MyTouch Price Drop FTW!

t-mobile-mytouch-3g-ofc

When the MyTouch3G launched back in early August, one of the earliest complaints was the high price. Offered at $199, many bloggers, including myself, couldn’t understand why T-mobile would risk such a price when the iPhone 3G was coming in a full 100 dollars lower. Well, a compromise must have been made in the hallways of Bellevue (that or sales have slipped), as tomorrow brings a $50 price drop. Good for new lines and upgrades, the price will be $149.99 with no mail-in rebate, and we imagine there is no change to the love it or hate it required data package. If you were planning on picking up that MyTouch tonight, better hold off for 12 hours!

    Tender!

No surprise. With the Hero on the horizon, why have a lower-end model priced higher than your competition?

  • lewdachris

hold out for the $199 cliq. crossing fingers

  • anthony

    or hopefully a free cliq!

  • 30014

The g1 should be 79$ and the mytouch should be 99$. I own the g1 and it’s a good phone, but let’s be honest both phones are past their prime. Who is going to buy a mytouch when we all know there is so much better coming soon?

  • queensnewbie

What’s the next Android phone coming to T-mobile aside from the Cliq? the Hero isn’t, so is there anything confirmed? The Cliq design looks generic and cheap as hell.

  • eli_the_great89

to VDubb: I totally agree, the HTC Hero which is featuring Sense UI and its MULTI-TOUCH above all other things, is going to be at 179.99.

Clearly it would be the DUMBEST thing for T-Mobile to leave the MyTouch at 199.99 as it’s evidently a lower-end phone compared to the Hero.
To be honest I can only hope that if T-Mobile releases the Samsung Galaxy, that the phone being a full TouchScreen phone will be Multi-Touch.
I still think its bad enough they placed that name on the damn phone…”myTouch” wtf that has to be the tackiest name on earth.

  • js-1

top it off from price and name that they made it their flagship phone when they know that there will be better phones on their line up.

    bad move…

  • Puv

I’d actually pick one up in heart beat at that price… IF they allowed me to keep my Total Internet plan!!

    FOOLS!

  • The Observer

you cant be serious. i just bought this phone for $200 exactly 2 weeks ago. any chance of them givin me back $50?

  • kenbot

    @The Observer

If you bought it two weeks ago, you should have been able to use the KICKOFF24 promo code

I bought my MyTouch two weeks ago..it’s a good phone.

  • EJN

i am not sure what phones everyone thinks are coming out for anytime soon other than the cliq? the cliq will be a good phone, but i highly doubt it will be better than the mytouch.

  • JH

whatever!! I’m starting to think tmobile SUCKS!! Why in the world with they have launched this piece of crap phone instead of the CLIQ!! T-mobile would dominate and I would be leaving to go get me a Hero on October 11.

  • http://www.zaldor.com Les Zaldor

I bought the myTouch 2 weeks ago (with the kickoff24 code), the day they announced the Cliq.. Now I’m wondering if I can send the mytouch back and wait for the Cliq!? No word if the Cliq will be free or more than what I paid for the myTouch… I’m thinking it might just be best to stick with myTouch, but I’d love to have a physical keyboard. Argh! ;)

  • 30014

To everyone asking what other phones are coming, well the galaxy lite is rumored to be dropping at the end of this year, also the g1 v2 should be dropping early next year plus the xperia x3 as well as some others. People remember Google promised 16 to 20 android phones by the end of this year. You would think Tmo would be smart enough to pick up a few more of them. Android is the hottest thing right now outside of the iphone. But go ahead and get a mytouch if you are so confident nothing better is coming soon. Just don’t cry in your comments 4 months from now because you can’t get upgrade pricing on the newest and hottest android phones.

  • AMS

Hopefully this will lower the prices of MyTouch 3Gs in the used/wholesale market. I have spent a lot of time on the phone recently with T-mo Reps, all of their new restrictive policies are really starting to make me consider looking else where. I still have 14 months of contract on one of my lines so I’ll try to acquire a Rooted Mytouch 3G out right and use it until I decide if I’m going to stay with T-mobile after my contract is up. I have been with T-mobile since they were Voice Stream; and its sad that they are aligning their policies with lesser Carriers.

