Alcatel 3V (2019) coming soon to Metro by T-Mobile with 6.7-inch display

Metro by T-Mobile is getting a new Android phone with a massive screen.

The Alcatel 3V (2019) is launching soon at Metro by T-Mobile and it features a 6.7-inch 1440×720 display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Alcatel’s new 3V is focused on entertainment and consuming content, and that big screen will definitely help you do that, along with the phone’s stereo speakers.

Also included with the Alcatel 3V (2019) is a dual rear camera setup with a 16MP main sensor and 5MP depth sensor to help you capture portrait mode photos with a bokeh effect. An AI scene detection will automatically detect and enhance up to 22 different scenes like group pictures and sunsets. And there’s an 8MP front camera for all your selfie needs.

Inside this new Alcatel phone is a 2.0GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6762 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. A 4000mAh battery powers the phone, and Alcatel’s Pump Express+ fast charging tech will get you six hours of battery life in 20 minutes for those times you need some extra juice in a hurry.

Rounding out the 3V’s spec list is a 3.5mm headphone jack, USB-C, Android 9 Pie, a rear fingerprint reader, and support for LTE bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/12/13/20/25/26/41/66/71.

There’s no word yet on exactly when the Alcatel 3V (2019) might launch or how much it’ll cost when it does, but Alcatel is saying that it will be an “affordable” device.

I realize this is a low-end phone, but 720p on a 6.7″ screen just sounds awful. I had to use a J2 for a few weeks a few years ago when my Note 5 was stolen. It had a 5.5″ 720p screen and I remember how bad that was.

Colors will be washed out and you won’t be able to watch it in direct sunlight more than likely. I’ve used more than my share of “budget” screens. It’s just not worth it. My Pixel 3a and Moto Z3 both are budget phones with nice displays.

No one complains about the Switch’s 720p display. And many laptops have even bigger displays with that same resolution.

The Switch is game system that isn’t designed to do other things (looking at pictures, web browsing, etc.) where a sharper display might be important.

Laptops are designed to be looked at from a further distance, same as a TV. That’s why they don’t need to have sharper displays and why that’s not a valid comparison.
