FCC Reveals GSM HTC Touch Pro

On July 25th, the FCC passed the HTC Raphael, also known as the HTC Touch Pro. We can tell very little about the phone from the limited information released by the FCC (HTC requested much of it be kept confidential) however we can see that the Touch Pro will have Quad-Band GSM, GPRS, EDGE, and WiFi. Simply put, this means that the (850/950/1800/1900 MHz) which the Raphael will support can work on both T-mobile’s, or AT&T’s networks. Sporting Wifi, the HTC Touch Pro could be the newest Smartphone to be added to T-mobile’s Hotspot@Home lineup.  Our Question: Why would AT&T release a smartphone with no 3G, and overall worse specs then the HTC Tilt? That, and only that (No rumors as of yet) make us think that the HTC Touch Pro is on its way to T-mobile USA. Stay tuned for more information

  • This almost made me go crazy. But, no 3G come on!!! Imma still keep my tony hawk le sidekick lx then.

  • Orlando Reyes

What do you mean it has no wifi. They clearly tested the 2.4Mhz spectrum and displayed Maximum output of WLAN(Wi-Fi).

  • Nwahs

Thanks for that correction. I have fixed the article to reflect that. I am still getting all this info down…

Edit: (These are for clarification, and not specs of the Touch Pro)

    Voice/Data = 850/900/1800/1900
    WCDMA I AT&T = 2100/????
    WCDMA IV T-mobile = 1700/2100
    WLAN (Wifi) = 2.4 MHz
    Bluetooth = ???

  • Orlando Reyes

    Its 2.4 as well.

  • Orlando Reyes

    Bluetooth that is.

  • Orlando Reyes

I meant to say 2.4 GHz. I know someone is going to over here and make the correction. I should have just said 2400 MHz. :)

  • Jimbo831

I just can’t believe that T-Mobile would come out with this phone without adding 3G. I think it would be ridiculous to release a device like this after the 3g launch without it

  • Steven I

I think it would be a bad move to release such a nice phone with out including 3G. If the rumors are true that October 1st is the big day in some 25 markets, why would T-Mobile release a really nice phone with out including their new 3G network. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

  • marco

it has bluetooth, quadband gsm and wifi

  • Nina

this is nice & all but seriously NO 3G? I already know a lot of people who want this on t-mobile and 3G is a requirement. it would be incredibly not-smart to release this without 3G

  • mingkee

    att 3g is WCDMA II/V
let’s prepare rotten eggs if the final one does not have WCDMA IV

  • silk7

    Let me understand this.
We MAY get a HTC touch pro but with no 3g?
And it may come out 4Q right?
How much would you pay for a non3G phone? Hmmmmmmmm.
I think i’m heading the Android way the 4Q (still not liking the swivel )

  • Nina

I just noticed something. Just because this report doesnt identify 3G as a connectivity option that doesnt mean it isnt there. HTC didnt want a ton of info about this leaked so for all we know this model could have 3G/4G/5G/6G and a 10mp camera… we’re jumping to conclusions people

  • T1 Connect

listen the touch pro has a 3g radio in it period, the messed up part is the article didn’t tell us if its hsdpa 2100 att or 1700/2100 which is tmobile i found that kind of funny theres no specs. whoever posted that article needs to put the specs up. and tmobile isn’t that stupid to order a phone with a 528mhz processor 512mb rom 256mb ram run on edge and a bulls&*t phone like a nokia 3555b run 3g that would be just retarded.

  • silk7

    @ T1 connect
tmobile isn’t that stupid to order a phone with a 528mhz processor 512mb rom 256mb ram run on edge and a bulls&*t phone like a nokia 3555b run 3g that would be just retarded.

We are talking about T-Mo right? sadly t-mo would do just that.give a HT phone with no 3G!!!

