T-Mobile Officially Announces The T-Mobile myTouch, Launches More HSPA+ Cities

Well the myTouch HD news keeps on ticking tonight but this time we’re going with something official, very official. As of this moment T-Mobile officially introduces the “new myTouch” to the T-Mobile lineup. Let’s cut to the chase and say we’re still missing lots of details so let’s just get that out of the way. The actual name of the T-Mobile’s first Android device with a Front Facing Camera remains a mystery, as does price and launch date. We believe “myTouch HD” might be the name, and myTouch 2 just popped up as an option but we believe both are likely incorrect. We have good reason to believe that the launch date is on November 3rd or right around that date and we know its going to come in four colors, White, Red, Black and “Plum.” Forgive us, we called it eggplant early on. So let it be said that those of you who doubted the authenticity of our original leaked Grab and Go document are hereby ordered to offer me one dollar in the comments. Just kidding!

So here is what we have learned from T-Mobile tonight:

  • The “new myTouch” is HSPA+
  • HD video calling is indeed on board working with both Qik and Yahoo Messenger for video calling that’s allowed on 3G, HSPA+ and Wi-Fi, can someone ask Google when we can expect a gtalk video solution for Android?
  • The HD camcorder comes with Screen Share, which allows customers to share or broadcast HD video and pictures they’ve captured. With a few touches of the screen, customers can share their photo albums, videos and movies wirelessly with a compatible HDTV or other DLNA device.
  • 3.8-ich WVGA with virtual keyboard and Swype on board
  • Blazing fast second-generation Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 1GHz MSM8255 processor optimized for speed and graphic performance
  • 5-megapixel camera
  • Android 2.2
  • Features preloaded HD games including Rock Band, Asphalt 5 and Monopoly which sticks in line with T-Mobile launching premiere devices with extras on board
  • Preinstalled 8 GB memory

You can learn more about the myTouch here on T-Mobile’s official myTouch page or check out the myTouch holding page on T-Mobile.com but hey, there is more as T-Mobile also announces continued expansion of their HSPA+ network to more cities! Wooohooo!!

With its latest expansion, T-Mobile’s HSPA+ footprint now includes Biloxi and Gulfport, Miss.; Denver, Colo.; Huntsville, Ala.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Norfolk, Va.; Omaha, Neb.; Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz.; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland and Sacramento, Calif.; and West Palm Beach, Fla. T-Mobile expects to reach 100 major metropolitan areas and 200 million people in 2010.

New T-Mobile myTouch Delivers High-Definition Video Connections and Lightning Fast 4G Speeds

New myTouch to Take Advantage of T-Mobile’s New Super-Fast HSPA+ Network Now Reaching More Than 65 Markets

BELLEVUE, Wash. October 4, 2010 T-Mobile USA, Inc. today announced a new addition to its exclusive line of Android™-powered T-Mobile® myTouch®smartphones and the continued expansion of its new super-fast HSPA+ mobile broadband network. Built with families in mind, the newest T-Mobile myTouch helps solve the challenges of staying physically and emotionally connected by sharing photos and video with the HD Camcorder, spontaneous face-to-face conversations through Video Chat and the ability to reach 4G speeds on T-Mobile’s new network, which is now available in more cities across the country.1

Unlike other video-calling solutions on the market that only work through Wi-Fi, Video Chat on the new myTouch enables customers to connect with loved ones spontaneously from practically anywhere through T-Mobile’s network or Wi-Fi. With the myTouch’s front-facing camera paired with Video Chat through Yahoo! Messenger or QIK, customers can hold video conversations with friends and family who have a new T-Mobile myTouch, other compatible mobile device or PC. Customers can even see who is available to chat through presence information integrated into the myTouch’s address book, and have the option to leave Video Mail using Qik when someone is unavailable.

“Taking advantage of the 4G speeds on T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network, the new myTouch delivers a faster and more compelling experience than most competing smartphones on the market,” said Andrew Sherrard, vice president, product management, T-Mobile USA. “Our continued focus to build innovative new features and personalized services truly makes myTouch unique.”

Designed specifically to deliver 4G speeds on T-Mobile’s rapidly expanding HSPA+ network, the new myTouch will offer customers blazing fast access to websites, applications, videos, downloads and more. T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network is the most pervasive mobile broadband network in the country, offering 4G speeds in more than 65 major metropolitan areas.

