T-Mobile Goes All Official With The BlackBerry 9700

With Android all the rage these days it’s easy to forget that RIM isn’t going quietly into that good night. With that in mind, RIM officially introduces the Blackberry Bold 9700 to the world, forgetting its leaked more times than a dormitory faucet. Expected to hit our magenta on November 11th, T-Mobile has said it would be on its network “in time for the holiday season.” Slashgear however, is reporting that the phone will cost $199.99 on a 2-year contract but T-Mobile did not confirm pricing. The specs come in pretty well in line with what’s been known for some time now:

  • 3.2 megapixel camera
  • 624 MHz process, 256 mb flash memory
  • UMA support with Wi-Fi
  • GPS
  • Optical Trackpad
  • 6 hour talk time
  • Partridge in a pear tree
  • OS 5.0 (not sure which version of 5.0 is included at this time)

Want to learn more? T-Mobile is getting its website thing on with a dedicated Blackberry 9700 link found here.

    GAAAAHHH…
Cincinnati Bell. I can’t get away from those guys. They are probably killing T-Mobile here. I hope project black fixes that, but then on the other hand I don’t want to see the local underdog go down.

I don’t know if I want to get this or the MyTouch. I played with a MyTouch over the weekend at a T-Mo store and seems really fun to use. Plus I love the new MyTouch commercial with Chevy Chase, Molly Shannon, Dana Carvey and Darrel Hammond.

Why purchase anything from TMO until they announce the Project Dark plans?

  • Kickstar13

    Mhmmm I’m getting this!

  • bigg

So how much is the retail price? 499? not interested in upgrade or new contract pricing

  • NiiDiddy

See, I am all about the phones and not anymore Project Dark like I was. I think phones/smartphones will make or break a company…at the end of the day plans wont matter when all companies across the board start offer more of the same savings, but with different twists!

If I should go back to Blackberry, this would be the phone I will go back to on T-Mo’s network. Its the works, minus touchscreen. I am “clean” after some intensive “rehab” to get myself off the Crackberry, but it’s been almost 2 months with my MyTouch3G only to start “salivating” at this new 9700 Bold 2. I have come to love Android and touchscreen phones in the interim, but the question is: Can I keep “clean” from the Crackberry, or will the power/beauty/sexiness of the 9700 pull me right back in?? We live to see…Lord help me…!!!

Android phones are fun and customizable, but BlackBerry is so darn reliable. Count on RIM to make stable products that deliver on all their promises.

I was trying to break my crackberry addiction. I really wanted to buy the TP2 or the Cliq!Or I thought I could hold out for thr HD2. ” But it be callin me man” (new jack city) I need this phone!

P.S. I compared tmobile’s current price to verizon. I was looking at getting the storm2. It would be an extra $800 over the 2 year contract to switch to have a similar(loyal) plan. Blackberry users on different networks could save a lot of cash by using thier berry on tmobile.

Since this will be running 5.0, is it safe to assume that RIM will be releasing an official 5.0 for other models? I’m always iffy about running a leaked OS. That would make MY holidays.

Stefen, I’m in the same predicament. I currently operate on a Curve 8320 and I have had one of the best experiences with it until recently. I cant stand the face that BlackBerry phones freeze up and has such anemic storage capacity. Even with the new Bold debuting, it will have half the storage capacity of the MyTouch. I love to download apps but it pisses me off when I cant load more than 10 on my phone. I actually use the apps I download, and cant delete the ones I don’t use, I.E. voice dialing, help… But I’m a skeptic when it comes to strictly touch screen phones, but I love full web browsing. I’m one for slim and compact phones and there is no Android phone that combines compact slim designs with touch screen. And the Moto Cliq is not worth the hype. I will wait for the Fender LE to come out just for the 3.5mm jack. I don’t really care about the memory card cuz I don’t listen to music o my phone that often. But regardless of the issues I have with BlackBerry, Im still an addict…as of now. And I plan to keep it arond as a “backup” phone.

@dave Oct 25th is the launch date of project dark. Everything you see here is basically correct. ALL previous plans aside from Unl Loyalty will no longer be… they are grandfathered. Two plans even more and even more plus. Think of even more as a standard post paid plan but only 3 options. Even more plus you can buy a device at full price and finance it over 20 months no contract and only 3 point options as well.

Blackberry is the king of emails and communications. There is no other phone on the market that has a better keyboard than the berry. BBM is a huge selling point as well and it is the most secure device you can own of any cell phone (I wonder why the president owns one, as well as mega corporations like Boeing and even executive officers from companies like Google and Apple use blackberry)
