T-Mobile LG V30 and LG V20 now receiving security updates

A couple of LG flagships are now receiving software updates.

T-Mobile is now updating its LG V30. TmoNews reader Ben received an update to version H93210d today that included the January 1, 2018 Android security patches. T-Mo’s changelog only mentions a “security update” so it’s unclear what other improvements might be included.

The LG V20 is also receiving an update from T-Mobile. This update is version H91810s also includes the January 1, 2018 Android security patches.

If you’ve got an LG V30 or LG V20, keep an eye out for your phone’s over the air update over the coming days. You can also try manually checking for the update by going into Settings > General > About phone > Update Center > System updates > Check for update or by using the LG Bridge software on your computer.

Thanks, Ben!

I know I have spent at least 3 hours on the phone with several “executive support staff” talking about security updates being 90+ days out of date. One of them went so far as to tell me and I quote ” You must contact Google and LG for security updates and Android updates” I respectfully told them they were full of S***! That even their own support pages don’t say that. ref: https://support.t-mobile.com/community/phones-tablets-devices/software-updates

I told them there’s no excuse for T-Mobile to not push thru security updates from google directly, and that if there is a problem then they need to fire the programmers that are responsible for making their tweaked android to need tweaked updates.

I fully understand that T-Mobile tweaks the android releases, however this “flagship $800” device was shipped with out of date android to start with and the next update will not be the latest but the version that’s over 6 months old already (v8.0). The agent replied quote “it can take up to 7 months for an android release” , my reply was then how come your update page for v8 OREO only has Samsung devices listed as being eligible and not a word about my new phone! LOL he said quote ” LG has not informed us that the LG20 or LG30 will be upgraded to OREO therefore we cant update the support page” I asked so my new 90 day old $800 top of the line flagship wont get an upgrade? Seriously your joking right!!??

Make your voices heard, If you own a LG20 / LG30 contact john.legere@t-mobile.com and voice your concerns regarding security updates and android updates. Maybe if all 5 people that bought this phone (/sarcasm) complain they will work harder.

While I sympathize with you and your cause you are wasting your time. The T-Mobile rep was 100% correct they only release what LG gets them when they get them out. LG is awful at getting updates out…but the good news is that the V30 will get Oreo but it won’t be fully announced like Samsung.

If its only one person your correct, if its hundreds then they might change something.
They did offer to buy the 2 phones back and give me the expired google pixel buy out offer. So if that’s of interest to others email John.
