T-Mobile WILL Receive The LG G2X, Also Known As The Optimus 2X

Of all the emails I receive lately, one of the most common is, “Will T-Mobile carry the LG Optimus 2X?” As many times I’ve answered yes I often receive responses that are a combination of skepticism and doubt. Well doubt no more as the above image is concrete evidence from a very trusted source which shows that T-Mobile will in fact carry the LG Optimus 2X as the “G2X.” While we’re running short on details other than the above image, plenty of videos, specs and information can be found elsewhere on the site and interwebz to give you the lowdown on the Optimus 2X.

Check out Aaron’s hands on video below for a closer look at what to expect when this drops on T-Mobile. We’re digging into this with super speed hoping to find both pricing and a release date soon!

P.S. No word on what, if any kinds of 4G speeds this phone will have. I wouldn’t expect it to be 3G only though!

Yes! I’ve been waiting for this device for quite some while. I need to start saving up hehe. One downer, I knew that T-Mobile was going to rename it, bummer. I don’t like that name, nevertheless, way to go T-Mobile!!!!

    • Anonymous

reminds me of a shakespeare quote “A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet” in other words get over it. It does appear odd as the name suggests its a sequel to the g2 by HTC

This review was for the Euro Spec one not the one coming to TMO. It looks exactly the same but is Stock Vanilla Android 2.2 with a 2.3 update coming soon after release. That’s all the info I can say at this time.

      • whosaidwhat

Are you sure it will have stock 2.2? That will be great. I haven’t heard anything about the 2x having stock android.

Finally, confirmation on the Optimus 2x! That’s great news! Does the new “G2X” name, plus “with Google”, mean that this is going to be a pure Vanilla stock Android experience, with no LG overlay? That would be amazing, and better be the case or else T-Mobile is messing up the DNA of the “G” series. I also wonder how HTC feels about LG, with the G-Slate and now the G2X being a member of the “G” series…

    • Anonymous

G series isn’t trademarked by HTC it should be under T-mobile trademark if I am not mistaken its the same way we have a sidekick made by Samsung and Motorola instead of I think sharp? and how we have Nexus phone made by HTC and Samsung…

if i want a 4 inch display i will just buy a new galaxy s 4G for the better screen. instead, i will just purchase my namesake. come to papa, junior.

    • whosaidwhat

Like you, I would rather have a 4.3 inch display but since the 2x will probably come out before any 4.3 inch displays, I’ll just go for the 2x and sell it on flea-bay if a better phone comes out. What I really want is the pyramid or the S2.

My G1 is starting to die a slow and painful death.

      • HTC Pyramid

i’ve never owned a samsung phone and i am still using my nexus one…but yeah, i rate the pyramid just slightly ahead of the S2 based upon the rumored specs (accounting for both included and lacking features). also, no one is quite certain yet if t-mobile is even going to get the S2 (although i suspect they will) so it makes my decision even easier.

        • Anonymous

Samsung is to T-Mobile what Motorola is to Verizon its no question that T-Mobile is gonna get it. To even question it is ridiculous the only question is when. Don’t rate phones for rumours you wait until its out then use it then rate it.

The name “G2x” means only one thing (hopefully)… STOCK ANDROID! Let’s hope it’s running Gingerbread too!

    • Anonymous

I don’t know about that. It seems to me to be a tie-in with the Optimus Pad’s T-Mobile name, G-Slate. Now, the G-Slate is vanilla Honeycomb, but so far there’s no non-vanilla honeycomb. so that may not mean anything. I guess time will tell.

Looks like I have a decision to make come upgrade time. This or the pyramid. Is this LG’s first high end android phone? I may be leaning toward the track record of HTC.

    • Farhan

I’m waiting on the Pyramid too.

    • Anonymous

Between the two, I’d wait on the Pyramid. The LG 2X has already recieved reviews of Meh. If the rumors of vanilla Android have any validity, that may fix a lot of the European version’s issues, but the Pyramid is still a complete unknown. I wouldn’t make a decision until both devices launch.

