T-Mobile Pushing Patch For Samsung Exynos Exploit To Galaxy Note II Devices?

Galaxy Note II owners should be on the lookout this morning as a small software update is being pushed to your device. Rumor has it the update is a patch for the Exynos software bug Samsung promised to fix back in the middle of December.

While T-Mobile has yet to update their Galaxy Note II support page indicating the update weighing in at 8.74MB is on the way — the baseband version does appear T889UVALL4, and not T889UVALK8.

Some are speculating this update may unlock LTE on the Note II, but we’re much more inclined to believe this is a patch for the Exynos bug.

We’ll update as soon as we hear something official.

  • bryck

    Installing mine as we speak.

  • mreveryphone

Woke up this morning and thought it was 5.0! Oh well I’ll take a fix for security any day.

    • g2a5b0e

I hope you’re not serious. I’ll be satisfied if we get 4.2 before 5.0 comes out.

      • mreveryphone

You’re too serious in the a.m lol

Got a message. Software update is being provided in order it was requested. Try again later. What?!?!?

    • g2a5b0e

Got the same message. Guess I’ll try again later.

    • bryck

      try samsung kies.

    • Chris

OTA updates are pushed in small batches. So that if something went terribly wrong, all users are not affected. If you really like to update, update using kies.

  • Matt

You can all check to see if this included LTE by going to mobile networks, then network mode. See if there is an LTE option.

    • johnblack86

Checked and there is no LTE option for me after the update.

    • Rudy Belova

Not here but if i enable LTE manually in the diagnostics page, i do see metropcs here in Los Angeles. Won’t let me on but it is visible.

  • johnblack86

I got the update this morning as well. Everything seems the same so I guess it’s the security fix.

  • Dmac

No option for LTE in network settings so that is a no go right now. The latest sw update for the s3 enabled the option to select LTE, don’t know why they didn’t throw in in with this patch. But! It maybe just me, could swear the screen no longer lags when I turn the backlight on! That used to drive me nuts!

Error message for me, starting try again later. Kies does not work for me, so I will try again later. Oh well.

  • AndroidProfit

It will be the best you ever had…trust me.

  • mingkee

I updated GN2 this morning through Kies.
Somehow the phone wouldn’t update itself and I have to hook it up with Kies and it’s done.

  • eanfoso

I haven’t received anything in my note II yet, last time I received it OTA with the multi windows, but this time nothing yet

  • Nick

Tried for an update and got this: “software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. try later”

Never seen that before. What the heck does that mean?!

    • http://www.youtube.com/#/mrjlwilliams J. Williams

      Same here

  • Richard Yarrell

Yes sir 2am update this Wednesday morning. Sammy taken care of business.

  • steve1026

What about us galaxy s2 owners?

    • Oscar Alvarado

This is a patch that applies to devices that use the exynos chipset, the Galaxy S II isn’t one of those devices.

  • charlieboy808

Just in case you already rooted your device and not able to just download the update, someone on XDA has already put out the Stock ROM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102410

  • yozo

I got the update ota this am. Seems snappier. Haven’t seen any new options.

    Go Samsung!

  • http://www.youtube.com/#/mrjlwilliams J. Williams

If you have not gotten your update, do the following. Turn on your wifi, plug in your phone. Then go into settings, about, software update and it should work. If not, then reboot, and try again. Hope this helps. I got mine after doing so.

  • Rif

mine is still saying “software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. try later” does anyone one know when it will be available???

  • NismoQR25

I am rooted with Exinos Abuse only no flash counter, device status normal. Received OTA installed it. still rooted (correction I lost root)

    • yozo

      What is a flash counter?

      • NismoQR25

Anytime you flash a custom rom or certain exploit it keeps a counter of how many times you flashed it to void your warranty. Triangle away can fix this for you. Exinos abuse was great at not voiding warranties im very sad it seems to be useless now .CF Auto root restored my root access right after OTA.

        • Jeep447

Tripping the flash counter doesn’t necessarily void the warranty automatically, as there have been multiple reports of people who had a tripped counter yet still received warranty repairs. It’s not quite clear what their intentions are yet by implementing a flash counter, but it certainly makes you wonder. If they ever are able to void warranties because of it, then who’s to say Hp can’t void the warranty on a laptop that has a different OS installed than what it came with from the factory? It’s definitely a slippery slope imo.

I received my update this morning. It seems to have tamed the native internet browser that would run mid-morning to the point of making the phone hot.

It did not fix my connectivity issue that TMo can’t figure out (apparently). Daughter has Galaxy S2. Lay them side by side where hers says 4g, mine says ‘E’. She gets 10x the throughput of my Note II.

  • yozo

Update allows video to be moved over screen. Lost my flash player, simply reinstalled it. Whew….

  • MookieT

Got the update on my note 2 n now the wifi is not working is anyone havin this problem

    • MookieT

  • yozo

Another site has users reporting battery drain with latest update. Not with me.

  • Anthony

I’m a student at the Art Institute and can’t fully access the site on my Note 2. I was able to on my Samsung Galaxy S. Anybody having the same problem?

  • sir1jaguar

My Galaxy note 2 battery life is horrible after the latest update… We did the factory reset TWICE and STOP all synching and NO samsung sync too… Fully charged before I got to my bed at 11pm then wake up by 6am – I NEVER TOUCHED IT – battery life is ONLY 65% in the morning…

Before the update with all my accounts sync, when i wake up in the morning the battery still has 90%-95%.

    Tmobile please invesigate this problem…

  • Kahlayoh

Looks like this update is no bueno for some folks!! Battery Drain and a few other things!
