T-Mobile Announces 2GB Mobile Broadband Plan

While we had plenty of indication this would see a formal announcement today, T-Mobile has gone and made it official. Announcing via Twitter the addition of the $39.99 2GB Mobile Broadband plan to their data lineup. As a reminder the $39.99 plan receives an additional 20% off is added to an existing voice account. T-Mobile links to their Mobile Broadband page via Twitter but as of this writing, the $39.99 plan isn’t listed yet.

Good thing I jumped at their 79.99 plan with unlimited talk text and 2gb data, 39 for 2gb is a bit much.

I’m glad there weren’t very many comments about the cell phone web plan, seeing as how this is for mobile broadband, meaning things that are connected to your computer. I think the previous commenters need to be more active with reading before posting, however, it was stopped short @ around 9 or 10 idiots.

Gee, my current unlimited data plan with T-Mobile is $25 per month. My wife’s Virgin Mobile plan is 300 minutes AND unlimited text/data for $25 per month. There’s no way I’m paying $40/month for only 2GB through T-Mobile.

As the posters before me noted, I am also glad I have an older plan with the $30.00 for 5gb limit, imho these latest data plans seem to be worse then the ones before.

Its funny cuz people were bitching bout atts 2gbplan an also atts 2gb plan is cheaper! Its like 25 bucks ,now t-mobile does the same thing and at a higher price lol good thing I dont have t-mobile .

    • Anonymous

Ahh, the wisdom of tmo news commentators. Go over those 2 GB on AT&T and you will find out how cheap it is. Or try tethering and AT&T will slap you with another $20 month. And what are you doing here anyway, find a AT&T site and post there.

      • Janethhunny

Dud ur effin stupid I never mentioned I had att I live in canada I have rogers so u can suck it :)

        • Bratty

Then why are you bitching about ATT? Maybe you not the smart one here since you done understand what this plan is about?

        “led painted”

I wish I had LED painted toys when I was growing up. I just had boring GI Joes and Micro Machines that didn’t even light up…

That is the most ridiculous pricing strategy ever. MORE money for LESS data.Yeah, that makes sense….

    • Anonymous

This is not a data plan on the smart phone, this is for webconnect. You really are a babydoll.

is this 4g/3g or just 3g?

  • smylax

You guys are idiots. This isn’t a data feature. This is a mobile broadband plan for tablets, websticks, etc not a feature for smartphones….

    • Iqgirl

      Wow thank you smylax

    2GB is an insult

  • Ktwist

Man these prices really suck, I mean I know its mobile and not home internet but damn. The past plan for 5GB with a voice plan is ALREADY $39?? If you don’t have a voice plan then its $49, I would pay the extra $10 for 3 more GB if I was a customer. I’m starting to feel the slow creep of At&t rubbing off on good ole Magenta. I work for T-mobile and these prices are not competitive what-so-ever.

Data customers only (No Voice Plan):

    T-mobile 4G HSPA+ 2GB –> $39.99 vs Verizon 4G LTE 3GB –> $35.00

    T-Mobile 4G HSPA+ 5GB –> $49.99 vs Verizon 4G LTE 5GB –> $50.00

    T-Mobile 4G HSPA+ 10GB -> $ 84.99 vs Verizon 4G LTE 10GB -> $80.00

There is NOTHING competitive about T-Mobiles prices for DATA and I have know idea how they expect for reps to sell data that is slower and in less coverage areas for the same or more expensive pricing? I know Verizon has $10 overage charges per GB over but I would take that over throttled speed any day, hell that’s why they have built in usage meters. I can’t be the only one that feels this way?

You’re right- the plans aren’t super competitive, but t-mobile is clearly aiming at their current customer base for their mobile broadband market. That is why they give a SIGNIFICANT 20% discount to voice customers.

      T-mobile 4G HSPA+ 2GB –> $32.99 vs Verizon 4G LTE 3GB –> $35.00— still not good

      T-Mobile 4G HSPA+ 5GB –> $39.99 vs Verizon 4G LTE 5GB –> $50.00— very competitive

      T-Mobile 4G HSPA+ 10GB -> $ 68.00 vs Verizon 4G LTE 10GB -> $80.00– very competitive

Verizon’s LTE footprint is not very spread out nationwide so far- and I wouldn’t put it past big red to jack up their rates with a 4G premium sometime in the future- and you can bet magenta will find a way to bring theirs down.

Actually they aren’t half bad, from what I understand. They have hidden Free unlimited 3G.  the limit is only on 4G speeds. 3G speeds on t-mobile can be up to 7mbps, unlikely 1mbps more likely, and 4G is only 7-21 mbps. I haven’t tested mobile broadband out, but from what i see it’s not half bad. I am tempted to drop my 12mbps 60$ per month Cable internet to get this. They also have a 200MB 4G unlimited 3G for 29 per month

The price is simply stupid especially for tablet users:
AT&T: $25 for 2GB (zero contact if you bring in your own device).
    T-Mobile: $40 for 2GB.
    Shame on you, T-Mobile.
