Project Emerald Details Emerge, Possible Sidekick Successor Running Android?

Earlier this week we provided our viewers with exclusive details on the upcoming “Project Emerald“. Although there was much speculation suggesting that Project Emerald was the Samsung Galaxy S, our sources tell us that HTC is in fact the manufacturer. Our source is also claiming that the device is to be called the “Sidekick Twist,” though nothing has been finalized; so as usual, that is subject to change. Additionally, we hear the device will boast Android OS 2.1, a 1 GHz Processor (Snapdragon?), with a front facing Camera and a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display. This new device will also be flaunting 16GB of onboard storage with T-Mobile preloaded apps for active lifestyle oriented apps. So, basically, given the description, it seems to be a Sidekick handset made by HTC. Coincidentally, PhoneDog has run the exact same detailed description this evening so with not one, but two sources running the same gambit of info we think we are getting warmer on “Project Emerald.”

    Waaa…. a new sidekick kool
Sidekick is all I realy owned.
I am comfortable with my device, dissapointed if they were to be discontinued!!

    Unique phone, why get
Rid of it, I am true to the Sidekick , and will definately buy the new one (sidekick twist) if it is true to be continued!!

  2. Vinchenzo says:

Talked to some of the network and marketing guys. Emerald is looking like something called the Samsung Superior. I threw the Galaxy S name at them and they didn’t know about that.

  3. Vinny says:

This sounds like one heck of a powerful monster. I want one. If this phone comes as described I hope they ad some great looks and a solid build. I would rather pay a few extra bucks for a solid build with good looks then a cheap phone. It looks like T-Mobile has decided to ad quality phones, I wish they would ad the new Blackberry 9650 and the new Pearl. I am a blackberry 9700 owner and wish that we could buy our phone of choice and use it on our carrier of choice. That would be the nuts.

  4. sidekickuser says:

yayy! i would totally go back to sidekicks if they made this. haha it better be sexy, slim, bigger screen, and have the same hindge =] then ill throw my cliq to the side

  5. Wilma Flintstone says:

They bettee hurry and release the rest of the specs on this as well as a release date. If they don’t then they’re going to lose customers to sprint with the EVO. Come on TMO, hurry up.

    • bigc17 says:

I totally agree with you wilma flinstone, if T-Mobile doesn’t release the rest of this megaphones specs, release date and price, alot of good customers just may be lost to sprints evo 4g which comes out in about a week and a half to two weeks, which is right around the corner. This is the one thing that i really don’t like about Tmo, they wait till the last minute to release important info to the customers, that’s the reason they’re the 4th largest phone carrier in the world.

      • Zach C says:

Fourth in the US – Eighth in the World

      • chad says:

Altough T-mobile has fewer American customers than sprint, at&t, and verizon, it’s a bigger company than all of them. Verizon is the 12th largest in the world, at&t is the 13th largest, Sprint isn’t even in the top 30 in the world. T-mobile is the world’s 8th largest phone company, operating mainly in Germany.

I prefer T-mobile out of the 4 because they have the best customer service and the best prices. True, they lack high powered phones, but still, the Cliq or the hd2 is good enough.

  6. azian112 says:

No way this can be the Samsung phone if it ‘MADE BY HTC’. It evens say so in the article “our sources tell us that HTC is in fact the manufacturer”.

    Good going people.

    • mikeyy124 says:

that isnt a fact that its made by htc it could be built by anyone. Just some places think one thing and some think something else

It really sounds like the samsung galaxy s. Android 2.1 galaxy will have, 1 GHz processor galaxy will have, front facing camera galaxy will have, 16GB galaxy is supposed to have 8GB and 16GB versions, super amoled galaxy will have. The only thing off is the galaxy s screen is only 4.0 inch. I’m still betting on it being the galaxy s, especially after seeing that video with the tmo apps on it.

  8. bigc17 says:

I just read on phonearena that htc is coming out with three new phones called (codenamed) the led, vision and glacier. When i kept reading it, it said that the htc vision is probably going to T-Mobile but, they don’t know yet and no more specs were released. Is this maybe the new sidekick twist htc is going to be creating, you decide.

  9. Blargables says:

this will be the phone that will T-Mo some costumers back, at least i hope, better be good and not crap

I thought that the sidekicks has been discontinued???

  12. jake says:

wow this is like my dream phone I have been wanting, hope it come out, sign me up:)

Bouncing from one carrier to another for any given phone…because (in this case) T-Mobile hasn’t kept up for about a year (with android super-phones) is as pathetic as it is dumb. And for all things…the Evo with Sprint? Ha! Do some homework…Sprint’s WiMAX (“4G”) is reliant on Clearwire’s success & is slower than T-Mobile’s HSPA+ and will likely lose in the long-run to LTE…which T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, MetroPCS, & Yota (Russia…switched from WiMAX) are all adopting.

You tech-heads who demand 1ghz processors, front-facing camera’s, etc IMMEDIATELY….or else you prophesy impending doom for T-Mobile and a mass exodus of customers don’t realize that you don’t represent the majority of mobile consumers, many of whom aren’t about to bend over and spend $10 extra bucks a month for a SLIGHTLY faster WiMAX connection that isn’t even offered in their area…and who don’t even comprehend the difference between 600mhz or 1ghz, android 2.1 vs. 2.2…let alone demand it or care enough for it to effect their pocket book every month for 2 years. Get over yourselves.

  14. David says:

Guys 1 ghz is fast but I heard of 1.2 and 1.3 ghz. iphone is coming out if HTC puts a 1.2 or 1.3 and possible 1 ghz ram and 1ghz rom we will doom the iphone and its 23 million phones they put on order. Also HTC make buttons changable to meet our needs not hardwired but changeable so if you download apps like if genuis was an app you can tell the phone to use a certain button. Put a speaker in the front also so we can hear media better.
