T-Mobile myTouch 3G Users Receiving Android 2.2 Froyo Beginning Tomorrow

Note: Only original myTouch 3G devices will receive the update at this time. myTouch 3G 3.5mm jack, myTouch Fender Limited Edition, and myTouch 3G Slide devices will receive Froyo at a later date.

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard anything regarding the myTouch3G and future Android updates. A lot of you owners have moved on to bigger and better things but for those of you still holding on, or holding out for something better than I hope I have your attention. Beginning tomorrow, that’s right, TOMORROW T-Mobile and HTC will begin an OTA rollout of Android 2.2

The update includes a number of benefits, including a new home screen experience, Exchange email integration and the addition of the Faves gallery.

The update should run between now and October 25th as a staggered rollout so don’t be upset (yeah I know the comments will show otherwise) if you don’t receive it tomorrow. This is great news for myTouch3G owners and I’m sure this will breathe plenty of new life into your phone!

Primary Improvements Included with This Update

Is this for the myTouch 3G Slide users as well?

    • Kickstar13

This is for the original myTouch 3G users only.

      • dethduck

Kickstar, what is the source of this information? Is it a rumor, reliable or otherwise, or is it official?

        • David, Managing Editor

I just posted a picture to validate since so many seemingly doubt the info!

      • dethduck

@David, no offense, it’s just that we’ve been riding on rumors of an update since literally last november. And there have been a LOT of rumors with not so much as a peep from T-Mo themselves until the June 100% You! issue.
It’s hard not to be skeptical.

  • Serg

Impressive. Wasn’t expecting an update to the original. Very nice, and I’m sure the remaining original Mytouch users will be VERY happy with a 2.2 update…where’s my mytouch slide 2.2 update though =[

  • blazinn831

    YAY FINALLY FOR MY FENDER

    • blazinn831

      NO MORE CRAPPY 1.6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Not Really

NOPE, YOU’LL STILL HAVE CRAPPY 1.6 FOR THE MOMENT. ONLY THE ORIGINAL MY TOUCH 3G WILL GET THE OTA.

      • archie

Check above not for Fender only original MyTouch

      • danimals14

I am running Froyo with CyanogenMod on my fender. It works great! It took all of 5 minutes to update it.

      • blazinn831

orginal post said for mytouch 3g… did not say no update for the fender.. now a hour later it says for the orginal only.. so i did check above archie, anyway to danimals i would love to have my phone rooted but im tech savy enough to do that, probably brick my phone if i tryed LOL

    • shawn1224

      not quite yet

  • vibrantfan

figures, left mt3g for the vibrant, and vibrant has not rolled froyo out yet

    • grazapin

Haha, I bet that was completely unexpected. You can still be happy that your Vibrant is like 4x as fast as the MyTouch 3G, even with 2.1.

    • JakeMG

Ha! Me, too. Literally just switched last week. Still, the Vibrant on 2.1 > Original MT3G running (probably modified) 2.2.

    • rod p

me too. smh. but i still have my mytouch guess ill go back to play with it for a couple of days…

  • Will this include Mytouch 3G Slide as well?

    • XfooYen

      Yes

      • The Hammer

No it will be release at a later date

      • archie

        No

  • frank v

But what about the Mytouch slide??

    • squiggleslash

The Slide will be updated in two weeks, just like when it first came out it was going to get Froyo in two weeks…

      • pimpstrong

        LOL

    • Chris

Sorry, they have to fix all your espresso crap, then you’ll get 2.2. Look how long it took them to give VANILLA 2.2 to the MT3G…you’re gonna be waiting a while

  • J-Hop2o6

myTouch 3G before the Slide? weird, even tho i don’t own either phone.. but this is good news for the myTouch 3G users.. i thought Tmo will max it out at 2.1, and the Slide will of course be 2.2 eventually.

    • J-Hop2o6

oh.. and i wonder if this is stock 2.2 or Espresso 2.2.. hmm

      • pimpstrong

Good ?. Probly the Espresso skin and probly the same skin that comes with the myTouch HD.

  • Holiday

    alright!! finally!!

  • Bigmerf

    wow, im shocked!

  • Krylon360

Now, this bigger question. Is this for the Original MT3G, or 1.2+?

    • XfooYen

The poster says existing mt3g phones, not just the mt slide. So I would say that ALL MyTouch phones will get a custom version of 2.2 depending on hardware specs.

  • david

I cant imagine still having the original MyTouch. But I am happy for those people who still own it.

    • 16309A

What can’t you imagine?? Some, like me still have lots of time on thier contract!

      • JakeMG

All you have to do, if you’ve been a customer for a few years, is call the retention department to upgrade early.

    • JackMatt

yeah I would not if I could have gotten a early upgrade on a N1. Now I’m going to have to wait for HD.

    • Rilesman

Can’t imagine that some of us don’t have money to throw around.

    • Evan

People don’t like to pointlessly waste money on new phones ever few months, believe it or not.

  • sorandkairi

YEEEAAAAHHHHHHH NOW I CAN SALE MINE! LOL!

  • XfooYen

That’s pretty cool. I guess I’ll un-root my phone for a while to see how this works out. Once source is released, it’ll make this line of phones last another few months for me (just in time to buy the MyTouch HD)

    I can’t believe I’m firs…nah, I can’t do it.

  • dannytmobile

what about the mytouch slide. i think it deserves an update as well

  • LuvMyGreenRobot

Good job, T-Mobile! Finally! Better late than never. Now the poor Cliq users need that update.

  • Dford

Does this just include the mytouch3g and its variants ie Fender, 1.2 and the slide?

    • XfooYen

read the poster. ALL MyTouch phones. No phones left behind.

      • 16309A

Both of you need to reread the article–ONLY THE ORIGINAL FOR NOW!!!!

      • dethduck

Read the article. Only the original myTouch3G. Not the Fender, v1.2 3.5mm version or Slide. Those come later. The “poster” is just the article in the 100% You! magazine myTouch owners got from T-mobile back in June announcing that these phones were gonna get updated.

      • XfooYen

…which means all mt3g phones will get the update, one model at a time, but that still guarantees that all phones will be getting the update. Obviously they can’t push the same update for four different phones concurrently. It will be consecutive. As soon as the orig mt3g is finished, they’ll roll out the next model, and so on.

    • BrianH

As David noted immediately below the pic in his story above:

Note: Only original myTouch 3G devices will receive the update at this time. myTouch 3G 3.5mm jack, myTouch Fender Limited Edition, and myTouch 3G Slide devices will receive Froyo at a later date.

  • XfooYen

I wonder if they can implement wifi calling too? That’d be cool on cool crime.

    • sorandkairi

wifi tethering is more like it!

  • jesus

this pi**es me off!! i get a g2 worth 5bills and an outdated mytouch crap gets 2.2 no fair..
but hey good luck mytouch trying to even catch up with froyo ur hardware is crap and wont work slow pos i bet

    • XfooYen

      Ummm, the G2 has 2.2

    • sorandkairi

why are you b!tchin to began with… lie Xfoo said the G2 has Froyo…. hating on hardware……… for what!? i dont get it. did you not want them to receieve the update!

    • Joe

Jesus your a tool, you have the G2 and don’t even know it already has 2.2. Dumbass

  • jesus

    im WET!

    • dethduck

Did you forget you could walk on water again?

  • An

When is it coming to the vibtant.i wonder how fast the mytouch slide well be after the update?im piss that loss my mytouch 3g

  • DROID.KING

DAVID IT WOULD BE NICE IF JUST SPECIFY A LITTLE, KNOWING THEY ARE LOT OF MODELS UNDER “MYTOUCH”

    • archie

Did you read the article? It says original MyTouch only, in bold even

      • Actually, the article says, “Coming soon, we plan to update existing myTouch 3G phones–not just our new Slide–to the latest software version of Android 2.2.” I would assume that means original and Slide….. Right?

    • Frank

God forbid he would expect you to…… I don’t know…… Fing read you tool!

    • Cupcake

WOW…seriously?!! The article clearly states that it is only for the original MT3G ONLY! The others will be updated at a later time…Fender, Slide, 3G w/3.5.

I’m for one am very happy. Just upgraded to G2 but will still use the MT3G. And it has not been upgraded since it came out so all you whinners complaining about the other MT devices..gee..come on!!

      • sorandkairi

“And it has not been upgraded since it came out so all you whinners complaining about the other MT devices..gee..come on!!”

Now i’m not too sure that I’m completely understand this statement… because the mytouch has been upgraded since it came out…. from… Cupcake… to Donut! Again, i’m not sure what you are meaning to say so…

  • Jazz

3.5mm at a later time? Wonder how long that will take.

  • ricardo

    YES!!!!

    • ricardo

oh…wait…wth, “Note: Only original myTouch 3G devices will receive the update at this time. myTouch 3G 3.5mm jack, myTouch Fender Limited Edition, and myTouch 3G Slide devices will receive Froyo at a later date.” WHEN????

  • DROID.KING

    TAKE IT BACK

  • sorandkairi

Hopefully they also installed apps to sd

  • mike

Didn’t read anything about flash compatible,,, so does it come with flash upgrade???

    • Chaoscentral

You will never see flash on any myTouch phones other than the new myTouch since you need a cortex a8 based cpu. All of the other mytouch phones are running an arm11 cpu. Much too slow

  • Betcha still can’t tether like the Nexus One can.

    • Frank

I have tethered my G1, Cliq and a friends mytouch. Oh yeah shouldn’t forget about my Vibrant. N1 bad ass phone but really if you know where to look you can tether without rooting. YOur comment is not really valid!

  • Yyevo

    About freaking time!

  • squiggleslash

This gives you some idea of what the stock non-G2 Froyo will be. No mention of either tethering or UMA, alas, two of the major features I want on my Slide.

CyanogenMod gives you the first. Wonder if the Cyanogen people will find a way to get us the latter once the G2 version is out?

  • dethduck

While great to FINALLY see this(and I’ll believe it when I see it), it still won’t keep me from upgrading to the myTouch HD in a month.

    • sorandkairi

      me either!

  • mrjoeyloke

This great! You think a port of this will end up on the g!? I’ll be all over it!
Now they need the vibrant and slide please ; )

    • mrjoeyloke

On the g1 i meant! Lol

      • dethduck

Already posted a thread on Cyanogen forums to see if they were going to incorporate this into CM6, they said ayup.
        http://goo.gl/txfo

  • LarryH

they only did this to make the mytouch line look better for when the mytouch hd comes out the whole line of device can be looking pretty good… to bad the G2 rock

  • CrazyAssLatino

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rilesman

    I am happy….so so happy.

  • JackMatt

OMG its about time…. now I better get it at midnight tonight! I have had this thing to long (pre-order from a G1) to be on 1.6 any longer! And I was thinking of skipping on T-Mo cause of it!

  • XfooYen

My only question is…Who still has an unrooted MyTouch 3G on 1.6 capable of receiving the OTA? I WANT MANUAL DOWNLOAD!!!!

    • I do…

    • pimpstrong

I never figured out how to root it.

