Recapping 3G Launches To Date For 2009

There is little debate as to whether or not T-mobile is behind its larger competitors in the rollout of3G goodness. The sooner we accept that truth, the better. With that knowledge behind us, T-mobile is making great strides often firing up new cities weekly in order to provide their customer base with the type of speeds they have begun to envy from the competition. Thankfully, T-mobile is doing everything right as proven by yesterdays JD power report, declared among the “Best in the West” for wireless call quality. So where do we stand as of 8/21, just a few days back when I got the recent round of 2009 to date launch cities? We know its a few days behind withCharleston, South Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina having launched since this hit my inbox. I’ve also received reports that Santa Barbara, CA has launched along with Macon, GA, both unconfirmed. Check the list; check it twice if you must and, as always, we’ll keep you up to date with every T-mobile 3G launch city!

it also hit charlottesville, va earlier this week, and has been in fredericksburg, va for a while now, as well!

  • WXman

So my original post is gone. What is required to switch a city to 3G? Is it tower hardware upgrades, or just software upgrades on the ground? Why does it take so long?

  • It is also available in Danbury, CT according to their coverage maps

  • Milwaukee wisconsin is missing

  • Mark

It also takes freeing up the AWS spectrum.
I have heard that the Gov’t is STILL a holdup in many instances.

  • 30014

Covington, Ga can be added to the list. We went live last week along with Conyers, Ga.

  • Rick

Yes the government is slow at everything except collecting taxes. I’m sure it will be a year or two before t-mobile finally has a 3G network rivaling the other 3 carriers.

  • Cassy

Honolulu, HI…. PLEASE!!!!! We want 3g… don’t believe the myths that claim we live in grass huts!

  • FILA

Baltimore metro, whoohoo! now come up a little north please, fill in that 95 corridor.

  • G-1 on H-1

YEAH, 3G in Honolulu Already!!! By the end of sept please!!!!

That way I can browse the web while stuck in traffic. And get a ticket for operating my cell phone. Wooohoo! Livin’ on the edge baby!

  • Antny

It appears that Santa Barbara, CA is having a slow rollout. I woke up this morning to 3G in Goleta, but the UCSB campus is still on Edge. My roommate’s been getting 3G in downtown SB for over a week now, but only in one particular location.

  • hollisjamison

I can confirm since August 30th that 3g has hit Macon, GA for Tmobile. Verified with my g1.

  • Curtis

It has also launched in Palm Springs Ca.

Please tell me why Columbia, South Carolina isn’t anywhere on the list? I have seen it on other ones, but not this one. Im seriously thinking of going with the big V.

  • PatStage

I have been getting 3g coverage in Macon since Sunday afternoon, at work in west macon and at home in east macon, so i guess it was now hit macon, Ga

  • helloo

  • Patty

    • JoeBlazer

Seconded. I’ve been arguing with T-Mobile for months about getting 3G down here, and I’m half tempted to tell them to go kick rocks.

  • Wdalecole

Does anyone know when 4g or even 3g will be available in yulee/ fernandina beach , fl area? we are just outside of Jacksonville and the data service stinks.
