Behold 2 Gallery Bonanza

2009-11-02 12.50.35

The Behold 2 is a phone that should, by now, be familiar to our readers as Samsung’s first T-Mobile Android smartphone. We’ve seen pictures before of the device but live images have eluded bloggers everywhere–until now. While not much has seemingly changed from the Galaxy of which the Behold 2 is derived, this device looks ready to stand on its own. With the TouchWiz interface combined with Android users will get the best of both worlds, with a cube like interface capable of adding a little flair or the standard menu available to do that little thing called multitask. Arriving on November 18th with an expected street price of $249.99 the Behold 2 looks to capture Android marketshare on T-Mobile quickly and without mercy. I hope the latter is true because this looks like one sexy device and that’s exactly what Android on T-Mobile needs right now.

    Mhmmm Behold 2 Goodness :)

  • Pedro

WOW! That’s a nice phone! I LOVE that it has Androind. I’m sick of my sidekick crapping out on me. Come to papa.

How’s the battery life? And what are the specs if possible?

  • paul

any idea on the specs ? Whats the processor speed?? hope it’s better then the my touch..if not,,why buy it..

  • Wii60

    Confirm the processor! 800 Mhz?

  • laCandela

We’ll it does lok sexy but can it replace my BB need more info will swing by store

  • Pedro

I’m waaay to excited for this, lol.

  • paul

800 is a good number, my touch is 528 I believe ..now we’re talking about getting serious about android apps..it should run much more smooth with that type of power..it is after all about processor speed…hey does anyone know if 249.00 is a even more price or even more plus price?? I wonder how much to just walk in the door and buy one..

  • Pedro

    @ paul

    Probably like $400 I’m thinking.

  • http://tmotoday dannydarko

thank you for these photos my tatse buds are tantalized . someone sent me a link which i sent to ya ll that shows all the phones stats i mean everyone of them check the link

  • playthecharade

Maybe im missing something but…what exactly does this do differently from the other current android phones besides a rumored 800mhz proc and a hyped up touchwiz “cube” side interface that justifies a $250 price tag? I mean, sure the touchwiz thing is unique but is it functional/useful when the android interface is great as it is? The only thing that makes this thing stick out to me is the possible 800mhz proc, but even then, snapdragon 1ghz proc are just around the corner

  • Wii60

    @playthearcade

3.5 mm jack, AMOLED screen with deep blacks. It’s a very low power screen, but is so much better. Battery life on this thing will be superb. More Memory too. This thing is miles ahead of the MT3G.

  • Galen20K

800 Mhz is not bad at ALL considering they are underclocking Snapdragon on some phones to this speed who knows maybe this processor is ALSO being underclocked. I really like the design on the back also, its really Nice!

  • disney10

    is the touchwiz cube customizable?

  • SocietyOne

@Playthecharade. 5 megapixel camera with flash may very well be the big price booster.

  • TravMobile

We’ve all seen this phone 1000x’s … how about some specs.

Also, can we please start listing the non-contract price for these phones? T-Mobile is leading the way for contract obsoletion. Help them by letting people know what the phones truely cost.

  • rufphus

Is that a with Google logo I see?

  • playthecharade

Ah ok thanks for the points. I forgot about the amoled and the flash on the camera haha But hopefully the increased battery life is significant, thatd be awesome. This seems pretty solid, but i still say it should go for no more than $200, but thats just me.

Anyways ill be crossing my breath and waiting for the sony ericsson x3/x10/infinity/rachael/whatever it is to be unveiled tomorrow

  • BooBah

Hey, that 1500 mAh batter is huge. HUGE! I’ve been holding out all summer for a new phone, and now I know why. I was sort of interested in the droid, but I don’t want to pay those prices for exchange access, and this camera looks sweet.

My guess is that TMo is not throwing a lot of subsidy $ at this becuase they expect people to go the no contract route.

  • tm0EMP

    Has qualcomm 528mhz processor. 256 ram…. like the cliq…

  • Brent Johnson

Does anyone know the final specs of the Behold 2?

I was reading earlier news about it, and it said it only had a 1000 mAh battery, while the G1 has 1150 mAh battery. We all know that the G1 battery sucks, and I tried one of those extended batteries for about 1 day… the bulk it adds to the camera, the weight too, that’s just ridiculous. I’d love to get this phone, but I’m not gonna go through this battery issue again. Not for this kind of money.

Also, speed and memory. If it isn’t somewhat better than the G1, it could very well be a deal breaker for me as well.

  • tm0EMP

Non-customizable cube. Rather pointless. $249.99 on 2 year contract.