      • http://pharaohtechblog.blogspot.com/ Conan Kudo (ニール・ゴンパ)

The “meh” reviews are largely because of the software. Don’t forget that Android 2.x has not yet been fully optimized for multi-core processing. When more of Android 3.0 is backported into Android 2.x, then we’ll see huge performance gains.

  • davehasninjas

If its skinned with LG’s ui though, doesn’t that kind of take away from the whole “G” series though, since up to now they’ve been the “pure” android experiance, or at least the purest you can get from a major telecom.

    • Otakingnw

Except The G2 is the Same phone as the Desire Z without Sense. I don’t find it unlikely that the G2X would be Vanilla and the Optimus 2X has LGs UI.

      • davehasninjas

Yea, that would be pretty awesome. Don’t get me wrong, its a great phone to add to the arsenal, and I’m glad to see magenta adding such great devices, I do like me some aosp though, either way, when I finally do decide to use my upgrade, its gonna be a tough call

Hmm…. Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Sidekick 4G, or T-Mobile Optimus G2X. Decisions, Decisions… please don’t hound me on my choices, I did my research that’ll work out for my preference :) . Biggest question though, how is the battery on the T-Mobile Optimus G2X. Battery life is a HUGE deal to me (& I’m a light to moderate user, so…. yeah).

    • Anonymous

Nexus S has been awesome to me ;) get it.

      • http://cosmicbreeze.tumblr.com/ DtheArtist

Thanks. Is the Battery life good? Will I get a full day of moderate usage? I’m not a heavy user.

  • Nardva

I’m thinking this phone has to be right around the corner. It would be smart to advertise the G2X along with the G Slate Tablet sine they’re both LG products. You firgure the G Slate release has to be right around the corner to combat the release of the Ipad 2.

hi lol well i have verizon and its getting really really expensive and i might cancel my contract i have a droid x. And well i wanna switch to at&t or t-mobile. Please help me choose? Lol i live in los angeles california so if anyone knows how is t-mobile coverage in La i wud really appreciate it. Or do u recommend at&t? Which one has better reception? And faster internet? Dnt get me wrong i luv verizon signal but its expensive and its 3g is not that fast. And i been wanting to either try t-mobile or at&t but im not sure if i shud switch cuz i heard t-mobile doesnt get good reception insidide buildingd does anyone kno if this i true?? Thanks

    • pooks

      T-mobile…… Att sucks in LA

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Simon-Yu/100000989859895 Simon Yu

T mobile tends to not get 3G inside brick buildings because the frequency band being at 2100Mhz is weaker than Verizon’s that’s why, happens to me at school in Lab buildings.. bleh.. but otherwise the service in the LA area is great and it’s fast.. I get 3.3mbps on my Cliq and that’s only 3G

    • Anonymous

There was an article last year about what wireless provider had the best coverage in southern california.
(cant find the article to link) These were the results…
      best.
      1.verizon
      2.tmobile
      3.sprint
      4.at&t

I used to have verizon. Liked it alot. BUT too damn expensive. Switch to tmobile and havent regretted it at all. Verizon does have better building penetrating, but i would also drop calls/service in certain patches around the city (not many) with verizon.
With tmobile i have never dropped a call. The worst that happens is that I get edge speeds in certain areas. Thats about it. When i get 3g/4g speeds its real fast.

    • Anonymous

False, Nexus S inside my bricked building with full 3G bars :) speeds average 4or5mbps

  • http://twitter.com/mrjlwilliams J. Williams

Great combo. G-Slate and the G2X…nice work. I am getting the G-Slate as planned, but should I put down my Galaxy S?

For me this phone isn’t a quantum leap over my Vibrant so it’s not even on my option list.

      SAMOLED beats whatever this has.
Download speeds will be faster but thats with the right conditions.
Similar UI (Unless TMO actually made this thing stock)
      Same 4″ screen size
Hummingbird is no slouch if your phone is set up right.

I personally say hold on to that Galaxy S(4G)?? Not knocking the G2x though.
