More G1 news, some phone's shipping…

So unless you are new to the wireless world or have just been living under a rock you know what next Wednesday is. So for those of you who chose not to do the pre-sale we got ourselves a nice little list of some things to be aware of for next Wednesday:

Customers waiting in line will be handed out tickets according to desired color for purchase (Bronze/Brown and Black only) These tickets will correspond directly to store inventory.
Tickets will contain 5 key features of the device.
Maximum of 5 handsets per account.
NO phones will be sold without the data add-on.
RUMOR only: No phones will be sold at full retail, Activations and Upgrades only.
G1 “experts” will be on hand to demo the phone as well as pre-qualify Individuals for purchase.
Greeters will be assigned to retail stores to you know greet you.
Someone called a “line lead” will be there to entertain customers and keep them happy while waiting. Anything less than balloon animals and I’ll be disappointed.

T-mobile definitely sounds like they have a great understanding of how to handle crowd control and keep customers “happy and entertained” while awaiting their turn. This is of course more than AT&T can say after the recent 3G iPhone launch which ranks among the most disorganized activity this side of 3rd grade dodgeball.

Update: Judging by today’s recent comments here, forum threads here and here some of you are starting to finally get some trade off for your endless barrage of UPS tracking inquiries. That’s right, an undeterminded number of people are able to get an arrival date for their G1. Grown men are now weeping in front of computer screens everywhere. Of course three day shipping means the phone could come as early as Friday and we must reiterate that here at Tmonews we DO NOT encourage the tackling of any UPS employee who is walking around in your neighborhood. We don’t condone that activity, but we’ll take pictures. Kidding!

Finally got an update in Virginia, just outside of DC. Billing info rec’d on 10/16. At least it’s in the system so I now know it’s coming. Every upgrade I’ve ever done the phone has arrived one day after shipping with normal ground. Hopefully it will actually ship soon.

They said that I couldn’t come pick it up because the warehouse is closed on the weekend…the customer service rep said the soonest I could get the package was Monday, so I said, “Does that mean I’ll get it on Monday?” and she said yes. However, if UPS updates tonight and says it will get delivered on the 22nd instead, she said I could ask them to hold it at the warehouse and I can pick it up Monday. Whew!

@T1 – Probably. I wouldn’t want them just dropping it on my doorstep anyway, lol… just got off the phone with a UPS rep and she told me one attempt of delivery has to be made before I can pick it up or reroute the delivery. I was hoping they could simply reroute it to my work first thing Monday. :(

Ok, latest and greatest – we (folks in Atlanta metro) can check UPS Sunday evening, and if it’s showing as arrived at the center (for me, it’s the one off of Pleasantdale Rd – only 15 min. from me!), they can send a message to the center to hold the phone (heh), and I can come pick it up as soon as they open Monday morning before work, so I can play with it at my desk. >:)

@Jess – I love the FBI in you girl! LMAO! That’s a shame we have to act like secret agents trying to plot how to get it the fastest way from UPS!! Interception!!! Hmmm, that sounds like a plan except for the fact that I am not going to want to work and will be somewhere hiding in the office trying to play with the phone! Hmmm, maybe I should start coughing today…not feeling so good right now…ya know? ;)

I have actually ran the battery down twice in like the 15 or so hours I have used it, but I have pretty much not set it down. So excluding sleep, got the phone at 11 fully charged, charged it from 730 to 10, then charged it again from 230 to 5. But from 11 to 730 everyone who didn’t get one around me played with it.
Pacman is fun, but its better with the track ball.
The finger painting program is fun. S
hop savvy is cool, but has very few products as of yet. It had coffee mate, but no prices, and compressed air, which is shockingly expensive.
I can see my apt on street view.
This is the fastest phone on edge t-mobile has ever had. You folks that are actually in the 3g markets should have a total blast.
I turned on the GPS, in my Lazyboy, just to see the error message all the tech blogs say they get, and bam, instant hook up on Google maps. Had me located in like 4 seconds. Maybe that was just a stroke of luck but much smoother then I have read on blogs at large.
Today I am going to goof around with the WIFI.

I work for t-mobile, we got to order a amount of phones on Monday, as a employee presale. I speak in an excited manner, due to the fact there are excited peoples on the thread, if you don’t like the info from someone posting with the phone in hand skip my posts, and find out for yourself when you get the phone, okay pimp?
Oh yeah, you should check again on Monday, yours is the 3 day, so you should see shipping up at some point that afternoon, and depending were you pull from on shipping locations you could actually see it on Tuesday.

Even the stuff that is “bad” on the phone isn’t bad, people just expected the phone to be perfect, and its pretty close. I think is mighty fine. A little spit and polish, and some 3rd party aps to make up for the few things that it does lack, like the total punting of an on screen way to type, the phone should be sound as the pound.
Just a few more days, and you will be an android to.
Its totally worth the wait.

@T1 – They said I can pick it up before they even attempt it as long as I call them when it says “destination scanned” before it says out for delivery. Maybe that’s just here…I don’t know babes but that’s what two UPS reps just told me. She said if it says out for delivery then I will have to wait after the 1st attempt.

Dang, but they don’t open until 9 a.m.

so has anyone gotten decent sleep in the last couple of days. im off today went to the studio last night got home four thirty this morning and im up by ten checking ups(i got these cheeseburgers man)called them and tmo(cheese burgers)check the ivr no changes but something tells me thier in the system. still tho cheesburgers man got some.

@ S.P.O. & Kevman – I really am super excited to finally have my own, too. A lot of people around me keep saying that the G1 won’t be that great and to wait for the next one. Many of them also have iPhones – ha. I normally don’t buy things when they first come out, but the G1 really does look promising. So what, I took a chance. They need to stop hating and let me have my fun.. lol. Those who have been faithful to T-Mo deserves it, esp. since we finally got 3G! :D

Now I’m gettin my scheduled delivery date on 10/20. She said it was coming from Kentucky. The first time I called she really didn’t have much info…but the secons time she had my name, address and delivery date, destination center, etc. I’m just waiting on the scan that its there (dest. ctr). Boy oh boy….if they scan it before 7 p.m. I’m picking it up tonight!

Yo I still don’t have my rescheduled delivery date and it was billed on 10/15. But I’m sure I’ll have it by Monday. I was gonna go do the early voting thing but I think playing with my G1 is more important. J/K. Actually if it comes early enough I can entertain the people in the voting lines.
