Blackberry Torch 9860 Passes FCC With AWS On Board

Oh wow, Blackberry news, I feel like it’s been a long time (maybe not that long).  Either way, Blackberry’s newest Torch just passed the FCC, and it is looking like this device may be hitting all of the carriers, which of course includes T-mobile.  If you ask me, this is probably what RIM should have been doing with their devices a long time ago, but that isn’t their greatest problem now is it.  I literally know one person that is excited about this, what about you?

So, what happens when blackberry torch 9890 is released and they want to release another torch?  Before anyone else replies with this, I’ll throw it out there:

Oh, wait, there won’t be any more ’cause BB is going downhill and probably won’t be around to make the 5 more iterations of the torch!

Sorry, I just couldn’t resist.  Maybe BB will turn around and they figure out a different naming convention.

      Woah, you’re witty.

Better hardware. Better browser. RIM probably wouldn’t be in much trouble had they gotten these two things together on their phones. They would still be a little bit behind but not like this.

  • scuzzbag87

blackberry just die already  only retards want these phones

    • From1st_2last

That statement is just ignorant & false. Lot’s of people want Blackberry phones. That’s why they still make them. Just because it doesn’t fit into what you look for in a phone, that doesn’t mean other’s would love this device. Think before you speak kid. You’re world isn’t THE world.

      • From1st_2last

        Sorry, I meant WOULDN’T.

All caps? Really? Shouting on a discussion board like this is rude. Just sayin’…

  • JBOINLOVE

Not now. If they would have released the original Torch on T-Mobile I might be looking into this one right now, but I’m past it now.

  • RSA

It will be 4G and if I remember correctly have a dual core processor so not old new phone kinda dumb coming from Iphone 4 user cuz not a while lot different from Iphone 3GS. BB’s are more reliable have better battery and better call quality than most smart phones so maybe your retarded.

Have you reached your 12th birthday yet?

I should clarify my question. I tend to assume only 12-and-unders favor the insult “retarded.”

I completely agree with you! BlackBerry offers such a compelling device from a hardware and OS perspective. I’m really tired of the way some people so readily dis on RIM. They’ve obviously never experienced the OS limitations of a iPhone or the unbelievable glitchyness of android powered devices. Or they’re just lying to themselves. Either way I’m stoked from some refreshed offerings from RIM. I really think between the bold 9900 and the torch 9860 we’re gonna see a whole new BlackBerry craze!

      • Rush8220

Doubt it, if rim would produce something like the playbook in a handset they might have something to brag about until then I’m staying away

Too little too late. Both my wife and I have used BBs for many many years. We were deeply dissapointed when RIM brought out the first Touch phone on Verizon or was it AT&T (rather than Tmo). Since the iPhone is still not 4G we are planning for an Android device – HTC or Samsung with 4G. My wife’s company now allows any phone for corporate use.

Well no front facing camera I am not getting it. Iknow someone will get mad at me for saying that honestly I don’t care. Yes I’m 30 years old and I want a phone with a front facing camera. Because all my coworkers have a phone with a front facing camera. Either they have android devices or iphone 4′s. Nobody has a bb were I work. I work in a postal office I know it may not be the kind of job that requires a bb that’s why nobody has one. The only reason I want a phone with a front facing camera is because everyone were I work are always doing video calls with this app called tango. And they have a lot of fun I wanna be part of that fun. I currently have a droid x. Who says people in there 30′s can’t have fun with a front facing camera on a phone? Also I’m a man so usually im horny most of the time so naughty video calls with my friends would be another fun thing I. wuld do. They all do that I’m the only one missing out on the fun. So hopefully t-mobile or Verizon get the Samsung galaxy s2!! Cuz I really want that phone it has everything I want. Noticed how I didn’t mention at&t? Well cuz it sukz over here in san fransisco. So yea..

I am very excited about this and the 9900 but I read about ithem and actually know the additions and capabilities.  Weird right?  No problem though, you seem suited for this position.

