I know right? I mean why don’t they do a little something to keep us on t-mobile??

      • Reverend Ink

Call T-Mobile. I called when they ran the promo for the free G2 a few weeks ago and got my wife upgraded from a Bold 9700 to the G2 with literally no cost. Yes, I talked to the Loyalty Department (or disconnect dept or customer retention or whatever you want to call it) and the rep waived the shipping (upgraded) and upgrade fee. Plus, he swapped he line from the $20 Unlimited BB plan to the $20 Unlimited Android data without the need to ask.

No, I didn’t call specifically for them to do this. I was going to cancel her line and activate a new one to get the deal.

calling retentions means i get forced to add a data plan, which upgrading online doesn’t..though you’d think they’d have some way to remove the fees when you do upgrades online. i’m just tired of this cliq xt..2.1 q4, right? pffft.

Gah….if only it didn’t require the ripoff data plan….. Even FREE won’t get me to let go of my T-Zones….Now….$49.99 with no data plan required = win!

    • http://twitter.com/FR35HM1NDZ Jamille Browne

All androids on any contract carrier will require a data plan. Prepaid plans are the only way to get androids without data plans. Pretty much the LG Optimus T and T-Mobile Comet don’t require data plans and are prepaid androids for Less than $200.

      • Shawn

Wrong. Verizon does not require a data plan to upgrade to an Android phone.

Correct, this doesn’t cover upgrades – just new phones :-( Upgrade pricing still $199 after MIR

  • Anonymous

Damn! Should I go after this or wait for another android device with a keyboard? My contract has been up since September – so I’m seriously waiting lol.

    • Nenito Ismael

get this one I dont think there’ll be a better, android with a keyboard from t mobile for a long time.

    • Anonymous

I agree. There will be a lot more next generation phones with no keyboard coming out than ones with a keyboard. The only question is if you want to wait for something “better” or do you want something really good right now. I’m certain that the G2 is well worth buying right now.

  • Izzo

Great price not better than the free I got on my Cyber Monday upgrade deal, but the phone is def. worth $50

  • Bbrowne

Engadget Mobile is anti T-Mobile. I mean have you seen their review of the myTouch 4G? The just kept bashing it when almost every other review I’ve read was positive, including BGR’s review. What about the other article that suggested tht T-Mobile takes the Samsung Vibrant off its shelves because of the GPS problem when AT&T’s Captivate has the same probmel? How come they accepted Sprint’s WiMax as 4G and not T-Mobile’s HSPA+ when T-Mobile’s network is way faster than Sprint’s? I guess if it’s not an Apple product or one that’s going to Verizon, it doesn’t count here.

  • DFWSuperman

First time, long time! CarToys does have the G2 for $49 – its good on renewals, free activation and can do in-store. Why T-Mobile doesn’t offer any upgrades is beyond me – I called and they didn’t even know about the $0, but again its only on NEW lines – upgrades still $199.

I want to get G2, but in no hurry – WHO IS GONNA HAVE $0 UPGRADE BEFORE CHRISTMAS? Also, I’m a fan of the G2 because of the keyboard – should I stick with my first choice or evaluate the Nexus S?

  • TmoLongtime

Yep I confirmed via phone with Tmo that my contract is up.
I logged-in to my t-mobile account and shopped for Android phones.
The G2 is $199 with 2yr contract for longtime Tmobile customers.
I have been with Tmobile for over 10 years. And I have signed up many friends and family that are still on Tmobile after many years. Tmobile really knows how to treat longtime customers…
    :/
I don’t want to break out the violin and sob stories, or harp and beg for a deal with Loyalty Dept. I just want to log-in and get what new customers signing up for a 2yr contract will get…

it is pretty annoying to see new customers/lines get deals so much better then current upgrade customers.

  • xcollazo

Too bad its back up to $199.99 again, so it seems this deal was only for one day. Sucks I got my hopes up and figured this might be at least for a week. Was going to get this at the end of the week when I get my paycheck.

    • DAK

I just totally got the G2 for free, free ship, no tax, AND grandfathered my G1 data plan at $20/month from Loyalty with a 2 year extension.

Just call up 611, say “cancel” when you are asked where you want to transfer to and then ask the operator if you are actually in the Loyalty dept.

I said that I have heard that others were getting free G2 upgrades and I would like one as well. The rep came back and said he would do it, then said the data plan would “only” cost an additional $5/month. I cut him off and asked if I could be grandfathered in with my existing plan (which is the same damn thing, really…). He put me on hold for a minute and said he would do it.

This is great considering a month ago they were only taking $50 off for $150 upgrade and placating me with how they would “allow” me to keep my $20 data plan and that would make up the $150 upgrade price after a year instead of giving me the $20 plan price AND the phone for free.

And then of course since my wife is insane, she is upset because she was going to spend $150 for the upgrade for my birthday and instead I got it for free. Go figure.

    • gma

Not available anymore, I was told it was on cyber Monday only

      • Gma

The deal is back on today, Dec. 20.

    • Anonymous

      lol

  • Anonymous

Well I hated the G1 and I am really hoping that the g2 is nothing like the g1, the g1 battery would always die no matter what, I would charge it all night and then the battery would die within 20 min of me using it, which really sucks, well I ended selling it to swapngreen.com they bought it

  • Hellavajewel

I am so excited I stumbled upon this website today. I called Tmobile and the 1st rep I spoke with told me I could get the phone for $199 with a MIR, he then put me on hold and told me I could get it for 149 with MIR. I asked to speak with his manager he put me on hold again and told me $149 with instant rebate. I told him no thanks. I hung up and call right back. Rep # 2 looked into my account and within 2 minutes was more than happy to give me the phone for FREE with a 2 year extension, but no problem for me I have been with them for at 10 years. I paid $12.95 to expedite shipping. My daughter will be very surprised on Xmas.
