Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S III Specs Leak, Full HD Display In Tow?

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for the second round of the Galaxy S III rumor mill game — behind door number one: more “exclusive” details from the folks at BGR.com. Having already reported that Samsung’s next flagship smartphone would launch simultaneously around the world, BGR is back with some “new” detailed specifications from their sources inside the halls at Samsung. So let’s get right to it:

  • 1.5GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor
  • 4.8-inch “full HD” 1080p resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio display
  • A 2-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera
  • Ceramic case
  • 4G LTE
  • Android 4.0

They are details for certain, but it’s not very detailed. We’re still missing out on a lot of key launch information, including the “when” and “where.” We’re impressed that the Galaxy S III may have a Blu-Ray like display however, more important intel still remain elusive. Let’s hope Samsung doesn’t make us wait too long to find out the story.

    Damn!! A MUST HAVE!

    Fake lol

I’m highly skeptical of the 1080p display.  BGR has been wrong before.  *cough*iphone5*cough*

Tmobile NEEDS this phone to stay alive!

    • Anonymous

Considering that every carrier gets their own version of the SG3, how would this phone keep tmobile alive? Sprint will get their own CDMA/LTE variant, ATT a HSPA+/LTE and verizon a CDMA/LTE. It’s not like Tmobile will get an exclusive.

      • badbob001

Staying alive =  keeping current customers from leaving?

        • Anonymous

Good point(as proven with the lack of iP4S).

padfone will eat this no matter what

sadly none of the US carries have the cohones to get the padfone

    • Kevincarter7

where can i find padfone….thats the asus phone rt? i have the asus tablet i would love that phone. this galaxy 3 is tight also

  • ztmike

I’m pretty sure T-Mobile USA doesn’t have LTE..so not sure why these leaks matter just yet if its not even supported for T-Mobile USA?

    • http://tmonews.com David

Because T-Mobile would likely get an HSPA+ capable device. Samsung could easily produce a handset that works for T-Mobile, just as they did with the Galaxy Nexus, it had both HSPA+ and LTE.

      • http://twitter.com/josemedina1983 Jose Medina

Maybe with a snapdragon S4 chip, Exynos doesn’t support T-Mobiles HSPA+ 42mbps or what ever the number it is unless they fix that with the quadcore exynos. The Galaxy Nexus is running a TI chip and only supports 14mbps HSPA+. PS. You Should do a post of the Nokia 808 it supports T-Mobiles HSPA+ not that anyone cares.

        • Lazaro Casanova

gnex is hspa+ 21…if its true they want to release worldwide at same time I would assume this phone should be pentaband with both lte and hspa+

    • XsavageX

I have a bad feeling tmobile will be left in the dark

  • Anonymous

Fake or not, this is the level of awesomeness that you can expect from the GSIII.  You know it will be Quad-Core, you know it will have a big a$$ HD SuperAMOLED non-pentile screen of 720p or higher(I don’t understand higher but what can you do), and it will more than likely have an edge to edge screen.  I just hope the camera is more advanced tech if it ends up being the same 8MP from a year ago.

Samsung will make a huge splash when this sucker is released.

    • Anonymous

hell yea cant wait for this badboy. just might have to give my gs2 to the wife for this

  • Auser72

Impressive!!!! If they can keep same dimensions of sg2 with bigger screen , then its a go.

  • Auser72

I have no faith in a 1080 display in a phone right now

  • 559armo

4.8 inch screen, that just means the battery will die before noon

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/mrjlwilliams?feature=mhee J. Williams

No true on the battery, because my SGNote last for over a day, and it has a 5.3 inch screen.

      • Guest

You have a …. Note???? hahahahahaha
What a loser. Hows da stylus? hahahahahaha

        • http://www.youtube.com/user/mrjlwilliams?feature=mhee J. Williams

          WOW, name calling. Grow up

        • Wilma Flintstone

Actually I wouldn’t mind if Tmo got the Note.  I’d like to try it out.

1080p screen yeah right while i wish this was true its nothing but hoop dreams

  • XsavageX

Let’s just hope tmobile can get it by Xmas

    • Anonymous

Let’s just hope tmobile can get it at all = )

  • JQuest

I have a contract renewal that I have been waiting to use… this might be the phone if at least some of the specs hold out! But I know if whether or not the specs are true, the GS III is going to be a beast of a phone.

Battery life is important to me, but almost negligible being that I always buy a couple spare batteries anyways. I do hope I get at least almost a day, if this phone is indeed a battery eater.

  • Wilma Flintstone

Wow I just love the no bezel display that alot of these new phones are getting.
Yeah this phone will be nice for sure.  Now what will be the specs for the Tmobile US version?
4 inch TFT 720p screen (If that’s even possible)
    1.5mp Front Camera
    5mp Rear Camera
    4G 24mbps HSPA+
    Android 4.0
    Nonremovable battery
    8GB Internal Storage
    No Notification LED
    No SD Card Expansion Slot
    No NFC

Just teasing.  But you know how those things happen unfortunately.  Hopefully Tmo gets a good variant of this device.

