple competition, but I suspect the Pro will be making its way to other carriers as well.

  • vinny

One other thought, the I-phone is being sold thru T-Mobile in Europe very soon, maybe they will bring it to the USA thru T-Mobile as well. Just a thought.

    • MB

Tmobile in Europe has always sold the iPhone. Only in the great USA it is locked down to a horrible corporation name ATT

    • Jabombardier

No they won’t only after the exclusivity deal with AT&T expires, then it is up for grabs. Game rules are different here than over there where T-Mobile and a few other carriers have the iPhone as an option

  • MarkV10

This may be the phone for me. All this whining about lack of front facing camera is just the latest reason to gripe about T-mo. Seem a week ago it was lack of snapdragon or lack of flash for the camera (or flash for the web). Or lack of a keyboard, or that it has a keyboard (I forget) Next week it will be lack of dialithum crystals or the fact it doesn’t have a black hole. I don’t know which is sadder – that the people that say they are going to switch to another carrier don’t actually go away, or that I keep coming back to read the same tedious comments. I really like T-mo and ain’t switching and my next phone will be an android, either the SGS (which I haven’t seen, of course) or the slide (which I have seen and seems pretty slick – I really like the genius button). cheers

    • Frankfurter

Great comment…totally agree. TMo has been great to me and my business.

  • Ed

I have been tracking this phone for some time and I will be getting for my Birthday hopefully then end of July. From my research having a LED flash for the camera is basically useless for any quality low light pictures albeit better than nothing. I might be somewhat useful for low light close up videos. Unless is was a Xenon flash I really don’t think it will be missed and I will gladly take the trade off having a thinner phone.

Also while I have no plans to ever make a face to face video chat I have read where it might be possible to use a front facing camera to develop some hand gesture controls for games etc. So it would be a nice bonus if Vibrant keeps the FFC.

Other than that how could anyone not be impressed with all the specs and features of this phone?

  • Joe

This is the one thing I hate about Tmobile. Another let down. getting us all hyped up for a Samsung??? I mean seriously? a S A M S U N G? I love T-mobile but its time to come up with something to really match an iphone or the droid. And no the HD2 won’t do it.

    • ItsMichaelNotMike

You love/hate T-Mobile. Sheesh… did you marry T-Mobile and take a vow of for better or worse?

Do yourself a favor: get a better job, make more money and switch to a carrier that has the phones you covet and mistakenly think are better.

  • tmobluv

look at the bright side of things at the pace tmobile is going maybe verizon will buy it and then will get free upgrades because verizon uses cdma and tmobile uses gsm lol who knows but i just read on one of those droid sites not verizon that the cliq and cliq xt might skip 2.1 and go stright to 2.2 i hope sooooo lol i got a cliq.

  • tato22

595 comments that is crazy as long as i been in this site i never seen that lol good job tmonews

  • tato22

i really cant wait to this how far tmobile will take this phone i have the evo now but still have a line on tmobile ones it comes out ill grab it

  • Mike

The phone looks nice but wow did they rip off the iphone os. Any way I like that Tmobile is getting nicer phones.

  • ItsMichaelNotMike

T-Mobile and its faithful/loyal should look at the positive things that are happening notwithstanding the current Apple noise.

Sidenote: Those complaining about T-Mobile not doing more than the amusing clue game should remember that it’s useless to compete with an iPhone launch. Talk about spitting in the wind.

I don’t care if T-Mobile spent $500 million to make people notice the upcoming SGS, no one can compete when even the news media endlessly talk about the product launch, not only for days leading up to the launch and but every half hour for the day of the launch (actually, news coverage started last night showing people forming lines, and today it’s on every news channel ad nauseous).

So instead of finding something to diss in anything T-Mobile does or any handset it has or is coming out with, the intelligent “non-mental-slob” people notice that:

T-Mobile signed up over 100,000 lines in one day (The Fathers Day promo).

The Slide is doing very well (I bought a red Slide.)

My YouTube video that posted Howard’s SGS Tour has over 13,000 views. Since that video has only been up for a little over three weeks, that indicates a lot of interest in the T-Mobile Vibrant.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w1Z9v-Wi38

There’s been a good response to T-Mobile’s Vibrant rumors and the clue game.

There’s overall huge interest in the Samsung Galaxy S, as indicated by anywhere you go on the Net.

T-Mobile is coming out with an HTC “Evo” sized Android phone.

TMoNews is getting linked and cited all over the Net. (That’s a good thing for David, but it also shows interest in what T-Mobile is doing.)

Herr Humm is coming to town!

    Etc., etc., etc.

Bottom line: These are good days for T-Mobile.

Update: It has been reported that the iPhone 4 has a defect!!! HA HA HA HA HA

Specifically, the iPhone 4′s antenna is a piece of metal that frames the case.

People are reporting that when you touch the frame/antenna (e.g., when… er… ah… um… MAKING A FRIGGIN PHONE CALL!) the call gets disconnected!

    HA HA HA HA

  • stackz

im getting nomatter wat tmobile does to it

  • jp2dj1

OK. I’m kind of disappointed but here my strategy. First wait for a cnet review then my review. Second see if the Samsung WILL update the phone or support from the Xda! Lastly wait until Sept. 23, to make my decision, why because to see if I hear anything about the project emerald. If not, I have to jump ship? Or to that phone???????? What your strategy???

  • stackz

its time for a uprade im still using my white gsm hero without 3g its my baby though love tmobile

  • Frankie

I love tmo but come on……would it have killed them to just kept the phone as it was(the original SGS). i know the front facing camera is kind of new but it will be nice to have it….they better make sure this phone takes full advantage of their 4g like speeds and i mean full advantage…..like it being the first HSPA+ phone in the US.that will be a good replacement for the FFC. At least tmo is finally getting a high end phone….they were the first to bring out android 0S but their android phone lineup sucks, and people pls dont say they have MYT3G and MYT3GS cos compared with the competition those phones doesn’t even come close….So i’m happy for at least this one is coming and i’ll be one of the first people to get it. thanx tmo.

  • juan

the phone itself is beautiful, but from what i’ve been seeing, samsung always finds a way to make the ui look corny. it looks like a dumbed down version of the android os that other carriers are equipping their devices with.

am i the only one who thinks this way? i went back to blackberry because the first slew of android devices from t-mo just didn’t cut it for me…as much as i want to convert.

perhaps i’ll change my mind once i get to play with it.

    • TranquilNight

Really? What do you base your opinions on? The reviews say the custom UI in not intrusive at all, and actually adds good features. Here is a video of some of the features of the UI:

  • pimpstrong

Anybody notice that the Cellphone Signal pictures of the “Vibrant” do not show any of the standard T-Mobile apps that should be there?

  • Rick

I just read a pretty good review of the Galaxy S at http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9000_galaxy_s-review-478.php

I’m chomping at the bit to upgrade from my G1 to Vibrant.

    • fujitsujeff

Nice Find Rick. Very Thorough review. 3 days till we see the I959 version ..

    • DEE-XT

so this review says no flash for web broswer!!!!!! CAN do without flash for camera and deft CAN do with out the ffc but no FLASH for web!!! i have the cliq xt n the lite flash version it has is awesome! idk might be a deal breaker for me! :(

      • john

Just downloading skyfire will take care of flashweb
