T-Mobile Galaxy S8 Active receiving April security update

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active customers are getting a new software update this weekend.

T-Mobile recently announced a new update for its Galaxy S8 Active. The update began rolling out a few days ago, and TmoNews reader Phil received the update today.

The Galaxy S8 Active’s new update bumps the phone to version G892USQS1BRD5 and weighs in at 116.27MB. The update includes the April 1, 2018 Android security patches as well as some unspecified bug fixes and system improvements.

If you’ve got a T-Mobile Galaxy S8 Active and haven’t yet received this update, you should see the over the air (OTA) update hit your phone in the coming days. You can also manually check for the update by going into Settings > Software update > Download updates manually.

Thanks, Phil!

Where is the LG v30 oreo update?!

Or a security patch newer than January 1, 2018 for that matter…

Meanwhile the V30 is stuck on Android 7.1.2 with the January 1, 2018 security patch. It’s nice to see that at least one of the major manufacturers is getting their act together on updates.

This is more on T-Mo’s end. They spent the month “testing” oreo to get it work on the device, while everyone else got it done with little issues already.

And considering that T-Mobile won’t say anything about what the holdup actually is, it’s probably their decision to have the fastboot commands removed among other things.

Actually, tmobile used to have unlocked bootloader on samsung phones. It wasn’t until the s8 that samsung told them no more. I think one of the big wigs at tmobile mentioned it on twitter.