    • Anonymous

      FAIL.  It will have
      Resistive Touch screen
DUAL!! 5mp 3D cameras on the front
      84Kbps(comes pre-throttled)
removable liquid battery(I wouldn’t advise removing it)
16GB external storage(but no SD slot, so just a free SD card)
      and KFC.

      • Wilma Flintstone

KFC comes Preloaded?!? I’m upgrading my contract when that hits!  It’s gonna be a bit expensive though.  That KFC isn’t cheap.  Hopefully I can get a Linux Colonel on it. *Shameless Pun* Lol
and a SD (Not MicroSD) card!!!  Where’s that dotted line?!?

        • Anonymous

Lots of time you can get a coupon for the Colonel fried chicken in the Sunday paper! LOL!

       hahaha you know it

    • Realcool2000

Oh yeah hahhaha just like what happened last time the S2 was released for tmo….NOT REALLY.

Nice try hater. Tmo got an awesome GS2 with a bigger screen then some others.

This is the haters section of this thread, it has a wannabe pimp ( yeah even worse than a real one ), a woman that names herself after a dated female cartoon that eats any os that doesn’t exist yet for breakfast, and all its missing michealnotgettinany with some obscure post about how he knows the GS3 is going to be better prepaid on cricket.

      Why u hatin anyway pimpweak…..don’t u have a GS2????!

        I know! Nice try Mikey!

  • http://tmonews.com David

I always find it funny when people post T-Mobile oriented links and don’t just use our articles. Did you not search for it, honestly?

  • Azazellov

Yeah I’m definitely getting this phone when it comes out for T-Mobile, I was going to get an HTC phone but after seeing the HTC One S, I’ll wait for this one. I really doubt it’s a 1080p display but w/e 720p is fine…

  • Anonymous

1080p display? There goes the battery

^ opens wallet………. Screw it gives whole wallet to Samsung. I just got samsunged

This phone will be outdated by the time TMO has sufficient enough LTE coverage to start selling LTE phones.

  • http://twitter.com/iDiotGear Rob Daman

I just got an s2 so now i’m a samsung fan boy. wish they had 3g for the Note.

  • nd5

David, I’d be careful with this rumor.  Not sure exactly how BGR got this info, but it seems like a huge stretch…

Also, btw, if it’s got 4G LTE then I suppose it’s slated for non T-Mobile carriers?  We’re not going to have 4G LTE until 2013, right?

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/mrjlwilliams?feature=mhee J. Williams

No offense, but you act like something is gonna happen if a rumor is wrong, lol.  All these post are rumors until they actual comes to the surface…so we should all have fun with them.

      • http://tmonews.com David

Seriously, this isn’t my rumor, I’m just reposting them. Also, you guys should really consider the case of the Galaxy Nexus before shooting this down. It has both HSPA+ and LTE.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/mrjlwilliams?feature=mhee J. Williams

That’s gonna be a powerhouse of a device, WOW.  Killer specs…hope it lives up to the hype if it’s true.  Amazing..

    • Wizzstar

If I were going to roll with a new TMOUSA smartphone, let’s be for real, for real, it would be Mr. Sammy’s Galaxy S Tray III(3) …(lol) Mr. Sammy is out to Kill the iphone, it’s the iphone killer alright … Mr. Sammy is saying to Apple, don’t hate the player, hate the game, because I’m going to get you …

  • WirelessRefugee

There has to be features that will motivate the typical, unsophisticated user to initially buy or for others to upgrade.

The natural progression for spec improvement, again, that people can relate to, are display quality and size, processor speed, and camera. That’s why, for example, even though all phones could have an 8MP camera, and 1080p HD recording, the mid-range or “last year’s model” do not, so people are motivated to buy something new.

Obviously, it becomes a bit silly if a phone display gets too big, since people don’t want to look like geek morons when talking on a phone larger than a Pop-Tart.

So I see 4.5″ about the largest carriers will go with these “phones.”

And resolution? Yeah, HD, super fine resolution looks great, but at some point it will get to where people can’t read what is on a web page, Word document or e-mail, the type us simply too small.

While HD movies look great, I find even the HD2, G1 or BlackBerry Pearl played movies just fine. And the Vibrant, I loved that display to the point that my “I drink wine by the box, not bottle” eyes can’t tell the difference between a SAMOLED display and anything Samsung might come out with this year.

As to speed, last I observed, I did not see anyone using a stop watch to time how fast their web pages were downloading. I am the same, only a few times, simply out of curiosity, over the past years have I gone to one of those speed checking sites. And when I saw that my phone placed in the middle of the listed phones in terms of performance I did NOT think “I gotta get me a faster phone.” I just logged off and moved on to other business.