  • queensnewbie

The Galaxy Lite looks like generic crap, the Cliq looks like generic crap, the G1 v2 is a possibility, and the Xperia will be out of most people’s price range and probably not really offered by T-mobile. I would take the myTouch over the Galaxy Lite and Cliq anyday, even with their better specs. So really there is only 1 upcoming option…

  • 30014

Queensnewbie if u want the mytouch so bad then by all means go for it. Don’t try to rain on the parade. If the mytouch was as awesome as u seem to think then it would be flying out of the stores. I doubt its selling like Tmo thought it would, hence the price cut.

  • queensnewbie

Did I say I want the mytouch so bad? No. I said it’s a better option than the 2 upcoming Android phones T-mobile has. If T-mobile was offering the HTC Hero, then I would by all means opt for that. But they aren’t. The Cliq is not only not a flagship qorthy phone but is not even impressive, let’s not fool ourselves here. T-mobile would be lucky to seel half as many Cliq’s as they have myTouch’s. So when the figures come out, we will see who looks smarter.

  • 30014

Its kinda stupid to brag about a phone u don’t want and if u want a hero go to sprint. If u want to respond fine, but I’m through woth this topic.

  • The Observer

well i got back the $50 from the tmobile store cause i got it exactly 14 days ago. all i needed was the receipt and the box to bring in. they charged a restockin fee so i got back $43.55

  • queensnewbie

It’s bragging, it’s being realistic. I’m actually pissed that T-mobile isn’t carrying the Hero. The upcoming Android phones on T-mobile just aren’t impressive. The Cliq is a crappy design with a better camera and some free apps. The Galaxy Lite is a crappy design and basically the same specs as the other Android phone. I just think the myTouch is the best Android phone that combines design and OS which T-mobile is offering in the forseeable future, that’s all.

  • EJN

i have had the mytouch since it came out and i do not have a single complaint about it. it just keeps getting better and better. the bottom line is that the mytouch is a great phone, tmobile has great plans/coverage and android is a winner. this is all a no-brainer for me. at $149.99, it is a steal.

  • Dan

I think people get too caught up in the latest and greatest phone. I’ve hated Motorola since the Razor so I’m not excited about the Cliq at all (plus I hate Twitter and Facebook….) and the Galaxy is gonna be a Lite version which doesn’t do anything special for me anyways. I love T-Mo….AT&T’s coverage is crap and Verizon is the devil. Sprint’s never excited me about anything coverage or phone wise. T-Mo has great customer service and solid coverage for a great price. If the Hero was on T-Mobile I’d give it a go, but it’s not and that’s that. The MyTouch isn’t bad at all – granted it’s not souped up but who cares. And the price cut was because people are undercutting them, not because of lack of sales probably

  • Rochester

@JH. Dude. T-Mobile needed a good phone to compete with Sprint Hero. CLIQ is that device. MyTouch is just another device for a different time with a different goal. While it is a great device, it should not cost $200.

  • EJN

Dan, you said it perfectly. You literally took the words out of my mouth. T-Mobile’s customer service is the best, period. That alone is enough for me to stay. ATT’s pricing/coverage is a joke, Verizon IS the devil and Sprint is not impressive. With that said, the Mytouch is by far your best choice and will be for a long time to come. The Cliq’s main focus is social networking which just sounds very immature. I for one do not buy a phone of this type so I can stay in touch with cyber friends. They have not made a single phone that was impressive as of yet. The Mytouch is the answer and worth buying now, not waiting for another phone to come along. It will be a long time before something comes out that is equal to this on T-Mobile.

  • http://tmotoday dannydarko

to 30014 you sound like a bitter x, did you brick your phone trying to root it or are you broke. Eitherway past its prime a little drastic kid There will always be a better phone so go back to your bowl of pissy cereal

  • http://www.mentaldischarge.com Spank

I’m not sure why people seem to think the Hero is a brand-spanking new incredible mega-awesome revolution in phones. It’s not really any different than all the other 528mhz phones HTC has been spitting out for the past two years, save for this one actually has a headphone jack.

Sure, the UI is nifty, but with a little work, you can put it on a G1 or MyTouch.

I actually don’t care for the design of it myself. “Chins” haven’t been necessary on phones for over a decade now.