  • paul

i agree with “playthecharde” if the only difference is 800 mhz then we should wait to see what snap dragon has to offer…besides, don’t you all want something more then 3.2″ of pure pleasure??? I know I do..size does matter and in this case so does speed.

  • onwaitinglist

    TMo-USA:
I’d really apperciate you be very clear to me. are you going release any Android/ UMA phone?

    If yes, I will buy a 9700 on its release day, and patiently wait for next Andorid/UMA;

If not, I will leave you for Driod & Storm 2 in the coming Friday.

Is that too much to ask?

    Please nevermind my post above.
I started writing it, went searching then came back. Already answered by then.
    Sorry.

  • 30014

This is the first time in a long time that I’m actually looking forward to a tmo phone dropping, but not at the 250 price point.

  • tm0EMP

    Battery is between 1420-1450mAh.

  • Brent Johnson

    Please ignore my questions above.
I started writing, went off searching for my answers, came back. Already answered.
    Sorry.

  • paul

so if this has 528 processor why would anyone buy this thing..another under powered device to settle for…this is getting re-god-damn-diculus….

  • J-Hop2o6

I wonder if u can turn off TouchWiz, so you’ll have the standard AndroidUI.. and can u turn off MotoBlur to show the standard AndroidUI??

  • Billy Clinton

I got to play with one at my store today, we got our demo in. The Samsung rep came in as well with one, but he didn’t know squat for specs; I knew more than him. :-/
The cube is not customizable. The screen looks fantastic. There are some neat tricks in it, like the way photos/songs/youtube vids slide up and down in the interface. Reminds me a bit of Touch Flo 3D on WinMo. The keyboard is a bit different than HTC’s, and seems a bit more customizable (like with haptic feedback and auto completion and auto capitalization). All in all, a solid Android phone, but I don’t know about for $250. The Samsung rep today mentioned something about it being lower priced than the MT3G/Cliq, but again, he didn’t know what he was talking about, so take that with a grain of salt…

  • paul

Hey Billy, can you confirm 528 mhz processor??this is the big item for me, I would rather wait for more processor speed then buy another under powered device. Whats your take on this issue??

  • Brad H

Guys, look at the frame, screen position, battery, and side buttons. THIS IS THE i7500 GALAXY. 528mhz ARM11. Only difference is that this has TouchWiz and they changed the buttons on the front a little. Everything else is exactly the same. Booooring.

Anyone know the Android version? Is it 2.0(eclair)? I need a Blackberry replacement. If this syncs Exchange Calendar and Contacts out of the box I think we have a winner that can get me to switch from my Pearl. Pleezzzz don’t screw this one up, T-Mobile……

  • Wii60

For everyone saying this is the Galaxy. Yes and No. While this could still have the 528, Samsung will use the 800 Mhz processor in the i6500 Saturn. As it operates within the same chassis, it is likely that the 800 Mhz board will be used in this US version of the Galaxy. Some changes have already been made to it anyways.

  • steven

i wonder how effective the touchwiz cube ui is

  • paul

not sure who will carry this phone yet, but it does have all the t-mobile frequencies so I think you should check it out, alot of videos as well..check out engadget.com under

    Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10

    wow ,,,what a phone

  • Brent

At the very least it looks like you can just ignore the touchwiz cube.

The X10 looks impressive, the important thing is that it carries T-Mo 3G frequencies. With T-Mo moving away from subsidized phones anyway, actually being carried is at least a little less important. Better start saving now either way.

  • Xitaxuta

i walked into a t-mobile store today to check out the cliq and i must say its far nicer than the G1. the phone is solid small and actually felt same weight or even ligher.. i really wanted to buy it.. but the phone doesnt cut it for me.. motoblue is nice and all.. and for sure cliq will be a very popular phone.. but when the sales-guy told me the nokia n900 is coming to t-mobile by the end of november for only $199 !! he even told me not to buy the cliq and waited up until it arrives.. and thats what i am gonna do.. i personally got tired of android this unfinished OS !!

  • playthecharade

woah woah, @ Xitaxuta, a tmo rep told you that the nokia n900 would drop for tmobile by the end of november? for $199?!
    Holy hell. I like that.

  • BronxBebe

Samsung Behold 2 is using Android 1.5 or 1.6 according to most sites also the 800mhz cpu. It will be upgraded to the Android 2.0 when?Hopefully shortly after it comes out.