      • Tim

There’s an app on the market that allows you to root by pressing one button, Universal androot. You can even unroot with one button.

        http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Universal_Androot

      • Tim

Sorry, the app isn’t on the market, but if you follow the link it provides step by step instructions on how to download the app via your PC and install the app on your device.

      • pimpstrong

Thanx but with the update finally coming out I won’t be rooting it anyway.

      • JakeMG

There’s an app in the market called “Universal Androot.” You download that, launch it, then click the button. Rooted. Same process for unroot. Might still be worthwhile if the 2.2 update doesn’t include native wifi tether. I was running CM6.0 on my old MyTouch, and it disappointed me.

  • AH-HA!!! FINALLY! Made my friggin’ day! PLUS a new Sons of Anarchy tonight (sigh) life is complete!

  • pimpstrong

Why is there so many people that cannot read the details of this article???

Anyway T-Mobile you have just restored the lil bit of faith that I have lost in them. This is gonna make my woman reeeeal happy cuz she doesnt want a super phone, she just wants the phone she paid for to function properly and more efficiently

    • MattB

Not sure if it’s entirely a case of not reading the article… I guess my question is where in the actual release (pic above) does it say that there will be a delay for the other MyTouch devices?

      • pimpstrong

The pic is an old announcement stating that they will in fact get updated. I’m sure the info that the others will be delayed came today packaged with the info that it will start tomorrow.

      • dethduck

That’s what I’m wondering, I don’t want to get too worked up and find out it’s just a rumor the article’s author heard from a friend whose friend is a manager of a T-Mobile store.

I want to know the legitimacy of the source of this information.

  • Henry

and i didn’t think i was going to see this day come! this will help me hold out until the mytouch HD comes out….

  • Tim

My MyTouch is rooted and has cyanogen mod 5.0.8 running. To get the OTA update I would have to unroot and do a nandroid backup to the original 1.6 ROM, correct?

    Thanks in advance

    • JakeMG

      Correct.

  • dethduck

Out of curiosity, what is the source of this information?

  • colfern

Great News about time!! Does this mean we get Swype with the update?

  • colfern

Is swype included in the update?

  • anarkae

    I’m sooooo happy!!!!
    I’m crying

  • Hi guys.. but which version will receive the upgrade?

    • dethduck

Only the original version released back last August, the other versions will come later.

      • Craigers

It came out in June of last year. I had it on day one. :-)

  • realplaya

The big ? is, is adobe flash coming with this update, if not I’ll keep my phone rooted

    • dethduck

No, that will not install on anything less than a snapdragon processor, you can find that out if you root and install CM6 or some other froyo rom, it will let you download it but won’t let you install it.

  • deraildoax

Wow. I’m surprised they finally got around to it. I was just thinking yesterday when I stopped by Bestbuy. I can’t believe the lifespan on that phone. While the Droid had like 7 months? :)

  • JustMike

“No phones left behind. That’s our pledge.”

I have to wonder how serious they are about this pledge, considering TMO and the manufacturer can also just decide that a phone is “not capable” of the upgrade and abandon it. It would be nice to see more effort to not just have updates, but have them available in a TIMELY manner.

    We shall see..

  • J

    no Swype?

  • Barry

Finally I must say i was starting to think that T-mobile lied and there was no 2.2 in sight for the MT3G users but this is definitely a pleasant surprise. i may have to unroot to see what it’s like or wait until a dev mods it. Sweet T-mobile on a roll. :-)

  • Dytboy

Just when I upgrade to a G2 from the mt3g they pull this stunt. So if I unroot my phone and go back to cupcake on my mt3g can I still get the update? Just curious

    • kyle

Yes. Too bad us g1 guys never got the update…

      • Matt

The G1 is NOT getting Froyo (from the carrier, atleast). I thought this was pretty well documented?

      • pantlesspenguin

Matt – fail @ reading comprehension?

    • anthonyabsolute

yes i called t-mobile and told them i have cupcake (unrooted) but i told them i reset my phone and that i have 1.5 cupcake again and they told me the update goes by the imem number and that if your running 1.5 you’ll still get the 2.2 froyo update and you’ll also get the 1.6 donut also so just beware if you get the 2.2 before the 1.6 not to update that becuz it till port back to 1.6

      • DytBoy

Thanks i appreciate it now if i get froyo on the mytouch 3g i can sale it or just keep it for back up

    • Me

      Thank the heavens for XDA!!

Without them, my phone would be forever waiting.

Android 2.2 on the HD2 is sweeeeet! Giggity!

    • pantlesspenguin

What “stunt”??? Yes, I’m sure they waited for YOU SPECIFICALLY to change phones, & then pull the rug right from under you & release 2.2 for mytouch.

      *eyeroll*

Besides, G2 comes stock w/ froyo, no?

      • Dytboy

Yeah it does but if I would have got the update a lil earlier I could have waited a lil longer before upgrading that’s all I’m saying

  • Mike

Of course! No Vibrant Froyo STILL!!!! WTF? Might as well hook us Vibrant owners up with Gingerbread, because by the time we get Froyo, it will be outdated!!

    • zapote21

Yeah… I cry for you… You have been waiting for how long? 2 months? wow… I agree with you… I think Im just going to return my Vibrant and go to Verizon/ATT/Sprint!!!

      • pimpstrong

I smell sarcasm at the end there. Faint, but there none the less.

      • that’s not all I smelled in there

      • Mike

On a phone that is $500, they should have dropped the Vibrant with Froyo. Your sarcasm aside, yes, the Vibrant is great with 2.1. However, we all have a right to voice our opinion, so you can take your “crying” elsewhere. Mytouch gets it first cause it is Tmo’s phone. Only reason!

      • DatNizzle

They didn’t drop it wit Froyo yet you bought it anyway? Should have waited for a phone that actually has the features you want. I have a Cliq, I don’t whine about an update, so it’s funny to hear people whine when their phones only been out 2 months.
You are correct, you have the right to whine. But everyone else has the right to call you babies for doing it.

    • Yyevo

Yeah, HTC needs to send an update to you Samsung phone owners!

      • YOOivansetrr

HTC doesn’t make samsung phones … therefore they dont give ANY update to ANY Samsung phone owners.

      • Brandon

I think it was a joke

    • asdf

I received my 2.2 update on my vibrant. maybe its just you?

      • shawn1224

Dude stfu, there is no 2.2 update for the Vibrant.

      • Brandon

That wasn’t 2.2. It was software update for bug fixes.

  • Barry

So this will support live wallpapers ??? Wow I hope it’s smoother than the modded 2.1-2.2 because they’re kinda unusable. They probably modified it to work with the low processor this is really cool either way ?

    • Sined

You won’t get LWP. I’m willing to bank on it.

      • dethduck

It says right in the article that it will get live wallpapers.

      • Barry

It would be a pleasant surprise but I wouldn’t be shocked or disappointed if it didn’t have them.

      • Barry

@dethduck that’s exactly what I exactly looking at.

    • Rilesman

Considering custom wallpapers send mine to a crawl…not sure if I like this idea.

  • anupsetguy

This is pure POPPYCOCK! what about the poor moto cliq users waiting for android 2.ONE!?!?!?!?

    • archie

Don’t hold your breath waiting for Moto

      • dethduck

When it comes to Motorola, if it doesn’t say “Droid” before the name of your phone then don’t bother.

  • speedofsound

Well I guess Gingerbread is not too far behind with these OTA updates for us G2 owners. SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad I waited 7 months of contract for this G2, it completes me.

  • Andrew Gomez

“No phone left behind.” ….the G1.

    • Matt

I’m realitvely sure that quote is reference to the MyTouch line, which the G1 is not a part of.

    • alex

Actually our g1 was lucky to get 1.5 and 1.6.

      • cbowley

        You forgot 1.1

    • Drew

      *Behold II
      *Cliq
      *Cliq xt

Still holding on to my Behold, waiting on Tmobile to pick up a phone by HTC that I can get behind. Maybe something with at least a 4 inch screen, a great cam… and SUPPORT.

      • John

I have been unimpressed by htc’s camera so far, g1, mt3g, and mt slide, all subpar cameras. Each phone had its good sides, just not so much on the camera.

  • Whiner

    We waited the longest.

  • pimpstrong

BTW the Origional myTouch 3G is $FREE.99 at T-mobile.com

  • dubya504

Said the Blind man, we shall see!

  • pimpstrong

“WHAT ABOUT MY BEHOLD II?!?! WAA WAA WAAH” “Fiasco” this and “Debacle” that…. Oh wait there are no more Behold II owners left. Thank God.

    • Drew

      Behold II owner here.. loser

  • Yyevo

Oh, it’s been 14 months since the MyTouch 3g 1.0 came out. The rest of you can chill.

  • themetatron

I’m excited to see it confirmed by an official T-Mobile screenshot

  • Kendall

I have a rooted mytouch.. using cyanogen 6… i backedup my original settings before i chose to root… so can i restore my settings to get the OTA update???????

    • dethduck

      You’ll still have to unroot.

    • Barry

Yea that’s what I was gonna say I’m certain you’d have to unroot your phone to receive the official update or like I said on the previous page you could just wait a little bit for someone to mod the official update which should be much better since it’s suited for the phone and not a general stripped down down version of eclair or froyo.

    • ItsMichaelNotMike

On my rooted phones I have never received OTA notices from T-Mobile.

Moreover, quite a few XDA members have posted that you need to get back to OEM (stock) if you want to get update notices and downloads from T-Mobile.

      • PHONE FREAK

Interestingly when i booted Android, i was recently sent an OTA, on android of course. If that happened, then how do they send these things? Perhaps they thought I was a nexus1?

      • PHONE FREAK

Forgot to say that I’m using an hd2.

  • William

So I used universal androot and I’m running froyo, will I still be able to receive the update?

    • anthonyabsolute

      you’ll have to un-root it

  • NiiDiddy

WOW!!! FINALLY?!?!?!? I couldn’t wait any longer, that is why I got the Vibrant. So the while the waiting game would have ended for me, it begins again with Vibrant. And Kies Mini, usb drivers…etc giving issues with a mere J16 update; how much more Froyo?! Sheesh….

Well I’m happy for those original MT3G customers who held out…kudos…coulda been me. :)

  • Rami

Best news ever! ahhhh… no wonder I keep coming back again and again to Tmonews… thanks David and crew!

    • Dodanafoneium

      I know! I was about to get a G2! Glad i kept the MT3G! I knew this was worth it l! :D

    • phongeek

you too i was at work wondering what i was getting so happy about.. i guess this would be it lol david your a life saver … an we get live wall papers lol

      • Dodanafoneium

I honestly couldnt believe my eyes when i saw this post. I think my heart skipped a beat! :D

      • phongeek

haha me too now im just waiting i had to leave my phone so i dont get the ( check every 5 seconds bug) lol

  • hondavic

I’m just no too convinced it’s going to run 2.2 all that well with it having such a crappy processor.

  • ItsMichaelNotMike

Will this update be provided for my iPhone?

And when will T-Mobile provide me notice to download it?

Please answer my questions immediately, if not sooner.

  • Shannon

My daughter was asking about multitouch recently. Will the update include mutlitouch or is it just a given that it will?