  • renmique

This makes perfect sense, right now TMobile focus is this H@H crap, so if they release a nice touch phone without 3G, but release it with H@H software its right in line with their thinking, i.e. lets stick them back at home

  • mingkee

here is the band list to clarify
    I: 1900/2100
    II: 1900 (ATT) PCS
    III: 1800 DCS
    IV: 1700/2100 (T-Mobile) AWS
    V: 850
    VI: 2600
    VII: 800 (JP)
    VIII: 900
    IX: 1700 (JP/KR)

  • Christian

    Honestly, I don’t think I’d use 3G…
So I would gladly welcome this phone especially since I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it
If I wanna access any internet just open Opera, it has decent speed…
anyway if I still want high speed just hook it up to my wi-fi at home if I’m too lazy to open a laptop or the computer…
Basically I don’t think I’d use 3G for data services, I just don’t have a need for it now, so I’m good.

  • mingkee

I used to say that, till I have 3G here
with HSDPA, wifi speed is EVERYWHERE

  • henry

wow lesser spec’d than the tilt eh?
all aboard the fail-train, now departing Wingville, next stop Raphaeltown. Please do not mind the slow speed of the fail-train, clearly your smartphone does not need fast data.

  • Nina

If t-mobile does pick up the Raphael… dear mother of Jesus please let this phone have 3G AND WIFI AND everything else.

  • Is T-Mobile planning on raising their data plan price once 3G is rolled out everywhere? Not sure if I want to pay an extra $10 to $20 more for a faster download.

  • chelsea

    how much is it?

  • Shawn

    T1 Connect,

HTC requested that the FCC keep many of the specs for the Touch Pro confidential until November, 2008. All the specs posted are all the specs we know.

Plainly put, the HTC Touch Pro was not tested with any kind of 3G (WCDMA). That fasted internet speed it was tested with was EDGE.

  • b4u4ever

how long does it usually take for a phone to be released after and FCC approval?

  • T1 Connect

Damn shawn it hurts to know that. but gotta keep the hopes up like i said before tmobile cannot be that stupid they just cant be.

  • nick

    oh yes they can……

  • Shep

Lets speculate some more shall we. This phone will actually drive your car for you through its GPS settings. If you want another beer…tell it..it will serve you one.

Go read HTCs website and you will see Quadband GSM listed under its specifications. Now please stop speculating and comparing until August 15th( expected information release of hardware and carrier).

  • pxchoi

It’s still early. TMO 3G is only about 2-3 months away according to the rumors at least. I’m keeping my hopes up that this phone will be 3G.

I don’t think that TMO would invest over 4 Billion Dollars in an attempt to launch there 3G network and not have one of the hottest phones to take advantage of it.

Also even at release, if its not 3G data capable, wouldn’t a firmware update fix that?

    Any thoughts?

  • Tom

You guys are so stupid, it does have 3G… http://www.htc.com to look at the specs. And no, you can’t “firmware update” to get 3G, it’s in the hardware. Idiots.
    Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
    Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
    Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

  • I just hope this phone has yahoo, aol, and windows live messanger

  • Anonymous

I just want to know the date or a speculation of the arrival date. Also, has anyone heard of the HTC Dream yet?

  • Tom

Yeah, the HTC Dream will be the first phone with Android, Google’s new operating system. Personally I’d rather have the Touch Pro, but there are videos around showing the Dream in action… Pretty cool.

  • Anonymous

would you mind posting some videos or websites? also when is the expected arrival date of both the dream and the touch pro?

  • Terrence

yeah it comes out 4 t-mobile i knew that wat i want 2 kno is when it comes out

  • Anonymous

    its confirmed for tmobile?!?! yes!!!!!!

  • Tom

Terrence has no clue what he’s talking about… Don’t get excited. I have right now, on my desktop, a ROM for the Touch Pro. Want to know what the ROM is called? “RUU_RAPHAEL_CINGULAR_US_.exe” So believe what you want, but I don’t see why there would be a ROM for a T-Mobile phone with the title of Cingular… Anyways, as for the HTC Dream I saw a request for a video… Here you go.

  • Anonymous

I have heard that its also coming out for t-mobile

  • Purevil

What the hell are you people talking about? This unit is HSDPA, which is a 3G technology just like WCDMA. It is also supposed to work with the slower WCDMA. It will be rated for a 7.2 MBPS download. It however is not listed as using the 1700mhz band that T-Mobile USA will purportedly be using for up link. Connections.

