T-Mobile, AT&T And Sprint Galaxy S II Models Revealed

Well we can put to rest what we have known for some time, that on Monday, August 29th Samsung will reveal the Galaxy S II models for T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint. The good news is that the T-Mobile variant at first glance looks exactly like the version that has been floating around the internet along with our own leaked shots. All will be answered this upcoming Monday but we could still find ourselves waiting a little while longer for the T-Mobile version to hit store shelves. We’re hearing that October 26th date tossed around more and more as the release date. We’ll know everything in just a few days.

    • oh shut up, that’s really getting old.  Apple should be sued by Stanley Kubrik who had his tablets in 2001: A Space Odyssey.  Apple is grasping at straws at this point.

      • Not trying to troll, really. It’s just the first thing that came to mind when I saw the pic. And it may be “old”, but these are new phones coming out.

    • So by your logic, any phone that is black, touchscreen and rectangular looks like an iPhone?

    • James Devenberg

I think the AT&T one does the most.  Not that they should be sued by Apple over it, because come on, how much variance can their really be in black rectangular touch screen phones.  This does look more iPhone-ish than most though.

No it doesn’t.  Rumour is Verizon will get a Nexus Prime like device, but not a Google phone.   Similar to the Nexus 1 and the Incredible/Desire.  One with Vanilla one without.

I wouldn’t care if they gave me $1000 to have one of these hunks of junk.  Never again.  Samsung didn’t release their updates for Galaxy S forever and the battery life on Android sucks.  I would rather just have a dumb phone.

You should try Windows Phone 7.  I get much better battery life on my HD7 than I did on my MyTouch 4G.  Rarely will my battery run dead.  I usually have nearly half a battery left and the end of the day and can go around a day and a half without charging should the need arise.  Updates have also been very, very prompt and most of my most used apps are either available on Windows Phone 7 or have substitutes that are just as good if not better that are available on Windows Phone 7.

WP7 phones suck!  Specifically HD7.  No wi-fi calling, no front facing camera, annoying tile theme, and lack of cool apps.  Oh yeah try working at a store where all you see if angry customers who complain about the battery life on their phone.  Did I forget to mention Mango update has been ready from Microsoft but HTC/T-Mobile are lagging.  Who wants to connect their phone to Zune for updates?  That’s like iCrap iPhones where you must plug your device to iTunes aka iScam.

      • Antoinetrenton2003

Hd7 sucks I have a my touch 4g I had update it to Android 2.3.4 much better battery life then Android 2.2.1 so do your research

        • Tortionist

The battery life on My Motorola Defy is great rooted and ROM flashed it gets 2 full days with moderate use and three full days with light use. Before it was rooted it got one and a half days with Motoblur on it. I had decent battery life on my G2, MT4G and Optimus T as well. So, I have to totally agree with you.

Not sure about the Hercules. It looks larger, which is too bad. The 4.5″ Infuse is just on the side of too large. Having tried both, the 4.3″ size is just right, even though it just a 1/2 cm and 1 cm difference on the sides. The lighter weight is nice also.

This could be my reason for not buying a tablet. If I get this and a new laptop, why would I need a tablet? I see no value n buying a tablet with having this phone and a decent laptop. The AT&T version does look a bit I phonish. I just hope the T mobile version doesn’t get too stripped down.

Hate to admit, I am just planning on joining the android game.  Which phone type is best for large fingers, a phone with keyboard or touch screen?  Also, what features help (i.e swype, etc.), and feel free to recommend a specific TMO phone.  Willing to pay for the latest and greatest as long as I am making the jump, but the whole fat finger thing is my biggest concern. Thanks. all..

    • Bimmerz

If you have large hands/fingers, then the Hercules might be worth your wait – at 4′.5″ screen, should be big enough. Best to go check one out in person, when it launches, and see if it fits well with your needs.

As for the keyboard, Hercules will be a touchscreen – hopefully with Swype. But if not, you can always download it, or use one of the many other great keyboards out there – many like Swift Key. I have both Swift Key, and Swype – I prefer Swype.

      • Guest Guy

        Very Helpful.  Thanks much.

        • Tortionist

I find T9 flex works about as well as SWYPE. Remember, you can also put the phone in landscape mode which makes it a lot easier to type, because the on screen keys get larger. The SGS II is what i’m going to go for and keep my Defy as a back up.

I hope the lack of Verizon’s version, that the rumors are not true. I read that Verizon passed on the SGS 2, because they are getting the Nexus Prime instead.

This isn’t to say that Google wouldn’t launch the next Nexus on other carriers too (come to mama/aka T-Mobile), but it might mean a longer wait for other carriers.

Ready to find out the official specs for the T-Mo version. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait until Tuesday thanks to friggin’ Irene. Grrrr. a 1.5 Exynos dual-core and 540×960 would be awesome but we’ll probably get the 1.2 Qualcomm and 480×800. As late as we’re getting it and with these lesser specs, they should have called it Epimetheus instead of Hercules.

Why did they have to change the design from the original? I loved the sharp edges on the original SGII, as it’s much more distinctive. These all just look like the Vibrant now…

Do you know that in the android market there are several FREE home replacments that often work better than ANY manufacturers option? Launcher pro can run using barely any memory and ADW is so customkizable it will make you satisfied. Go launcher is ok but I felt oddly limited while using it but it was also very animated and customizable.