    • Karl

It will, multitouch was built into Android with 2.1.

      • Shannon

That’s what I was thinking. Thanks, Karl!

  • ItsMichaelNotMike

The significance of this event is that T-Mobile is in fact providing frozen yogurt to an older handset.

That’s encouraging and evidences that other Android handsets will eventually get Android 2.2

It seems to also indicate that T-Mobile is listening to its customers (whether polite inquiry, request, rant, howl, cussing, or poking with a pitchfork).

That’s fine news to me. (That T-Mobile is listening, not the cussing.)

  • patrick

figures, my g2 comes in tomorrow. wow haha. oh well i have the mytouch 1.2 anyway. i will be VERY interested to what it is going to look like though

  • Perry

I’ll believe it when I see the update notice on my phone. About time too. I was about to give up on MT3G and start looking for another phone.

  • vec

oh man i lost the my touch 3g about 15 days ago ;( and i wanted this update so bad anybody know how i can track my phone?

  • sorandkairi

I just spoke with a tmobile sale rep and she confirmed, with the ok of here supervisor that this update is real and that the new mytouch hd has a unspecified amount of memory that will be higher than 4 GB avaliable…. both her and her supervisor confirmed the early Nov. (the 3rd is what I asked her and she confirmed) release and slightly alittle more information like (purposed, i guess still not set in stone) pricing and stuff….

    • timmyjoe42

They should have released the update after people upgrade to the HD to increase sales. :P

      • sorandkairi

honestly and unfort….. i agree! although I have a nexus one and a mytouch3g (just unrooted), I still would’ve bought a Mytouch (emerald HD thingy) lol

  • timmyjoe42

2 weeks seems like a really big roll out window.

  • Amanda

I just upgraded to the g2 last week bc my mytouch was outdated. I am going to keep the g2 though. I gave my mytouch to my dad so he will be happy with the update!

  • Kendall

Tho my phone was rooted… before hand i backedup all of my files… i used the universal androot to root my Mytouch. 1 click root app… anyway… my question is if i restore my original settings… go to universal androot and unroot my phone… everything went successful… will i be able to receive the OTA update??

my build number in my seetings is DMD64

    • sorandkairi

      yes

  • jutecat

seriously? who still has that phone?
How much money to you want to put on the fact they will make mytouch 3g slide owners wait 14 months as well for an update.

    • Evan

      I have this phone…..

    • Matt

And as do I. And lots of people I see on a daily basis. Not everyone has the money, or cares enough to buy every new phone that rolls out. I for one, am estatic T-Mobile kept to their word here and is actually updating us to a modern OS.

    • Bob

I still have this phone. There are a lot of us who cannot afford to buy a new phone every year. I guess you must make good money.

    • pantlesspenguin

The phone has only been out for a year & a half. Most people are on 2 year contracts & don’t upgrade until they’re through.

  • tmoemerald

i just unrooted but im stuck on 1.5 and the manual update to 1.6 cant be found anywhere on line do you think it will still get 2.2 even if im on 1.5?

    • Chadastrophic

You’ll probably see 1.6 pushed to your phone in the next couple of days. Happened to me when I couldn’t get back to the stock ROM and had to use 1.5 ROM to get it working again.

  • Rilesman

I am more interested than ever to go to MyTouch HD now that T-Mobile is keeping their promise…I was going to hold out forever if I could.

  • gunfan

Do we have to unroot? Or is there a possibility this rom to be rooted by a knowledgeable person and then we could flash it using recovery?

  • D

Don’t be so happy that we get 2.2 until we actually get it. Even if we get it, the software must be usable. I installed cyanogenmod 6.0 on my mt3g and it ran out of memory very quickly. Considering cyanogenmod 6.0 was based on 2.2, did T-mobile actually fix the memory issue? Think I’ll wait for cyanogenmod 6.1 before I try it again. I am currently using cyanogenmod 5.0.8 currently and it works wonders even if it is based on 2.1

    • Evan

Do you honestly think they would release something that would cripple their devices?

      • You should ask that question to any blackberry 8520 or 8900 user.

  • kendall

I’m using the universal androot app to root my phone. I flashed the cm6… before hand i backed everything up… now since ive heard the news… i restored 1.6 and went into the universal androot app and unrooted my phone… WILL I RECEIVE THE OTA UPDATE?

  • Kent

Meh. Rooted a month or two ago. Don’t see any features listed here that I haven’t already been enjoying since then.

  • Mr LMAO

Man! I love the my touch….to bad it isn’t a WinMo phone….Ta-Hehehe I had to!

  • shawn1224

To be honest I don’t know if it will be worth it for me to wait for this update for the 1.2 (3.5mm jack). My 1.2 is purring like a kitten with CM 6, no glitches, everything works to a tee. Will the stock 2.2 version have JIT compiler? will there still be a loophole for permanent root?.

If and when it does come out for the 1.2, I’ll wait for cyan and his team to chop it up into a nice & tidy rom, that way I won’t lose none of the customizations I’m already used to now.

  • Evan

Awesome! Now I don’t care for a new phone till next July.

  • himynameisAO

In the same boat as a lot of people…switched to the vibrant…love it…but now there’s this, and the talk of gingerbread coming out?!? Is samsung just gonna leap to gingerbread? Nope…i still don’t have the ota update? I couldn’t even find gps directions to another cell phone store…oh well…I’ll just sit at home and watch avatar and play my sims game…FML

  • Mooch

meanwhile, the Cliq/Cliq XT still shows no signs of an update.

    Any comment, Motorola? *crickets*

Thought so. At least HTC sticks to their “no phone left behind” statement.

    Should’ve got the MyTouch instead.

    Fuggggg!

  • Diana

I’ve gone through 3 mytouches all with stupid problems that was replaced by T-mobile with a new mytouch.. AFter the last issue, the store gave me a mytouch 3.5 jack thing but of course a faulty SD card. Which I have yet to get replaced due to lack of Money. so some of my apps don’t work because they use the sd card CAMERA Anyone! which I don’t use the standard camera anyway, I use retro+ anyway, now the updates are coming and I still have to wait after all the crap I’ve put up with just irritates me. At least I can hope by years end I’ll get an update and I could have an update by the end of the month if I didn’t have 3 faulty mytouches to begin with.

    • blazinn831

i feel you, well actually my wife feels you on that one… were awaiting are 3rd replacement phone.. damn t-mobile sometimes :(

      • brokenmelody

I had the same problem with my Fender mt3g. After 2 replacement 16gb minisd cards and 3 replacement phones, I finally just stuck an OLD (like 3 year old)2gb mini sd card in it and its run SMOOTH since April. I think its crappy that for whatever reason they’re shipping phones that are not compatible with the sd cards. I gave the 16gb ds card to my husband, who is using a moto cliq, and it works fine on his phone. So, neither piece was faulty, they just dont work together. Sad, since I have a new baby and take a ton of video. But whatever. Maybe Froyo will fix the issue?

    • mikeyo

never had a problem with my mytouch. its got to be an ID10T error.

      • blazinn831

no your a idiot for even opening your mouth shut up and move on loser.

  • jake

This is awesome news! I make pretty good money, but would like my phone to last the lifetime of my contract. Its just a matter of principle. Sure the mytouch isn’t the most powerful phone out there, but it does what do i need it to do.

  • Robb180t

what the hell!!! that is so not fair WHAT ABOUT THE MYTOUCH SLIDE!!!????

    • 16309A

Why isn’t it fair? The MyTouch has been out a lot longer the the slide. Give it a rest.

  • William

Well looks like ill pick Up a G2 since I don’t know how to unroot my phone and my mt3g is running like crap!

    • Evan

      Google.

    • Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547133

Un-Root your T-mobile MyTouch 3G (and receive back those OTA updates)
      – Download this nbh and rename it to sappimg.nbh (MD5 33D958062CC02BB2CEC157F68621D2FF)
      – Copy sappimg.nbh to your goldcard (a normal SD might also work if you are using an engineerings SPL, give it a try and let us know ).
      – Power-off your device
      – Insert the goldcard (or SD)
      – Power on while holding volume down (of fastboot your device and then press volume down)
      – It should pick up the sappimg.zip and you should be able to flash it.
      – Once the flashing is FULLY finished reboot your phone.

  • Jon

so I could use a little clarification. over the past month ive been trying to run cyanogen on my mytouch and after failed attempts and brick like experiences I have it running 1.6 again. Only problem is the phone thinks its a g1 (when i go to settings about phone and model number it says t-mobile g1). Will I be able to get the update? or do i somehow have to magicaly make it think its a mytouch again

  • phongeek

wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt!!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! X) just when i thought we WERENT getting it.. thats whats up tomorrow i will stay posted to see when it hits .. or if in the same day it starts rolling out .. thats sorta exciting.. still upgrading tho an will just use this mt3g 1st gen as a back up until i get the hd as a back up for my g2 when i get my money together … whoa

  • mytouch

This also means tmobile is planning on selling the original mytouch for a long time..

  • brian

This will be your last update. Your phone is eol, this will new stripped down version of froyo.

  • BlackHawk

Just my luck. I give up on this ever happening, and here it is…and 2.2 even. Im impressed.

    • BlackHawk

Hers a question…Im not currently using this phone, nor do I have an android plan anymore. If I connect to wifi and let the phone just sit, will it get the update or will I have to switch my sim and go back onto my android plan?

  • ManSquito

You have to admit. 2.2 is super fast it even made my old G1 faster. Froyo kicks ass. The G2 destorys world with 2.2 can’t imagine what gingerbread will be like.

  • Do I need 3G for the update, or WiFi would work fine?

  • kevin

When are the 3.5 jack phones geting the update. After returning three of the non 3.5 phones thay gave me the 3.5.Now w t f.

  • 16309A

Well, it’s now tomorrow! Anyone get it yet?? :)

    • sorandkairi

      imma guessing nope!

    • pimpstrong

can’t imagine nobody from this site has it yet. Maybe it will start @ 9am Hawaii time LOL

      • sorandkairi

i havent heard of anyone receiving the update yet….. *shugs shoulders* oh well!

      • Jay

The update probably wont just rollout in a big wave its probably gonna start out small and get bigger

  • Evan

Could always be worse… you could be stuck with a Cliq XT like me. I’m giving it a few more weeks and then I’m just going to flat out buy a new phone – pay that SOB off monthly on my T-Mobile account.

    • Jay

T-mobile says that there will be a 2.1 update for the cliq and cliq XT before November because by then that will be the end of the mytouch 1.5, the cliq and cliq XT

  • sigh

no update yet, any idea when it will begin, has anyone received it, give details…

  • when will the mytouch slide get the update to 2.2

  • when will the mytouch slide get 2.2

  • shawn1224

The likelihood of someone with an older myTouch not already rooted and running cyanogenmod (on this site) that has received the OTA update is very slim. It might take a while before we finally get some actual proof that this update exists. When TMO announces it, they’re normally good for it though.

    • Evan

I bought the phone via pre order and never rooted, still haven’t received the update.

      • Amanda

I also did the preorder and never rooted – no update yet. It’s rolling out through the 25th so it might take a while

      • Evan

You would think, the older your myTouch is, the sooner you get the update.