    Direct from the HTC site:

    Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds

The phone will be released in Europe and Asia on August 8th 2008. It is unlikely to be released on t-mobile in the US until Q4 if they pick it up. It will be available here on the 8th as well. http://www.dechowireless.com It has instant messenger programs as well.

As for t-mobile right now they have been doing nothing but pissing me off with their poor selection of phones and their incessant delaying of their 3g release over the last year.

  • Shawn

HTC may have made the device with WCDMA, however when the FCC recently tested it, there were no HSDPA/WCDMA bands tested. Either the TouchPro for the US will not have the hardware, or it will but it will just be disabled. Unless they retest it at some point in the future

  • Ken

I talked to T-Mobile’s customer loyaty dept this morning. Me and my wife were ready to switch to ATT takeing our 5 lines and 6yrs of service with us. They offered us 2000 mins for $79.99 and unlimited text on all lines for $9.99 and gave us free upgrades on all phones. I currently have a wing, and told the rep that I was happy with my phone and didn’t want a upgrade on my line. The rep told me “I’ll note your account because in a few weeks we will have a new HTC device” Of course I asked for more info but this is what I got “all I can say at this time is that the demo video we (management) were showed in our meeting was that of a sleek black, touch screen HTC device with 3g to be available on… well sir let me just say that if you wait for this phone, it will be in your hands by Oct 1” So there you go a confirmed 3g launch date and a new HTC device before.

  • Ken

One more note I asked about the BB Bold my wifes a BB lover, and was told “it’ll be awhile maybe Q1 2009”

  • Xander

    My understanding:

This is the “Pro” version of the HTC diamond which has already launched in other markets (Europe, Taiwan, etc.)

Youtube the HTC touch diamond and you pretty much know what you can expect from the touch pro.

  • Purevil

No, it is not the same phone, it is faster, more powerful, has more memory and and a qwerty keyboard among other differences. The two phones are distributed world wide and is unlikely that they will be changed after the initial release. The spec’s for both have been released at http://www.htc.com There is a one quarter delay for the US market but it will be available here unlocked in a few hours. I imagine the delay is because the FCC needs to finish its evaluation of the phone, not that they are holding off on those functions.

The major similarity between it and the diamond is the general appearance of the outside of the phone and the touch flow interface. A lot of people have been talking about the interface for the pro by showing its sister phone the diamond so that is a easy mistake to make.

As for the black htc phone it could be the dream, it is scheduled for release next quarter. Unfortunately my current phone has given up the ghost so i cant wait. I will get a LG KF750 to fill in in the meanwhile.

  • mark

Well Kenny boy, do you know which HTC device that the employee was talking about? The HTC Touch Pro or the HTC Dream?

  • Christy

Ken – Are you sure the T-Mobile rep wasn’t referring to the new Diamond release? HTC just got past FCC with a new 3G DIAMOND. She, afterall, didn’t mention a full qwerty which is one of the primary differentiators bw Diamond and Pro (that and the Pro is rumored to blow Diamond away). http://www.intomobile.com/2008/07/29/htc-touch-diamond-finally-gets-fcc-approval-with-us-3g-hsdpa-support.html

  • Purevil

Well here is the latest info on the two current het phones and t-mobile… http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_mda_compact_iv_mda_vario_iv-review-252.php

  • Purevil

Err HTC. T-mobile is marketing them as the MDA Compact IV (Diamond) and the MDA Vario IV (Touch Pro)

  • Tony

There is actually a version of this phone that was revealed b T-Mobile Germany (the device has T-Mobile stamped on it) that is supposed to have 3G. I saw the info on gsmarena.com. Check out the link for the story, http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_mda_compact_iv_mda_vario_iv-review-252.php

  • Purevil

You posted the exact same link posted two days before and an inch or two above yours on the screen.

  • phone crazy

So is the HTC Touch PRO coming to T-mobile on July 25th for sure? It HAS to come…. i loveeee this device

  • phone crazy

Is it official that this phone will be released on July 25th? I have heard it is going to be called the Shadow III … I can’t wait!