I suspect most users are like me, satisfied with what’s on the market currently. Obviously there’s money to be made by bringing out the “II” then “III” of these phones, because that’s the easiest thing for people to understand, “III” is always going to be better than “II.”

Not me, I am happy with my Samsung Galaxy S II and I ain’t going to fall for it any more.

  • Anonymous

I just hope that Samsung decides to upgrade their camera, because they’re definitely going to fall behind in terms of camera specifications compared to Nokia, Sony, “even” HTC, and the rest that I’m too lazy to post.

  • NoX2o02

Too big. Will T-mobile Ever get a high quality full-featured phone that fits nicely in a suit pocket or a dress shirt pocket. Galaxy S2 was a liitle too big for me, but I don’t want to lose camera quality or processor or screen quality going to a smaller device.  I am sure I am in minority here, but some of us stll like a smaller pocketable phone with all the high-end features.
With T-mobile you only have a choice of Huge High-end phones, or smaller “mid-tier” crap…no offense.

    • Anonymous

so im guessing u never adopted bigger tvs and ur stuck with a 16in tube tv right? u probably also drive a smart car too right? u just need time to adapt. fyi the gs2 is not big at all and all these phones are very pocketable even the galaxy note stop exaggerating. one and a half inch is not gonna make it not fit in ur pocket

      • Anonymous

tv’s aren’t supposed to fit in your pocket and aren’t designed to be ergonomic.  Your head needs to be fixed pronto!!

        • Anonymous

just saying technology is always gonna upgrade and increase in size just like tv’s ,computer monitors, etc. u just have to learn to adapt to it. all of these phones are very pocketable  unless ur wearing ur gf’s pants

        • Anonymous

          Your screen name fits you.

        • Anonymous

i bet ur one of those guys that wears skin tight girl pants. those tight pants are cutting off the circulation to ur head

        • Azazellov

I completely agree with you, a 4.3″ screen doesn’t cut it for me, that’s why i wanted to get the Galaxy Note, but it’s not out for T-Mobile. Plus since the screen takes up most of the screen, i’d bet it’s not much bigger than a regular phone with a 4.3″ screen. I think 4.8″ is actually perfect.

        • Anonymous

same here really wanted the note but i dont want to be stuck on 2g all the time and nobody can activate that 1700 band so i settled for the next biggest the gs2

        • Guest911

Note??? Hahahaha. Loser phone that comes with a stylus! Hellooooo 2006. Dont you want to move forward with tech? Go fixurhead.

i want it cuz of the big screen u fucking idiot not cuz of some stupid stylus did u not read the part that said biggest phone dumbass

        • Guest911

Sure bobby. Pen is great. Samsung is also coming out with a 14inch CRT. Bet you gonna buy that too coz you are a real man! Hahahaha

        • dee

buy the note and get  red pocket sim

        • Anonymous

i got it, i just found it easy to pick on your example and use your screen name to make a funny….

      • J35T3R

No, I have to agree with him. I prefer to have a little bit smaller phone, vs a phone that could be a tablet. Phones are not supposed to be half the size of a tablet. It is nice to have screen room but any larger than 4.0-4.3 in screen and its too much

      • Bobjohnson

Srsly dont be a bitch. These phones are gorgeous and perfect sized. If you are a tiny man or woman, then buy a tiny bitch phone. Don’t complain about a man phone. Bitch…

        • Anonymous

dude im for bigass phones in case u didnt read my other posts

        • Bobjohnson

          Was meant for nox2002, sorry.

          Carry on then

      • Guest

I don’t like those big ass phones but i like large screens. I wish the screen was the size of the phone. 4″ screen is just the size of credit card yet the phone is much larger

      • DrScope

If the normal modern phones are too big for you then you can go and buy a Fisher Price toy we call iPhone.

    • Anonymous

Galaxy S Blaze has a decent 5MP sensor, SAMOLED screen, a dual core processor, and 42Mbps HSPA+..

    • Realcool2000

Get the Blaze or the One S…they both have great features.

  • Mnaz105

What’s the point??? Rumor has it that the Galaxy S4 is coming out in 2013 and the S5 in 2014. I’ll stick with my S2 for awhile, this it’s getting ridiculous. Maybe in a couple of years they’ll come out with a real battery that can actually last more than a few hours with these superphones!

  • Charger0707

i love huge power house phones, i just wish the battery can actually last several hours of normal usage…But then again, you pay for the top notch phones and in 5Months theres something else out there that surpassed your phone…

FYI in theory they could make the SGS2 into a 5 inch screen and keep the same size. Remove the 4 buttons and the bezel on the sides and voila, a 5 inch phone. So a 4.8 should feel that different from the current SGS2

    • WirelessRefugee

Agree, but when I disassembled my various phones such as the Vibrant, the buttons that are under the glass display are part of a physical circuit board connected to the motherboard with a ribbon cable. Same goes for the microphone and the speaker/ear piece.