      • BlackHawk

I got mine within the first 4 days of it being released…nothing yet.

    • 16309A

I got mine just over a year ago and have done nothing to it, no update yet.

    • Toya

I actually received my update at 8am!!! Guess they started in Atlanta first…yay! I’m loving Froyo. It was a message that stated 2 part system update, phone shut down twice, vibrated while downloading, when it restarted i had a screen telling me to backup data with gmail then my lock screen with the lock symbol and the phone symbol for sound! Preorder non-rooted mytouch3g

  • Bmac

    I unrooted for this…?

    • unrooted for what? The OTA will wipe any soft root, in fact it will entirely wipe the phone devoid of anything and reinstall the new OTA.

      • sorandkairi

no it wont and no it wont …well ur just wrong all the way around….

      • Bmac

I was running the cyanogen nightlies and my phone has been acting up so I decided that if this was happening I would give it a try and I’ve reverted back to stock as of last night. I’m just waiting to receive 1.6 and 2.2 updates to see if it was worth it, all else fails I can always reroot.

      • Yes it will, read the t-mo documentation, it clearly states that it is a forced upgrade done in two parts and that it will wipe the phone. Read again. :)

      • sorandkairi

You might want to reread his question for one. Unroot for this? The answer was yes, the only way that he/she would receive the update is if he/she were to go back to stock android that came with phone. Unless, I’m out the loop or something. And the upgrade hasn’t even been authenticated by tmobile via so read what again?! PS has anyone received the update yet.

  • paolo

    the upgrade is start??????

  • DaveT

I have an unrooted MT3G 1.0 from almost exactly a year ago. I’m thinking of doing a factory reset to clear out the junk from unwanted applications/files in preparation for the 2.2 update. Is this worth doing, or won’t it matter?

    • DaveT

To clarify, I want to do factory reset, then upgrade to 2.2 (assuming it’s on the way) then reinstall the applications I want after the upgrade. I’m hoping this will have 2.2 running more smoothly than if I just upgrade with all my old apps/files from the past year. Will any performance gains be worth the trouble of reinstalling everything?

      • BlackHawk

When you upgrade, it will do a factory wipe automatically as it has to erase 1.6 from the device before installing 2.2 so there is no need for you to do a factory reset on your phone before hand.

  • rabbi

that sucks my vibrant just got an updatethis morning to froyo 2.2

    • BlackHawk

Its funny how people think they are getting 2.2 for thier Vibrants, whereas I have seen and heard nothing official from Google or T-mobile saying that this was even available. I do know there was a software “bug fix” OTA for the Vibrant recently, but no 2.2 yet.

      • What he said.. its just the “gps fix” and a few minor changes (like when my phone charges 100 percent it notifies u in the battery sign..wtf?).. no clue or sign from anywhere about 2.2.. check your phone rabbi ull see …settings > about phone..

    • No you didn’t, not on Vibrant, you got ECLAIR.JVI6. :)

    • No you didn’t, you got ECLAIR.UVJI6.

  • mytouche

can you still get this update if your phones rooted but you never added a custom rom?

  • creepn

I called tmo yesterday and heard direct from them this is real and starting today as postet here..

  • DROID.KING

ok SOB’s go the update i documented everything check my video out on youtube!

    Mytouch 3g official (Froyo)

    • h4x

      No link…

    • phongeek

repost with link if your serious

  • Barry

I’m wondering if I was to unroot and then get the ota update update the phone they will put some kinda security clamp on it like they tried to do with the perfect spl the first time. And now put the G2 lock on it. Which apparently isn’t what they said it was and I’m sure someone will find their way around it sooner or later.

    • N1_user

i would keep your phone rooted. someone over at xda-developers.com will have a rooted version of the OTA update soon after a dev receives it. you never know if the new update will be un-rootable for a short period of time… just my $0.02.

I can’t wait for this to come out so I can update my girlfriend’s MT3G. CM6 was so slow on it that I had to put back on an optimized version of 1.6. Hopefully this 2.2 release works better than CM6.

  • BlackHawk

    Anyone get this yet?????

  • I called T-Mobile customer service. They told me this is a correct information, but not everyone will get it in the first day. So we all will get it within 12 day period!

    I’m so excited!

  • dubya504

Nope Nothing yet. But still waiting.

  • NewNew

What about the Samsung Galaxy S??!

The other networks carrying this phone already have froyo. What are we, the redheaded tmobile step child??

  • Aisenshi

For me and some ppl if you call 611 and say english and then say mytouch you will get a message that will confirm that the update is coming from now to the 25 ^_^

  • king

Please wait while we find an agent to assist you…
You have been connected to ~Fawn C.
~Fawn C: Welcome to T-Mobile Chat service Chad. My name is Fawn and for your reference my rep ID is 1320622. First, please allow me one moment to review your question.
~Fawn C: I can certainly look into this matter for you today.
    king: okay
~Fawn C: I am just researching this for us. Please allow me 3-5 minutes.
    king: sure
~Fawn C: Beginning October 13, the highly anticipated Froyo Android 2.2 operating system will be made available to customers using the original T-Mobile myTouch 3G customers via over-the-air (OTA) update from Google.
~Fawn C: The update will be sent to customers by T-Mobile, in coordination with Google, in staggered waves beginning October 13 and we anticipate all customers will receive it by October 25. The update is required for the best experience on myTouch, so customers will not be able to opt out of this update. Customers will be reminded of the update every 30 minutes until they download the update. myTouch 3G customers will receive the update in a two-part OTA, and customers must have a fully charged device before beginning the download.

The first OTA will take approximately 5-10 minutes to download. There will be about a 30 minute gap until the next update is received on the device. The second update will take approximately one hour to receive. During this time, customers can continue to use their devices.
~Fawn C: Have I addressed all of your concerns today Judy?
king: any specficic area where the waves of updates will begin
~Fawn C: The delivery is being managed by Google.
king: okay, do you have any info for up coming updates for the g2.
~Fawn C: I will also look this one up for you. Please bear with me for 2-4 minutes.
    king: alright
~Fawn C: Were you referring to version updates, Chad?
king: yes, mainly the wifi calling feature
~Fawn C: Currently, there is not any updates listed.
king: okay thanks for your time. good bye
~Fawn C: Thank you for contacting T-Mobile Chat, have a great day!

  • j WO

Im so glad i shelled out the extra money for the fender edition to be left behind again. No phone left behing. Isnt that the motto from the news letter? Even if i get the update after the 25th, im pretty sure that is being left behind.

    • BlackHawk

Im not sure about android, but I know other OS’s are device specific. So chances are, they are working out all the details to get an official 2.2 to run on the 3.5 MyTouch, and the Fender versions.

  • ZeroX

The update is only for the original mytouch. Fender won’t be getting it until after the 25th as well the headphone jack mytouch.

  • blazinn831

just curious does anyone no why the mytouch 3g gets the update before the 3.5mm or the fender, is there a hardware difference or software between the mytouch’s. ive heard there were a few differences between the fender and the original mytouch besides the 3.5mm jack.. thanks to whoever can supply the info

    • BlackHawk

It has been out longer. The 3.5 version, and the fender version have more RAM(288 vs 192)and the 3.5 jack. Other than that, I dont know what hardware differences they have. This 2.2 build might only work on the smaller RAM of the original MT3G.

  • tom

i havent got the update yet hope i get it soon

  • BlackHawk

I still cant believe NO ONE has gotten this yet.

  • ZeroX

hmm nobodoy yet? Maybe they sent it out to a few thouad people first? Bigger rollouts coming with the next few days maybe?

  • j WO

Fender and 3.5 were sold after the regular mytouch so probably to be fair, they are doing them first, but that doesnt really make sense since they could do them all at once. Even the slide has 2.1 and would have to wait for 2.2 as well. They should just do all at the same time instead of making the 3.5 and Fender people wait. We pay more for a better phone (not really better, just more memory and he ability to hook up headphones) so they should not consider them any different in my opinion.

    • Chris

I have the original MyTouch3G but have not gotten the update as of yet. It is perfectly fair for us to get it first. Yes they could have sent it to ALL MyTouch phones at one time but seeing as how most phone aside from the original down, has 2.0 or higher, so they figured they would get us the update as all others were cancelled on us.

  • tom

i thought this update was supposed to come out today
why has no one gotten it then
    someone help

  • Bruce

I bought my mT3G in August 2009. Never rooted. No update here.

  • tom

I wonder why no one has gotten this update
    has anyone gotten it yet

  • souggie

i find it funny that tmobile released the update, yet NO ONE on ANY forum has said that they received it….hope TMO aint lying or things could get real ugly in a hurry….somebody needs to receive it and post….SOMEWHERE…..SOON

  • androidlover

man i want it so bad… at least i know that its for sure coming!

  • 007

Well looks like its a another big HYPE!!!!!!!!!
    lol

    • androidlover

no, its real. if you call 611 and say mytouch you get a recording basically saying the same thing the above screen shot says

  • ZeroX

Its the first day. I’d be worried if no one got the update and it was the 24th. Besides Google is handling the updates not T-mobile.

  • solidus433

I’m giving it until Friday. If no one has an update, I’m saying goodbye to android for good. I know its a thing of the past, but BB has always been good to me.

    • Flames

Don’t be stupid, they say it STAGGERING out until the 25th. whats another couple more days of waiting gonna do?

    • 16309A

Why waste your time, just go now!

  • Danielle

I know someone who got their update yesterday (10/12/10)….I’m still waiting for mine…

  • No one yet got the update. I even purchased Data plan for myTouch 3G :( I can’t wait so much.

  • QaeadarDAzeal

It seems like there’s an awful lot of confusion here about the OTA update coming, so allow me to clarify a few things.

    1) This update will NOT wipe your apps, contacts, texts, etc. This update will only update the ROM portion of your phone’s memory. All of your personal information will remain intact, just like when the phone updated from 1.5 to 1.6.

    2) Rooted users, depending on the ROM you’re running, may or may not receive the OTA update. For example, if you’re running a rooted stock ROM, you will probably receive the update. If you’re running Cyanogen, you will not.

    3) If you are a rooted user, and you receive the OTA update, you WILL lose your root.

    Hope that helps. Cheers.

  • David

No update here either…and I never rooted my MT3G. So I will be using both my G2 and the MT3G till then.

  • Morado

I called T-mobile after I read this and they confirmed that they were updating through the air software 2.2 for the mytouch 1.1, 1.2, and fender edition from the 13th through the 25th if you have not received the update after the 25th to call customer support.

    • BlackHawk

Why call T-mo if Google is managing the update?

  • noeworld93

i talked to representative, today like around 6:30 pm. central time. and they have confirmed that the my touch 3g is getting the new 2.2 update over the air. only problem is that only the original will be getting it and everyone else wit the 2ND gen, 3.5 mm jack, fender and my touch slide. will have to wait at a later time for the update, and there is no release date for this. except the only release date for the 1st gen is October 13- 25, 2010

  • mssamanatha

I haven’t gotten mine yet so excited that us original my touch 3g people are getting the update they’ve promised us for a very long time we were supposed to get it in the spring guess they meant the other spring lol

  • Magicdroid

The only device still running cupcake or donut.. about fricking time!