With its latest expansion, T-Mobile’s HSPA+ footprint now includes Biloxi and Gulfport, Miss.; Denver, Colo.; Huntsville, Ala.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Norfolk, Va.; Omaha, Neb.; Phoenix and Tucson, Ariz.; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland and Sacramento, Calif.; and West Palm Beach, Fla. T-Mobile expects to reach 100 major metropolitan areas and 200 million people in 2010.

Families also can share moments in high-definition (HD) with the myTouch’s high-quality HD Camcorder with Screen Share, which allows customers to share or broadcast HD video and pictures they’ve captured. With a few touches of the screen, customers can share their photo albums, videos and movies wirelessly with a compatible HDTV or other DLNA device. The new phone also includes three exclusive myTouch features: Genius Button™, powered by Dragon Dictation from Nuance, which lets customers call, text, e-mail or access the internet with a simple voice command; Faves Gallery™, which offers shortcuts to one’s most-contacted family and friends; and myModes, which creates customized home screens for work and home.

Designed by HTC exclusively for T-Mobile, the new myTouch features a brilliant 3.8-inch WVGA touch-screen display with virtual keyboard and Swype® for easy text input. The thin and sleek device also comes with a blazing fast second-generation Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 1GHz MSM8255 processor optimized for speed and graphic performance, a 5-megapixel camera, a preinstalled 8 GB microSD memory card, and an integrated media player that brings together favorite music, video and internet radio under one set of controls.

Powered by Android 2.2, the myTouch offers a rich mobile Web experience and access to more than 80,000 applications on Android Market™ from games to location-based social networks to on-the-go shopping and more. The new device also features preloaded HD games, including “Rock Band,” “Asphalt 5” and “Monopoly.”

The new T-Mobile myTouch is expected to be available in time for the holidays, exclusively from

T-Mobile USA in four colors — white, black, plum or red. Customers can visit http://mytouch.t-mobile.com for more information.

T-Mobile now offers 4G speeds on the new myTouch and the T-Mobile G2™, as well as the webConnect Rocket™ 2.0 and Rocket laptop sticks. In addition, customers located in new HSPA+ locations can benefit from faster speeds on their existing 3G smartphones — including popular devices, such as the myTouch 3G Slide.2

    • aLb3Rt

looks like wifi calling is included (UMA?)from what I see on the tmobile mytouch hd site.

  • Tmobile

Sounds great! I hope this phone dosen’t come with that expresso crap! and I dont like the design

    • tooltard

it defintely won’t be stock android if that is what u mean, its got a genius button and yes almost definitely espresso

  • Aceman

Yo….Just in time for my upgrade in December…..

Sick of my G1, but this superb Biffmod ROM is keeping it on life support.

And…..that second generation 1ghz Snapdrago PWNs the G2 a little.

    • jimmy

      G2 doesn’t use a snapdragon. It’s a Scorpion GSSH!

  • Bimmerz

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but I have to ask (as I am not very tech savvy), but when you say:

“The “new myTouch” is HSPA+ capable” <— Does this mean it's a HSPA+ phone like the G2? Or does it mean that it's capable of HSPA+ speeds, but is not an actual HSPA+ device? Or is there even a difference?

    Thx! :)

    • David, Managing Editor

You are not allowed to ask questions!! Just you!!! Yes, I’ll change the wording, but you’re in trouble!

      • Bimmerz

lol David! Thx for the update, I had only asked because I know that the Vibrant is said to be capable and take advantage of HSPA+ speeds, but is not an actual HSPA+ device.

        • David, Managing Editor

No you are right, I changed it…thanks for pointing it out, guess my “old age” is getting to me!

      • mike

Hey i have a question too…i hear the mytouch hd was goin to have internal memory…was that a lie cause i dont see anythin about it havin anythin on the specs…

  • area5x1

Reasons to get this over the G2:
    1) It has a FFC
    2) uh…………………it’s screen is .1″ bigger?

    • Eddie Android

      .1 bigger lol.

      • la_resistance28

        That’s what SHE said!

    • Vibrant Addict

      3) uh….it’s a more slim design and lighter due to no keyboard

      4) Multiple colors (for those that care)

      5) Higher clock processor out of the box (Hands on testing will determine if it matters)

      6) Genius button? (I’m not sure if that really matters personally)

      7) International device

I think that pretty much sums it up.

      • zazou

        And all plastic..

    • Flyingrequin

It has a faster processor 1Ghz vs. 800 Mhz (for G2). They are both second gen Qualcomm chips with the same GPU (~41M triangle/s)

Therefore it should be just a bit faster, but the UI is Espresso vs. vanilla android on the G2.

