Up to $50 off all T-Mobile iPhones from tomorrow

iphonepricingdrop

T-Mobile sent out notices to staff today informing them that iPhone pricing is set to change. From tomorrow, Aug 27, iPhone device only pricing will drop by up to $50. Included in the price drop are all models of the current iPhone range plus any older models stores might still have in stock.

So far, we’re yet to see any specific pricing on individual models and devices, but the “up to $50″ in the memo would suggest that not every single model is going be dropped by $50. We’ll update the post if we get news of any specific data on these before the offers go live tomorrow. If not, we’ll publish a list of the changes once they’re official in the morning.

It’s no surprise to see a price drop on iPhone given the upcoming device launch. Apple is expected to announce a brand new generation of iOS-powered smartphones on September 9th. And if rumors are anything to go by, the “iPhone 6″ will make all current versions redundant with its 4.7-inch higher resolution display, A8 chip and ultra-slim chassis.

Can’t wait for the 6 to come out. As long as it supports band 12 I’ll be selling my 5s to buy it. If it doesn’t then I’m waiting until an iPhone supports band 12

    • Goat

      I think it will :D

      • Mike Palomba

I really hope it does because I’m dying for an iPhone with a bigger screen

        • Andrew

Me too! I hate how the iPhone 5 and 5S have awkward elongated screens. D:

        • Mike Palomba

I know right! I just repaired a cracked screen on an s4 yesterday and I used it for a few minutes to make sure everything worked right and I was like,” damn this thing has a nice screen” I’ve had an s4 In the past but I haven’t used one since I got my iphone

        • donnybee

          It’s a 16:9 screen ratio. It’s not really awkwardly elongated :)

        • Paul

I think it’s a smart move by Apple to offer a model that keeps with the current size for those that want it, while offering an option for those that do want more screen real estate.

        • Goat

When I downsized from my G2 to the Iphone 5S, I thought I was going to go blind or something. Very awkward for me to use when I switched! Can’t wait for it.

        • Mike Palomba

Exact same situation I was in. I downsized from my g2 to the 5s and I loved everything about it except for the tiny screen. I’ve gotten used to it now but every time I see a phone with a big screen I wish my iphone has a screen that big too

    • besweeet

I sold my iPhone 5s last week. Personally, I’m fine if it doesn’t have band 12, since it would be something for Apple to talk about during next year’s iPhone announcement. Performance where I live and visit has been fine with their existing band 2 and 4 coverage. Of course, that will vary for other people.

      • Mike Palomba

I have good performance where I am as well but the problem is building coverage. My city has full 700mhz coverage so I’m hoping to take advantage of it

        • besweeet

Same here. The worst I’ve experienced is dropping down to EDGE (which is mostly usable for very basic tasks for me, not the typical “unusable” experience) deep inside some buildings. Though there were a few times where I had a few bars of HSPA+ yet data was quite slow. Would definitely be nice to have band 12 support now so that people can experience it.

        • Mike Palomba

Yea that’s exactly how I feel

        • Aurizen

I didnt know T-Mobile has any 700 mhz

        • Mike Palomba

Tmobile has a lot of 700mhz but it won’t be active until next quarter of this year

        • Aurizen

oh the A-Block spectrum! right I thought before they didn’t have any.

        • redman12

          http://specmap.sequence-omega.net/

How do you like them apples :)

      • JamesG

Why would apple talk about it during next years event? They never talk about what bands their iphone supports

        • besweeet

But they have mentioned their devices “supporting the most bands of any phone” in the past. Band 12 will be important for a lot of phones and future smartphone buyers.

        • JamesG

Apple likes to boast a lot if you’ve never watched their keynote…

        • besweeet

Exactly why it’s something that may talk about at some point, being one of the only/early phones to have support for it, next month or next year.

        • JamesG

That’s not what I mean by boast. I mean them saying things like “magical”, “innovative”, “best” and don’t forget “different”

  • Really

So there NO news on the HUGE layoff at T-Mobile today on TMO NEWs?

    • http://www.t-mobile.com Big-Myke Kanuri

      OoOH Do tell….

      • Really

Not sure how many total but heard it was overlap from Metor Markets and they were cutting both Metro and TMobile emplyees today. I feel for everyone involved, Legere still gets his 43 million in Stocks though. Im sure he is very happy.

        • Trevnerdio

That’s sad, but sadly necessary :(

        • http://www.t-mobile.com Big-Myke Kanuri

Definitely a sad situation. No matter how I feel about someone or something, I never like to see other people get axed. I’m in CS myself.