    • There are several devices running 1.5 or 1.6, like, The Motorola Cliq, Cliq XT, BackFlip, & Devour. Also the G1, & Samsung Behold II

  • dione1200

But where is the update? No one seems to get it :)

  • froyo

Look at this tweet: @DaintyYardie MyTouch is doing an update right now. … I wonder what is this update for & Why didn’t I hear about it before?

  • ptobablty first people to be updated do not even know they are getting an update :D Or Do not even know its a 2.2 Froyo update

  • Toya

Got my froyo update this morning!

    • sorandkairi

      congrats…what’s included in the update

    • phongeek

      post vids

  • chris

I got part one of mine this morning. it didnt do anything from what i can tell. and it only took about 30 seconds. Part two should be different.

    • chris

I lost my Market app. How do I get it back?

      • ZeroX

Just wait for the next update. You’ll get 30 minutes after the 1st update.

      • ZeroX

Just wait for the next update. You’ll get 30 minutes after the 1st update.

      • chris

I received all the updates. Everything is fine but I still have NO market icon. I cant download anything.

    • Dan

Awesome! How does your phone run?? Better? Worse? About the same?

  • ZeroX

Nothing here yet. At least some people have gotten it.

  • Somebody

Anybody who is getting the update, before it actually writes the update, please copy the update.zip and post it somewhere for everybody else and for devs to dissect.

Or at least logcat out the update URL so that others can download it from source.

  • Lester

Do you know how to obtain that information, I can not grab the logcat, because I am not rooted. But If there is a way to get the URL without root I will be more than happy to get that!

  • Bryan

    1. I’m connected to the internet through wifi most of the time. Can I get this update thru wifi?
    2. I don’t need to leave my phone on all the time to get the update, right? I normally turn it off at night.
    3. I’m guessing there’s no manual download of the update, right?

    • BlackHawk

      1. Yes…so I have read on different forums.
      2. Not sure 100%, but I dont think so.
      3. Nope….its OTA only right now.

  • coolguy

do we get swype with this update?

    • BlackHawk

      Yes you get swype.

      • Dan

Do you think it would be a good idea to delete the Swype beta if we’re using it prior to the update?? Or should the official one overwrite everything

  • INeedHotSpot

    What about the slide?

    • SoulScreme

Please read the post. Top line, under the picture, in BOLD and ITALICS.

    • BlackHawk

What do you want to know about the slide? Froyo? Not this go around…sorry. Only ORIGINAL NON 3.5 MM JACK MyTouch 3G PHONES ARE GETTING THIS UPDATE. Everyone else has to wait 6+ months like we did for an update.

  • Nick

Ye pleaseee someone get the DL links..
    I really wants this.

  • BlackHawk

Glad its finally showing its face somewhere…..was starting to wonder if this was just an elaborate hoax from Google and T-Mobile….lol.

  • sos

this is completely off track but sources say verizon will be getting the iphone in december….. now this would be easy to believe bc they just started selling the ipad…… this is bs FML

  • ZeroX

FML send me the update lol. I have never rooted. I want Froyo :'(

  • BeachinAndroid

Im waiting patiently in Va Beach. Just been checking my status update status once an hour.

    • pool

      same here.

  • Dorothy

If you get the update, can you also let us know the beginning numbers of your IMEM? They’re going in order of IMEM #.

    • BlackHawk

Do you mean IMEI number? Mine is 3540(first four) No froyo yet.

      • MattB

Yeah… it definitely won’t be by the first four numbers… it would be the 9th-14th digits. The IMEI is sectioned off as a way to give info as well.

Example AAAAAAAABBBBBBC; where the ‘A” number give info on country of origin etc… the ‘B” numbers are your actual serial number, and the ‘C’ number is a checksum and is only used as a means to prevent typographical errors while entering the IMEI into a database or program.

    • kp1234

is IMEI and IMEM the same thing?

  • gowski

Well I really hope us Slide, Fender, and 3.5mm users dont have to wait much longer. I mean they are pushing updates to phones they don’t even sell anymore..kind of a slap to the face to the people who upgraded their devices to make sure they were prepared for the latest and greatest. Thanks again tmobile.

    • I don’t think you would have wait too long. I am sure your update will be next. In order. Us, MyTouchers, waited it for so long. Even though I got used mytouch 3G ~4-5 month ago

    • JustMe

Wow. Some people live their lives with the glass half empty! If the update had come to Slide, Fender, & 3.5mm phones, there would be people complaining about ignoring the early adopters of the myTouch.

There is a clear lack of either understanding or intelligence here. It’s not possible (unless you have infinite resources) to do everything at the same time. Someone has to go first, which means someone else will be last.

Frankly, I find it very encouraging that the original myTouch is getting Froyo. It just means that it’s a no-brainer for the rest of the series (newer phones) to get Froyo, too.

      • gowski

lol, first off…MyTouch users are NOT early adopters. That phone came out way after the G1…Us G1 owners were the early adopters and was told after our contracts were up, a solid year after the original mytouch released, that if you want the latest and greatest android software then you should upgrade your phone past the mytouch… Because at the time, nobody believed the mytouch and previous phones would get the 2.1 or 2.2 update.

I think it is you, that has a clear lack of understanding or intelligence in the cell phone industry and how it all works. Its a money making scheme just like anything else. Call it living our lives with the glass half empty, but I’ve been with T-Mobile for over 7 years and this crap isn’t anything I haven’t seen before.

And dont be to encouraged to believe our update is coming anytime soon. Theres a reason why we didnt get it along with the older mytouch…The Fender, 3.5mm, and Slide, all have special music apps and other minor mods that are screwing the whole software conversion. T-mobile, HTC, nor Google know how to fix it. But cuz your so smart, you prob already knew that…lol.

      • BlackHawk

gowski, justme said said “early adopters of THE MYTOUCH” not android. so your first point is worthless, as no one claimed the the MyTouch was the first. as for a music player and some “other” minor mods being the reason that they(google) cant figure it out. the music player is an app that is apart of the OS, so i dont understand how that matters. the only LminorL things i an think you mean is the fact that the 3.5 and the fender are both using 288(i believe)mb rom and the slide has more than that, so they need to make different OS builds for each device because of hardware differences. at least thats what i have come to learn.

      • Craigers

Gowski I had the myTouch on day one. I AM an early adopter. You can take your horrible G1 and your horrible attitude and shove it.

      • gowski

Hey craigers, just the fact that you wrote your comment at almost 3am tells me you have no life, no girlfriend, and prob no clue about what you are talking about. And Blackhawk, your right I misread the first part…All I am trying to say is that I have been with t-mobile for a long time and when the rave about 2.1 and 2.2 surfaced, us G1 owners at the time, were told to upgrade to the latest and greatest, which meant skipping Mytouch, Cliq and a couple others, to a Slide, Fender, or 3.5mm due to the new software. So they asked for us to upgrade and we did..I have the Slide. I am somewhat dissapointed that after T-mobile convinced me that if I wanted 2.1 2.2 Froyo I would need this phone, they go ahead and release upgrades to the older phones that now they dont even sell anymore. To me, thats bad business. But like I said in my initial post..nothing I haven’t seen from t-mobile before. Call it a bad attitude, glass half full, or whatever..but thats how I look at it.

  • tom

still havent got it the update
at least some people are getting it

  • How will i know if I got an update, so I will not miss it?

    • BeachinAndroid

It should send a text saying you got it, plus you can check your Systems Updates

      • With my lack, I will get it in the last hour of October 25th :D

      • ZeroX

Lol I’m right there with you

      • solidus433

When I got my 1.6 update, it wasn’t a text. I had a pop-up on my home page that said I had received a system update. Same thing when I got the software update a while back. also, since Google is managing the update, it seems to me it wont come as a text, but as the same pop up style alert I have seen in the past. It was the same way on my wife’s slides when she got her big fix update a month or so ago too.

  • Will

So my phones soft rooted with the one click root and I’m running cyanogen is there any chance I’ll get the update?

    • No, cm disabled factory OTA’s

      • Will

Any easy way to get rid of cyanogen?

  • Jay

Still waiting for my update. I was a very early adopter of the original MyTouch, bought it the week it came out.

    • MishkaGreen

I got mine around October of 2009 and I’m still waiting for the update too. Kinda chomping at the bit here.

    • Craigers

I got mine the day it came out and I still have nothing 8(

      • Herman

I got mine 5 days before it came out. Srs. Preordered it and they mailed it early. And still no Froyo.

  • anthonyabsolute

my phone was rooted for like a day and i heard that the MT3G was getting the update so i unrooted it … will i get the update still.. its running 1.5 donut ??

  • anthonyabsolute

will i get the update even tho i un-rooted my phone and its running 1.5

    • Not sure about 1.5, but people were saying that 1.6, if unrooted, will get the update

      • anthonyabsolute

i called t-mobile and they told me that i would still get the update still i’ll get both 1.6 N 2.2 but if i get the the 2.2 before the 1.6 just not to download it

  • mytouche

i rooted my mt3g a long time ago but never actually flashed a rom. i dont actually know how to unroot it. can i expect to get the update? i did get the new android market update very recently

  • ZeroX

I dont see why not. I’d get 1.6 Donut though just to be safe though.

  • ZeroX
  • mytouche

seems like people are slowly getting it. we’ve got another 11 days to go before their deadline haha.

btw my firmware is at 1.6 donut.

  • Tonyy

Will i still get the update if im running
    1.5?

    • anthonyabsolute

tmo-rep told me yes you will still get the update but you’ll get 2 one for 1.6 and the second for 2.2 so watch which update you get becuz if you get 2.2 first you don’t want to approve the second for 1.6

      • Tonyy

        Oh Ok
        Thanks Really helped

  • Evan

When you receive the update, is it in the form of a text message?

    • ZeroX

No. Its OVA (Over the Air) Update. Need a Data connection over T-Mobile. People won’t get the update over Wifi.

      • BlackHawk

Even though the Google servers are managing the update? Im only curious because I no longer use my MT3G as my primary phone, and do not have an Android plan anymore.

      • ZeroX

Yeah. Their using the IMEI Numbers to send the updates out.

      • solidus433

Well, if that’s the case no froyo for me. Unless I can do of manually later.

      • Somebody

ABSOLUTELY you WILL get it over wifi. The update process has NOTHING to do with tmobile. The update comes from GOOGLE’S SERVERS, and google doesn’t care in the slightest how you are connected.

      • sorandkairi

@somebody….. Wrong…ota updates are done “over the air”… not using a computer’s internet connection

    • BlackHawk

ok, here it is again, straight from “GOOGLE’, the people managing this update.

If you’re roaming you won’t receive a system update notification. You must be connected via Wi-Fi OR have an active cellular data connection to download an OTA update and standard charges from your carrier may apply. If you do not have enough battery life remaining, the Restart & install button will be grayed out. Please charge your phone and try the upgrade again later

  • GUNZ

My dad got the update but i haven’t had a chance to look at it. im rooted so i won’t be getting it lol

    • Somebody

Root won’t stop you from getting the update! A custom ROM might, but that will be because the device id’s are altered specifically to prevent OTA — because OTA’s are BAD.