Nothing’s wrong w/ Blackberry. My only nag w/ them is the memory (my cousin has a blackberry, the original curve) & he talks about how it always has to load even when it’s nothing to really load, & the memory of it being so low (he only downloaded a few apps & it was out of space, plus he has a microSD card if that’s any help. Don’t get on me because I don’t use Blackberry’s). Now, you’ll say… well that’s a old Blackberry, true…. but he said his friend has one too, & she has the Torch I believe & it does that, & he said his Auntie’s Blackberry Style does that too. Then, my other nitch is all the apps I conveniently use with Android, that Blackberry doesn’t have, & the broader selection of apps on Android vs. Blackberry. Last, but not least ( I know I said 2, I just thought of something else), I don’t remember any of the new Blackberry’s mentioning a front facing camera. Besides 4G, & the processors on phones, that’s what separates new devices from the old smartphones to me. I love my ffc, I love taking pics of myself, lol. & I will be video chatting all my friends soon when I go away out of state to college (no it’s not just a gimmick, it’s also useful & convenient too). But, other than that Blackberry’s from my experience are very solid. Let’s not pretend Androids don’t have lots of bugs & glitches, & most times we have to root our Androids to get them to run right. I don’t remember Blackberry having to do that.  & let’s not forget the OUTSTANDING battery life on Blackberry’s. Now, I know there are heavy users, but I barely use my Android (& this was on all 5 of the Android’s I had) & I could barely get through a day w/ lite/moderate usage. & iPhones are so basic, it’s so many features they’re missing that they should have (main ex: flash). I will admit iPhone was the blueprint & probably the main reason we have Android, but w/ such huge competition that is Android you’d think iPhone would step it’s game up by now. iPhone to me is the core of what Android was based off of in basic/simple form, w/ just a popular, commercialized device & brand. Just my personal opinion….

Like Microsoft did with WM, RIM needs to seriously revamp and power up their BB line.  After they do that and start putting out 4″+ dual core phones and a large portrait sliders then they will be making a comback but probably a few trots behind WP7.

If BB doesnt produce hard hitting devices by the time New Mango phones come out then it may be too late for a come back afterall.

      • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

I completely agree. I’m just saying right now, Blackberry’s aren’t ‘as bad’ as people are making them out to be. But, they def need to revamp the line, most definitely.

samsung should do the same as well give us the SGS2 also besides sprint and at&t.hopefully in august.

Can’t say I’m excited. BlackBerrys are difficult to use and not as functional as Android or iOS; I’m encouraging my BB-owning friends to buy Droids or iPhones.

  • Manny

Im actually very excited about this. Ive owned two different generations of iphones, an lg shine, an lg xenon, and most recently a galaxy S (and this phone was horrible!) and out of all of them my was the lg shine (which im using now) idk I personally dont need all the fancy crap on my phone as long as i can take pics (with flash), text and answer calls then im ok :) and if this helps im 19 yrs old.

  • Anonymous

Too little, too late. If RIM had done this a year ago, it might have made a difference. I like Berrys, but it’s shenanigans like their AT&T Torch exclusivity deal that made me stop using them, and now I don’t think I’d go back. High quality hardware only gets you so far.

  • DanPhilGray3

What I’d like to know is if T-Mobile really *is* getting the Torch 2 9810. Rumors have been circulating and making the rounds that AT&T will get it in September and T-Mobile will see it in November. Personally, I’d LOVE it! I used a first generation Torch 9800 for work and really wished T-Mo would have rights to it after AT&T’s exclusivity was up; but that didn’t happen. Hopefully this isn’t someone’s idea of a joke, because I’ve got my hope up for the 9810. And with eligibility for an upgrade with-in a few weeks, if this is true, I’m holding-out for it till September.

    • DanPhilGray3

      Sorry — I meant I’ll hold-put till *November* when it’s released. ;-)

      • Cmanning0385

it is launching on ver. on the 28  so there is hope that a release date from tmo maybe MUCH sooner

        • DanPhilGray3

Really? Where did you see that?

It’s not too little, too late. Look at all the smartphones that came out in the past 2 years. New models constantly being released, each better than the next. Why would BB want to play that game. Just wait for the technology to level out and release something top notch.

  • Ken Robinson

If you want a phone with a front facing camera, just get the Iphone or Android. Blackberry isn’t here to be like every other phone on on the market. Blackberries are mad to do exactly what they’re made to do. If you want a app crazy phone, then go for Android or Iphone and quit complaining about something you might not even purchase. Hence, a Blackberry device. I absolutely hate Iphones and Android phones. I’m a Blackberry user and I have not complained yet.
