G1 email troubles plaguing early adopters??

For the G1, word on the street and in the hands of the users has been a fairly positive user experience, until they tried the email. Recent reports have pop3/imap accounts on the G1 plagued with troubles, while gmail is of course working just peachy. Between connection errors, messages not sending/receiving and other errors, email problems are plaguing users everywhere.

While early reports focus on comcast users, the troubles don’t seem to be specific to any email provider and don’t differ depending on the email account While the “official” word from T-mobile shows this problem being researched with the highest priority, that doesn’t do much in the way to solve the immediate problem. Early adopters are the bread and butter of phone launches now and as word leaks out about such early difficulties especially something so monumentally wrong as email usage it could turn off those who had planned to pick up the phone in the near future. I suppose the flip side to all this is to get the problems out of the way quickly and let future buyers, the less geeky and the less savvy enjoy the phones without the early buying headaches.

Via the official T-mobile forums, no relation to us of course, the Administrator had this to say:

“We used to see similar errors and symptoms with the old MyEmail service and the new Consumer Email Client.  Those are found on regular phones, but do encounter issues when there are more than 100 e-mails on the POP server or when there are emails with relatively large attachments.””

They are asking for anyone with troubles to report the nature of their problem in an effort to help T-mobile solve this problem sooner rather than later. Users report that deleting and re-adding the account has not worked nor has dropping the email count below 100 on the server. So for the moment, thou must endure and hopefully a fix is right around the corner.

    I’m with Kevman on this. A $300 phone…I’m pissed right along with you…let’s see what happens. If not…these G1’s are gonna start being returned in huge numbers.

    Please don’t be like that.If your saying your not supposed to be complaining for $300 then your crazy because the 1st IPhone cost twice as much and look ho many problems they had.Apple even had a recall so unless your some important person(no offense) stop the stupidity and give things a chance.Every1 wants to compare the G1 to the IPhone but there will never be a G1 like the Iphone cause the G1 is the G1 with it own OS and it can be similar or better but stop the comparing.If you wanna use the Iphone as a comparison then compare how the 1st Iphone had by far more issues when it was released and it took months to deal with em.The G1 has less issues and because any1 can create apps the issues will be fixed in half the time.I’m 100% certain about this.Also it took forever for the Iphone to get a video recorder and the G1 will have 1 by the end of Jan I bet.

    I’ve been reading just about everybody’s comments and I don’t remember where Kevman was comparing the IPhone to the G1. He has a valid complaint that “HIS” G1 is not working as it should. Whether it will be fixed quicker than the IPhone is irrelevant because it shouldn’t have those problems in the first place. I don’t have my G1 just yet, but I certainly don’t want these problems…and whether someone pays $300 or $200 for this phone it should work and you shouldn’t knock him for reporting that its not working.

    The G1 has nothing to do with nor should it be compared with the IPhone and its initial problems. I am absolutely no Apple fanboy, but the IPhone shouldn’t have had those problems either. The complaints are valid if the problems are real.

    I’m having a problem with my SMS threading. I got an SMS notification from my bank in the form of an email and now every SMS I send or receive shows as coming from that address even if I delete the thread. I guess another bug! Anyone else seen a similar problem?

    Btw I just called tmo and rep tells me I ain’t only one sending it back. Sad but true. I am heading to tmo store for look at other phones.
    I have to add new phone to line so I am not without a phone since they say only way is to send it back and I sold my crackberry to friend so I have no backup.

    Lmao..kev every phone to come out including stupid phones like the razr has refunds from technical issues.Let’s be serious though..you and all the other returners equal realistically 15% or less of how many phones were sold so i’d say the G1 is more a success and your G1 was just unlucky.Hope you enjoy your sidekick or blackberry.

    Kevman420 — I sent my G1 back last week also. I could not wait to have problems fixed because I needed email for my business. Luckily I still have my BB. Rep’s hinted at new BBs coming out before the Holidays. I would love to see a 3G BB at TMobile. You may want to wait and see what’s coming before using your upgrade and get something used for cheap for now.

    Huh, I even made fun of that phone in the past. Seems nice after all and I bet the MAIL works!!!
    Claims to have FULL Internet Browsing as well.
    Gonna be without my scanning feature but I can live without it as long as everything else works.
    Seems to have nice camera with flash too…AND Video taking as well.
    Sorry but I gotta do it.
    I dont have alot of money to THROW away!!!

    How am I supposed to trust that one is gonna fix wwhat I need when NO one can even give me time an update will come.
    The rep I just talked to knew NOTHINg about an update. The one this moring told me TODAY.

    I am a liitle concerend that TMO is gonna blame google and google is gonna blame TMO..
    Its a valid concern since they are the ones making me think this way!!!