  • http://www.fugeelama.com Carlos

The on-screen keyboard scares me… hopefully it won’t be too long before someone hacks a ROM that allows you to run vanilla Android 1.6…

  • James

Im sorry but if this phone is $249, it’s overpriced..someone mentioned that it would cost more because of the 5mp cam and flash..welll there is this lil phone coming out from Verizon with a 5mp cam/flash and much, much better specs for $199..so what’s the justification of this phone being $249? The rumored 800mhz processor is nothing compared to OMAP 550mhz/seperate graphics processor setup of the Droid (the same set up in the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre) My point is that this phone should be $179 tops, if Tmo really wants to compete. Just like the Cliq should have been $99-$149. I see all this hype about upcoming phones, but if this phone costs $249 for what should be considered a middle to upper middle line phone, what will Tmo charge if they got the Droid? The SE Xperia X10, the Nokia 900? <>

  • Yaniv

Theres no way this can be a 528Mhz processor! Not at that price point.
The N900 is comin out of the gate with the OMAP 3430… the X10 (hopefully coming to Magenta) is sporting the snapdragon…. why would Sammy bring this phone out to compete with 10 other phones with the same specs (besides AMOLED).
How is it that theres less than 3 weeks till the release of this thing and I cant find ANYWHERE solid specs.
Last site I found (china mobile) listed it as the same specs as the Memento minus the keyboard. (800 Mhz).

  • pedro

T-Mobile needs to share some news about this phone QUICKLY! With the imminent release of the Droid on Friday, those of us who are just itching to get an Android smartphone might make a decision based on that tough-to-resist human act of IMPULSE.

If I knew the specs, then I MIGHT be able to hold-back on a Droid purchase until Nov. 18th. On the other hand, VZ might have a 14-day return policy that overlaps the T-Mobile release date of the Behold II, which might allow hands-on analysis of both the Droid and Behold 2 without fear of getting caught in the contract.

Hmmm…T-Mobile…hope you are reading this! Get on it…

  • mikeeeee

    @onawaitinglist

    we’re in the same boat.

i want a UMA android as i have to carry around 2 phones right now.

what about if t-mo came out with a router similar to att’s UMA deal that worked on all 3-g phones?

think that might be a little better?

after shopping around verizon, sprint and att’s stores recently and dealing with suitless clowns, i’m staying here.

    simple………

    i’m staying here.

  • Ricardo

I pretty much decided 2 yr’s back that i will never get a phone w/o a physical keyboard. I played around with the Behold 2 and the Tap at the store yesterday and they solidified this decision. Right now i have the cliq and i’m happy. Now if i had the option of getting the droid on T’mobile, the Cliq would be out the window. But after being with t-mobile for so long, the droid does not make me want to switch to verizon. T-mobile getting 2.0 is an inevitability. T-mobile getting better devices is an inevitability. Them going out of business is the only thing that could stop that. A little patience is required. If you look at the phones t-mobile had out last January to the phones they have now and are planning to get, you can’t compare. T-mobile does not have the luxury of focusing on a single customer base like verizon who with 89 million customers in America can or the luxury of having customers who have their phone and tv services getting their mobile services as well. I’ll be the first to admit that i get angry when i see better phones on other services. But then i realize that you can’t judge t-mobile and other services on the same scale. When T-mobile puts a phone out, it is literally testing the market to see how it will do. Look at the Touch Pro 2. There was no marketing done for that phone. None. I’m willing to bet the house that when R&D got that phone they knew it wasn’t going to sell that well. That is probably why it’s price was so high compared to other companies. With a smaller customer base, 34 million, t-mobile America can’t afford to take big risk. T-mobile will always find itself between survival and profit.

WOW i’m reading this and realized boy did i go on a tangent. But reading so many t-mobile needs to step it up post and t-mobile phone sucks post and t-mobile doesn’t have 3g every where post(lol, i wouldn’t be suprised if i wrote a couple myself), today i suddenly had an epiphany. All this stuff just came out of no where in me.

  • Pat

Actually I was going to get this phone but with all the new ones coming out I’m waiting to see whats up next. I currently have a Behold and love it but I still miss WNM as I liked it to tell me who was calling with voice. I am an older person and need ease of use!

I will never leave TMO! Why cause these stupid people, at VZW, Att, Sprint who service we the consumers have no care or concern about what I as an older consumer need help with, from use of the phone to paying my bill. I’m sticking to TMO and never looking back.

So come on TMO and show us those phones–ASAP!

  • http://www.mwd.com Joe

I don’t know if some of you guy’s are blind or what?

Battery is 1500mhz just look at the damn picture :)

  • kershon

@ Ricardo. I whole heartedly agree with you. Very nice tangent. But your are right.
@Pat. I too have been in the other carrier’s stores. Not recently, but I have had all of them except ATT. Most I have talked to are either arrogant, uncaring, or just plain don’t give a damn. I have never had a bad experience with either customer service or a store rep since I have been with T-Mo.
