Radio Shack To Sell Samsung Galaxy S 4G For $149.99

Not content to let Walmart have all the early pricing fun, we just received this upcoming ad for the Samsung Galaxy S 4G courtesy of Radio Shack. Coming in at $149.99 it’s just a few pennies more than Walmart so it’s going to come down to choice between third party retailers or wait till T-Mobile unveils their own pricing.

Will there be trade in deal for old vibrant??

    • LTD

probably up to $150 trade in value

probably up to $150 trade in value

    • Anonymous

That would be the right thing to do! I doubt it tho! F#@k you Samsung! Never again!

  • Aerofanbig

As we saw with the old Vibrant, MT4G and G2….you’ll have to go 3rd party to get the best deal. Tmo will stick customers for 250$ most likely, possibly with a 50$ rebate. And when you call up loyalty to ask why old customers have to pay more, they just say sorry thats the way it is. Walmart, Target, Amazon, Firefly, Radio Shack…it was the same deal around the holidays. 50-175$ cheaper then actually buying FROM Tmo, and only for new contracts. Renewals through those 3rd parties will probably be like 200$

    • Vjballa21

3rd party dealers can charge less for phones because they stick you on two contracts with two termination fees making it nearly impossible to leave. T-mobile direct just has one termination fee. Think about that before paying 50.00 less for a phone and then when you need to leave you have to pay 400.00 in termination fees. You also run the risk of unexperienced employees messing with your account. You get what you pay for at direct dealers like Walmart.

      • SayWhaa

there are now 2 terminaition fees dealing with National Retail stores(walmart, radio shack, mall kiosks) u are subjected to the same terms of conditions as corporate locattions.

      • joey barone

if they r going to stay with t mobile then it wouldnt be a problem now would it? and not all tmobile dealers r unexperienced however some may be dishonest but that is a differnt story which applies to people at direct also not just dealers.

        • Vjballa21

tell that to the people that get their phones from walmart and have a problem and have to go to an actual t-mobile store to fix it. tell that to the thousands of people that move to a different home and dont have adequate service and they have to terminate their service and now they owe the dealer a couple hundred dollars and t-mobile a couple hundred dollars. I didnt say all dealers are unexperienced but i can tell you corporate employees receive more training and are more knowledgeable than them. Actual t-mobile employees have to deal with people who thinks dealers are just as good as actual retail stores and are proven terribly wrong on their bills. We see these EVERYDAY. It’s the same as cars would u rather buy your car from Carmax or a sheisty small car dealer on the side of the road?

Well so long as you do the research on the network and don’t plan on leaving in 2 years what is the issue? plus a year for full upgrade is all good. Walmart has always been good for me. As for radioshack and 14-day return window forget about it. T-Mo or walmart or amazon are the only ways to go

        • Vjballa21

I don’t think anyone signs a two year contract and “plans” on leaving. Circumstances change for people. Maybe they move or just can no longer pay their bills, Divorce, separation, etc etc. Any amount of research cannot prepare you for things like that. I work at a t-mobile outside a walmart and let me tell you most of them do not know what the heck they are doing. Ive seen people get screwed so bad on their bills. Also if you have a problem with your phone they are not willing to help or have any idea what to do. Most of my customers after I’ve helped them from terrible experience at walmart are glad to pay just a little bit more for the extra help and service they get from my store. BTW most of our stores pricematch anyways.

Great article, except wish you had the fine print of the deal.
What is the price out the door and bottom line 2 year cost for:
    New customers?
    Existing customers out of contact?
    Existing customers on contract?

    • LTD

149.99 for new .. probably 199.99 or 249.99 for upgrade at radio shack …NO Mail-in Rebates.

If you already bought the vibrant , save your money …this is what samsung does ..they suck us in .
wait for the lg optimus 2x or htc pyramid

Samsung has always sucked when it comes to phone updates ….stay away

    • http://twitter.com/FR35HM1NDZ Jamille Browne

Updates should be a non-issue and plus they had alot of phones to provide the update to its not only a t-mo phone. They have to provide for original galaxy S’s and they did good with updates actually just took a bit longer for USA to receive because after all we were among the last to actually have the device but first in america. The vibrant was a great device. The only true issue it had was slight lag and a not so great gps for some, of which the gps issue is a hardware issue where people could actually had used their warranty to get a working one..

Dude your living in a fantasy world.I returned my vibrant and got a refurb with more problems. Updates not a issue with samsung you got to be high.

