Samsung’s Galaxy Note III Rumored To Feature Improved Camera, Possible Optical Zoom

In a move that will shock almost no-one, Samsung is rumored to be testing an improved camera in the Galaxy Note III with optical image stabilization. According the Samsung source who spoke to Korean outlet ETNews, the 13 megapixel camera will allow users to edit their photography with the included S Pen.

Samsung is said to be considering a 3x optical zoom as well, but will likely reject the idea because of the extra thickness it would need. The Samsung source who spoke anonymously to the Korean outlet stated the company is experimenting with various technologies:

We are pondering various technologies at this stage – for example, OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and shutter functions. But, nothing has yet to be confirmed, so we cannot conclusively say that those functions will be added to the Galaxy Note 3.

With both Nokia and HTC including OIS into some of their most recent smartphones, a similar move by Samsung wouldn’t be all that surprising. There is a little skepticism however that they would choose the Galaxy Note III to introduce the feature and not a more camera-centric device like the Galaxy S 4.

Samsung is still expected to introduce the Note II successor at IFA 2013 in September, the same conference they launched the Note II last year.

can’t wait! with optical image stabilization i hope they can finally rival the Lumia line in terms of video recording.

I’d be all over optical zoom. I considered a dumb phone years ago, I think on Magenta, that had a full camera, can’t recall manufacturer. It was too thick tho, but I wouldn’t mind a phone lens with optical.

      Samsumg Memoir?

      • steveb944

Yes! Haha, it was Samsung to boot. Thanks!

      • Josue

I used to have that phone

    • g2a5b0e

A friend of mine had that phone. I had never seen anything like it. Very unique. It was more like a camera that was also a phone rather than the other way around.

The ONLY logical upgrade for Note 2 is Note 3.

    • true, note is note and galaxy S is galaxy S
note 2 crowd cannot “upgrade” to Galaxy S4.

    • That HTC T6 might be NICE though….Samsung better being it if those specs are reality for HTC

Totally off topic. Bought a nexus 4 on 5/21/13 and my credit card was charged twice and I have been getting a run around trying to get the charges reversed or getting a refund. Have dealt with store manager for the most part with one call to T-Mobile directly and no results. Its been a week today and all I got was 5-7 more days for resolution

    • …ok?

    • thepanttherlady

If the charge is still “pending” there won’t be much you can do until the vendor does their thing.

If the charge has actually hit twice, file a dispute with your credit card company.

      • JaswinderSinghJammu

Thanks, its already on my credit card statement..

        • Balvinder sangha

Call them panchods after you do it jaswinder LOL

        • enoch861

Always take it up with the Credit Card company. They’re usually on your side more than anyone else.

    • Who do you back with? Seems suspect……your bank should have easily handled something like this…………….delay? Ha I would have a temporary credit in one to two days FLAT resolution in weeks time the merchant has to respond with correct proof or bam…..Lol don’t lie to the internet

      • JaswinderSinghJammu

It’s a capitol one credit card. It’s still not resolved but I did get the tmobile store to let to switch to S4 from Nexus 4. No restocking fee either

Been holding out for the Note III. Let’s make it happen!

  • Josue

I want to see phones with the lytros technology

  • kimchee not interested on this camera functions. I want my note 3 to be a superfast phone! make it 4gigs of ram of kors exynos 5 octacore with 2.5ghz of speed!!! boom!

    • How much more faster do you need…….the note two it’s already super fast stock…..even faster if root and uninstall bloat……Yes they do need to improve the camera and stand out

  • I would if it will use less memory then the s4?

    • g2a5b0e

Considering it will probably have the same suite of features & even more, probably not. If they are smart, they will begin arming their flagships with 32GB minimum of on board storage henceforth.

    • Storage memory and ram are two totally different things. Which are you referring to? Either way though my guess is that since it has more features that it would not be less but more of both. I’d actually like to see these phones come with 3Gb of ram as even my 2Gb S3 is usually full because of all the resident apps I use.

  • Ordeith

    speaking of impressive cameras.

I just wish I had a date for this release on T-Mobile.

    • Alex Zapata

That 925 looks quite sexy, though I’m much more curious about that Eos.

  • weezy34

If this feature will cause the Note3 more fragile or thicker, then I’d happily do without it.

  • I’m ok with a bit of extra thickness if it gives better camera quality. Especially low light non flash photography.

  • Daniel Duran

Can you imagine, and I wouldn’t doubt it’s gonna happen soon. A smartphone with optical zoom so the lens extends out just like a regular camera. That’d be kinda cool. Just puttin’ that out there. Don’t bash me. Lol

  • All they need to do is create the zoom and allow it to “expand out” and “fold back” in. And lol seriously at “rumored”almost every device that comes out has an “improved”camera don’t act like we all don’t know pretty much what we are getting….”improved” s pen, processor, screen, sapps, camera, larger screen, etc….I mean….DUH

  • lwalty

    Shutup, and take my money!

  • Sanjay kumar negi

With improved camera and optical zoom technology Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will have a strong reason to attract a large number of users worldwide.

  • Richard Yarrell

I don’t need to even say what’s up. Everyone already knows how I roll.