THis might be the phone i am getting.

Next year, we’ll start seeing 3rd generation chips (dualcore 1.2GHz and 1.5 Ghz with about double the speed on the GPU compared to the current version of chips)

  • abel2fresh4u

FINALLYYYYYYYYYYY HOPE IT COMES OUT B4 THANKSGIVING

  • Marcus

    I want a bigger screen!

    • Bimmerz

Me too! But may have to get this until (hopefully the “rumored”) Glacier comes out. :)

  • rpinazo

The G2 is without a doubt a great phone but this is more for me right here. Can’t wait for this to drop. If the G2 runs that fast on a 2nd gen 800mhz processor than imagine what this badboy can do. I might get both :)

  • Mark

    I am definitely buying this!

  • Tito!

I’m dying right now! Remember, all the secrecy and lame attempts of pickup lines on twitter TMo would give us?
    Well, that all ends now.
And, seems to me TMo is just barely opening a huge can of (popup snake) surprises!

G2 releases within a few days, I found out they announce mytouch even before then. WP7 is gonna be a majorr success! I hear multiple devices, what is that?! :)
    Looove it!
& now, my City. Salt Lake City, has officially gone LIVE!
    Am I wrong? :)
Idk. But this HSPA+ bargain, may be a lil more then we expected.
(Especially, when it punches you in the face.)
Bring it on! I’m ready for an HSPA+ device.
I shall somehow, buy all these upcoming HSPA devices.
    Starting with G2, and WP7!
    It’d be heaven! :)

    T-Mobile. . . Heavenly Orgasmic!

  • M.Az

I’ve got a vibrant but I think i’ll check this one out to , my touch devices have been pretty excellent/ reliable in the past, only thing is since it is not stock android it will have issues receiving updates…may have to get another android phone to enjoy gingerbread when it comes out.

  • jimmy

T-Mobile is on its Rape Year. All they need is to offer data starting at 15 and BOOM!!

  • YJ

I like the fact that it has the FFC and the second generation processor….

I’m really disappointed that it isn’t the desire HD.
Come on T-Mobile we need an EVO or Incredible kind of device now!

I might just get the HD2 again and put android on it… though it won’t have the HSPA+

    • Bobbb

It should be pretty similar to the Desire HD (sans size and some software stuff), they both have the MSM8255, 2nd Gen Snapdragon.

    • pantlesspenguin

Umm…the Vibrant is pretty equal to both the Evo & Incredible. Pretty much the only phone out there that beats the Galaxy S series is the Droid X.

  • Bobbb

This is what I want, even if it’s espresso.

  • Randall

Can someone clarify how the processors differ between the G2 and the MyTouch HD? Everyone’s been talking about how the G2 has a new architecture and better graphics chip, so even at 800 MHz it’s equal to the various 1 GHz phones currently out there. Does the MyTouch HD’s chip have all these improvements plus an extra 200 MHz, or is it similar to the current-generation 1 GHz chips (e.g., fairly similar to the G2′s 800 MHz chip)?

    • k-mack

Ok, I’ve been researching on this and it looks like the only differences between the G2 chip and the myTouch HD chip are that the myTouch HD chip can play mpeg 2 video (in addition to the rest of the formats that the G2 can also play) and is 200 MHz faster. They are BOTH 2nd gen chips. They both have the faster 205 Adreno GPU. This myTouch HD looks awesome! My G2 is still fine for me, though. :-)

  • Geniuz

Why can’t T-Mobile get a HTC phone with a 4″+ screen??? This would be my next phone if it had one. I just can’t get with the virtual keyboard on anything smaller than 4″

  • LuvMyGreenRobot

Gorgeous! I’m just wondering if a 3.8″ screen is good enough for a virtual keyboard. I have the myTouch Slide, and I would practice on it, but I find the hardware keyboard much better. Do you think .4″ would make a difference when it comes to typing? I wanna see a pic of this in plum!

Follow me on twitter: tokiwnotabumblb. :)

    • Vibrant Addict

It’s going to come with a Swype keyboard, which I use on my Vibrant that is 4″, that thing is amazing. I will never again go back to a regular keyboard, I only use my Swype, (even though I have like 3 others on my phone just in case).

If you can deal with having no physical keyboard, give it a try. Experiment by ONLY using the virtual one on your slide for a couple days and you’ll know if you’re comfortable with it. The size difference is not an issue for typing (I came from an iPhone, .5″ smaller than the Vibrant).