The update and/or update process CANNOT DETECT THAT YOU HAVE ROOT!

  • alex

hey. Can I get the ota update. Over a wifi connection. Or am I out of luck

  • mad

how do you know if your phone is rooted (if you bought it from someone else for instance)

    • Bmac

The easiest ways I can think of to tell are:
1: it has a custom rom or kernel (you can check in the about phone)
2: you have a custom recovery image which you can check by holding power and home on startup, if it goes to a screen with the name of some recovery than your phone is also rooted.

If your phone is rooted it can be unrooted by getting the sappimg.nbh from HTC (or any developer community) and flashing it onto your phone in fastboot. You can also then get the updates for 1.6 and the minor update they did off the internet.

  • mytouch

    will it have live wallpapers

    • jazzmanmonty

obviously you don’t read posts. scroll back up and you will find the answer for yourself once you read what it says.

    • phongeek

      yes

    • chris

I got the update yesterday. NO live wallpaper. No swype

  • tom

    day 2 still no update

    • Bmac

They gave a 13 day time frame, calm down

    • phongeek

when they say staggering update .. they must of really meant STAGGERING update well atleast we’re getting it

  • jazzmanmonty

big question, is the 2.2 going to have apps2sd and tethering capabilities?

    • Bmac

Over on the t-mo forums theyre reporting tethering support but no live wallpapers. I didnt see any mention of apps2sd but I dont know why they would forgo that of all features.

  • I wonder why don’t they give it out in bigger amounts? Only few people reported to get it.

    • Somebody

So that their tech support in india doesn’t suddenly get everyone calling about it.

      • sorandkairi

        really …. racist much!?

  • Hmmmm?

This is great, first the myTouch 3G now the Cliq will be getting an update too. I think this is good move for these phones and for T-Mobile. Perhaps now some of the people that knocked the new myTouch earlier because myTouch phones “never” get updated will back down since the Android updates are finally coming.

  • BeachinAndroid

Glad my wife’s Cliq will be updated “Soon”. Still waiting for my update though patiently… uhh

  • JackMatt

    Anyone gotten the update yet?

  • Jettaguy2003

I don’t know why this isn’t making more headline news than it is!! I know tons of people w/the Mytouch 3G phone who’ve been promised this in April, then June, then Aug, and now in October! Understandably technology advances fast these days, but to come out with 5 new android phones with T-mobile pushing them instead of taking care of their current customers needs is not good. What if I bought the new Samsung phone now, and android 3.0 comes out nov or dec? Then there’d be a new phone and mine would obsolete in 2 months?! The market needs to give customers a chance to chance up and not advance every other month. Iphones only come out once a year!

  • mlb1906

I just talked to a Tmob rep, in store, who said all the Mytouch’s will be getting the update by the end of next month at the latest.

    • David, Managing Editor

Ummmm, thats not what I heard.

      • Chris

The original myTouch only, not all 3

      • deckrider

Can you tell us what you heard?

    • BlackHawk

By the end of November sounds reasonable. Plus, not the Cliq is finally getting an update…the othe MyTouch phones CANT be TOO FAR behind.

  • keller

Well its official on tmobile forums… a few screenshots too!

  • kporter1234

Well its official on tmobile forums… a few screen shots too!

  • BlackHawk

If you’re roaming you won’t receive a system update notification. You must be connected via Wi-Fi OR have an active cellular data connection to download an OTA update and standard charges from your carrier may apply. If you do not have enough battery life remaining, the Restart & install button will be grayed out. Please charge your phone and try the upgrade again later.

This come straight from google. So, its does seem that those using WiFi only will still recieve the update.

  • Wolfy

From the screenshots it looks like the 2nd part of the update is being done with wifi. Maybe it is possible to get this update over wifi then.

    • Wolfy

Looks like Blackhawk beat me to it…

  • tom

    still no froyo
i want this update so bad

  • ZeroX

    Right there with you

  • ZeroX

    Right there with you

    23 days and Still Waiting

  • tacomeat

I wonder if version 1.2 phones will get the same vanilla froyo and the same features as the originals, or something different seeing as they have more room for stuff.

  • jake

I’m willing to bet any of us that have been waiting for this, wont get it until the last couple of days. Those who have received already probably have no clue what it is.

  • MishkaGreen

You hit the nail right on the head!

  • dubya504

    22 days and Still Waiting

  • flash support???

  • Those of us, who cannot wait anymore, would get update in the last hours. This is the law of physics of luck :) As the other guy said, and I earlier, those who getting it have no clue what the hell it is!

  • Jade

So, has anyone gotten this yet or are we still stuck with the craptastic 1.6 ?

    • cruzctrl

  • Ben

Just got my froyo update this morning and loving it!!!!!!

  • dubya504

    24 days and Still Waiting

    • 16309A

I’m confused–what do you mean 24 days and still waiting if this only started on the 13th and you made that post on the 17th? Where I am from that is only four days????

  • Evan

I got the first part….but nothing else is happening after my phone rebooted….

  • Dennis

Still nothing… no love for Baltimore (surprisingly).

I feel as if there’s something wrong with my phone at this point. I rooted once, but went back to 1.6 awhile ago.

  • zapata714

anyone in Southern California get the update?

    • MishkaGreen

Nothing in Los Angeles so far!

    • adam r

nothing in Central Cali either, ugh.

  • Evan

What the heck!? I get the freaking update, it reboots, now its been close to 45 minutes and the second part is no where to be seen.

  • Viator

    Got my mytouch3g froyo update.

    Phoenix,AZ

    • Bmac

I haven’t seen mine and I’m in the same area…

  • Kazanyr

I got the update, but it seems a bit lacking based on what was being said. I’ve got no live wallpaper, not sure if flash was coming with this or not either. Looks like I ended up with version 2.2.1

  • cosculluela

    got my FROYO UPDATE!!!!!!

    • MishkaGreen

      Southern California?

  • cosculluela

    Jersey

  • May

I’m in Los Angeles – got the first part of the Mytouch 3g Froyo update last night. Put the phone back on its base this morning and received the second part of the update. This morning I noticed that I had the Market application on my menu screen and a few hours later, after turning the phone on and off, the Market app disappeared! Trying to find a way to recover the app without having to do a full reset…very annoying.

    • Dodanafoneium

Reboot the phone. Hope it helps!

    • chris

The exact same thing happened to me so I called TMO and the girl had me do a fatory reset. it worked but then I lost text messaging. They are send ing me a new phone. Great right? <– sarcasm.

  • chris

Where the hell is this damn update for Jersey?!!!

  • Russ

Still no update in Kansas City, MO.

  • MishkaGreen

I’m in Los Angeles and so far nothing on my end. Looking forward to it though

  • sorandkairi

anyone with the update, is the phone considerably faster or what!?

    • sorandkairi

      apps to sd?!

  • Dodanafoneium

    Anything in Dallas?

  • skeeter

    nothing in georgia

  • jake

2.2 for the mytouch should not be called froyo. Maybe Minotaur or Unicorn, because so far it’s a myth

  • chris

I swear if I don’t get this update soon, I’m gonna throw a fit, MyTouch came through but it’s to move on, so this update better come and it better work.

    • chris

      Time*

  • chaz

Hi guys, I got my 2.2 update last night. I’m from Southern Cali. I have to say, the phone works a lot faster and it’s nice having 5 screens! In terms of new capabilities, so far I haven’t notice too much. I haven’t been able to get flash 10.1 which is what I really want. I don’t see a new outlook email program. Gmail is a little different, there’s a clock/dock app thingy which I haven’t figured out what’s it’s for. I’m assuming it’s for charging your phone and keeping it on a clock mode? I like that I can finally “pinch-zoom”! The browser is different also, but I don’t see any major benefits yet. All in all, I like the update, makes the phone significantly faster, and it feels like a new phone.

I hope this helps you all who are still waiting and this is proof, it’s not a MYTH!

    • phongeek

      pics??? send em to David

  • chaz

ps. I download the new app called “app 2 sd” and it’s pretty cool. but only 3 of my apps were capable of being used on my sd card. i’m hoping maybe in the future somehow we can get more apps onto the sd card. but still happy. =)

  • Evan

What do I lose when I do a factory reset? I’m trying to get my Android Market to return.

  • chaz

you lose all your apps that you downloaded and anything else stored on the phone that was not there when you originally bought the phone. there is an app where you can store your apps onto the sd card and then restore them after you do the factory reset. you will get your gmail-emails, and contacts after reset since it’s all stored on there server. in the end, you will get or should get back all the original apps that comes with the phone.

    • Evan

Will I lose 2.2 and go back to 1.5?

      • no u will not degrade the os

      • Evan

But how do you know with the myTouch?

      • BlackHawk

A factory reset does not reset the OS. I have done multiple resets on my MyTouch, and I did not go back to 1.5

  • robin

Nothing in Memphis so far! I’m waiting and watching for it! Anyone with the new update… can you do live wallpapers? Yes, I know it drains the battery like crazy but I want the option.

  • Nothing here, Los Angeles

  • Jomar

Nothing here in North Carolina either COME ON ALREADY I NEED FROYO

  • mytouche

virginia. no update yet. lady at tmobile 611 said the dates she had were 19th – 21st for virginia. who knws…

    • Jomar

Well dang well, I’m guessing since VA & NC are right beside each other than we should probably get the update at the same time… That sucks!

  • KCK

Still no update for Kansas City,KS

  • kollegekid

hey guys im a total noob here. i dont know how this works? will i get like a notification from the market saying you have to update like i do with my apps…and does it go by city or state or something because i would assume that it would just all happen at once….btw in columbia mo and nothing

  • I already began to have dreams that my phone got a Notification for Update. So I wake up in the middle of the night, check the phone, and go back to sleep with unsatisfied feeling.

    • BeachinAndroid

      Exactly….

  • BeachinAndroid

I was fine with waiting cause Im happy with the phone but now that I know the update is rolling out, Im about ready to go crazy in anticipation…

  • Dodanafoneium

    Dear T-Mobile and Google,
Please give us a download link so all of us original mytouchers may enjoy in the FroYo goodness. :D
    Sincerely,
    Waiting in Anticipation.

  • Jaytwizzle

    nothing so far in Houston,TX

  • bill

can you still get the updated to 2.2 if your on 1.5?

  • Jmanuelb87

    Nothing For ATL yet.

  • ZeroX

From researching online I saw that someone in tmobile forums called CS and they said the real rollout starts on the 19th. They said that a few had gotten froyo before that but bigger waves of OTA updates will be seen on the 19th-31st now.

    • BlackHawk

That person also claimed that CS told them that NO ONE had recieved the update yet, and NO ONE will until the 19th, which is simply not ture. CS also told another person on the T-Mobile forums that the update was for the Slide.

  • Just got my first update on mytouch3g this morning at 6:14a.m. Oct 18

  • Dubya504

    20 day and Still Waiting

  • Whiner

I believe they are updating in imei sequence not cities. So the thought of cities getting it together is nonsense

  • Perry

Just got my update yesterday, it was a 2 part process. Took a total of maybe 20 minutes total.