  • gemini3y3z

Im really starting to think twice about Tmobile. There customer service skills are really slipping under the bus. I have the Mytouch and its great for the time being.. But Tmobile need to get it together……

  • http://partytow.com/e partytow

it is a great info and hope we get it soon

  • 30014

Dannydarko its easy to talk internet smack huh, take your cock out of your ass and get a life. U belong in the same category as the mytouch. U are both old news. U fucking lame.

  • IG

Anybody know if Costco is going to lower the price at their in-store-kiosk for this phone?

  • Adam

Love it or hate it data requirement? Data requirement for a smartphone is an industry standard. In fact, T-Mobile was the last carrier to initiate this requirement, and I really don’t blame them. They were losing a lot of money by not having the requirement, not to mention several customers were buying smartphones and then hating them because they can’t do anything that the phone was designed to do. You really shouldn’t be buying a phone of this type if you aren’t planning on using it’s features, which definitely includes internet, email and GPS…which can ONLY happen with a data package. This, paired with the fact that their data package is the lowest costing of all the major carriers out there, leaves me dumbfounded as to why people are complaining! Just my 2 cents.

  • JakeMG

I got my MyTouch with the Kickoff24 promo code as well as some great service credits from my Retention Rep. I upgraded two lines (and I still had 13 months left on my current contract) and only paid the equivalent of like $40 for each phone with no upgrade fee. If you’re a long time customer, you just need to talk to customer retention and they will definitely take care of you. These are like the higher-level reps. I was just nice to them and expressed how much I hated my current phone and really wanted to jump into the current millennium. They understood and did what they could to hook me up.

And I like the phone a ton. I have an iPod touch and used an iPhone multiple times, and this thing is worlds better (except for the keyboard, but you just need to download betterkeyboard and you’re all set). Once our phones are updated to Android 2.0, this device will just come alive even more.

  • MishkaGreen

@JakeMG How do I reach these Retention Reps? I have the Moto Renew and would love to upgrade to the MT3G ASAP, my upgrade date is for November. Seems like around the corner but its an eternality for me!

  • Alan Williams

Do not buy this phone, I have had nothing but problems with it from the start. To list a few…

    1) Most sluggish, unresponsive platform I’ve ever used. iPhone surpasses it by far.
    2) The touch screen accounts for some of the unresponsiveness, barely noticing when you touch the screen.
    3) Text messages decide at times they do not want to send, for hours at a time.
    4) Apps are very weak, lacking substance.

There are many problems I encounter on a daily basis, and I feel users should know this in the midst of all the MyTouch Hype.

It really is not a next generation phone, and barely meets if at all, the standards set by the iPhone.

For the money, I would not recommend. Switched from Sidekick, worst decision of my life.

  • Cori

I would LOVE the myTouch. The commercial is painful to wacth because I have the W233 Renew which sucks terribly. Its basically a G1 without a physical keyboard, but its a lot prettier. Which would be the better choice. And wouldn’t the prices drop to at least $100 by November?

  • Randy

This PHONE ROCKS!!! THE APPS ARE UNREAL AND THE UPDATES ARE CONTINUIOUS I HAVE FRIENDS WHO HAVE THE I PHONE AND THEY WANT MY PHONE NOW!!! THE MY TOUCH IS THE BEST PHONE ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW. JUST LIKE ANY PHONE NOW DAYS THERE IS A PRICE. AND YES THERE ARE NEW PHONES COMING OUT RIGHT AND LEFT BUT THIS PHONE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT. I HAVE YET TO BUY AN APP AND THE INTERNET IS SUPER FAST. I PAID 299 for my phone and it is worth every cent. THE PRICES YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT IS IF YOU ARE A NEW CUSTOMER. I LOVE THE FACT THAT THIS PHONE IS SMALLER BUT THE SCREEN IS A VERY NICE SIZE. THIS PHONE IS FAR BETTER THAN REVIEWS BY CNET ETC GIVE IT> I WOULD GIVE THIS PHONE 4 1/2 STARS and the only reason I won’t give it a 5 is because of the lack of MP4 videos but it has amazing apps for facebook twitter and myspace. ROCK ON MYTOUCH!!

  • megan

I have been a customer of T-mobile for 6 years. My G1 died so I called to get a new phone. Well guess what I had to pay over $400.00 for the phone.. I was not up for an upgrade.. Guess being a long time customer means NOTHING!!!! Customer Service Whats that????? Nice for all the new customers who get the deal!