        • Idiotsthewholelot

          Source?

        • Paul

I’m with Idiotsthewholelot in expressing interest in your source. If anything, you should share it with Cam so he could find out more about it.

        • donnybee

That sentiment is so overplayed. I’m sure he’s been laid off in his life more than once as well, and he got to where he is by working hard and following his vision, which we’re now all benefiting from. If it wasn’t for Legere, T-Mobile would have had to do layoffs as they kept sinking and cutting costs to stay afloat.

        • Dakota

That’s what happens when you have a public company bent on profits. That’s the only thing Tmobile cares about & what drives every decision. They’re not your “friend”.. They’re not doing things because they have a kind heart. Its business… And business is a dirty business

    • bob90210

That’s because Cam’s sources were probably laid off.

  • lani

Its that time of the year, $50 off sale, with hopes of clearing some inventory before the iPhone6 is released.

    • Dakota

So on an eip, that’s a couple bucks a month? Don’t really think that will make or break someone’s budget and cause people to storm the stores. Don’t iPhone msrp usually drop 100 when new devices launch?

      • monkeybutts

Yes unless the phone is replaced. iPhone 5 kept it’s resale value pretty well cause no one wanted a 5c. No clue if they’ll pull something as dumb this year with the 5s or just bump it down.

        • Hiro

Actually, the 5c was a lot more popular than people realize. People call it a flop, but it was one of the top selling smartphones. iPhones in general keep their value pretty well for a while.

  • Nick Ramacciato

    Which stores?

    • JamesG

      Any tmobile store?

  • Volker

So is this for phones purchased outright only or also ones put on EIP? Do salespeople get commission on outright phone purchases? I think I remember reading they only get commission on phones sold with EIP but I could’ve misunderstood. If it’s the case however I don’t see a lot of salespeople letting customers know about this.

    • Paul

I’m sure if you can walk out the door with the phone then the discount applies; EIP or outright purchase. It doesn’t specify in the clip that’s posted, so I’m 95% sure this is the case.

  • javid

looks like the prices are live now…. 48 off the Iphone 5s and 49.92(?!) off the Iphone 5…

  • Dakota

$50 seems lame with a new iPhone coming on less than a month. Unfortunately Tmobile customers can no longer take advantage of all the discounts and promotions third party retailers do. (Even vVerizon is doing a 50% off subsidy promotion… So thats $100 off a customers out of pocket iPhone price..)

    • Andrew Beard

Considering Apple normally only drops the price of it’s previous models $100 when a new model comes out it doesn’t seem to bad to me. If it’s really a big deal you have less than a month to wait.

  • donnybee

What I think would be cool is if T-Mobile did promotions where they paid your sales tax. Then you literally could walk out of the store paying nothing for your new device! It’s probably the same amount discounted as they have here, which I would also like to see more, but no sales tax would make it so much easier for everyone.

    • TylerCameron

A business can’t run like that. They HAVE to charge taxes. Unless the actual price of something is nothing.

      • donnybee

“What I think would be cool is if T-Mobile did promotions where they paid your sales tax.”

Promotion? As in not permanent..? Please tell me you get it.

It wouldn’t be the first time in all of history where a company decided to run a promo where they’ll pay your sales tax. Unless you think I’m brilliant and came up with that all on my own! In which case, thanks, but I’m going to have to spoil your excitement and let you know that this is a real thing. Surprise!

    • JamesG

The tax doesn’t go to Tmobile so it would only benefit the cheap ass like you

      • donnybee

Wow you’re so informative. I bet you feel smart for knowing the tax doesn’t go to T-Mobile!

        Duh.
Nobody in their right mind would think the sales tax goes to T-Mobile. Fortunately, I don’t live under a rock, and I’ve seen places in various businesses do PROMOTIONS where they will pay your sales tax. This would benefit everyone, and would essentially be the same as them taking $50 off the price of the phone, but in a manner that affects you when you actually buy the phone.

..But I digress. I’m a little hung up on your apparent wealth of knowledge – let’s see how smart you REALLY are: if not to T-Mobile, then where does the tax money go??
And I really hope you answer this haha

    • qmc

That would only really be meaningful in states where tax is charged on the unsubsidized price of the phone. Actually… this should affect T-Mobile customers everywhere now that there are no subsidies.

  • Hiro

$50, oh yeah.. that’s got me really excited! *rolls eyes* Why would anyone who isn’t in urgent need of a new phone RIGHT NOW do this instead of waiting for a month or so til the iPhone 6 and the bigger discounts on the “older” iPhones.
