Apple releases iOS 11.0.2 update with fix for iPhone 8 crackling earpiece issue

Another week, another iOS 11 update.

Apple today released iOS 11.0.2, its third iOS 11 update in as many weeks. This update is now available to download over the air, and you can grab it by going into Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone or iPad.

As for what’s included in this update, Apple says that it fixes an issue where crackling sounds were being heard during calls on a “small number” of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus units. Also included are fixes for an issue where some photos would be come hidden and for an issue where attachments in S/MIME encrypted emails wouldn’t open.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are brand new, and I’m sure that owners afflicted by the crackling issue were frustrated that their brand new phones were having problems during phone calls. The good news is that Apple now has a fix for that issue, so if you’ve got a crackly iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, go grab iOS 11.0.2 right now.

All iOS users can download and install. Meanwhile, I had to pull the sim card and factory reset to get my unlocked Nexus 5X to circumvent carrier certification to download the Oreo OTA.

I now have an issue with using bluetooth in my car. When I summon Siri, it starts off in a whisper tone before gradually getting loud enough to hear him (yeah, I made it a him) through the speakers of the car. Super annoying.

I thank I’ll pass until they correct the battery drain issue. I updated to 11.2 hoping it would fix that but, no still have to charge twice a day before with 10.3 I could go all day+ on my 6s Plus. One thing I hate about Apple is once you update you cannot go back to the previous version, unlike Android! Android rocks!

You can downgrade until they stop signing the older firmware.

Apple is currently signing 10.3.3. Search google for downgrade from iOS 11 to iOS 10 and look for the redmondpie link – it has the full process.

You can also sign up for Apples beta program. 11.1 beta 1 gave me around 1 1/2 hours extra usage time on my 8 Plus versus 11.0.1.

Apple and Android are both great platforms, but the best pure Android is the Google Pixel. In terms of update frequency, the Pixels get a security update each month and latest Android versions immediately. OEMs like Samsung, LG, etc. have to load their custom skins and crapware which delays updates.

Again though, why am I going to pay the same price for half the storage and the same RAM and processor my U11 has though? I gave away my iPad Air so I didn’t have any iOS devices, it made more sense to get the iPhone than to overpay for a Pixel 2 XL. Surprisingly the iPhone became my daily driver.

If Google priced them more reasonably, I would have considered it but as soon as I saw the leaked pricing, I went on Xfinity Mobile and got the By The Gig plan and the 8 Plus.
