Google Cancels Monday’s Playground Event Due To Hurricane Sandy

According to a brief comment sent to MarketingLand, Google has canceled their Monday Playground event due to safety concerns over Hurricane Sandy:

“We are canceling our Monday morning event in New York due to Hurricane Sandy. We will let you know our plans as soon as we know more.”

We’ll let you know the moment Google reschedules the event.

    DAMN IT SANDY!

  • SocalTeknique

That’s why they should stick to doing events in California like everyone else *cough Apple cough Microsoft cough*

    • jessejames111981

…because cali never has a natural disaster?

      • DuvallMariano

Our natural disasters can’t be predicted.

        • TMOLOYAL

HMMM?? When is the last time an earthquake was predicted?? At least with a hurricane you know exactly where it is going and when it will be there.

        • John

Did you read his comment correctly…?

      • SocalTeknique

        other than earthquakes, nope.

  • JT

    The Playground is closed.

    • Tyberious

But don’t fret, new pool opens soon.

  • SocalTeknique

We already know what they’re unveiling through all these leaks anyways.

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

  • JBLmobileG1

Too bad they can’t just come to Las Vegas and announce it here. After all we do host one of the biggest electronics conventions. Maybe it’s nothing worth holding your breath over and that is why they can wait it out a bit. I guess we will find out sooner or later.

    • Jose Hernandez

Or maybe, they just don’t want to put people in danger of dying by attending and would rather have everyone safe by rescheduling the event? Where are your priorities? You would probably be saying how horrible Google was is they still had the event and someone got hurt.

      • TMOLOYAL

Damn touchy much?? He was not saying go forward and risk peoples safety. He was saying why not just have it in Las Vegas in the first place. Nothing in his comment said F**K safety I want to know what this is about!!

  • Jimmy

Great the wait for the pricing on the LG nexus just got longer.
They should just move the event to the west coast, San Francisco, L. A., EVEN SEATTLE

  • TonyJ

David I’m assuming that the T-Mobile event Monday 7PM in NYC is cancelled also? Do you have any info on that?

    • http://tmonews.com David

      I don’t, I didn’t get an invite (my first non-invite in years) so I don’t know what’s going on.

      • droidboy23

You’ve mentioned it at least twice now… did it get them to send an invite yet?

        • tmorep

Its cancelled, I received a email about this yesterday.

        • Chotpy

That’s what they get for not inviting David!

        • http://tmonews.com David

          Exactly!

  • CactusCat

Maybe the next phone should be called the “Hurricane”

I am wondering if they will still sell the current Galaxy Nexus alongside whatever new will come out. Samsung (SII and SIII) and Apple (4, 4S, etc.) have had success with keeping older models around for another second cycle. Do we have any indication the current Galaxy Nexus may stay for a while?

    • John Rocke

It should stay current for quite a while. The Nexus S just got jellybean and it’s a single core 1 ghz phone with 512mb of ram. The Galaxy Nexus with its 1.2 ghz dual core and 1gb of ram should have quite a bit of lasting power. Google has made it well known that nexus phones will have a long update cycle. Judging by the nexus s which was released 2 years ago and still getting updates, I’m guessing it will be measured in years not months.

Unlike LG Updates, which is measured by nanoseconds.

Speaking of the Galaxy S II, any more news on the new “color refresh”. Not sure if minor news like that would get its own news story.

  • Steven

gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. I mean, there’s no surprises of what is launching, BUT I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THERE WILL BE A 3G VERSION OF THE NEXUS 10. (sorry to yell that)

  • None

Do you think LG will be the only Nexus cell phone manfacturer announced?

  • Noel

Just like last year…the event was cancelled due Steve J passing. Hopefully won’t be too long but if its gonna take more than a week due to any damage by the storm then just change the site to Las Vegas.

  • Chotpy

    AAAAAAHHHHHH WHHHHYYYYYYY