I see all the new 2.2 stuff. One thing I notice is missing is live wallpapers. I’m going to check but I don’t believe they are supported on the MT3G

Gallery has a great upgrade. Messaging app is much better as well. We now have 5 home screens instead of 3.

All in all I’m very happy. Performance wise the phone feels snappier.

At this point any limitations are not the fault of Froyo but of the hardware.

    • mytouche

      what state are you in?

    • Joe

Can you use Google Earth? I think I heard that this would not be supported since the MT3G can’t handle flash.

  • David

GRR!!! Nothing yet….CAN THEY GO ANY SLOWER? There actually can’t be that many original MT3Gs left out there…

  • aa give me froyo

  • Jackson

glad some are getting updates already. how are the camera improvements? is the camcorder taking better videos closer to 30 frame per second, or is the video still choppy?

    • sorandkairi

      thats a good question!

  • gman

Can you download and play Angry Birds now?

  • merlottouch

Froyo took away the option to send annoying contacts straight to voicemail…….whyyyy

    • TH

does the update have the swype keyboard? I have the beta version on my 1.6 but don’t want to lose it. Still waiting on the update, hope it comes soon

  • merlottouch

    Never mind I found it!

  • After getting my upgrade in two parts early this morning I noticed the android market was I called Tmobile and they wanted me to format the phone, deleting the upgrade, I asked it would restore to 1.6 and they said yes but guess what 2 OO android came back ALL FUNCTIONS working perfectly. I also noticed that google kept a list of my applications i had before on their servers. And it 12:35 lunch time they are getting downloaded into phone.
SYSTEM UPDATE IS GOOD—-YOU MIGHT HAVE TO FORMAT PHONE IN APPLICATIONS IF YOU ARE MISSING ANYTING.
THANKS T MOBILE ITS got just about all the programs the G2 has and have noticed no slow down in downloads on 3g

  • gman

Would I be able to get the update over WiFi if I do not have the data plan active?

    • BlackHawk

      Yes

      • michael

is that a yes for the wifi or data

  • Lioness

Did the same prompted update this morning… Anroid Market APP is gone.. will see whats good b4 I call T-mobile… Aside from missing APP this update is great AND ‘remote wiping’ wish it had that when my phone was stolen last month :(

  • Jay

    Still waiting for my update…

  • Andrew

A friend at work got hers earlier. I played around with it some, it seems a lot faster. I was going to record some video of it with my G2 but I got busy. Had her download a live wallpaper just to see if it worked but she never let me know. Were in KC.

    • Adam

someone in KC got the update?! YAY!
      hopefully im next

  • bkgenesis

Did anyone from New York get the update yet?

  • Oct

Has anyone In Florida get the update yet?

    • J-man

      Nope… still waiting in J-ville…

      • TH

        still waiting in Tucson, AZ

      • J-man

Nevermind, got it on Thursday 10.21.10

  • ben

Daly city still waiting. …… hello. ….hello anybody out there. Were that little bit of land covered in fog.

  • Whiner

I still don’t understand why people think it has to do with the city they’re from. Hilarious

    • MishkaGreen

What’s the pattern or method of the rollout?

      • Whiner

They are rolling out by imei number on your phone. I’m assuming they’re going in order

      • BlackHawk

I heard it was based on the serial number of your phone, which is the 9th-14th numbers of your IMEI. My serial number is low(003364), and I havent gotten my update.

      • impatient

i hope not…mine starts with 099 in the 9th 10th 11th spot :( does anyone have official word on how they determine who gets it when? and based on what?

      • TH

I got the text this morning with instructions but still no update. It says the phone has to be fully charged and plugged. Power outlet or computer?

  • merlottouch

New York got mine this morning when I woke up around 6:15 I had the first part got the second part maybe a half hour later

  • Jay

For everyone that got the update, did battery life improve?

  • Dodanafoneium

The bigger waves of the update start tomorrow!

  • MikeyD

Did anyone from Minnesota get the update?

  • Dubya504

6 days left and still No update!!!

    • Camille

The deadline for the OTA update has been moved to Oct 31. Sorry, but it’s more than 6 days left.

  • BeachinAndroid

Chomping at the bit right now…

  • carl

Is there a site where people are posting that they have received the update. It’s interesting that there are only a few people here and there that have verified they received it. It’s clear that it does exist and that it is going out but, very VERY slowing.

    • Camille

You can check the T-Mobile Mytouch 3g forum. The guys at the XDA site have already hacked the update and made a rooted version.

  • 16309A

    FIGURES!

My wife dropped her mytouch a month ago, broke the screen, bought a Vibrant (which she loves!) I still have a mytouch.

Last night I plug her phone in for the first time since then to charge the battery so I can have a spare while I travel. That damn thing isn’t plugged in for 5 minutes and she gets the update!! I still have nothing!!! :(

  • Marisleysis

I’m curious as to what improves with the camera after this update. I don’t expect HD video, but I hope it can now take smoother videos at higher frame rates!

  • ChrisK

Settle down people! Geez. You will all get the update, complaining about on a website doesn’t make it come to your phone any quicker. Hang in there, its coming and you’ll be bored of it in a month.

    • 16309A

      Misery loves company…

      • Adam

no where else to go but the forums…

  • KCK

Kansas City,Kansas has not recieved an update yet.

    • Adam

you also? damn… tmobile always forgets us… our 3g sucks too

  • 456: Free T-Mobile MSG: Over the next two weeks, a 2 part Froyo Android OS upgrade will be sent to your myTouch 3G. Details: http://www.t-mobile.com/myTouch-MR

    • it seems the “Drawer” is gone (I kinda dug it though, sliding up to open it and all that). Now you tap where the “Drawer” handle was and it displays your apps.

  • Josh

Got the update in KC at 7:45 am 10/21/2010. No Swype..:(

  • Sk817Lakai

If you have any knowledge on how to flash the update I recommend heading over to XDA-Developers.com and checking out downloading the update and flashing the SPL first and then the Froyo OTA second. I’ll explain how to flash: Take the .zip file and transfer it to your SD card. Rename it to “update.zip” If your running windows just name it “update” the .zip is already added on for windows. Then while your SD card is in your phone turn it off and after its off hold down the power and home button until you see a triangle and a phone. CLICK the home and power button and it’ll give you a list of options click on the one that says “flash: update.zip” and then it’ll do the work from there. Do the SPL update first then repeat the process all over again for the Froyo update. Ta-Da!

  • Whiner

No live wallpapers? No swype? WTF? Figures T-Mobile wouldn’t give us everything. LOL

  • Ghost57

I modded my mytouch to cyanogenmod about a month ago beacuase i thought the new update would never arrive. Does anyone kno if there is a difference between cyanogenmod and the new froyo update?

    • New Froyo works faster than Cyanogen mod, according to the users.

  • Happy Panda

    I have Froyo! Yeeeah!

  • Still waiting. I’m being tempted to try flashing it myself, from XDA :D but I don’t know what should I do

  • isherleh

I just received the text, which means that the update is on it’s way. B-)

    • David

October 25th and still no update.

Another in a long line of disappointments from t-mobile…

  • Anyway, Im installing it manually. Got sick of waiting!

  • skeeter

I just got the text hopefully it starts updating soon fingers crossed lol

  • geoffott

I just got the text too… (Lakeland, FL) What is funny is that I was on the CM Remix of the official OTA update (posted on XDA) when I got it. I used ROM Manager from clockworkmod to revert back to stock donut to wait for the OTA so I can compare the two; if it takes more than a day I’m going back to my nandroid backup of the mod, and waiting while on (almost vanilla)Froyo…

  • Argh!

WTF, how come the other myTouch 3Gs don’t get it? Lame!

  • chachaaaa

are we getting the swipe keyboard?

    • Nope, there is no swipe. What I have noticed is that we now have a comma (,) on the original keyboard replaced by a Microphone symbol, and now it does Speech to text. And it works well, even with my accent

  • Jay

I got the text yesterday, am eagerly waiting for my update!

    • I got text 3 days ago. But I could no longer wait, so I just simply did it manually from XDA community.

  • Jay

Question for those who have got the update, did your MyTouch have to be plugged in and charged for you to receive the update? Thanks.

    • Tonyy

      No Just Fully Charged
      Well For me.

  • Tonyy

    I got FROYO this morning!
It is a little slow at first but i factory reset and it seems to be working great.

  • hector

i really hope this damn update comes soon

  • Taylor

must this waiting keep goinngg…. i got the text today hopefully the update come 2morrow :D

  • joeyy

Got a text at about 1:45 and still havent recieved the update does anyone know how long it takes after you get the text message ?

  • Jose

  • Gil

i got my email yesterday and update started today… but for some reason my phone keeps freezing and I can’t access text. Is anyone having the same issue? I don’t know what to do.

  • Lisa

received the update, installed it, now my phone is ridiculously slow and my Messages app doesn’t even work!

  • skeeter

got the text at 2:09 pm on 10/21/2010 and still no update wtf smh

  • Crimson

have not gottena text or anything and i have an original not very much a tech. any one else has this problem BD- dmd64

    • Jomar

Same here but I got the text 10/20/10 and no update still.

  • billionzjr

So wait…this update doesn’t have 10.1?!!? Wuts the frigging use of it? I mean.. seriously man? Ya know, this isn’t even my phone. This belongs 2 a friend who asked me about the update.
2 bad I have 2 tell her, “ur phone is faster but u still have 2 buy a different phone if u want flash support

    • According to Adobe site, flash needs much more power. I hope some one will go around and mod it for slower phones

  • dan

OMG, I’ve never seen so many impatient bloggers in my life….is it just me, or is my just life too boring to be so worried about ‘waiting’ too long for this….i got the “over the next 2 weeks’ text yesterday and hopped online to learn what froya is all about…wanted to see what to expect,,,I’m looking forward to it…I had no idea there was such an ‘issue’ to so many people about it not being here fast enough…..when it happens, it happens….am I freaking out, looking at my phone every 5 mins, ‘patiently waiting’…etc…?…uh, no, ….too many more important things in life to worry about…that’s just me….just feeling the need to express how funny (and in MY opinion, somewhat ridiculous) some people are regarding having to wait w/in the 2 week period…

    • Dan, firs of all you should read when and how many times T-Mobiel has promised the updated. Second, they promised it from October 13th to October 25th. Now they changed it to October 19th to October the 30th! And it happened dozen of times in the past!

    • Taylor

Its the fact that this time its “real”.
For me, I’m impatient because i wont belive its real until i get.
      and what Toxa said.

  • ConeTJ

Followed the steps from XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807899) and everything worked smoothly! And only took me a few minutes (not counting registering to there website to get the Market Fix). My HTC MyTouch 3G (Original/32B) is now running Froyo (Android 2.2.1)! Sweet!

BTW anyone know why the multi-touch points change places when they cross? for example if you use the Touch-Test App, and you touch one point on upper left corner and one at the lower right corner and cross them (dragg left to right and right to left) when they cross both boints go back instead of continuing to the other side.