If there’s an MIUI port for the Sprint model, I’ll buy one. I’ve been sans-smartphone for a month now, I feel like it’s stupid to start a new contract while this, the iPhone 5 and Nexus Prime are scheduled to release within the next two months.

In the meantime, I feel like I’ve quit smoking. I need a gadget to hold me over.

Also, I did quit smoking last week. This is rough. Phonedog, you have giveaways all the time, why not send me a smartphone to hold me over? I’m on my parents Verizon family plan at the moment (I’m 30, it feels a little degrading). Can you send me any iPhone or Android phone for Verizon to hold me over the next few months? I’ll even sign a contract to return it by December if you want.

Thanks. The last time I quit lasted four months before my wife took off and left me with our kid (meaning, I have her). I started again when that happened. I’ve been doing it for about 15 years. I’ve never been a heavy, pack a day smoker, but I’ve never gone longer than six months without a cigarette either. I’ve never in my life smoked indoors, around kids, or took extra breaks at work to smoke one… which always kept me from smoking too much.

Anway, to keep it relevant, hose studies are accurate; Being gadget-less after having one all the time is quite similar to quitting smoking. Not exactly the same, but similar.

  • A new report posted by PhAndroid claims that T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S2, or the so-called Samsung Hercules was discovered making it’s way through the FCC on Thursday, suggesting that the device is near release date. Based on previous FCC to release activities of T-Mobile, it is highly possible that the device will arrive by the end of September. The Samsung Hercules is the “most leaked” Galaxy S II variant. In fact, multiple images, including the Canadian variant for Telus carrier was also leaked, showing off the phone’s slim design and slight rounded edges.Apparently, Samsung Galaxy S II is also expected to arrive in two other United States carriers, Sprint Nextel and AT&T, while Verizon Wireless is reportedlyskipping the Galaxy S II for still unknown reasons. According to Android and Me, it is highly possible that Sprint Nextel will be the first carrier to launch a Galaxy S II smartphone, the Samsung Epic Touch 4G based on the “clues” (Sprint apps) found in the Samsung Mobile video for the Galaxy S2 USA variants. Both the T-Mobile and Sprint Nextel Galaxy S II smartphones are expected to carry 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of dedicated RAM, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 2-megapixel front camera, Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 out of the box, and the latest version of TouchWiz user interface custom skin that is less iPhone-ish, and with additional customization support.

Not since the MT4G and the G2 have I really gotten excited about a smartphone, until this one. I will get this one, unless the Prime is just as good or better. We shall see. I used to be an early adopter, but since I root my phones and flash ROMs, I usually wait a few weeks after the phones released.

I still don’t understand why they make variations on design. So Apple can only block 1 version at a time?

I went to T-mobile today to upgrade my contract but didnt want a phone now and the Rep said the Hercules drops the end of September

  • Guest Guy

For a noob, based on what is known, what is the basic difference between the Hercules and the Nexus Prime?  I am planning on waiting at least for the Hercules, and willing to wait for the Prime if there is a good reason to do so.  Any insight would be appreciated.

    • Bimmerz

The Prime is a pure stock Google phone, meaning it will not have carrier or manufacturer’s bloatware on it. It also will not have Samsung’s Touchwiz UI on it.

The Prime will come with the latest/newest upcoming Android OS 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich – where as Hercules will come with the current Gingerbread. Also, the Prime will be the 1st to get updates from Google, and you won’t have to wait on T-Mobile or Samsung to get updates.

I am interested in both of these phones, and will wait to compare them side-by-side, once they have been released. Since I’ll have to do an outright buy (no discount with a contract), I want to ensure that I am happy with its specs and its overall build quality. I may even wait a month after both have released, to read some user reviews, before deciding.

Good luck with your decision! =o)

t-mobile would make a big mistake if they decide to release this end of october.best to release first or second week of september.

    • Nearmsp

I agree. Some phone manufacturers went head to head with Apple (HP – pad), Blackberry and so forth which was not a smart move. If Samsung is wise, it will clean out those Americans out of contract before the iPhone 5 comes out. Having released the SGS2 in Korea in April and the world over after that, the US has been ignored by Samsung. This is their best phone and they would have made a killing all summer if they had released it by May. Even HTC benefited from the delay. We are in to fall now, and one can hear the iPhone 5 train coming in and Samsung is yet to set release dates for SGS2 let alone shipping phones to the US.  Hopefully they will announce that phones are available in September 1st week not in October!

      • adi

I have been waiting forever too, especially on Verizon…  Way too late…   I don’t think it’s Samsung that’s delaying the release…  It just doesn’t make any sense… unless they are not interested in making money, doing it just for fun…
Why would any right minded person intentionally delay something that’s evidently ready and best in the class by six months, which is like light years in the extremely fast changing smartphone/technology industry, giving the competitors all the time they need to catch up … Given all that has occurred, it appears to be the ‘forces’ against it that’s delaying it intentionally to a point that it will have no or minimal its impact on the other “so so” phones that are coming down the road soon from the ‘big’ names…  They must have been extremely threatened by the impact/success it had in Europe and Asia earlier this year.  Can you image what it would have done to the American smpartphone market if it came out in spring or early/mid summer as many people had expected…?   Look at what Verizon did at the last minute with the lame execuse…  I guess it’s not easy to compete in the homeground of the big competitors… and consumers like us will lose out on the best technology…
