Dell Fesses Up To Venue Pro Wi-Fi Issues, Will Reship November 19th

I must have been sleeping today or just caught in up Nexus S news and rumors but Microsoft has come clean on the matter of the Dell Venue Pro Wi-Fi’s issue. According to the report an error during production prohibits the Venue Pro from connecting to a secure Wi-Fi network. Therefore Microsoft will allow for customers who purchased the device during the first few days of availability will be allowed to come back and exchange for a brand new device.

We have confirmed that the Wi-Fi connectivity issue that was reported in blogs like Boy Genius Report and Ubergizmo resulted from a software glitch during Dell’s manufacturing process. The issue affected some of our initial phone shipments and was not a hardware issue or a Windows Phone 7 one. Customers who purchased Venue Pro smartphones on Monday or Tuesday (November 8 or 9) at a Microsoft Store and who are experiencing the protected WiFi network connectivity issue also have the option of bringing your phone back to the Microsoft Store for an exchange, beginning at the end of next week. Your new phone will fix the Wi-Fi issue as well.

    Anyone care?

  • sandytoes

Nope. Doesn’t seem like anyone does. Everyone is hyped up about the “nexus s”

  • somebody

umm im going to have to say no

  • trife

Dude, its a Dell. What did you expect?

In all seriousness, this is one of the ugliest devices I’ve seen in a long time. No curb appeal, IMO.

    • 2FR35H

Hah maybe to you, who might just have bad taste.

      • trife

Absolutely. That’s why I stated that. To each his own.

        • BrainlessDrone

if each to their own, then why does anyone care what you think… much less you care what I think?

        • 2FR35H

Ah ha I didn’t see that inclusion of IMO previously. My bad.

  • jesus

the g2 is the way to go

  • Lukian

It’s beautiful no doubt about that but the lack of HSPA+ and being sold by Dell and not by T-Mo= thumbs down

  • Still don’t care. I’m still buying one ASAP! :) Goodbye Nexus One (as soon as I can sell it!).

  • Why is everyone hyped about the nexus trash. If it already had a 1ghz and 5mp camera, why not create one with 1.5 ghz and an 8 mp camera. They suck. Tmobile where u at?

  • ob18

meh, the phone is not easy on my eyes and will pass. I am most likely going to end up with the mytouch 4g.

  • Pimpstrong

Aint this gonna be an Android phone as well? Now that would be sick.

I see there was a “How are you liking your MT4G” posting so now I look forward to a “Does WP7 suck” post.

  • Wilma Flintstone

Dell earned some respect from me with this mews. Most other companies would’ve just said either “screw you” or “we’ll fix it in an update – (which never comes)”. I do like the back cover design but I won’t be getting this.

    • TheDude

Or they could have denied it at first, then came out with an emergency keynote and stated that all phones have wi-fi issues but they’re going to solve the issue by releasing an ugly cover for the phone.

      • Wilma Flintstone

I C wut u did there… And I like it. HAAAA!!! So true TheDude.

  • Wilma Flintstone

also, lookey what Verizon may be getting if it’s real:

    • Pimpstrong

Curious, why do you mention VZW? I havent seen that indication yet. And 14.4Mbps HSDPA and 5.76Mbps HSUPA sounds an awful lot like Tmobile’s current HSPA+ offerings.

      • Claude

I agree with you that it sounds a lot like T-Mobile and not Verizon.

      • Wilma Flintstone

I say Verizon because they say 4.5 inch Droid and Verizon is the only company that gets the Droid line. The odd part is though, that this droid is made by Samsung instead of Motorola.

Of course, they always could mean Android Phone by Droid but they just confuse people then.

Also, I highly doubt Tmo will secure a phone that good. Thats basically the phone I want minus the Samsung part (I’m not very fond of Samsungs build quality). Hopefully Tmo surprises me though but I highly doubt they’ll get a phone with everything I want. Prove me wrong Tmo.

        • UzukiC

Didn’t you hear? People don’t understand you’re talking about Android unless you use the word Droid. Kind of like how if you run a computer that uses linux you’re not allowed to call it a PC. Strange social requirements, eh?

  • Yyevo

I’m with Wilma, most companies would simply ignore the issue or, eventually, give an update with no mea culpa. +10 for Dell.

  • Elias

I hope Dell gives free Dell DJ’s for all of the inconvenience this has caused.

  • truth

What’s up with dell? Been waiting for this phone for ever. I guest I have to wait some more. dang!!

What’s up with dell? Been waiting for this phone for ever. I guess I have to wait some more. dang!!

  • Android User

I am curious. If it is not a Hardware issue and not a Windows 7 issue… where does the issue lie? If Windows 7 encompasses all the software on the phone, this is saying that it is neither software nor hardware.

  • ThreeFourSeven

I agree with others. They could of ignore the issue and push an update a couple weeks after launch.

  • iknowaeiou

I like the look of this phone, and mostly like WP7 – but damned if my next phone doesn’t have HSPA+ and HDMI out.

  • ant

where is it on its supposed to come out today on that site

  • RYU

Okay…Dell Venue Pro is not coming out until later this week.

It has been pushed out. I called to place my order annnnd nope. NO GO.

  • Rhynn

I’m sort of in the I don’t care line. I’ve been waiting for this phone for almost a year with the HD7 my second choice (back when they were showing spy pics of it and calling it the Mondrian) and…it’s like Dell WANTS it to fail. No information, sight-unseen buying, etc. Pathetic sales strategy. If you go on their Venue page right now and look to the right there’s actually a link to AT&T rates on there and no mention of T-Mobile whatsoever, so if I didn’t know it was a T-Mo phone and kept waiting for it, I’d have stayed on AT&T and expected it there.

This strategy is garbage. It doesn’t make me want the phone more. It’s made me walk into T-Mo and sign up a new plan, and walk out on the spot with an HD7. Nice going Dell. I knew I had our company jump ship to HP for a reason.

    • RYU

      I hear you, bro!

This is shameful for Dell. Why leak the launch date if you cannot meet it…I believe many have been wait for this device, yet Dell ignores any response to the launch. The Dell reps do not know what to say but “Sign up on the Venue Pro launch link”. The President of the mobile device line retires…WHAT IS GOING ON DELL?!

It makes me question the quality of their other product lines.

TMO, Do you have any more inside to what is going on? I am leaning towards the HD7 at this point.

This phone looks nice i dont what some of you guys are talking about..