      • LuvMyGreenRobot

Yeah I have a swype also, but for some reason I love to type out every single letter. The Slide screen may be too small for me and the Vibrant was good enough. This HD one would be almost as big as the Vibrant, but I want to see how much of a difference it would be. The prob is that I love to type very fast and without looking at the keyboard sometimes.

  • Big Will

Silly question? Why isn’t capable of 21 Mbs? Did I miss something?

    • MattB

Data sticks will be 21, phones will be 14

    • Kickstar13

The processor HTC uses in both the G2 and myTouch HD restricts the handset to 14.4Mbps HSPA+ Download speeds and 5.76Mbps Upload speeds.

  • mjN1

Wow… I’m very disappointed. Not to hate on the people who is excited but come on T-mobile. Look at this phone, it looks like a my Touch slide. I mean internal stuff sounds ok but the looks of this I call it FAIL! FFC, newer qualcomm processor and HD video. I guess I had my hopes to high. No Desire HD like stuff comming our way. Oh well, thats why we are where we are…NEXT..

    • David Thomas

Yeah, the Desire HD (or even HD2 with slightly updated hardware) is what we need. I’m sort of pissed, but I do need to get rid of this Cliq badly, so I may have to settle for the MyTouch HD unless some nice hardware is released by December.

    • Steve Jobless

The fact that you still insist on using the word “fail” and feel you must capitalize makes you a FAILURE. If the Desire HD were to release for T-mobile, I doubt you would get it. You sound like a picky drama queen. Just get an Evo and move along with Sprint. Next!

      • Scott

Wow Steve, you need to get a life. You’re taking this way too seriously.

  • SnakeEyez

The phone looks good but that silver outline in the front kinda ruins it for me. LOL @ that picture of the video chat, yea, like video chat is gonna look that good with its .3mp FFC.

  • foxhound2185

So what happened to the “dual core” that it was suppose to have?

  • B

The previous leaked pictures make the phone look really cheap. The shell looks like that cheap plastic that would otherwise spoil the rest of the package. Disappointing, along with not being stock android.

  • Eddie Android

This looking better than the G2 but im still going wait and see how the G2 turns out (loose hinge, half the mem, and hopefully a black color) and the mytouch HD performance.

  • AndroidGuy

Any leaked spec on the internal memory?

  • jimmy neutron

    Woohoo!T-Mobile’s On A Roll.

  • Robert

Anyone notice the lack of specs on the T-Mo site? No internal memory, battery size.

  • UPSSucks

now you idiots that were tearing up the G2 for not having a FFC can show your ugly mugs to other ugly nerds for pointless video calling.

really happy about the way tmo is moving though. good move for them. its gonna be a great year!

anyone that takes the G2 back for this is dumb. especially once we root the G2 and overclock it, it will still be much much faster.

    • coolMANDINGO

im actually going to video chatting with your wife!! and shes actually purchasing the device for the both of us. you wife is great gal. tell her to make sure she has make-up on while we chat!

      • crazythunder

took the words outta my mouth

    • B

Your girlfriend dump you or something? What’s your problem?

    • crazythunder

so, if anyone doesn’t get a phone that is not on par with your standards is dumb? you’re saying that everyone should get what you get,and not make decisions based on their own personal preferences? wow dude, it’s only a cell phone. relax.

  • Chris

I like how it has an older processor and no one is complaining……oh it’s 1Ghz so it’s automatically the best out right now.

    Awesome.

    • SnakeEyez

No it’s not, this will have the MSM8255 snapdragon which is 2nd gen. This is basically the G2′s chip just clocked at 1ghz (it even has the adreno 205 gpu on this as well). This is the same chip that is in the HTC Desire HD, not old at all.

    • raul

It has the new second generation snapdragon…. thats why no1 is complaining about an older processor.

    • J-Hop2o6

      @ Chris

      N1, Evo, HD2, etc. = 2009 1st Gen Snapdragon (QSD8X50 @ 1GHz)
      G2/Desire Z, Lexicon/Merge = 2010 2nd Gen Snapdragon (MSM7X30 @ 800 MHz)
      myTouch 2, Desire HD = 2010 2nd Gen Snapdragon (QSD8X55 @ 1 GHz)

      2011 = 3rd Gen Snapdragon [Dual-Core] (QSD8X60 @ 1.2 GHz & QSD8672 @ 1.5 GHz)

  • Dan

Although the specs are decent, this phone is ugly as hell. It looks like a toy phone for high school kids. And the “My Touch” logo doesn’t exactly scream elegance. Come on T-Mobile… sigh.