      • g333nj

NON-ISSUE ? First off Samsung stated the galaxy s ( Vibrant ) would receive 2.2 FROYO in August , then Sept , then Oct , then NOV, then Dec , then Jan ..OK OK now its FEB and we got it. But not by an OTA update , you have to download it from KIES. What about people who don’t have a computer? what about the GPS still not up to par ? How about the text messaging problem now? ( I send a text to my wife and my friend from work gets it). What about all the LAG on the phone? How about the numerous times customers have complained to SAMSUNG and were ignored? The List goes on & on buddy…….. Stay away from Samsung

    • Getreal

You are right on. I wouldn’t buy another samsung product if they paid me. Would rather have a Blackberry or iphone. At least those companies provide updates.

U know what I don’t like is the fact they charge an upgrade fee when u get a new phone y don’t they just be upfront and change the price of the phone? I know the Perception 200 sounds better than 220 or what ever it turns out to be. Is there a upgrade charge if u don’t sign a contract. If not y not if ur still upgrading.

Sad to say Dave its going to be 250$ 50$ MIR….T-mo doesnt like to do deep discounts. Third parties are always after that second termination fee. Keep in mind that fee comes if you change your PLAN, ADDRESS, REMOVE A FEATURE or CANCEL! READ THE FINE PRINT!

    • scooby

Not true at all. There is no additional term fee for signing up at Walmart. They can afford to price so aggressively because all they are trying to do is break even on the sale. They make all their money on residuals that Tmo pays monthly. Shut your face retail employee ;-)

  • Xenafanatic

i would only buy from the carrier stores itself, just for the insurance. my cousin got a phone at radio shack and the insurance didn’t cover anything. my phone, not matter what is covered, i might have to pay a small price but it beats paying full retail for the same phone. might as well buy a new one.

Or you could just get insurance from geeksquad they will cover you for accidental damage just not stolen phones like t-mo but they are priced the same.

      • Farhan

Better yet to use SquareTrade. I’ve used them a couple of times and they have excellent response time and service.

      • Guest

T-Mo does cover accidental damage, as well as lost or stolen and its shipped over night once the claim is filed.

i have a question that i want someone to please answer. if this cost $599.99 off contract, then how much do you think the galaxy s 2 will cost off contract? i am interested in the galaxy s2 but not if its going to cost too much. any ideas? (remember its a dual core phone)

    • Farhan

Remember, the current retail price of this phone won’t be $599.99 three months from now when dual core phones come out. It’s retail price will probably drop to around $450 to make room for dual core phones at the $600 range.

It would be safe to say that the Galaxy S2 won’t cost more than $600-$650 retail since the Motorola Atrix 4g will retail at $600.

Radioshack can suck it. They never sent gift cards out to the original Vibrant owners.

    • sami

i agree. i pre-ordered my vibrant from them too, and i never got my gift card. well played

  • Getreal

They could give me $100 to take it and I wouldn’t buy it. Samsung stinks. The only thing this phone launch is going to do is set a whole new group of people into the “I hate samsung camp”.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6T4RPNXBT2CWUJ663LEWTN6BOQ mX

The specs on it are good, but it’s still Samsung. It’s best to wait and see if the HTC Pyramid can atleast match or surpass the specs on this.

  • GoPackers

David – I’m still holding out for the perfect phone that works for me. Do you think T-mobile will come out with an android phone that has a front facing video camera, 4G, wifi calling, a fast processor AND a physical keyboard? I know I’m asking for a lot but if they are releasing 25 smart phones this year do you think that at least one of them could be with these specs?? hopefully soon?

    • Tortionist

The MT4G has all of those except for the slide out keyboard, which isn’t nearly as fast or fun as having SWYPE.

      • Petey

I don’t know but I dislike using swype lol. Its annoying.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_3WQPARD3YB33SCAXNQP2SNMWWA Anthony

YEA BUT SWITCH THE SPEED TO ACCURACY IT BETTER
          IF U HAVENT ALREAY

    • Farhan

They’ll probably release a T-mobile G3 in the fall with those specs.

Usually their MyTouch (MyTouch 3g Slide) and G series phones have a physical keyboard so I would expect the next versions of those to have at least the specs you’re looking for. Wouldn’t expect anything in the H1 2011 though.

    • Anonymous

The SideKick 4G is suppose to have those specs.

      • GoPackers

Thats what I was thinking but I really hope the design is cool.. Man I am picky!

For me the best fone tmobile got is htc g2!! Gingerbread please!!
