T-Mobile myTouch 3G Users Receiving Android 2.2 Froyo Beginning Tomorrow

Note: Only original myTouch 3G devices will receive the update at this time. myTouch 3G 3.5mm jack, myTouch Fender Limited Edition, and myTouch 3G Slide devices will receive Froyo at a later date.

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard anything regarding the myTouch3G and future Android updates. A lot of you owners have moved on to bigger and better things but for those of you still holding on, or holding out for something better than I hope I have your attention. Beginning tomorrow, that’s right, TOMORROW T-Mobile and HTC will begin an OTA rollout of Android 2.2

The update includes a number of benefits, including a new home screen experience, Exchange email integration and the addition of the Faves gallery.

The update should run between now and October 25th as a staggered rollout so don’t be upset (yeah I know the comments will show otherwise) if you don’t receive it tomorrow. This is great news for myTouch3G owners and I’m sure this will breathe plenty of new life into your phone!

Primary Improvements Included with This Update

•            New Fully Integrated Exchange Client

◦            Improved security: Numeric pin and alpha-numeric password options have been added to unlock the device. Exchange administrators can enforce password policy across devices.

◦            Remote wipe: In the event a device is lost or stolen, Exchange administrators can remotely reset the device to factory defaults to secure data.

◦            Exchange calendars: Exchange calendars are now supported in the Calendar application.

◦            Auto-discovery: With just a user name and password users can easily set up and/or sync an Exchange account (available for Exchange 2007 and higher).

◦            Global Address Lists look-up: This functionality is now available in the E-mail application, enabling users to auto-complete recipient names from an entire directory.

•            Faves ◦            Faves Gallery gives customers quick access to the 20 people who matter most.

◦            Customers can scroll through their Faves Gallery and instantly see the most recent communication from their top 20 Faves – calls, texts, emails, instant messaging, and social networking updates – and respond in a flash.

•            New Home Screen Features

◦            Home screen Tips widget provides tips on how to configure the home screen with shortcuts and widgets and how to make use of multiple home screens.

◦            Market widget lets you keep on top what’s hot on Android Market, showing featured apps right on the home screen.

◦            Live wallpapers are available on Android Market, such as Aquarium, Google Maps and many others.

◦            Phone, All Apps and Browser now have dedicated shortcuts on the home screen, making it easy to access them from any of the five home screen

panels.

•            Improved Communication Features

◦            Gmail app enhancements:

◦ ◦ ◦ ◦

Include quoted text from the body of an e-mail message Navigate quickly using on-screen previous/next buttons Identify e-mails using colored labels See inline images in messages

  • BeachinAndroid

I have one question for anyone who knows. If you manually download it, will Tmobile still send you a promt that will ask you to download it? Will you have to do it a second time?

    • mssamanatha

I called yesterday and they said you have to wait for the prompt that unless you don’t get it by November then they can send it to you.

Got my text a week ago and still no update. Is the manual instal on xda a modded version or the offical version that tmobile and google are sending out.

    • Jomar

It is the one Tmobile and Google are sending out it has Myfaves included

    • johnny johnson

Go to community an do manual update really easy

      • Strnbrat

where is the community to do the manual update?

  • jeeper82

Ok. Not knocking on the guys over at xda but but i don’t think the manual update they have up is actually 2.2. Some Features are missing like the news and weather app and voice control and live wallpaper. All things that were listed on tmobiles forum. If this the official update then we are being lied to by tmobile. Going back to 1.6 and waiting till the 31st. Then calling tmobile.

Got a system update yesterday night and its now on my handset (5 weeks after the T-mobile update notification message). A big improvement in speed and look, multitouch, much improved gallery, car use screen, 5 panel screens (much more than you realistically need), improved camera application and better overall UI design. Its worth the wait – Basically breathes new life into my handset which was beginning to becoming very slow to the point of being unresponsive in v1.6.

  • Cpuma2089

I got the update last night as well, Only problem is that my email does not work, I went to check it and it gives me an update accounts message with my hotmail account listed below, any help out there?

Mine updated this morning, and now I keep getting a message that my Contacts can’t update because there isn’t enough space on the phone. I deleted many apps, and those I didn’t I moved to my SD card. There is MORE than enough space for this to happen. Now I can’t see any of my contacts. Anyone else have this happen? What can I do?

Anyone else having issues with the camera and photo gallery? I cannot access my images or use the camera following the build installation.

  • Sutabi

I received mine 5 days ago (Got the text on Oct. 17th), I was one of the few to have pre-ordered so I suppose I am first in line? Overall the update feels like I have a new phone. However I was getting the same lag in 1.6 and drove me nuts. I had Google Voice enabled, so I disabled Google Voice, uninstalled and the shear speed up of 2.2 is just amazing. The UI is so much more responsive. As a big note, live wallpapers do not work, no option to use them, You can download them though. I was blown to see this phone had multi touch! It only works in the browser and photo gallery, but damn amazing. Also get 5 home screens instead of 3 :). The Camera app is a HUGE plus, almost feels like a camera, minus flash :. There is no flash player release by adobe on MyTouch 3G just yet, maybe there will be?

  • kcheek

still haven’t got mine…. getting a little irritated.

  • Stacks

got mine this morning and have had nothing but issues since it updated. cannot access main menu, messaging, email, or pretty much any other app on my phone, also having horrible lag issues and random restarts.

  • Martin

well guys, I received the update a week ago, and let me tell u something, I heard about after the update many application wont work as usual, so I decided reset the phone doing a FACTORY RESET after the update, and the initial setup was totally different, cause it loads the “new android system”, got new programs. Dont worry about the contacts cause it automactly retreives since u have a gmail account with it. all u need to do is reinstall the programs u had on it. so I think that the best way to setup the new android system.

  • Fender_phone

contact tmobile – they may provide you with a new phone.

I have the my touch 3g slide and can not wait to get the new update. My husband got the update on his my touch and it lets you move some of the apps stuff to your memory card. i hate, hate, hate that i am not able to do this. Half of the memory is filled with apps that come on the phone.

I revieved OTA update for my T-Mobile MyTouch 3g Fendor Edition on Sunday and my experience is horrible.
I had a fully functional phone without major issues till Fryo 2.2.1 OTA update. After the update my phone is too slow and freezing. I could not browse in a normal fashion. It is taking more than 5 minute to get a webpage loaded. If you try to go to Android market don’t expect to get any results.

After performing a web search I understand that this is a widespread issue for TMT 3g and I never seen any phone owner saying a positive experience. I need to assume that T-Mobile did not perform any testing before sending this OTA. So what is the solution for unhappy customers. I understand that T-Mobile support does not have any answer and only comment I heard is root the phone and put back 1.6 manually.
Bad state for a company to be challenger.

    • Eleftheriahthanatos83

call tmobile and they will send it to your phopne. if you wait for the ota from htc/google then plan on waiting about 2 months