    • Josh

I agree 100%. I have been waiting for something to replace my original MyTouch and this just looks horrible. the specs are great, but the overall look is so cheap. bummer.

  • ThreeFourSeven

I was going to get the G2 but I’m going to put a hold on that one. This is running the next generation Snapdragon processor. Good Screen, good camera, 2.2 on board, and have a front facing camera.

  • Danny Perez

    what is ffc?

    • SnakeEyez

      Front Facing Camera.

  • NiiDiddy

Wow…two phones announced in one night. Good for Magenta. I was told by an insider that this phone is pretty cool; they weren’t too specific though

  • now_onTMO

    Finally!! HSPA for Bay Area..

    great!

  • tmoOWNED!

Ahh its not a dual core processor! But the g2 will be the first device to get android 3.0 (honeycomb) or the probably the nexus one.

  • aCool Cat

Is This Guy Retarded Hes Sky Diving While Video Chatting Hes Going to Die -____-

    • Jmts80

    • SnakeEyez

      I Lol’d hard. haha

    • now_onTMO

I think you are retarded to actually think they are skydiving.. lol

      • Me

I think your retarded to actually think he wasn’t joking!! …LOLoudest!

  • Jmts80

Hspa+ in Phoenix, I am so happy!

    • Tmoled

I got 1.5 mbps down tonight in tempe.have you tested tips yet? I was expecting it to be faster. Unless we’re not live quite yet.

      • speculation

getting between 2-2.5 mbps down and right around .75 mbps up in Mesa on a mytouch slide. Not sure if hpsa+ is reaching this far into the burbs, but im very happy with the speeds in general.

  • somebody

    no internal memory ??

pre installed 8g sounds like just the sd card

  • MJ

This may get me to replace my Nexus One. Will wait for XDA to root and get CM6 working. G2 looks to clunky for me

    • GrammarNazi

      Too, not to. You’re welcome.

  • now_onTMO

Umm how so do i know if i have hspa? Lol.. sorry needed to ask that.. do i get a message or anything?

  • dave d

as soon as i get this i will mod the case this phone is sick im thinking zombie theme

  • now_onTMO

    the phone looks nice..

style is ok.. it looks kinda teenish a lil bit though..

  • coolMANDINGO

haha for the suckers that bought the g2 instead of waiting. FFC is ALIVE!! ITS ALIVE!!!!! mwahahahahahahahaha

    • tmogee

LOL the g2 is different to this just because this phone get one ffc..lol i know you just wanna video yourself jacking off.. the g2 will be the first phone to android 3.0(honeycomb)..

  • la_resistance28

So, looks like this baby will have Android 2.2 w/ Espresso. Does this mean original MyTouch and MyTouch Slide users can expect a Froyo update after this is released? Crossing my fingers!

    • David Thomas

That’s like saying the Motorola Droid and Motorola Charm have 2.1 w/Blur, so the Cliq should have an upgrade from 1.5 sometime soon.

Don’t hold your breath, manufacturers hate T-Mobile. Not enough money for them.

      • la_resistance28

Yeah, but to be fair, Moto’s dropped the ball alot on updates. I have a bit more faith in HTC, they’ve already updated the Evo and Incredible. They also announced earlier in the summer that Froyo would be coming to all HTC phones by year’s end, and explicitly listed the MyTouch Slide. Less sure about the original MyTouch, though…

  • Dethduck

So. It’s a Desire HD with an ffc, T-Mobified.
    I’m in.

    • David Thomas

Smaller screen, but basically, yeah. Same internals.

  • patrick

im still getting the g2 this week. the phone looks nice, but the design of the G2 is amazing. amazing in the hand, amazing screeen, the keyboard is amazing. i looked at it at the store today and the sweet cases. im pumped

  • Eddie Android

Hey David I dont know if this has been mentioned but if you go to the tmobile sighn up page where you can rotate the Mytouch you can see three little gold contacts like the Nexus One on the left side of the Mytouch. Dock maybe? http://mytouch.t-mobile.com/

    • Surfer

I actually noticed that too and was wondering what that was.

    • la_resistance28

Yeah, good eye! Looks like it could be for a car dock or alarm clock dock or something

  • patrick

when i was at a tmobile store today, one of the reps mentioned that the mytouches would be getting 2.2 soon after the release of the g2. not that i believe it..ha. BUT they did mention that the reason the G2 seems to have less memory than it was suppost to have is because the memory is partioned and is leaving memory for future updates (aka, gingerbread?)