    (simple text Graffic)
    Start:
    X—-
    —-Y
    Move
    X—>
    <—Y
    Cross
    –X–
    –Y–
    Points Return instead of continuing
    -X—
    —Y-
And end back at the start
    X—-
    —-Y
    instead of finishing like this
    —-X
    Y—-

this happens from left to right and top to bottom.

  • isherleh

    Just received my update! =D

  • chris

Did the XDA update, I’ve had this phone for over a year now and to wait another entire two weeks for an update that was promised months ago is just out of the question. 2.2 is alright, freezes up everynow and then but the update is amazing! I love it! XDA was the best decision I’ve made in a while!

  • zapata714

is it possible that they extended the release date of the OTA update because it still might have had bug’s that needed to be fixed?

  • Use XDA update link. no need moding. same update, just manual instal. No need rooting, just follow instruction. Link posted on top

    • phonegeek

BTW chris was right on one thing save the “update files” directly to your phone but upon doing so RENAM the files to “update.zip” IMMEDIATELY rename when saving it to your phones SD(when the save to prompt pops up). DO NOT i repeat DO NOT save it to the phone and THEN renam the file… it will absolutely get you no where

      • phonegeek

        rename*

  • SWAGGERboi

Can someone please help me. Im trying to update my mytouch manually but when i go to the boot screen it says E:cant open /cache/recovery/command under this it says E:cant open /sdcard/update.zip(no such file or directory) I dont know what to do please help thanks.

    • Ask on XDA forum in the same thread

    • chris

Some people make the mistake of saving the file to their computer first and then dragging it over to the SD card, just save the file directly to the phone when asked.

      • phonegeek

whoops lol glad you said that @chris

      • chris

        lol, no problem @phonegeek

  • Lest

    Got the FROYO update..
Within one hour of the update I found my battery will no longer hold a charge.
Right now I am only getting 4-5 hours standby if I’m lucky,If I actually use the phone I have maybe 1-2 hours before my phone completely dies.

Before the update I could go a day and a half w/o a charge and as far as talk/use time I never really had to think about it.
    SO Disappointed.

I have tried battery calibration- Turned my Wifi and GPS off- Uninstalled every app that was not a necessity as well as some that were- Dimmed my black light and obviously pulled my battery out to make sure it was ok.

NONE of this has helped me.

I called T-mobile and and the rep asked me to take my battery out and look at it—- Seriously! After I did that (again) and everything looked fine he then asked me if it got wet…. I had already explained the FROYO update and that my battery was fine before.

The solution via T-mobile customer service is a New battery….. :(

Does anyone have any information that would actually be helpful for me?

    • chris

I have the same issue, the update is so draining! I just charge it whenever I can -_-

  • true, everytime i restart phone, all apps i have are running in the background…. all of them. try install advanced app killer. check if u got same issue

  • AWS

Does anyone know if there are any issues getting the update on a rooted MyTouch? I received the text almost a week ago. Someone who has had the phone less time than me already has the update. I am not sure how they determine who gets it first. Maybe I will try the update manually.

    • AWS

more info that will help. I am rooted but running 1.6 rom as it was the more stable than the 2.1 or 2.2, It is the Amon Ra’s clean donut.

      • If you rooted – you cannot get the update. (c) someone on the forum

  • tom

    still waiting for froyo

  • tom

    still waiting for the update

    • tom

That same thing is happening to me. I haven’t got the update yet either. I don’t know how to fix it. Do you know how to fix it?

      • Quintin

I just rebooted it. But still no 2.2

    • tom

    I follow these steps:
    http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/Operating-System-Software/How-To-Manually-Update-to-Froyo/td-p/515941/highlight/false

    Did it in like 10mins
And theres also a vid on youtube to help you follow the steps.

    Mytouch 3G running 2.2!!!

  • Screwed again

Still waiting for this so-called “update”….my guess: Just more T-Mobile lies about updating phones! When are they going to care about their customers??!!

    • 16309A

How can you say T-Mobile is lies? People have received the update, including my wife. Just because it hasn’t hit your phone yet T-Mobile lies? Give it a rest!

  • Tracy

Funny how one phone on my account already go the update but mine did not… thinking I might brave the manual update…

  • people start complain and do it manually from xda forum… link posted above. same update but no wait

  • KBEATZZZ

Guys… why are you all waiting for the froyo update. just got to xda and do the 3 steps to get your froyo. Thats what I did. And Im loving it!!!!! NO issues what so ever. Very easy and clean. Follow those step is you can read. LMAO… GOOD LUCK!!!!!

  • Quintin

I can’t wait any longer. Someone please show me what I need to do to get 2.2 on my phone. Do I need rom manager? I downloaded the files. youtube is not any help.

  • Quintin

Are should I just wait it out?

    • Taylor

Just do it, its really easy nn safe.

      • Quintin

        yea but how?

    • Taylor

go to the link i post above or the xda link toxa post.

I have to say the link i post, the steps seem more understandably.

  • skeeter

still no froyo guess ill upgrade

  • After few days of use, My phone started to lag. Google Maps are crushing… Phone glitches.. When use app in background – typing lags… Also, after restarting phone I found out all APPS running in background. What the hell

  • Adam

it is currently past the first dead line… No update.
anyone figure out the order of how theyre rolling this out yet, the waiting is killing me.

  • Jomar

Couldn’t wait any longer so I went ahead and updates my phone manually so I now have…. FROYO!!!!!!!! if anyone has any questions on how to do it just let me know I’ll give you the link! :)

    • Mattman2115

can you tell me how to manually update please

  • carl

I’m in San Francisco, California and none of the people I know that have the mytouch 3g have received the update. I’ve stopped looking at the phone expecting to see an update waiting for me. It comes when it comes. I have a feeling they are going to push the dates out a bit more. I doubt they are going to push it to everyone within that time schedule they posted. I don’t think their call centers can handle the questions from newbies and non-technical people.

  • Taylor

only problem i have is that the batt runs out so freaking fast.. i find myself useing task killer more then ever…
but the 2.2 is still bad a**

  • BeachinAndroid

I have one question for anyone who knows. If you manually download it, will Tmobile still send you a promt that will ask you to download it? Will you have to do it a second time?

    • mssamanatha

I called yesterday and they said you have to wait for the prompt that unless you don’t get it by November then they can send it to you.

  • Dennis

    This.

    Is.

    Bull.

    Cue Jeopardy waiting music…

  • Quintin

    how?

  • Is it me, or after a week after update phone lags?

  • S. G.

    … waiting, waiting, waiting …

  • jeeper82

Got my text a week ago and still no update. Is the manual instal on xda a modded version or the offical version that tmobile and google are sending out.

    • Jomar

It is the one Tmobile and Google are sending out it has Myfaves included

    • johnny johnson

Go to community an do manual update really easy

      • Strnbrat

where is the community to do the manual update?

  • jeeper82

Ok. Not knocking on the guys over at xda but but i don’t think the manual update they have up is actually 2.2. Some Features are missing like the news and weather app and voice control and live wallpaper. All things that were listed on tmobiles forum. If this the official update then we are being lied to by tmobile. Going back to 1.6 and waiting till the 31st. Then calling tmobile.

  • BeachinAndroid

What is it? The first and I still dont have an update…. Not surprising…

  • I got my text 3 weeks ago and still no update

Got my text a month ago. Called cust service 11/1 to check & was told deadline was moved out to December 15th. No big deal…’and we’re waiting’ in Flo’s voice.

Got my updates this morning. Very nice, much faster, clean UI, no issues whatsoever. Has MyFaves but no swipe. My area is SW WA (state, not WA DC).

Got a system update yesterday night and its now on my handset (5 weeks after the T-mobile update notification message). A big improvement in speed and look, multitouch, much improved gallery, car use screen, 5 panel screens (much more than you realistically need), improved camera application and better overall UI design. Its worth the wait – Basically breathes new life into my handset which was beginning to becoming very slow to the point of being unresponsive in v1.6.

I got the update last night as well, Only problem is that my email does not work, I went to check it and it gives me an update accounts message with my hotmail account listed below, any help out there?

  • Scdreamchaser

Mine updated this morning, and now I keep getting a message that my Contacts can’t update because there isn’t enough space on the phone. I deleted many apps, and those I didn’t I moved to my SD card. There is MORE than enough space for this to happen. Now I can’t see any of my contacts. Anyone else have this happen? What can I do?

  • thanks goodness… makes me smile. ;o)

Anyone else having issues with the camera and photo gallery? I cannot access my images or use the camera following the build installation.

  • Sutabi

I received mine 5 days ago (Got the text on Oct. 17th), I was one of the few to have pre-ordered so I suppose I am first in line? Overall the update feels like I have a new phone. However I was getting the same lag in 1.6 and drove me nuts. I had Google Voice enabled, so I disabled Google Voice, uninstalled and the shear speed up of 2.2 is just amazing. The UI is so much more responsive. As a big note, live wallpapers do not work, no option to use them, You can download them though. I was blown to see this phone had multi touch! It only works in the browser and photo gallery, but damn amazing. Also get 5 home screens instead of 3 :). The Camera app is a HUGE plus, almost feels like a camera, minus flash :. There is no flash player release by adobe on MyTouch 3G just yet, maybe there will be?

  • kcheek

still haven’t got mine…. getting a little irritated.

  • Stacks

got mine this morning and have had nothing but issues since it updated. cannot access main menu, messaging, email, or pretty much any other app on my phone, also having horrible lag issues and random restarts.

  • Martin

well guys, I received the update a week ago, and let me tell u something, I heard about after the update many application wont work as usual, so I decided reset the phone doing a FACTORY RESET after the update, and the initial setup was totally different, cause it loads the “new android system”, got new programs. Dont worry about the contacts cause it automactly retreives since u have a gmail account with it. all u need to do is reinstall the programs u had on it. so I think that the best way to setup the new android system.

    Can some one please help

  • I love how android fits with the froyo , they go so well together

    • I totally agree android is the best operating system for any phone, not dissing iphone users but in my experience is better

  • Fender_phone

contact tmobile – they may provide you with a new phone.

  • Strnbrat

I have the my touch 3g slide and can not wait to get the new update. My husband got the update on his my touch and it lets you move some of the apps stuff to your memory card. i hate, hate, hate that i am not able to do this. Half of the memory is filled with apps that come on the phone.

I revieved OTA update for my T-Mobile MyTouch 3g Fendor Edition on Sunday and my experience is horrible.
I had a fully functional phone without major issues till Fryo 2.2.1 OTA update. After the update my phone is too slow and freezing. I could not browse in a normal fashion. It is taking more than 5 minute to get a webpage loaded. If you try to go to Android market don’t expect to get any results.

After performing a web search I understand that this is a widespread issue for TMT 3g and I never seen any phone owner saying a positive experience. I need to assume that T-Mobile did not perform any testing before sending this OTA. So what is the solution for unhappy customers. I understand that T-Mobile support does not have any answer and only comment I heard is root the phone and put back 1.6 manually.
Bad state for a company to be challenger.

    • Eleftheriahthanatos83

call tmobile and they will send it to your phopne. if you wait for the ota from htc/google then plan on waiting about 2 months