So I don’t know that there is space enough to enlarge the display to the edge of the top/side rails and case edges.

Also, there’s quite a bit of hardware under what looks like simply a glass display. Some phones, for example not only have the controls, but there’s the LED light, vibration motor, and antenna.

The phone needs that space for everything that’s going on under the glass.

      • Anonymous

The galaxy nexus replaces what would have been capacitive buttons with on screen buttons just fine..

        • WirelessRefugee

I was under the impression that on the GN did not “replace” the buttons, this because the glass is fused to both the display and the display frame, which will allow for a larger display because the “control” circuit is UNDER the display.

(Which comprises a different technology and engineering, e.g., the lower part of the Nexus is thicker to accommodate putting the control circuit board under the functioning display).

      • 1lapper

        Again this theoretically speaking

  • ihatemyhtcg2

If you were going to get a new device on Tmobile today, what would you get? Size does matter, I like the large screen. hah.

do have to commend Samsung on trying to make this a smoother release.
Hopefully we will land this in the states sooner this time around!

with all the speculation with the sgs3, I really hope samsung delivers a super smartphone that is as good if not better then rumored.  My upgrade is in the late spring and my next phone needs to be one that Ill be using in 2014 saying I didn’t miss out on something.  The htc one s is sweet, but you know that next year there is going to be the next version just cuz of the late entry htc has in the flagship line of phones market.  And with both sgs3 and iphone 5 coming out they have to upgrade it to compete.

  • Kahlayoh

Couldve atleast bump up the the camera from a 8 to atleast a 10mp. But then again, the phone itself just looks sexy!!!

  • Nickts1989

Cannot wait to see an authentic spec list. Regardless I’m most likely getting the Galaxy SIII. Just one question, what happened to the 12 mp camera? I dont mind 8 mp but I thought 12 mp was cool and would give it a nice boost.

  • wieder85

Megapixels really don’t mean anything, anything above 6mp is pretty ridiculous…  The sensor size and speed are what actually matters… 8mp is plenty

  • http://yellowrex.com YellowRex

That would be an insane 460 PPI on the screen.  Completely unnecessary.  1280×800 gives about 315 PPI, which is what the iPhone 4 has, and is also at the limit of the human eye’s angular resolution.

    • WirelessRefugee

I remember Steve Jobs (RIP) saying one time that all this talk about resolution and pixels was nonsense for precisely what you say, at a point the human eye can’t tell the difference.

That’s the same as camera resolution (megapixels). Unless one is printing out 8 X 10 pics for the grandparents (not many do that) or running a professional studio, cameras shooting above about 5MP are unnecessary.

Even more stunning, for the best pics to show on the Net, where one is not enlarging or zooming in, cameras shooting under 1MP are fine.

Color saturation (richness of colors) can make a difference, the better cameras giving a richer color on Net pics, but all this 5MP, 8MP and soon 10MP, 12MP cell phone cameras are a marketing gimmick, IMO.

And on my Samsung Galaxy S II I just got, the display resolution, camcorder and camera are outstanding to me. In fact mine has a SAMOLED Plus display, which I guess is better than my old T-Mobile Vibrant’s SAMOLED display, but my “Walmart eyes” can’t tell the difference.

Dang I really hope these specs are Somewhat real! I have an upgrade in November so I guess well see. I bought an amaze off.contract and I’m starting to regret it.

  • http://twitter.com/IRONMARC22 Marcus Armstrong

realistically, im expecting a quadcore version of the nexus. 4.7in Super Amoled HD 720p res, 300+ PPI, 1GB ram, 2100MaH battery, A similar image processor like on the HTC One X, processor with improved graphics output.

  • Mavricxx

I just hope T-Mobile’s version finally has HDMI.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/NWOCIYMX64U6TYAUMI5NSK2O5A chris meyers

This is by far perhaps the stupidest article that BGR has ever written. Clearly just to get publicity. So let’s take PPI. 1920X1080 would be 458 PPI. There ISN’T AN AMOLED TECHNOLOGY THAT EXISTS that can produce 450 PPI. The new technology Samsung will be deploying is LITI, even LITI struggles with anything much above 350. A true 1080P resolution IS IMPOSSIBLE in a 4.8″ Amoled display as far as real resolution, and I’m sure BGR knows that. Now if they went Pentile, it might be possible. I don’t know the true ppi that 1080P would entail on a 4.8 Pentile, but it might be possible. So yeah, either it’s a Pentile 1080P (and even that I think is impossible), or it’s a 720P real Amoled (non Pentile) which is barely possibly with LITI at 300 PPI.