    @nyer you are not a fair person dude heres why i say that…. how can you send your phone back last week? it came out last week. and you shouldn’t be telling anyone to return thier phones, let the man make up his own mind if he wants to return it let him if he doesn’t they hey. i understand why you did it. because of your email and i can relate to that especially in the business world. remember when the jobsphone first came out(yes i went there)problems galore people were bashing it on att but i never heared one of them say im sending my phone back they stuck through it and is still sticking though it(loyalty)and the one email and battery was worst than what the g1 is experiencing with more problems on top of that, but yet the g1 is a peice of crap so much of a piece of crap it went back in the same week. you said your son has one dont be surprised if you see him pushing exchange mail faster than you in a couple of weeks of even days.

    T1 — I got it Monday and tried working with CS all week and ended up spending more time trying to get G1 to operate as advertised versus trying to make sure I can pay the mortgage (and my Tmobile bill) on time. After 5 days of not a single new email being sent to the G1, on Friday I gave up and sent it back. If you don’t think that is fair, I guess we have a different standard of what we expect from a service provider.

    As I said previously, I have nothing against TMobile or the G1. I have never before had problems with their customer service and I actually like the G1 hardware (except for the battery). I think it is nicely designed and feels solid. The touch screen is very responsive and I already miss the the resposive 3G connection. I also believe that corporate rushed the product to market without giving their CSRs proper training and support.

    All I am saying is that it may not be right for everyone at this time. I did not tell anyone else to send back theirs. Kevman said he was already sending his back. I assume we are all adults and can make up our own minds.

    From what I can see from these messages, there are two very vocal people who have a problem setting up their G1 with a third party email system. And a lot of others who are not having problems. I myself am not having issues with email on my G1 either.

    Is this Google’s fault? I say no. Is the G1 broken because of this? I say no. There are always going to be issues with connecting to third-party systems. Google can only write their apps to support the majority of systems. Same with Apple and RIM. Just because YOU can’t get it to work with YOUR email provider’s proprietary system doesn’t mean the G1 is broken. Most likely it means you just need to contact your email provider’s support and ask them help you set it up properly.

    So, both Kevman and NYer sent their G1 back. No big deal, that’s why we have a choice of phones at TMo. Move along.

    well nyer you did what you had to do to make sure you were comfortable. nothing wrong with that, were human but it looks like the update to rc28 from 19 is gonna fix most of those problems. spoke to a tsr and he said he got the update already and his problems are all gone he just wishes he could save apps to the card from the market which is the same thing i want but i’m willing to stick by the g1 and wait for that to come.

    @uscmed i read another article on the same blog from some bigwig at tmo that said, if we dont recive it by the 26th wait it will be there by the 31st and they said new customers will get it in 2-3 days of activation (probably to keep them around)and regular customers but they are difinetly comming.

The buffer overrun flaw lets hackers hijack the Web browser on a user’s T-Mobile G1 smart phone, which is Google’s first big entry into the mobile and wireless game to deliver users mobile Web services. Miller bought a G1 early from a T-Mobile employee on eBay to test his exploit. Google said it is working with T-Mobile on delivering a fix to the device.

    I text someone an they keep replying back to stop sending them all periods in my texts.

    All they get are periods in SMS text..

    Whats that got to do with my Email client.
    Its messgaing errors too.
    I only hope the patch comes to me sooner.
    And why cant they push it out to people who call in and are are having REAL issues.

    Now I am begging for an update…

    the biowallet was supposed to be out on release date as so was 100z more but as ican see they’ve only been overflowing 2day so im not sure.its created already so just a release is needed.i hope it comes out by months end.

    Wow who woulda thought my G1 can be a flashlight.I love this app.Its not bright as a real flash light but its bright enough to see things in the dark within 2ft.I just tried it and it actually works.puts ur phone on bright mode and screen goes all white.Very usefull when tryna open a door in the dark.I feel like this phone was made just for me lol.

    I bet black berry rim device and sidekick was like this..OH WAIT.. black berry rim devices haven’t released there official apps store yet have they.NOOOO and sidekick doesn’t even have a good browser like the G1,iphone and WM phones so what makes you think they’d have an apps store.open base apps from anyone was a genius idea.Now we can custom make our phones.

    I currently have a sidekick lx and i’ll be the first to say that this web browser is no where near like the G1/iphone those to have the best browsers sidekick browser sucks ass you don’t even the actual website you get the mobile version can’t wait for my g1 to come taking forever

    I don’t have my phone yet, but I’ve been looking at the app market at http://www.android.com/market/ and I don’t see any new apps. Is it the app market the phone goes directly to? If so, will someone post that site up so I can check it out?
